@BenN I think it worked for me on home the last time that you sent it

you would also be subject to immigration issues

Burgi

@satibel lol

I would be willing to help for free remotely

yeah... no

3:03 PM
alright
But what is your backend written in?

PHP
duh

i've told you twice
we run both LAMP and MS Stack

Is the lamp stack light? (I'll see myself out)
Back.

3:23 PM
@satibel !-!

@Bob this

3:41 PM
Any suggestions?
So, my laptop brightness settings won't work on Windows 8.1, but works on Linux.
OH HOW I HATE YOUTUBE TROUBLESHOOTING!
67 wasted seconds to say "reinstall current video drivers from device manager".
And by the way, how the fuck it got corrupted? The only thing I ever use Windows for is Steam gaming!

@ThatREDACTEDGuy you should obviously use linux for everything
5

I only install and uptade Steam, games, and, occasionally, video drivers

PASTA!!!

FUTURAH!

Bob
@ThatREDACTEDGuy Install monitor/graphics drivers.
Did it stop working after an update, or did it never work from the start?
Usually it's tied to manufacturer-specific drivers. Look up the model and hope they have a software download page.

3:50 PM
ideas how to remove this??
this screw
need a better screw set and its annoying me
tried using a rubber band and a screw driver but that didnt work

you need a star driver
i've got loads

yea the star ones that i have are either too small or too big
;[

110 unread notifs in this room XD

@NotAdminDave you could use a hammer
you just want the screw, right? ;)

@varfirstName He is not. He's doing a double joint. Saying he's an idiot to make you think he knows he's an idiot. He actually doesn't know how much an idiot he is. I on the other hand... have another hand... what are we talking about?

3:56 PM
theres 4 of them
i want to unbox this so i can hook it up to my rasp pi and uart it
going to autozone (i think they're called torx screws)

measure the screw before you go

going to bring it with me ;)
later !

@Bob On the contrary, it always worked until yesterday. I ran Windows Update the day before it. There were no video-related updates.

the unit that is..

So Windows just randomly decided to partially corrupt the driver install because, well, Windows being Windows.

3:59 PM
gamma ray burst

@Burgi "Star driver" sounds like something from a sci fi from the seventies.

@ThatREDACTEDGuy that was fully my intention :)

"Universe Child", "Lightning Rider" and "Star Driver": they came from another galaxy to save the world with peace, love and flower patterns!
(well, actually just the first two, the Star Driver is basically just a glorified bus driver)

Is there a shortcut for "Save Image" or "Save Image as"?
And I'm not talking about right-clicking the link and doing "Save Link as"
^ See, isn't this a good great question?

@Nick ctrl+s?

4:10 PM
^---- that

@ThatREDACTEDGuy ----good---- ?

oh
nick has me on ignore
nice

I think it should be the opposite, that would be nice!

I'm not saying that someone should onebox my ctrl+s message but yeah someone should do that.

@Avery You could have told me Alt+Enter+LeftClick and I would still tell you NO!
!!no
:( bot doesn't listen to me. Wtf! ... Oh, he's not here. Do I have to pay for his hosting now? I will do it if you ask, you know.
btw, why doesn't <kbd>Button</kbd> work here but works on superuser site posts. Wtf!
This is unfair!
@Avery I don't. I'm just busy. Too many thoughts. Too few hands to google. I only have i3, can't handle over a hundred tabs.
Got it down to 80!
60!
Thank god for "Close Tabs to the right"!
^ I need a shortcut for this!

4:18 PM
@Avery telegram
@Nick What makes you think you can assume the bot's gender? They have feelings too, you know!

@Nick 71569457046263802294811533723186532165584657342365752577109445058227039255480148‌842668944867280814080000000000000000000 is a lot of tabs. #unexpectedfactorial

@satibel Someone give this man a medal. I have never in my life tried to imagine the inverse gamma function before. Thank you!
@Rahul2001 Caville?

@Nick You don't even know the spelling of his/her name!

