If you want to be super awkward, buy it with $25 of other crap (or £20 total in the UK) and return the rest
@Bob Yeah it's somewhere between a test transmitter, a high-capacity microsite, an indoor/business hotspot, and a Glaswegian Huawei site, while being none of the above

lol
hmmm
I've had prime so long I presumed add-ons were prime only
pretty sur eit said something like that in the description anyway
yup ok, doesn't say prime
yeha,
does your 'same day delivery' actually arrive on time tho

12:16 AM
It's always arrived on time for me, yeah

Why :/?

12:32 AM
mine dont lol
trhey a lot better recently tho

Heh
I've only had 5 and they've all arrived on the day
Usually between 7 and 9pm

Daughter wouldn't go to sleep during her naptime... Not a problem, stick her in the buggy and go for a 30-40 minute walk, she'll be asleep i no time. :D

"major malfunction" seems like it is downplaying that a little. I'd go with a minor unplanned dissasembly myself. — Baldrickk 8 hours ago

Akinator. I made him guess "Grace Hopper". He couldn't.

O_O
@JourneymanGeek @allquixotic ^
@allquixotic if it wasn't in France... it could replace your SP-128 :P

Bit pricey for me :p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek where's your sense of adventure? :P

@Bob I'm Mr 3 month rule....
I have none :p
Also need to plan PC upgrades, camera maybe, network upgrades, apartment in 3 to 5 ....

Bob
4:52 AM
> The parity RAID code has multiple serious data-loss bugs in it. It should not be used for anything other than testing purposes.
2
yea uh
btrfs... why do you exist

5:15 AM
Because it's better! Or is it butter?

It's a bit slippery to nail down, actually.
Then again, in my kitchen, butter is better.

@Bob $95.38 USD per month for 1 TiB more HDD space than my SP-128 and an extra CPU with the same capabilities as my E5-1620v2, more or less
12 months for $1089.00 USD of the SP-128 = $90.75
so bigger disks and another CPU for $4.50/month or so
worth, but yeah, France

@allquixotic do you not have SSDs in yours anymore?
# zfs send -R tank@backup | pv > /dev/null
37.1GiB 0:00:47 [ 678MiB/s] [                                            <=>   ]
but the gzipped/ftp upload can only do about 20MB/s :\

5:56 AM
@Bob None
@Bob my backups are now rsync of individual loose files powered by cron job to rsync.net
mostly SQL databases at this point

Bob
@allquixotic ah. I'm trying to move all my servers to SSD ones :P
after a rather horrible experience with HDDs recently
@allquixotic most of my important backups are just sql dumps piped through gzip and shoved up to backblaze etc
but since I have this ftp space... might as well store a copy of the system
(| pigz | openssl aes-128-enc -pass pass:<blah>)

somewhere, that comment thread got heavily derailed :P

7:05 AM
@Bob why order? downloadmoreram.com

@Bob That's a pretty big "wrong reply" error ha

or something was deleted

Bob
@JourneymanGeek nah, 20 more comments I didn't load
@MichaelFrank reply was right, just funny in the wrong context (cause only top 5 upvoted shown)

this is quite a good one ^

Bob
oh wow
abs is old
tdcm, anyone? :P

ugh. fixed another PC simply by touching it

@JourneymanGeek I often happen to fix pcs only touching the mouse and keyboard.
@Bob tdcm?

@satibel I literally hit the power switch. No response. checked the plugs. All were nice and snug. Hit the power switch again....

7:49 AM
@JourneymanGeek the psu security went out, maybe?

Bob
@satibel the demented cartoon movie

8:07 AM
morning

Is displaylink over usb3.0 any good on linux ?

@JourneymanGeek is it the same person reporting these issues?

@Bob interesting...

@Burgi indirectly

8:13 AM
@JourneymanGeek do you think it might be a case of them wanting to get an eyeful of hunky Geek?

