@Avery NO IT'S NOT IT'S 9:49 PM
> One of the problems could be that web frameworks try to shoehorn you into a specific design, by pre-determining your folder structure, and often even hard-coding the paths to specific file names, but then they do a rather terrible job of explaining what exactly those files are supposed to contain, and how to add to and extend them.
You just described perfectly my only interaction so far with Angular.

Some interesting game industry news: wccftech.com/high-quality-games-can-release-any-time
Apparently, game publishers no longer need to wait for a particular season to release games, as long as they're high quality.

When a PC is booting, the user sees the following error message:
cat: can't open 'var/run/pcsid.pid' : no such file or directory
sh: you need to specify whom to kill
Heh... This was obviously brought up by concerned users wondering why they needed to specify someone to be killed.
The next line of the FAQ says:
> NOTE: The message is generated by the vendor and is not a <company> message. The vendor is aware of the message which will be addressed in a future version of the product.

@Bob the "Max-Q" laptops are out now
I wonder what the difference is between a non-max-Q 1060 and a max-Q 1070 or 1080
more cores lower clock or something?

Good morning!
Well, not that good
But eh

Bob
5:24 AM
@allquixotic ...I've never heard of max-q

5:56 AM
@Bob A design methodology created by NVIDIA with the goal of creating gaming laptops that are thinner, lighter, and quieter than before while maintaining very high performance.

6:22 AM
Me on SU recently: xkcd.com/386
@GrantWu: That does not replace the CPU clock - it is only used to adjust the speed to follow the clock. This is probably the mechanism used for implementing turbo boost and for homogenizing the cores (cores performance might differ as not all cores are identical when manufactured). — harrymc 1 min ago
what does this even mean
adjust the speed to follow the clock???

6:50 AM
Good luck to you sir. That's a fight not many of us would brave.

I mean, I've given up.

Woohoo second escalation level on my O365 issue

I've gone and asked my acquaintance working on SPARC verification at Oracle, and if he agrees with me, I'll be happy with that.

@GrantWu are they talking about multiplier?

They are claiming that different cores in modern CPUs always run at the same clock speed.
I'm 99.9% sure that is not the case

7:03 AM
@GrantWu I think this is true for intel and amd cpus.
the base clock is something like 100 or 200Mhz.

What is true?
That the base clock doesn't vary?
I don't know whether or not it varies.
But I am almost positive that the core clocks do

I 'm not sure, but at least last time I checked intel has like a 2-5% wiggle room on the clock.

I'm referring to being automatically adjusted on the fly

for non unlocked CPUs

Yeah, BCLK can be tweaked a little
but I would be pretty surprised if DVFS was accomplished through changing that

7:06 AM
the multiplier is adjusted, not the clock, though the effect is the same.
though, it may be wrong, as I haven't checked since like the 3000 series.
IIrc, AMD has a turbo mode at least on the phenom II where they disable half the core to overclock the remaining ones.

hrm, you seem to be using "clock" to refer exclusively to the BCLK
That seems... not entirely correct...

@GrantWu yes, because I'm too lazy to type base clock. :p
though, you can call the multiplied base clock a clock, so yeah, precision.
anyways, duck semantics.

Bob
@GrantWu I'm not so certain, but I did find a forum post by Intel staff saying each core can have independent clocks.
Of course, knowing other forum staff posts (*cough*MS Answers*cough*) idk

A: How to find jobs that are as corporate as possible?

Joe Strazzere How do I find a job that is as corporate as possible? Ideally it would be a large company that's very depersonalised, with private offices or at least sectioned off. No pressure to try to fit the culture. Work with a headhunter in an agency. Specify exactly what you want, and what you do...

> You could also browse a site where folks review their companies, like Glassdoor. Look for companies that are rated poorly with people complaining about exactly the things you would prefer.
lol

Hmm... how do I ensure that the sound on my Linux laptop switches back to the built-in speakers after using an HDMI cable?

Well.. I could just go into settings and change it back...
But surely it should just fall back to the next available device?

@MichaelFrank probably, not 100%.

@satibel In a good way or bad way? :P
500 USD for Atom. Ew.

@Bob in a good way, though, yes it's expensive. :/
though, aluminum body , 8gb ram, and 128gb ssd.

@MichaelFrank install Windows

Bob
I have one of those.
Though, the barrel charging port is fragile
Aluminium body, glass front, alumium (and ratehr nice) hinged/magnetic keyboard...
I'd take the m3 + 4GB RAM over the Atom + 8GB RAM

8:19 AM
Hi! I've purchased Dell laptop and there is Windows 10. I'm thinking to install Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.02 LTS. But before installing Ubuntu, I want to make a recovery disk of my Windows 10. I found two options 1. Control Panel > Recovery > Create a recovery device 2. Control Panel > Backup & Restore (Windows 7) > create a system repair disk.

@Pandya if you just want to back up the iwndows key, you can assoicate it to a ms account too

I want to create recovery disk, not USB. So, Is 2nd option correct?

tho I don't think you actually need to do this
hmmmmmmmm I think it's still 1
but not sure

Bob
@Pandya You want to create a System Image, assuming you're talking built in tools

ask on main site is best bet.

