@DavidPostill Yea, that site is all kinds of screwed up.

Guess what? I did hit the rep cap.
The last upvote was at 2332 hours Zulu.

Nespresso machine without a hot chocolate option? HA! Dump some packet hot choco in a cup and hold the frothy milk button on the machine until cup is full. Win. :D

So... got an Xbox One controller a few days ago and have been using it for Shovel Knight and a few other games, on PC via Bluetooth. Some notes:
The biggest improvement is with the shoulder buttons: the triggers LT and RT are now properly damped. The Xbox 360 controller had undamped triggers that were less precise and had hard stops that were very noisy.
Eliminating the need for a cord helps a lot, but battery life is less than ideal (based on preliminary voltage measurements on the supplied Duracell batteries). I'll put rechargeable cells in the controller once the stock batteries are depleted.

12:37 AM
Morning @Bob

The D-pad is a vast improvement over the old design, which had trouble with precise directional inputs. The directional buttons have positive click feedback and are easy to operate.

Bob
@NotDog o/

Other aspects of the controller, including the analog sticks and grip, have also noticeably improved.
So, your thoughts on the Xbox One Controller?
How do you improve upon the industry-standard gamepad? It took Microsoft well over $100m in R&D money to create the Xbox One controller.

1:05 AM
PS4 Controller is still better.

##wiki NarrowBand IOT
...something is wrong.

:(

NarrowBand IoT (NB-IoT) is a Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) radio technology standard that has been developed to enable a wide range of devices and services to be connected using cellular telecommunications bands. NB-IoT is a narrowband radio technology designed for the Internet of Things (IoT), and is one of a range of Mobile IoT (MIoT) technologies standardized by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). Other 3GPP IoT technologies include eMTC (enhanced Machine-Type Communication) and EC-GSM-IoT. The NB-IoT specification was frozen at Release 13 of the 3GPP specification (LTE-Advanced...

Having to resort to such sorcery to get the bot to post what I want it to post is less than ideal.

lol. Work out what's broken and put in a PR? ;p

The wiki command is broken.

1:49 AM
So it seems
So - I got an email from someone higher up at work complaining the website changes I did yesterday were not done. Is it out of line to go "I checked and its the latest version - double checked on a second PC. Here's a screenshot with today's date visible to conform"?
also telling them to hard refresh since tis probably caching

"Hi knobhead, the changes were completed yesterday, however your computer may be holding onto cache files from before the change was made. Please try..."

Oh that was what I meant.
Hi - I'm seeing the latest org chart - updated 23rd june 2017 when I checked. - I've confirmed this on one of the classroom PCs as well as on my own work system.

Its possible your system has an old version cached or saved from a previous time that you were on the website - for your reference, this is what I'm seeing, and the previous version is from may. ctrl F5 should force your browser to show the latest version of the page.
is what I said

It'd be out of line to call them a knobhead... But not to point out that they might be looking at a cached copy.

2:18 AM
also, it looks like I got a second screen at work

Score...?

lol. Better than nothing, for now
I might yonk one of the baking school monitors if the opportunity arose

My current monitor at work is not much bigger than that...
But I mostly use the laptop screen anyway.

Bob
2:37 AM
the one-star reviews O_O
it's a 60 MB download too
wtf
I could fit an entire OS in 60 MB!

2:49 AM
That's what happens when the marketing team comes up with the app themselves...

Bob
what.
the ordering app has a password limit of 10 characters.
my existing password on my existing account has 20 characters
what braindead idiot wrote this shit
@MichaelFrank comes up with? more like told their new intern to write it
wait, not even, my old password was 12 chars... probably because the old app had a 12 char limit
oh lol
their password reset form only accepts 10 chars for the old password
(%^(&^%&@(^%&*($%@^#&*$%#$*(!%^#(%^!#(&%@(&!%$#
their password reset emails me a new password
oh piss off
I could write better password management in my sleep

3:05 AM
haaaahahaha

Bob
worse, it emailed me a 6-character password
that DOESN'T EVEN FOLLOW THEIR OWN PASSWORD RULES

Bob
at least 1 upper case, 1 lower case and 1 digit... they emailed me a 6-char all-lower
great. now neither my old password nor the 'reset' one works
Symbols are ... not accepted?
Are they storing my password in plaintext?!