Bob
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
something's on fire
...smoke from the ceiling
and a smell of ... burning plastic?
WELP.

evacuate?

Bob
yea we're evacuating

time to see if your co-location plans worked

whoa

8:23 AM
its probably the kangaroos nibbling through the cables

Bob
@Burgi we don't host customer data on-site

what about your data?

Bob's on fire? :-o

@NotDog thats just his orange fur

Bob
@Burgi that is a good question
I should probably ask infra sometime
if they at least have off-site s of the svn repos

8:27 AM
isn't it 9pm there?

Bob
@Burgi 6:30

well its hometime then!

Bob
I'll see what happened in the morning
they had facilities in there when I checked, talking about calling emergency services maybe
mostly coming from the aircon vents though

@Burgi nope

@JourneymanGeek the tight shirt, the rippled muscular mouse hand.... who wouldn't want an eyeful of that?

Bob
8:34 AM
now I'm wondering if I'll have a work to go to in the morning

Q: No Enough Space for Gitlab Backup

Q: what is the difference between an API and a package?

Marikit AvendanoWe need an API for a PHP project but the API(OMDB API) is not for free so we looked for an alternative and saw this package called imdbphp(https://packagist.org/packages/imdbphp/imdbphp). Is this package enough to be an alternative to the API or they have different functions? Thank you very much.

I swear I'm losing brain cells by reading these
or maybe it's the toxic smoke, who knows

Why are you reading those?

Bob
@OliverSalzburg I blame the guy who posted the su question

9:00 AM
@NotDog That implies that you have a certificate

@Burgi it's Rahul who needs to beat off the ladies with a stick

@Bob That can be answered. So I did

@JourneymanGeek you just do a low growl, right?

@Burgi no one takes small blonde terriers seriously :(

:(

9:15 AM
It's all 'aww isn't he cute' and 'hey need a projector in room 2'

9:31 AM
I'm running into Markdown rendering issues today. Like let's say you have a link [foo]. You can then have a [foo]: http://... somewhere to link it somewhere
But you can not have two of those short notations next to each other, because [foo][bar] is a different construct
Apparently...
And if you have two lines of text and the second line begins with *italic* text, it can become a list instead

welp we've got a new frontend dev

not sure iuf good or bad
:D

we only interviewed 2 people and he was the only good one
i was hoping for more candidates but...
oh and he insisted on a mac

I just established my site-to-site VPN from our office to AWS \o/
I think I deserved myself a bit of caffeine for that

9:48 AM
...0.02

This opens up so many new possibilities
And a lot of stuff is pretty makeshift right now. Like that VPN gateway I set up via RDP yesterday night in Hyper-V on my workstation
And, I have to say, AWS really pulled through yet again. Their guide is right on the money and the stuff I managed to mess up, their support picked up in it right away and solved it perfectly
Really interesting article overall. I had no idea the Windows Firewall is the service to do that

Bob
@OliverSalzburg [foo][foo][bar][bar]

10:26 AM
@JourneymanGeek Well I flashed openwrt... but I can't figure out how to bridge this connection. :|

@Bob Yes, that's what I ended up doing
But in this specific case, the difference mattered :P

@OliverSalzburg not like a certain m*soft

10:42 AM
@Bob Also, so annoying. [a][a][b][b] renders correctly in Gollum, but [a][a] doesn't. It simply won't get rendered as a link. To get it to render right, I have to use [a](a). When using [a](a)[b](b) though, it doesn't get rendered right either, it will end up as a relative link to a
And VS Code is completely unable to understand what is going on in terms of syntax highlighting
Something is definitely not right here

@Bob @allquixotic @DavidPostill this is what i went with in the end
i figured that if nothing else it will help my new starter learn where everything is

@Burgi What were you trying to do?

show which servers host which sites and how fracking complex that bottom right one is
i looked everywhere for stencils of servers with windows and linux logos

11:05 AM
Might want to check out draw.io

i've got visio, what does draw.io do differently?

user226528
I use Pencil 2.0 instead of Visio. It's free and several gigabytes smaller.

