Bob
11:00 AM
:\

@Bob That SO post reminded me
@satibel Do your stuff

@Mokubai how crazy would it be for him to install enterprise 10 ltsb?
I'm reading stuff about it and it's pretty great, especially about the update stuff and lack of metro apps.

@Bob KILL ME
Oh my god, I had that on my disk the whole time.

13 mins ago, by Avery
You just had a fake proxy, right?
that's a fake proxy.

@Avery That's not
It proxies stuff off the web

11:09 AM
@Avery expensive, but probably not all that crazy

say that he could get it for free, do you think that it's usable as a daily OS?

Bob
@Rahul2001 man, you really need to work on your code style

crashes @rahul 's server

@Bob It's usually better, I'm using a web browser for coding atm :/
So tabs and spaces are all jumbled
@Avery -_-
What actually happens? I'm curious Do not try!

grab a phpstorm copy.

Bob
11:13 AM
@Rahul2001 aceeditor. codemirror.
There's good in-browser editors.

@Rahul2001 I DIDN'T SEE YOUR EDIT

Bob
personally, I like codemirror

what'd happen... it'd likely run out of memory and crash.

@Bob Yeah, I'm using a text field in an HTML form atm
@Avery yeah

Bob
@Rahul2001 how about... not doing that? -_-

11:14 AM
@Rahul2001 just write on a decent editor and copy it to the form?

Bob
even copying the file contents to/from a different editor would be better

@Avery This PC doesn't have a decent editor

@Rahul2001 ace.c9.io

There's a reason I'm not just using Notepad++ w/ nppFTP

ugh I can install phpstorm on my VM and give you creds if you want.

11:15 AM
@Rahul2001 ooooh... that's windows, that's why.

@Avery I'll get access to my main PC in 30 mins, no worries.
@satibel uh huh
You done with shell?

yup
nuke it.

kk

you sure?

don't you have something against jetbrains?

11:19 AM
There. Ready.
@satibel hm?
oh, you mean this

24 hours ago, by Avery
Warning: Leave 999999999 lines between- yeah I'm kind of butthurt about jetbrains' tools.
@Avery I do mean this.

it kind of gained some meme value for me

JetBrains tools are garbage

@OliverSalzburg haha what

11:21 AM
@satibel ...so?

But they're actually worse, because garbage is usually free

@Rahul2001 just a random page.

@satibel yeah, webhost sets that up

@OliverSalzburg why?
anyone I've seen use resharper loves it

Bob
ok, giving up on selinux
getting this working is probably going to require a proper vm
I'm too lazy

11:23 AM
@Avery Okay, ReSharper is an exception :P

you mean the IDEs?

Bob
vscode! :P

they're the slowest thing in the universe, sure, but they're better than some of the alternatives
@Bob botnet.

Bob
that's become my default editor for everything I don't use often
@Avery hm?

I use sublime text usually.

11:24 AM
We've used PhpStorm and WebStorm as the tools of choice in the entire shop for years. In that time I've had almost constant contact with JetBrains to try and fix the endless stream of issues with their products. I have filed roughly 400 bug reports in that time, most of which were never fixed

@Bob I should ramp down the memes a bit, but meh. VSCode does have telemetry code.

No feature works as advertised and every single functionality has at least one bug in it
These tools are supposed to be IDEs and they can't even handle text drawing properly

Bob
@Avery and I say meh

But, hey, you can set a background image in your editor tabs and it supports emoji

this is why you test a code before committing it.

Bob
11:27 AM
disable telemetry if you care, code.visualstudio.com/docs/supporting/…

@Rahul2001 https://hackchal.cf/proxy.php?url[]=
https://hackchal.cf/proxy.php?url=https://randomjunk

@OliverSalzburg actually emoji support is broken.

@satibel ohdamnit

Bob
sublime and n++ are both alright text editors but they're far from IDEs
vscode is a mini-IDE

Bob
11:29 AM
tell me when someone makes a decent python debugger integration for sublime

@Bob omnisharp + sublime works really well for C#

Bob
@Avery it also works really well for vscode, sooooo...

the only reason I'm using rider ATM is because omnisharp doesn't really like unity

Bob
I just found sublime's language support (after basic syntax highlighting) lacking
it does some languages really well
but... python.