Not sure what they have against e and g though...

Bob
oh god... it wants me to add a credit card...
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
given this atrocious security...

3:13 AM
All this for a BigMac?

Bob
3:23 AM
@MichaelFrank naw, gotta go quarter pounder :P

My second video on viruses on linux is coming with petya.

Bob
in all seriousness, was mostly playing around with the new app ... which I'm gonna uninstall right about now. the app itself isn't bad but the account system is horrible

actually, with a ton of viruses.

@Bob Do you get the Boss Burger over there?

Bob
@MichaelFrank nah, but they do introduce new ones (and cycle out old ones) every couple months

3:33 AM
Yea, we don't often get cycled out burgers.

3:53 AM
@Avery boo it doesn't work
files a bug report to wine
TITLE: PETYA RENSENWARE DOESN:T WORK

I DON'T LIKE THIS
Need to go meet dad :(

@Rahul2001 hug

@Avery will need plenty of those throughout the day

@Rahul2001 how long will you spend with him

Got a question for our spam hunters: Even with proper disclosure, can it become spam when a user posts across many sites? All answers are valid for the questions.

4:26 AM
hm, across sites is a bit iffy, least from a mod point of view
there's a bit of cross-site co-operation for blatant spammers
but if someone's writing a reasonable number/percentage of his answers, and happens to work on a product, and the answers are useful, specific, and written to solve the problem, it ought to be ok

@Avery two hours

Kind of what I thought. Looks spammy, but is on-point and not just link answers.

@GypsySpellweaver proper disclosure is the key here

oh, there's two element
Proper Disclosure is necessary but not sufficient

Proper disclosure is there, and plainly given, answers are on-point, and include additional information.

4:31 AM
ah
then we'd be inclined to think its ok

What I figured as well. Let the voting handle it, but fp in charcoal

I now have a domain for my home server! bleh.ml

So do it!
Except my server is in a box somewhere...

@MichaelFrank so is that kid I stabbed last night...

Wait.. So do I*
also, that's really dark D:

@MichaelFrank pretty sure my basement is too...
I wonder how that guy who is tapped lives down there is doing...

@Rahul2001 dude. A little too dark for this room IMO

Hey guys. Can one of you please verify a certain page on SU for me? I want to be sure what I see is correct.

user226528
What in the name of ...! I have clippy on my screen! :O

@FleetCommand Don't you just love that fella??

user226528
@GypsySpellweaver Sarcastically speaking, yes.

What page on SU has you calling the eye doctor?

user226528
Anyway, I have flagged this response as "not an answer" but now, it seems to me that maybe, my browser is not showing all of it.

user226528
5:54 AM
The text is certainly clipped off.

user226528
Can anyone see anything past the "As such it is a very" fragment? Or is the truely the last thing on the post?

You see it all.
And NAA is right.

user226528
Oh, good.

Use case, yes, answer = not

user226528
When I saw that clipped off text, I thought maybe he just started off with an anecdote and there is answer after it that I don't see.

Bob
6:01 AM
@FleetCommand lol. the bit asking about ghosting... somehow it makes me feel old

user226528
@Bob Me too.

Bob
Except the OP is almost certainly older than me (going by their profile)

Do they even use Ghost anymore?

Bob
@GypsySpellweaver discontinued

I've always done a poor man's Ghost using dd

Bob
6:02 AM
huh, apparently a version of it is still available/maintained

user226528
Journeyman Geek introduced me to Veeam Agent for Windows. I plan to use that for cloning from now on.

user226528
I used Paragon so far. Before that Acronis. I never actually used Ghost, depending how you define "use".

@FleetCommand tbf, it's half an answer, it answers "how does one go about doing it."

The only system I have to maintain is my own, so I've managed to get by with doing it by hand, so to speak.

user226528
@satibel "how does one go about doing it" was never part of the question.