@Burgi From that picture, I assumed you don't have Visio

user226528
Of course, the latest version is 3.0.4.

@OliverSalzburg ah, why is that?

11:14 AM
@Burgi I remember Visio templates to have color schemes with very few colors and a certain style overall that I did not recognize in the image

its the new version shrug

@JourneymanGeek haha

Well, draw.io has many templates with different icon sets. Dunno if there is anything that you don't get in Visio, but I find it very convenient
Although I have not used it extensively myself. A team member is using it though and he's getting great results

it does look good...
wish i had known about it prior to getting the company to buy visio >.<

xD
did u ask
D:

11:25 AM
yes
tbh they've bought me the wrong version. its missing a lot of the database integration templates i'm used to

@Burgi as a rule, it's a good idea to search for alternatives before purchasing anything

@Rahul2001 i did and they were all crap

Huh, well then nothing to regret
Today my sister comes home bursting with excitement. "Rahul, you won't believe this, by best friend has a crush on you. She said you're hot, but not cute" -_-

OMG SO CUTE HOT

@Rahul2001 is her friend hot?

11:38 AM
And then she starts singing "best friend's brother"
@Burgi she refuses to tell me which one it is

Bob
@Burgi ...if you're hosting in Melbourne, of course it's expensive :P

@Bob heh
they are a company based here in manchester
why they are called melbourne i have no idea

Bob
o.O

@Burgi 13 yo

sounds reasonable given your relative ages. don't write her off

11:55 AM
hey weird
a number of friends consider me cute but not hot.
guess rahul is my opposite.

@Avery based on your linkedin picture, i can see that.

stop stalking me

you put it on your fracking website!
plus you said it was ok

meh I was too lazy to change
point is, I don't look like that anymore.

11:59 AM
fair enough

btw, @Avery aren't you 16?

Yes?

"<dev> April 2010 – Present (7 years 4 months)"
you've been coding since you're 9, wow!

i thought you were 19...

(that's not sarcastic btw.)

12:03 PM
@Avery yeah I've been called that too, it was surprising.
@satibel I had my first robotics competition at that age: google.co.in/search?q=fll+2010
Came in 2nd at the national level
@Burgi nope, she's half a year older than me
@satibel That's XKCD number 3(.)14==Ï€!

Bob
something, somewhere, is memory leaking hard

@Rahul2001 well, more like floor(Ï€*100)

Huh, apparently I cannot date younger than 15. I think I broke that rule last year
@Avery yep
Coincidentally, I'm sitting in physics class

@Rahul2001 I'm breaking that rule on a daily basis and I give zero damns.
Works out for us? Works out for us.

@Rahul2001 actually, it's int(100*Ï€)

12:11 PM
3 mins ago, by Avery
@Rahul2001 well, more like floor(Ï€*100)
floor(Ï€*100) is less terrible

@Rahul2001 its the acting older

@Avery oh, I'm f*ing blind when I'm tired

@satibel well, I'm not exactly just saying that I posted something like that already, but mostly pointing out that I feel like floor/ceiling is more flexible and I feel like it's more aimed at trimming the numbers after the dot.

i still think @BenN is in his mid 30s when he is actually 18ish...

lol
and I'm in my early 30s, tho people assume I'm either really young or really old

12:14 PM
@Avery I'm not saying that you're saying that, just that if I had seen it I wouldn't have posted my (shitty) answer x)

ah
@JourneymanGeek it's mostly towards the older side for me

@JourneymanGeek that's like 200 years old in human age.
though, seriously, I assumed you were ~25.

@HackToHell ok.

@satibel ok.

12:33 PM
i honestly didn't know that was a thing...

How can I continuously ping a host every 5 seconds on Windows?