@Avery Shocking! :P

11:30 AM
which version did you try last

I complained so much about WebStorm in JS room that they told me "STFU and use something else". So we did. Moved to VS Code. All is better now

߷even߷stack߷shows߷it߷correctly߷
߷or߷rather߷chromium߷

@Avery IS THAT ONE OF THOSE FIDGET SPINNER THINGS?!?

yes.
actually, that's a gbakurunen

Bob
@Avery I didn't. Looked for python plugins/support, found none (more accurately, found a few half-broken ones), gave up.
Coworker bought it a couple years ago. I tried it out for a day or two. Some keyboard shortcuts were nice. It beat NP++.

11:34 AM
I will give VS code one more try next time I'm looking for a new code editor.

Bob
I can't remember why I didn't switch from NP++ to Sublime...
I think at the time I was testing out Brackets?
Used Brackets for a bit but it was pretty damn buggy...

@Bob it's better now, I believe. I still like pycharm more for python, but sublime does the job and serviced me well for months before I got a pycharm license (through student program).

Bob
VSCode is ... well, actually, it was nice from the start but it had pretty bad OOM/crash issues for the first half year.

@Rahul2001 Why not use the portable version of notepad++ on a USB stick?

Bob
They actually somehow managed to fix that at some point.
It's been rock solid for the last year.

11:35 AM
@DavidPostill because my USB stick died. It was new. And expensive :(

that's what usb drives do.

Bob
@Avery I think I switched to PyScripter for a little while
But I did most of my Python on Vim anyway

lack of copy-paste (or rather, difficulty/complexity of it) is what makes me not use vim daily
well, I use nvim for most quick editing stuff

Bob
@Avery lol... y and p not enough?
V to select lines, y to yank, p to paste... works pretty well for me

as I said, too slow/complex

Bob
11:38 AM
though I usually mouse-select to copy across terminals

I don't prefer that if I have a mouse
and I use tmux which doesn't like use of mouse

Bob
@Avery tbh, I usually use the keyboard anyway in other editors
shift+up/down to select lines, ctrl+c/v to copy/paste

that's what I do too

Bob
vim uses different keys but similar principle

but it's not that simple on vim

Bob
11:39 AM
@Avery does it not? I've only started using tmux recently but haven't encountered mouse issues in it

might have to do with my config

Bob
granted I usually use the mouse on the terminal level (hold shift so it doesn't get passed through)
@Avery eh? extra V at the beginning, but the rest is identical?

assume I'm an idiot who's incapable of learning that.
because I am.

Bob
o.O
not that hard?

I will look into learning that later.

Bob
11:46 AM
tbh I only learned after looking it up a dozen times :P

12:19 PM
I was the LXD pioneer among us :P

12:34 PM
> The implications are basically that, in a perfect world, bigger is better, but once your cow is no longer spherical, it will clobber you with its hooves, udder, and other sticking-out bits given the opportunity.

I am an idiot
13
I forgot about class
Now mum is very angry.
Damnit

how did you forget about school?

@Burgi not school

today you forget classes, tomorrow you forget namespaces...
3
what's wrong with you >_>

-_-

12:36 PM
so what is this class and why did you forget it?

I hope that the teacher doesn't yell too much. He already called mum and complained
@Burgi physics, was working on server
Now I'm rushing late

extra-curricular physics?

Goodbye. Maybe you'll hear from me again if he doesn't kill me
@Burgi kinda

tell him a spherical cow ate your homework!

@Burgi fedora 18?
could be close enough.

12:43 PM
er...?

ah

1:01 PM
well, fluff office, if you install 2016 trial concurrently with a 2010, and uninstall 2016, it breaks everything.

Bob
1:19 PM
@allquixotic hmm?

Anyone familiar with software that helps with organization of shipments and tracking numbers?
I use trackchecker.ru but it gets buggy and today it failed. I have to find another.

Bob
@allquixotic you were, but that convo was about vim :P

@Boris_yo you need an api, or just online tracking?
@satibel well, repairing the installation fixed that.

1:55 PM
Any of y'all experimented with PowerApps?

Whoops
Mum is mad at me

well, you did skip class.

Rahul....
@satibel you dipped your toes in MS PowerApps at all?

@varfirstName hm?

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!
my first interview!!!!!
brb

1:59 PM
grats?

@varfirstName looks like
Jun 22 at 10:22, by satibel
@OliverSalzburg Baguette++

@Burgi someone looking for a job?