6:07 AM
> What is “cloning a hard drive” and how does one go about doing it?

user226528
@satibel I know. When the title bar contradicts the body, I ignore the title bar. Anyway, software recommendation is not part of our mission statement.

It don't really tell how to go about doing it either, just what he does with it. No steps to follow, or other instructions.

@FleetCommand that answer is not recommending a software, but a (half-assed) method.
though, some of the answer is missing.

@satibel That's what got the whole thing started :)
If there weren't other answers from that user, I'd have suspected it was a delayed spam post. Clear the filters, then edit in some spam. But that user has other answers. Not all very good, but real anyway.
Some even are accepted answers.

user226528
@satibel I stand corrected. The answer does not even explain how to do it. It only says I do it in such-and-such intervals.

6:19 AM
> It seems part of your answer is missing. (As such it is a very what? ) You may also want to expend on how the disc image is put to the hard disk, which seem to be the part of the question you want to answer. – satibel just now

As a new user on a site (with the 100 rep association bonus) I cannot DV, that requires rep > 125, but can I still flag posts for VLQ/NAA/Spam ?

@GypsySpellweaver I think your downvotes are just not shown

6:37 AM
This guy is such an asshole
What the hell did I do to deserve such a fucked up family?

user226528
@Rahul2001 Whoa! You're dropping an a-bomb without context!

"You're a minor, nothing you say carries any weight in court"
"This case is going to drag on for years and years"

@Rahul2001 Check out this SO post. stackoverflow.com/q/44817824/7412956

I just want this dude to die. I'm sick of this.
He's boasting about being a lawyer for the worst criminals in the country
I'm sick of the manipulation and lies

@Rahul2001 A government lawyer?

6:41 AM
@GypsySpellweaver my father.
He's ruining our lives. Doesn't stop there apparently.
Fucking hell.
Sorry, I'm in a fucked up mood
Being forced by courts to meet the guy who has ruined our lives doesn't go down very well with me

*hug*

He broke my family

7:05 AM
My grandmother is in terrible depression because of him
My mum is always stressed
I need to carry a fucking knife everywhere in case he tries to hurt uh

Anyway, I have to go now
Goodbye
Sorry for the rants and depressing messages

That's what I get when I try to open the KB article for the issue I'm having
Good start for the day

8:15 AM
I'm just going to install Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.02 LTS from USB on the laptop in which Win10 installed. Though I've created a system repair disk. Should I care about UEFI? Because I've no experience with dual booting with UEFI & GPT. I used to do with traditional MBR on my Desktop PC.
I mean choosing partition while installing Ubuntu.

Bob
@Pandya UEFI yould 'just work', though you might need to turn off secure boot if you don't have a signed bootloader
16.04 should have a signed bootloader
hm, maybe not

8:49 AM
@Bob worst case scenario, this triggers a glitch which creates an AI that destroys the entire universe.

@satibel that's no big deal... :P
> Additionally, another exception occurred while executing the custom error page for the first exception.
facepalm

That's how I felt :P
But I think I found the solution myself

Q: Error: MigrationProvisioningPermanentException: The name is already being used

Oliver SalzburgI'm trying a cutover migration to Office 365, where I already have existing users. The migration shows this error for some users: Error: MigrationProvisioningPermanentException: The name 'some.one' is already being used. I don't see that name in any of the existing user account settings or ...

The support tech blew my mind though. Showed me that you can just start existing migration batches again, even while they are running, to retry only the failed mailboxes

Til, a pallette knife is a perfect tool for removing signs from walls

Are there any free alternatives to letsencrypt which don't require ACME?
(cc @Bob)

Bob
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck me left my phone on the train
1hr detour to hopefully pick it up
@Rahul2001 use dns challenge
Also XY question

Oo
@Rahul2001 what's wrong with le and acme?

