@Bob That's RB
🇺🇸 well now the emoji works here, I installed that EmojiOne (thanks @bob)
@allquixotic It's RB. Posting that on gems will only encourage him.
@DavidPostill RB?
Bob
Bob
@DavidPostill ah, good to know.
Red Bull?
Ah, RB. I get it now.
17:21
Oh, sure! RB!
...dafuq is RB
Trash can.
@ThatREDACTEDGuy A user who has been suspended until Nov 10 '25
He comes back every week or two wearing new socks
What did they do? Killed puppies over livestream?
@ThatREDACTEDGuy He can't control his potty mouth and is generally disruptive.
Can someone clue me in on the Recycle Bin saga? I've been out of the loop.
17:30
@jokerdino RB is trash can and TC is recycle bin?
The only thing I know about this user is that he's been trolling the site almost continuously over the last couple of years.
@DavidPostill Can you give me a sample of posts from this user? Again, I'm out of the loop and would like to better play my part.

You're coming at this with a "I am 100% right and everyone who disagrees is an idiot". That will not change people's minds.

I've tried making a new VM completley but ALL I GET IT INT 18 BOOT FAILIURE INT 18 BOOT FAILIURE INT 18 BOOT FAILIURe YOURE A FAILIURE!!! all it says on google ...

Yes, but more examples?
10k-only links are fine.
I.... don't know why it matters lol
It would help me identify posts from this user.
17:35
@bwDraco No can do. Most of his posts have been deleted when the socks are nuked. Please let the mods deal with him.
Don't try to identify posts from a bad user, identify bad posts and act accordingly
Ah well. "Destroying" an account IIRC hard-deletes the posts from the system.
@bwDraco Exactly
noithing is deleted
nothing
But as @ThatREDACTEDGuy said
(I had a bot account a while back whose deletion hard-deleted the one answer posted on that account)
17:36
|It matters not who the user is, but the content that they post.
I'll just flag as usual. Thanks.
@djsmiley2k True, but when the user is nuked there is no easy way to find the posts.
@djsmiley2k The post is quite literally removed from the database.
Bob
Bob
@DavidPostill yea I need to recalibrate my spidey foxy senses :P
@bwDraco No it isn't.
17:39
Then why is it not visible to 10k users?
@bwDraco Because if you destroy a user the link between user and posts is removed.
I thought it would still be readable by a 10k user with the link?
@bwDraco Yes. But you have to be able to find the link.
Oh, okay. That's not a hard delete.
I'll keep a watchful eye for more troll posts going forward.
17:43
@bwDraco Example. This user has been destroyed but the post is still there superuser.com/questions/1225555/…
@DavidPostill That reads like any other spambot post.
It makes sense now.
@bwDraco It was an example. Not one of RBs posts.
I get it now.
SmokeDetector is already doing an excellent job weeding out spam posts so I almost never see any (and I don't even have to lift a finger to flag them!).
@bwDraco RB's post was caught by Smokey
Heh.

> Buildings at three hospitals in England have failed fire safety tests in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster, the NHS has revealed.

Cladding is being removed by King's College Hospital in London, Sheffield Children's NHS trust and North Middlesex University Hospitals following failed safety tests.
@bwDraco sorry, its one of my own meme type things
nothing on se is ever truely deleted
18:07
@DavidPostill "Cladding"? What, buildings now have armor like late 1800s-era iron battleships?
England is weird
(I'm entitled to say that on July 4)

@OliverSalzburg hehe :)

Safer internet connection... just what I was worried about my headphones doing
No more porn downloads for you headphones!
@bwDraco sorry, my being tasteless
18:15
Sorry about that.
I should have respected your wishes.
@allquixotic Yep, because who'd have thought that plastic might be flammable.
@bwDraco Not your fault, my bad taste...

Double digital silicon microphone?
This is just sounding like a homeopathy advert replete with buzzwords now
I'm about to ask a question... Anyone seen this?
site to site vpn - everything working fine... changed the ip and bounced the connected
@WilliamHilsum Was that the question?
now every machine going to a mapped drive is timing out and causing big issues...
I'm just about to ask a question on the site... maybe serverfault, but, wondering if anyone has seen it?
literally everything is hanging
at first, I thought maybe branchcache issue, but disabled that and rebooted pcs... I can reboot the file server but will be annoying
just the first time I have ever seen this...
and can't see much on Google/anyone else with similar
18:21
@WilliamHilsum When you say "changed the IP", what did you do?
so, newish client, trying to get them all up to standard - server is in the DC and got a site to site vpn... power cut and it dropped out/didn't come back
turned out they didn't have a static ip...
updated, everything worked fine
I've seen it
I don't know what causes it nor how to fix
they got a static ip, so, I updated the tunnel to use that
I don't actually think it is related to the screenshot now - because it is coming and going
but basically, any machine - if I go to the mapped drive (the other side of the vpn) it just hangs
can't see anything wrong, can ping the server etc
bah, restarting the server whilst keeping my fingers crossed
@djsmiley2k Yes, I do care about who posted the content.
If it's from an established user, for example, then it's more likely to be a compromised account than intentional wrongdoing from the user.
rebooted server, fixed it
I can't handle the sysadmin stress any more... grrr