@varfirstName do you have any experience in non wysiwyg dev?

Non Windows?
You had a siezure there..

@varfirstName what you see is what you get

2:01 PM
non what dev?
oh
oh oh oh

rephrasing : do you have any experience in classical dev?

then it's probably gonna be hell for you.

PowerApps?
I've taken classes on Visual Design
and programming
Honestly no IDE except for Visual Studio has made it easy for me to design a UI

I hate you. I hate you all. I had a nightmare last night wherin which I met all of you and you were all very ... I'd rather not use words... about my level of knowledge and intellect.

2:06 PM
@Nick that's just realistic :*

That's pretty self-deprecative of your subconscious
go see a therapist, Nick.

... Look, I know I'm not very serious somethimes and I fly by as if all I know how to do is Google, and sometimes I don't even look like I display even that skill.

Good morning everyone

@varfirstName I quit therapy after I realized all they do is the same thing I can see on YT ASMR videos online for free.

Morning Ben teN

2:08 PM
@BenN Good morning. You were not in my nightmare :)

Plot twist: Ben N = Ben teN

Actually, you were the reason the last day of PyDev went well here.
@varfirstName cue Moxi theme

Python, Nick?
or Experimental

It started when a programme asked for sudo access, yeah... XD

@Nick how different is that from how we usually are?

2:09 PM
@varfirstName I taught a class of 40+ students Python during a 40 hour course at a training session/internship called PyDev in south India.

Python is so great
oml
I started learning at 6
So lucky my Dad was VP of IT

@Rahul2001 Use psexec -s -i cmd and then issue a setx

now he's CIO

@varfirstName well, the problem with this type of programs (windev, what I saw of powerapps) is that they are quite limited if you go a bit outside of what they are designed for.

@Nick knowledge and intellect? Or lack thereof? ;P

2:10 PM
poor nick

@satibel we're using them for JDE Deployment Requests

@varfirstName gfy. I have a little brother in 5th grade. He's refusing to learn anything! How can I teach him. Any strategies. (btw, I already have the google results open for this XD)

@varfirstName CIO?

Chief Informational Officer
It's a position.

2:11 PM
@Nick find what he likes.

@Rahul2001 I have a Registry thing working on Pro, which will probably work on Home too but no promises

@Nick write public static void main(String[] args){} on a bat and hit him with it

@Rahul2001 I said I'd rather not use words... but for you I should make an exception. Ever since you got a girlfriend, your EQ has just gone down the drain! I'm putting you on my blacklist (people to avoid learning from)

beat the ObjC into him
@Nick I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch that. You're pretty unexceptional..
I tried.
no?
just cringing reactions?

@varfirstName JDE?

2:14 PM
JD Edwards or something like that
Enterprise Management Infrastructure

@varfirstName ...It's been a while since I learnt Java but isn't that line wrong.
@varfirstName What did you try?

That's objective C, Nick..
@Nick I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch that. You're pretty unexceptional..
I tried.
try {}
catch(Exception e) {
}
fool

@varfirstName Sorry, I've only ever tried subjective C
@varfirstName Ah, I know this.

Nick, how quaint.

@varfirstName correction: foolish samurai warrior

2:16 PM
Nick, I would call you anything but a warrior
checks profile
is arab
proceed

Nick you know I can't watch that I'm at work- OH MY GOD THAT'S HILARIOUS
Pain is cupcake

@varfirstName If your use case is basically data to UI, you're gonna have a good time. If you want to do something a bit more complex, it might be on par with a regular language like c#, and over that, Ḩ̟̹͉͍̖͈͔̱͓e̵̵̸͕̰̜̺̰͚̮̞̹̯̝͉͘ͅ ҉̦̲̝̗̖͎̣̩͇̣̲̱͚͎͟͠͠Ç̡͕̻͓͍̲̭͍͖̘̮̀͞ơ̢̪̻̗̟͓̥͎̦͕̩͍͈͓̲̩̥̺̕m̡҉̵̡̰̜̦͖͓̙͙̟̗̝͎̭̫̞ͅͅe̶͏͍̳‌̪ͅş̼̮͔̦̭̲̯̤̳̝͖̗͇͉̘͕̞̣͖̼̠͚̤͓̀͝͡ͅ

@varfirstName I did not know that. There is no status indication saying you were and also, these messages are forever preserved in the transcripts. Feel free to check it out whenever
@satibel I've seen that so much. What is it called?