9:56 AM
@JourneymanGeek my server software doesn't support ACME
@Bob ow :(

@Rahul2001 can run le standalone

Finally I successfully installed Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.02 LTS; can dual boot with Win10 on my laptop. /cc @Rahul2001 :)

Bob
phew. such a relief feeling my watch get the missed call
it means I'm close! (another passenger handed it in a few stations down. got a call through to him via station staff)
@Rahul2001 I always run certonly anyway

@Pandya yay \o/

hm

11:02 AM
@djsmiley2k those are mails that manage to pass the spam filter.

Bob
@Rahul2001 there's a PowerShell version
I'm not kidding. I use it on a windows server

@JourneymanGeek they do.

People have to stop saying the old generation word ROM..modern EEPROMs are called NVRAM

11:19 AM
@defalt NVRAM is in use?
(this is only half sarcastic, I'd like to know if I missed something.)

11:43 AM
@satibel that's a possible option for @Rahul2001 then, even if its not properlike certs

11:57 AM
wow they finally fixed my google account \o/

@djsmiley2k What was wrong with it?

woudln't load google photos in google drive
it'd litterally load like the last months worth, and that's it
(of 30Gb of photos)

what was wrong with it before?

Bob
oof
back in my comfy chair
I used letsencrypt-win-simple github.com/Lone-Coder/letsencrypt-win-simple
designed to work with IIS but also works with standalone HTTP server
@defalt NVRAM is called NVRAM. EEPROM is called EEPROM.
NVRAM might have replaced EEPROM in some areas, but EEPROM is still very much in use in modern hardware.
Though that depends on which version of the term you're using, I suppose...
If you're going by the literal meaning... yea, there's a lot of memory that satisfies both.
Oh wait. brainfart.
s/NVRAM/NAND/ for my messages -_-
NVRAM being the more generic term that covers basically everything.

12:23 PM
@JourneymanGeek I don't like cloudflare, because of all the TOR blocks :/
@Bob wow, okay, thanks!
@Bob got phone back?

only missing my minion a small amount...

@Burgi He's gone already?

@Bob is thery any architectural difference between EEPROM and NVRAM. I read somewhere that PROM, EPROM and EEPROM are collectively called as NVRAM.

@DavidPostill it was his last day yesterday

@Rahul2001 cloudfare blocks exit nodes?

12:34 PM
@defalt yes. But they claim that it's because the high traffic gets them detected as blocks.

@Rahul2001 Oh yeah their DDOS protection system.

@Burgi you can run mosaic on Ubuntu :p

Bob
@Rahul2001 yea I had it back by the time I mentioned the watch :P
(thank god)
@defalt EEPROM is a type of NVRAM. I misspoke in that message - I meant NAND has replaced EEPROM.
(NAND also technically being a type of EEPROM, but normally EEPROM refers to byre-erasable memory where NAND is block-erased.)

12:50 PM
Electronically Erasable Programmable Read only memory?
I went to school!
:D

Bob
@Burgi Oh god. For some reason that reminds me of guestbooks.

lol
i had a guestbook on my site :)

Burgi
I hate this computer pls halp
Disk I/O Dropped yesterday
I fixed it
now it's back again
I updated Windows

Current paging file size for all drives

you aren't my type

I find it hilarious
that 20 MB/s isn't considered 100% disk
but 4.6 MB/s is
I know it's because of disk idle time but man that's funny

12:59 PM
actually I won't do that.

thats not racism

Avery, you're a nice person.

It was a joke

I know
You're a nice person for removing it in case someone got offended

what does the program do?

something like a mobile game for an indie card game.

Indie card game... I know this. It's like Hearthstone but cooler, right?
Talked about at E3?
no?

1:24 PM
maybe

did you not see @Avery on stage doing sony's presentation?

What
Avery you famous? :o

see unlike those random sales people I know how to talk.
I can't talk in front of millions, but at least I know what to say
"we have the pixels, the best pixels" isn't one of them.

what's the game called again?
I saw it on IGN's indie coverage

(I'm not working on that)
(this is truly indie)
when you go to e3 you aren't indie anymore

1:27 PM
oh
rip
Did you actually announce things at E3?
I wanna see

I did not
Maybe one day.

I have some talks but I won't link them.