Superman is a boy... except when he isn't.

Bob
hm

4:28 PM
@Rahul2001 Cavill? IDK, man! I don't write these things down. I bet you don't know half the words I talk about in even in my first YT video.

Bob
I just accidentally printed 200 pages of something I should not have printed.
And I have no idea which printer it went to.

@Nick linky?
@Bob already printed or in the queue?

Bob
@Rahul2001 ...not a clue

Yank the LAN cable out! *smirk*

Bob
All queues come up empty :S
print icon appeared in notification area for a few mins but didn't open any particular queue... it's gone now..?
@Rahul2001 did that, put it back in 5 mins later
took so long to find the cable that it's probably already printed a dozen pages anyway

4:30 PM
@Bob still better than printing the whole db (20k+pages.)

@Rahul2001 why? I don't like you anymore. Last time I shared a video, @bob disliked it and I felt bad. Why would I do that again? You don't care. I don't care. Nobody cares. Until we actually start throwing some flying fucks at me, I'm not sharing any of the content I'm making this year
@satibel 20k pages is a really small dB. What is he working on?

\fuck/

@Nick Yeah... and YouTube is totally not a public and searchable platform...

See, that's a flying fuck, it has wings.

\fuck/

4:32 PM
@Rahul2001 It is. You can search for the videos yourself. Take all that effort to go click that dislike but please do comment!

Bob
If you're accusing me of voting "dislike" on any video... I've literally never clicked those buttons before. But now that you mention it, I'll be sure to dislike any future videos.
I mean, if I'm gonna get blamed anyway, might as well do it.

This is getting not-so-nice

Bob
Hey. I got called out.

@Rahul2001 I hate the redundancy of your messages. Next time you have a response prepared for me, remember it has already gone through my mind (unless we're talking technical in which case I know nothing, then please proceed talking to me as if I am a 5 year old)

Bob
I HATE getting accused of things I did not do.

4:33 PM
@Bob Not blaming you

@Nick ~100lines per page

@Bob Most people do

@Rahul2001 Cavill is NB and uses xe/xim pronouns.

@satibel uh... still vague.

@Nick Well, if you already know what my snarky redundant response will be, then why do you send the message in the first place?

4:35 PM
@Avery My trans friends hate me using xe/xis, they say it has inclinations. They prefer the "singular they"

@Nick use what they prefer.

@Rahul2001 because my dear child, there are others in the room like @satibel and @avery

@Nick It's a matter of personal preference

@Avery :thumb up: <--- we need this

@Nick I think it has been established before that the underage members of this room do not like to be called "children". Please abstain from doing so.

4:36 PM
Trans doesn't mean they'll use pronouns other than she or he.

@Rahul2001 It's difficult to remember the preference of each person. For example, I once mentioned how many cubes of sugar I like in my tea here in this room and have deleted that comment since, do you remember? You were there.
@Avery I thought that too. Unwin is a transboy who I remember as an Asian girl with short hair who like wearing an iconic Trilby

@Nick BTW, I happen to know every single word in your first video. I take pride in my knowledge of the English language.

?!
One thing you should note is that some if not most trans people will enjoy that fact is spoken of publicly.

Why is System32/MRT.exe running....?
guys help

@Nick You do realize how gender and pronouns might be a whole lot more of a sensitive topic as compared to the composition of your tea?

4:39 PM
Guys
lets just shut up and help me
why tf is MRT running

@varfirstName uhm

Malicious Software Removal Tool
I didnt start it
why is it running

@varfirstName a.k.a. Windows defender

I prefer the pronoun ̴̧̖̺͓͓͉͍͙̞̥̜͍̮̳̃ͭ̔̈́ͮ͐͘͘ ̸͉͈̳͖̱̼͓̗̠̲͍̭̱͈͔̘̌̿̌̔ͬ́͘ͅ

4:39 PM
Windows Defender is different

@varfirstName It's running automated scans and removing bad stuff

it shouldnt be
I cancelled scans

...