Trigger warning! ^^

I can only specify a timeout for ping, but that doesn't help as the host responds
And I also have to supply a count, I can't make it ping forever
I have to keep a VPN connection alive. Alternative approaches are welcome as well

@OliverSalzburg ping 127.0.0.1 -t

ping -t will keep it forever

12:37 PM
Sweet. Thanks for that

glad i could help you for a change!

:D
First time I'm rebooting the remote DC and it's not dropping from the landscape
And now I'm logging in \o/
BTW, I also tried Windows Server 2016 without Desktop Experience yesterday, because the day wasn't stressful enough

did he drop then?

I thought it could be a nice alternative because I use WinRM anyway. The machine could no longer be operated after joining the AD domain. I simply could no longer log in and that was that
@Burgi Yeah, I was connected to our on-prem network through a VPN connection established on the DC and that was disconnected when I rebooted. So it could no longer log me in
This was especially a problem when I tried to set it up as an RODC (read-only DC)
But even with a "normal" DC, I failed because DC replication wasn't happening
So as soon as you changed anything, your directory would get out of sync

@OliverSalzburg it was a bad joke

12:42 PM
That is not a good thing
@Burgi I'm still not getting it :D

@Burgi you can't have sex with a robot under 18 years old.

is the robot or the human under 18?

@Burgi Noel Sharkey, the guy from Robot Wars
actually called for it to be discussed
he didn't say he knows where to draw the line.

How old is a robot that is built from 18 year old parts?

All the stars?!
3

12:52 PM
Oh my God! It's full of stars!
2

k stap.
2
k ty

I miss them stars <3

nobody speak!

@Burgi Not mine, maybe why mine is so cheap tho

12:54 PM
Oo

tbh I got the 3Gb ram, and the rest of the specs are meh anyway
£250 for 2GB/32GB, exclusively from Carphone Warehouse for now. 4GB/64GB model doesn't seem to be available in the UK yet. Expect it to cost upwards of £320.
Not bad tbh, but too much for me
that battery is only 600? 800mAh more
case comes friday D:

i ordered the steam link the other day.

We need more Windows network admins here, who I can then bug with questions :P

@OliverSalzburg i think @DavidPostill and @NotDog are still looking for work
and i'm fairly sure @JourneymanGeek would leap at the chance to leave his current place...

@Burgi Unfortunately my Windows networking skills are sadly lacking.

1:05 PM
@DavidPostill never too late to learn!

@OliverSalzburg I offer best effort.

@Rahul2001 On my list when I get a real internet connection.

@DavidPostill you have a virtual internet connection right now?

@DavidPostill why don't you? You've been tethering for ages...

@Burgi I meant in this room. I don't have any spare budget for hires :D

1:08 PM
@Rahul2001 I need my own place first. I can't sign up to an contract and then move house ... and I can't afford it anyway.

@DavidPostill this MSP here gives 2 GB per day for 5USD a month
@DavidPostill :(

@satibel I'm wondering when you create a new domain vs. just creating a new OU in your existing domain

That was my friend :/

@satibel tethered with limited monthly download cap :/
Oops:
> Chaos at Asda pumps as dozens of customers grind to a halt after supplier fills garage's petrol reservoir with DIESEL

grim

@OliverSalzburg my email address is getting close to that age

@OliverSalzburg I've been only creating OUs for now, but I guess it's for namespacing (e.g. computer@domain.local)

that said they are a bit backwards in halifax

@Burgi Pretty sure I have addresses close to that age. None that sweet though

how?

1:26 PM
I registered a package that is named index.php
I also grabbed npmjs.com/package/default.aspx just in case

no index.htm?
nightmare prom mitigation? XD
no packages misplaced.

user226528
@OliverSalzburg That robot isn't just comprised of those parts. Probably, a lot of significant assembly efforts have gone into it that are much more recent and some know-how was used in it that are older than 18 years. But it is the sum of the parts, efforts, wisdom, software, testing and launch that yields a robot. So, I'd say it is born the moment it is launched.