Obfuscation
or artifaction

2:19 PM
@Nick zalgo source

Ḩ̟̹͉͍̖͈͔̱͓e̵̵̸͕̰̜̺̰͚̮̞̹̯̝͉͘ͅ ҉̦̲̝̗̖͎̣̩͇̣̲̱͚͎͟͠͠Ç̡͕̻͓͍̲̭͍͖̘̮̀͞ơ̢̪̻̗̟͓̥͎̦͕̩͍͈͓̲̩̥̺̕m̡҉̵̡̰̜̦͖͓̙͙̟̗̝͎̭̫̞ͅͅe̶͏͍̳‌‌̪ͅş̼̮͔̦̭̲̯̤̳̝͖̗͇͉̘͕̞̣͖̼̠͚̤͓̀͝͡ͅ into the bedroom, late at night. Creeps in under your bed and when you sleep, whispers into your ear, one...little...tiny...deeply...innocent question... what is a metaclass?
XD

@Nick not true

@satibel wtf! XD

@Avery false

@satibel == this statement

2:21 PM
@Avery For you! You don't live in south India. the first 10 therapy sessions are just BLEH! Stuff you can read yourself. Trivial advice. Unless you know an intellectual, researcher level dude/dudette who can non-trivially diagnose me, tell me. I'm looking for a good shrink andd I've seen too many ducks that quack.
^ here they are
Also, ducks here are known to do ASMR. No one here knows that's what it's called but the principle is the same. Inducing a feel-good during the session:

animal asmr? meh
I like this more:

My boss wants me to make a PowerApps app
needs to give me permissions to make an entity in CDS
needs to give me permissions to make a picklist in CDS

Everyday, I'm going to share something about me in this room and everyday I'm going to try to learn something from this room. Atleast starting July! For the whole of July. This I promise and you can hold me to this. I need my subconsious to register this room as positive.
Especially @Rahul2001 who I want to be friends with!
But I keep taking his over 9000 level of sass personally :( My fault not his. The kid Rahul is actually very witty but sometimes he hits the most hurtful chords
@varfirstName Do what you must. It's your job ;p

Rahul is smart af
##s/smart/such an idiot

@varfirstName That didn't make much sense. Use the !!/help command to learn more.

2:35 PM
really bot-kun?

@varfirstName also not that nice

He said it himself!

I am an idiot

Its ok if he says it
If you say it, eh, we'll deal with it
If the bot says it and get flagged and...
Yeah, don't abuse the bot kthx

The bot deadlocks if it gets suspended, even if the suspension is undone right after, so let's try to not have that happen :)

welp

2:42 PM
rule of thumb, do not make the bot say anything you shouldn't ;)

that guy was too junior

@Avery I like this more, makes me totally relaxed.

aw
for a minion?

@Burgi why? he was too kid-ish? or just didn't have any experience?

@Nick that's a bad way to look at it

2:51 PM
Burgi
How young will you be taking?
at the very least
@Burgi

@satibel lack of experience

Burgi
What's your backend?

@varfirstName age isn't an issue if you can do the work

What is your backend? Node? ASP? Apache? :eyeroll:

@varfirstName asm.

2:53 PM
asm?

assembly :p

don't even joke sati

I actually have a webserver in assembly.

no fucking way!
shut up!

@varfirstName we have both main stacks

2:54 PM
on an ESP.

hm, when did chat go https?

actually, it's a mix of c and ASM.

@JourneymanGeek a whole lot ago

@Nick uhm. I'm single

2:55 PM
@Burgi I know, I'm just wondering what your backend is. If you want frontend work, I could help, depending on what you have as backend.

that's what's running it :p

nice, sati.

@Rahul2001 for now

Rahul

@Nick I apologise. I have rather been crossing the limit.

2:56 PM
Are you 16?

@varfirstName Yeah?

Me too lol
2000 here tho
turning in a month

May '01

@varfirstName i think UK laws would prevent us hiring you at 16

2:57 PM
I'm Jul 24
I'm 17 in a month Burgi
You still haven't answered my question

i did

@JourneymanGeek with a bit of (literal) hacking he could be two.

What is your backend?

you ignored it
4 mins ago, by Burgi
@varfirstName we have both main stacks