@varfirstName That didn't make much sense. Use the !!/help command to learn more.

@varfirstName that language is not acceptable

4:41 PM
^

Please delete the message
yep, k.

Sorry Avery. Just really ticked off because my entire computer keeps hanging

@satibel can you make an pronoun.is example about it so I can use your pronouns properly?

@varfirstName Step 1. Calm Down

Rahul

4:42 PM
Step 2. Give us information
What version of Windows?

@varfirstName I'm going to say "Install Arch" because that's literally what I did when my computer was hanging.

@Avery ##s/made/did/

System, MRT, etc. are fluctuating in Disk I/O
constantly at 99% though

@Rahul2001 it's very hot in here, my brain is mushy
I was running KDE Neon and it was randomly freezing. One time I got very annoyed and just installed arch.

@Avery No problem :)
@varfirstName dude. What version of Windows?

Bob
4:43 PM
@varfirstName It runs routinely on the major monthly patch cycle.
It's been there since ... Vista?

Version 1607 Build 14393.105
Windows 10

Bob
Of course, this is all very easy to find
Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool is a freely distributed virus removal tool developed by Microsoft for the Microsoft Windows operating system. First released on January 13, 2005, it is an on-demand anti-virus tool ("on-demand" means it lacks real-time protection) that scans the computer for specific widespread malware and tries to eliminate the infection. It is automatically distributed to Microsoft Windows computers via the Windows Update service but can also be separately downloaded. The program is usually updated on the second Tuesday of every month (commonly called "Patch Tuesday...
It's not like it's some kind of secret.

This isn't the second tuesday..

Bob
It runs when you install the opdates

4:45 PM
@Nick facepalm

Bob
@Nick I do not have the time nor patience for your trolling.

Excuse me for not trusting Microsoft with my microsoft.

@varfirstName I saw. Bob replied. Chill.

But it's more than just MRT

Bob
4:46 PM
I miss the days when we could have meaningful conversation in this room...

@Bob You can get both time and patience on loan from me. I have a supreme abundance, my good sir.

Bob
Where are you, @JourneymanGeek, @allquixotic? :(

@Bob Me too. Very much. I didn't participate much, but I used to learn loads

Bob
@Nick I'm still pissed off at your accusations.

@Bob It depends on what you mean by meaningful. Link back to one.

4:47 PM
I remember when we called DavidPostill "BelovedApostle"
Good times..

@Bob Which ones. That you came to me in my dreams and started to curse my existance calling me a bane to civilisation. It's already been said and done. The question now is "Now what?"

@Nick I wonder what were to happen if every user of this room got so annoyed and pissed at you that they ignored you?

4:49 PM
you broke the regex.

Dammit unicode support.

Bob
I wonder if I'm going to be accused of flagging that, now.
(For the record, I sat and watched.)

I did that. You can't call anyone "sissy" in a stack environment. That's not fitting to "be nice".
that's not just derogatory, but also is a verbal attack towards those who you are talking about.

@Nick Why do you have to be so rude and ignorant? Why do you cause fights and make baseless accusations?

Bob
Thanks. Good call.

4:55 PM
@Nick We've told you before several times. Kindly, rudely, abruptly. We aren't even hinting anymore. Sort your stuff out.

Bob
Hmm. I appear to have accidentally updated my BIOS :P

I flagged him too, I think he got suspended

He did.
I've got nothing personal towards anyone, but we all should be kind towards each other here.

Q: How to get started writing C in 1980-81

rwallaceSuppose it's late 1980 to early 1981, you've got some software you want to write for the IBM PC which will be released later in 1981, want to get started ASAP, and believe C is the right language for the job. However, a C compiler on the PC does not become available until 1982. What's the cheape...

Bob
5:11 PM
@satibel ...mind explaining for the non-French among us?

@Bob just piling "hug"

Bob
ah
The knife(?) at the neck at the beginning was ... weird.