@FleetCommand you are saying that because you have a sex robot!

user226528
@Burgi Is that some kind of joke, insult, riddle, quotation or quip that I don't understand? Or may I take that sentence literally and dismiss it as factually inaccurate?

user226528
1:42 PM
Or maybe you just pinged the wrong person.

Well, that sounds almost like you've thought about this
I just figure they're treating it just like porn

@FleetCommand It's a thought experiment, like en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Theseus
Good answer though! :D

user226528
@JourneymanGeek Well, having to work on Wikipedia means I should have studied a number of pertinent court cases about copyright. Plus, there is always the question whether a differently named Microsoft product with the same function as its predecessor must be treated as a different subject and have a separate article.

are we still talking about underaged sex bots?
2

user226528
I was never talking about that certain subject.

1:48 PM
ah ok

user226528
But cases like "the age of an object made of 18-years-old parts" have a lot of applicability in law, especially copyright.

What four letter word ends in K and means intercourse?

@DavidPostill talk?

user226528
There is moron here in my workplace that has given me a hard time because he has written "completed" instead of "complete".

@OliverSalzburg Yes :)

1:52 PM
:D

@FleetCommand I think we're all taking that too seriously

user226528
@JourneymanGeek "Something is complete" is sentence talks about something that is done and over in the past. "Something is completed" means "someone completes something".

nooooot what I was talking about

user226528
(Sigh!) Alright. I'll get of your hair. Talk about whatever you want.

Hello everyone - are you all well?

2:02 PM

@Dave I AM! ...tired.

And for what reason is the tiredness

Well tired?

@Dave Dunno+ I only slept 7 hours, so I'm more tired than usual.

I hear that... I need 8 hours a day, and then another 8 at night to be fully rested :)

2:13 PM
8 hours ago, by rahuldottech
I'm @Rahul2001's sock
Am confirming

@FleetCommand having a rough day?

@Avery wait, what happened yesterday?
I haven't caught up on the news

america celebrated overthrowing a legitimate government
something that terrorists do... just saying...

naw, they usually just blow stuff up
if they ever actually manage to overthrow a government, its cause they went straight or were really unlucky

unlicky must be a dog term i'm not familiar with

2:22 PM
@Burgi the difference between the courageous rebel and the terrorist depends on the point of view.

licky, unlicky, its obvious.

@Rahul2001 that's not today's transcript.
but the day before that, a journalist was arrested for trying to ask a question to someone from government for "disrupting the peace"

@Rahul2001 nothing particularly wrong with a sock unless you use it for suspension evasion

@JourneymanGeek I know, only going to use it from school when I cannot access main account

lol
THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS USING MINE FOR
(almost)

2:32 PM
I want to buy a Keeshond
Go away clippy!!!!!
But I think the UK is too warm for one :(

floofy creatures

Indeed
Although I will probably get a new guitar

and no footwear? ;)

Don't bloody start :)
ha ha, I actually giggled out loud then
and the guy sat near me looked at me funny :(

Bob
@JourneymanGeek did someone say floofy? :P

2:47 PM
@Bob do you still have a job or has the building burnt down?

Bob
@Burgi no idea, ask me again in about 9 hours
was probably nothing
...hopefully
maybe won't have aircon for a while? at least it's not summer

More things learned: An IPv4 tunnel is all nice and well to join your DC to your domain, but it'll try to use v6 whenever possible and your tunnel does not cover that
Also: When the DC promo is taking a long time, it's not smart to start making major changes to your AD to "pass the time"
2

Bob
lol

I think now it's waiting 30 minutes to retry NTP sync with an existing DC

Bob
Question for folks in the UK - does "credit card information" mean something different there to what it does here? https://t.co/IEBNa49cO5

2:59 PM
The "Allow all IPv6 traffic to pass through to this client" checkbox in our router also feels wrong