8:23 AM
if you have no documents on it just nuke it and grab the windows 10 iso from microsoft

@Bob I find 4GB RAM to be more limiting than the ~*1.5 CPU performance (comparing my tablet to an other laptop). Also the one you linked is bigger.
also the 64GB disk needs to be accompanied with an sd card.

Bob
@satibel Eh... 64 GB is plenty for a lightweight device, for me.
Though at the moment I'm using a Miix 700 with a 128 GB SSD.

though, it might be just because I tend to use space heavy programs, and not computationally heavy ones

Bob
I'm at 80% usage of 4 GB of RAM...
I mean. 8 GB would be nice, but I think the Core-M really is a minimum.
Noticeable lag on Atom, not so much on Core-M

eh, I can play lol on my Z3740 tablet.

hi

Bob
@satibel My Z3735 tablet is acceptable but noticeable pauses e.g. when loading a fairly simple webpage
2 GB RAM is where things get tight
4 is alright, but not much breathing room

well, I never had CPU problems while browsing, but, yeah 2GB is what's limiting that one.

yawn
right, i guess i should make 2.1 some breakfast. :/

@Pandya Done!
Okay wait, I edited your question, but I think I missed the boint

10:16 AM
Microsoft fixed my O365 account \o/
First thing I did was try the Hybrid Setup again. It worked this time (yay)
What I didn't know, was that this setup enabled directory synchronization. What I also didn't know is that enabled directory synchronization makes the migration path I wanted to use impossible
And, of course, once enabled, you can't disable it. At least not for 24h

have you switched AD domains yet?

I wish!
But I can now open the O365 Exchange admin panel without getting a 500 error
And I just love the fact that I had multiple meetings this week where people were trying to sell O365 (teh cloud) as an awesome solution

Dude aged 5 years in a paragraph

thats a different guy
i love the fact he's always wanted to fly a spitfire but still says his messerschmit was better

That could be a solution

thanks, weird culture channel (Arte)

I love Arte! :D
One of the rare channels in Germany that isn't pure garbage

well, a few years ago, there was a documentary on people who have latex partners.
Arte is nice, though they sometimes have weird stuff.
like "have you already seen"

i threw in a very open-ended question into the interview yesterday. "What new technology are you excited about?" guess what he replied with...

10:46 AM
Lisp?

computers?

"nothing. there is no new technology that i am interested in"
facepalm

computers doesn't seem like such a bad answer now..

there is literally no future technology in the entire world that excites him
heh

10:55 AM
i think it was the guy's first ever interview

was this for the frontend dev position?

yeah

i feel like that's the area where tools are changing the most quickly too

go - boring
tensorflow - boring
self driving cars - boring
crispr cas9 - boring

crispr is actually the one that excites me the most out of that list

10:58 AM
he could have said "warp drive" and i'd have been happy

@Burgi lol

though, if he restricted himself to webdev, not much hype with tools.

i also asked "what frontend frameworks do you use"

@Burgi assembly.

he said "i prefer to write my own"

But, sure, make me jump through client-side hoops for days!

at least, it's resolved.

@satibel It's a sad time where I have to content myself with that
I've had rectal exams that were more pleasant than this support ticket

that was lovely image

@Burgi thanks, bootstrap looks way cool

11:22 AM
@OliverSalzburg imagine : Microsoft rectal exam

The problem is that they're going around giving rectal exams to everyone, when they are the ones that have blood in their stool

@satibel Microsoft Rectal Exam for Windows!

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

@JourneymanGeek turn the datacenter off and on again.

no, the rectal thing

Q: Is it unethical for me to not tell my employer I’ve automated my job?

EtherableI currently work on a legacy system for a company. The system is really old - and although I was hired as a programmer, my job is pretty much glorified data entry. To summarise, I get a bunch of requirements, which is literally just lots of data for each month on spreadsheets and I have to config...

wtf?

@Rahul2001 Thanks for your answer. Actually I don't need to backup/restore personal files/data. Just need to re-establish if windows boot broken.

@JourneymanGeek What's the difference between ear-cup and ear-pad?

12:00 PM
After long time, reverted to my old reputation 101! on SU.
Will system repair disk work in case of broken boot loader or not booting into Windows like issues? @Rahul2001

@Pandya yes, but chances are that it will break booting into Ubuntu
@Pandya :)
@Burgi yeah, saw that
@Pandya the edit to your question was okay?

@Rahul2001 ok. Then I think I was looking for that. I'll run boot-repair if Ubuntu's boot loader break; I hope boot-repair would work well for Ubuntu 16.04 & Win10
@Rahul2001 Yes :)

@Boris_yo context would be handy

@Rahul2001 if the guy came clean now, i'd probably fire him. purely from an ethical/trust point of view

I suppose on a on ear phone it would be a pad, and over the ear, it would be a cup

You know, I'm sick of the fact that you can never escape Google on the web. It's everywhere.
Stopped using Google search? Well, their ads on every damn page are still tracking you.
Blocked their ads? Well half the sites use fonts or other resources from gstatic.
Blocked that domain? Well most modern sites use JavaScript libraries hosted by them.
Oh, so you somehow managed to block that without breaking every website on the web? What about YouTube?
Stopped using that too? Well don't forget about embedded content such as maps which come from their services!