Though, if you want the explaination it's about managing fear.
The piling is because a lot of people don't like to be touched.
The knife is more obvious.

Bob
ahh

It may sound cheesy, but The idea in systema is to fight with the power of love. (E.g. not fighting with fear/hatread)

5:27 PM
suspension over. it's given me some time to think.
...and I mean really... think
... i didn't write a long rant like last time...
:) Please congratulate me on that
This time, I closed my laptop and went outside.

Well done.
For once, that's not sarcastic.

Goodnight people

I'll tell you the adventure I had later. It was nice. Very nice. I wouldn't have had it if weren't for you.

@Rahul2001 naï naï

But before I went outside, I did stare blankly at the screen for 10 solid minutes and saw everyone give eachother hugs. And that really pushed me into thought.
@Rahul2001 Good night, brain. Keep growing :) Have good dreams.

I will be less of a nuissance if you could point to me to more interesting rooms. I stick around here because I admire the people here and want to be like them when I grow up. I'm not joking, read my words please. Thank you.
Good night :)

ehhh
you people sleep early

o.O
I have stuff to do tomorrow and it's almost midnight.

you people are weird
I sleep at 4am
and wake at 6am
hell yea

yeah, we are the weird ones

@Avery it's 4am right now

@Avery I pretty much sleep 10 hours a day.

@jokerdino ah

Is this pretty much the only active chat on super user all the time?

@Bob working

6:11 PM
@SteveEggering yep

Well then I'll just throw my questions out here, and hope I don't get booted.
If I have an issue with my acer laptop dropping it's hdmi output is super user the right SE to post the question in?

Bob
6:23 PM
@allquixotic not sure if that's a :D or D:, :P
@SteveEggering it sounds on-topic

@SteveEggering that's a troubleshooting question; while on-topic, it's generally good to search (hard) for an existing question that might've been asked before
the problem with troubleshooting questions is they're too open-ended; without looking at and physically manipulating your hardware, no one's going to be able to pinpoint exactly why it's happening
and "my hardware is experiencing this symptom" is not enough info for us to narrow it down because most hardware problems have dozens of possible causes, which leads to extended discussion in the comments like "try X" "didn't work" "try Y" "didn't work" etc.
that's just not a very good Q&A format

Yeah, I know it's tough, it's just a super frustrating situation and I'm really stretching for help now.

well, with a question like that, you're going to want to make the question as generic as possible and hope for comprehensive answers that explore the full range of possibilities; that could lead to the question becoming a "canonical" question that actually contributes knowledge to the repository of Super User

Plus "predator" is also one of their brands of monitors, so when I add HDMI to any search, my results get mucked up with monitor questions

focusing on "I'm having this problem" and not "what's the best way to ask this question that helps the site", in this case, especially when the two are somewhat opposed, could lead to your question being downvoted/closed
not saying it will, but it could

6:28 PM
Understood

there are two further problems with this particular sort of issue, though... One, many of the potential causes of the problem are not easily testable by an end-user; you'd need to actually attempt a proper repair and see if the repair itself solves the problem to know whether that potential problem source was it
And two, most of the solutions suggested are, in fact, not something you could do on your own unless you're very familiar with microelectronics diagnosis and repair and have lots of expensive equipment, like a microscope and soldering iron that are meant for these tasks

@Bob No, it's 4 PM right now! Stop living in the future!

there are a lot of people on this site who don't actually know the proper methods of diagnosis and repairing this sort of issue, which is also a bad thing that could lead you to thinking that the problem is worse than it really is... for example, it could be a cracked solder joint on the HDMI port, but someone might tell you, claiming as fact, "the only way to fix this is to get a new laptop"
while getting a new laptop would almost assuredly fix the problem, it's not the only way if that is the source of your problem; cracked solder joints can be repaired with the proper equipment

There was some news on the TV about the Marshall Islands and the international date line
The International Date Line (IDL) is an imaginary line of navigation on the surface of the Earth that runs from the North Pole to the South Pole and demarcates the change of one calendar day to the next. It passes through the middle of the Pacific Ocean, roughly following the 180° line of longitude but deviating to pass around some territories and island groups. == Geography == === Description === This description is based on the most common understanding of the de facto International Date Line. See § De facto and de jure date lines below, and map at right. The IDL is roughly based on t...