Ooh my new network (the worst in the UK) has just launched B7 in my city
Maybe

Is it me or is it a major pain to get a self-signed certificate on a Windows server?
I would just go with LetsEncrypt, unless you are using the certs to restrict access
I'm using the cert for VPN
oh
then answer is: yes , it's not just you
Good! :D
The RRAS service requires one for the SSTP encryption, if I understand the problem correctly
I've never set up Windows VPN from scratch. It's pretty messed up
Well, I bet it wouldn't be if I was using the wizard, but that is even more confusing because I'm trying to copy over a config from an existing installation
I have a CA on the same server, but I new a CSR and I just can't get the CSR wizard to produce anything that makes sense
If the CA was the problem, I'd just use a different one, but I can't even get the CSR. And the docs I'm reading aren't helping as they don't match the options I'm seeing
2.1s first tooth has made an appearance
@NotDog B7?
19:04
So ESXi is amazingly simple to install and set up... I had no idea. o.O
Why inject the passengers, when instead you can just record "we're all dead"
19:20
@allquixotic Was added for insulation. Unfortunately they didn't choose the fireproof version (which was only marginally more expensive).
19:48
Perhaps HTTP header changes?
@djsmiley2k I was very tempted to flag this. It could be read as offensive at least to families of airline incident victims.
Please be more considerate in the future.
20:17
@bwDraco ewrrr
1. I meant eject,
2. not really :/
Now, if there was a air crash yesterday, and I said it... I'd agree
20:32
@djsmiley2k Band 7 (2.6Ghz). Triples network capacity and doubles the speed
In practice it means going from about 10Mbps to 100Mbps at busy times
Thing is this is a very unusual transmitter. It makes no sense. And it appears to be in the stairwell of this building.
Which makes no sense.
@OliverSalzburg Wasn't difficult for me..
Install certificate as usual, ... done
Actually selecting the certificate to use is just as much a pain with self signed as any other certificate - and generally involves copying and pasting the thumbprint into the registry somewhere
@Burgi Technically Google is blocked by the bot
@DavidPostill thanks for that
lol
This is very very strange
This area has notoriously poor coverage on all networks so the UK's worst network manages to put coverage here, then restricts it to the stairwell of a hostel?
So said transmitter serves all of five people for about 20 seconds a day, sitting at <1% of it's gigabit backhaul's capacity, while the transmitter outside is serving 10,000 people a day and averages over 90% of its 70Mbps capacity?
I guess that sorta incompetence is what makes the UK's worst network the UK's worst network!
20:48
xD
ok so the thing that has been beeping every 65 seconds since sunday afternoon is NOT my neighbours fire alarm (at least according to him)
Just a bit frustrating the UK's worst network have managed to hook up a gigabit line into this building while the hostel has 6Mbps ADSL and other networks barely manage coverage at all
is there a tool or an app that will help triangulate where the beeping is coming from?
@Burgi Err... yeah if you have a hardware device capable of forming a triangle
Kinda hard with a mobile phone with only one microphone (though some have two, which isn't too much help in a device that size)
@Burgi Ears are very good at triangulating ... that's why they are opposite sides of most peoples head ...
To be honest I was surprised that you thought the beep was coming from some other apartment. Are you sure it is not something inside your flat?
20:57
@Burgi earts
yeah, gonna say...
ears*
cover one ear each to test
and our water has been cut off
@Burgi lol
@DavidPostill [BEEP]
21:13
united utilities has got the dates wrong on their website
and the entire postcode has no water
i can't even make a brew
i can't even go to my parents... they are in the same postcode :(
@Burgi Buy a case of bottled water from the corner shop?
it'll be shut but asda is open...
i should go now before 30,000 people descend on asda to buy all the water up
brb
21:56
@Burgi lol UU suck too
so i get back from asda and the water is back on
22:12
Yay!
:D
likely isolation work to fix something then
Also thanks guys, this phone is awesome enough for me
Now to find a case and screen protector :/
wtf are these o_O
22:43
@djsmiley2k You stick it to the back, then you put your finger through it while holding your phone so you don't drop it.
:O
so if someone tries to nick your phone
they' ring your finger... ?D:
Yea.... I guess if they could pull it hard enough.
@djsmiley2k For a second I thought it was an oneboxed Wikipedia page and was mad at capitalism.
lol
siugh trying to find a case and screen protector in one on amazon rather than 2 seperate items :/

23:19
so couldn't find cxombined screen protector and case, lame
23:37
@djsmiley2k They exist, but they're shite and you don't want one anyway
@Bob Hey bob
I found a mystery Vodafone transmitter on the top floor of my building
i meaN sold as one thing on amazon
rather than buying 2 things
as prime is limited to £5+
so 2 items is likely more than i'd pay for something combined.
41 secs ago, by Not Dog
@djsmiley2k They exist, but they're shite and you don't want one anyway
@djsmiley2k What, no it's not
Unless they started doing that in the last week or two...
erm
no, most things are add on items below that priuce
there's a few on there for £3.50 or so
which is odd, but 99% of prime items are over a £5
I've ordered things that cost like £1.39 on prime
But Amazon is a lame place to get screen protectors anyway, you'll get three for £1.99 on Ebay with free delivery
Had £8 items that were add-on items and £2 items that weren't, but either way it isn't a prime limitation it's just Amazon in general
Add-on items aren't even prime related, they're add-on regardless of whether you have prime or not
Heck I've ordered £3 items with free same-day delivery, Amazon must hate me for denting their profit margins so
Bob
Bob
23:56
@NotDog o.O
@NotDog add-ons are annoying. in the "I can't even buy them unless I have $25 of other crap, never mind free shipping that doesn't exist" way
@Bob Yup