Kaitlin Pike on June 27, 2017

If you go anywhere on stackoverflow.com today, you’ll notice a brand new footer, new About pages, and possibly a few other surprises we’re still testing out (not everyone will see these yet).

Back in February, we updated our top navigation, and today’s changes follow in the footsteps of this effort. We wanted to make it easier for developers to find what they need so they can learn, share, and build their careers. We also needed to make our company information more accessible to press, and to surface our product offerings for customers. …

8:14 PM
@Avery the mos I know is a fet, and not the boba kind.

8:25 PM
Seriously internet? (potentially mildly nsfw)

@satibel That is some weird fetish :)
The English on that site is a bit weird as well. They could use a good proofreader ;)

@DavidPostill it's fairly common actually

8:45 PM
lol
you know a young person spends too much time on the net, when they concider any fetish to be 'fairly common'.
oooooo free drop on cod
lol

@djsmiley2k You don't know what I even know man

o_O?
you're an expert on the fantasies of the general public?

maybe
nnnot really.

@satibel I, what.

How do you explain mr gray then?

8:51 PM
Please don't make comparisons of anything to rape.
Media controls many things

unfortunately, actual cases sexual abuse are much higher than the reported cases. That particular fetish isn't even close to it.

If you're speaking about 50 shades of
OK wtf

Also, yes, some people (including me) can be discomforted by mention of that.
Please do not.

K, Cod just major glitched
gave me all the head armours

Well, too late to delete :/
Though if you look at surveys, it's always in the top 10.
@djsmiley2k good for you.
If a benevolent dictator goes by, they can feel free to nuke that.

8:59 PM
@satibel Not for a mod. Deleted for you :)

Thanks
Benevolent dictator = mod/ro/whoever can.
Btw, @djsmiley2k the "good for you " wasn't sarcastic.

9:15 PM
I am confused @satibel

I mean it could have sounded as "good, I don't care."
Not what I meant.

9:34 PM
ok
yeah I thought that's what you meant tbh
but I'm pro at disengaging :)
Anyueay I'm thinking bed time

Q: Too many files, technologies and languages involved in modern Web frameworks?

allquixoticTo me, the principle of "Don't Repeat Yourself" (DRY) seems diametrically opposed to nearly any Web framework in existence. How can any Web framework be DRY when you are forced to repeat yourself so many times? At a minimum: You have to lay out the front-end UI, telling the client how to see wh...

At a glance, it seems more like a rant than a real question.
@djsmiley2k good night.

@allquixotic +1 for an interesting question. I would like to give you another +1 (but I can't) for managing to rant in a civilised and thought provoking way :)

@allquixotic seems like Entity Framework takes care of a lot of redundency.

@DavidPostill I don't have a problem with being civilized, usually; I'm frustrated but not angry. I'm finding my learning repeated impeded despite spending hours watching tutorials and trying out sample code.
I just don't seem to know how to progress and get really deep into the development of web apps. I don't have that problem with any other domain, because every other domain has actually good design that isn't influenced by implementation details.

9:51 PM
@allquixotic look at CF MVVM with EF in C#

@allquixotic It wasn't a criticism - I was comparing it (in a good way) to the usual rants we see, that are usually so full of bitterness and anger (and swearing) that they immediately get deleted. Having said that most of those rants are posted by frustrated trolls :)

code first; modelview-viewmodel; entity framework; C sharp.

@satibel what's the front-end language for all of that? ASP.NET?

Either that or WPF IIRC
Keep in mind, I haven't done web since a long time, and those, I just heard of.
On that, good night.

hmm... cshtml5.com
