10:00 AM
@Psycogeek: which is precisely what i hate about social networking
thinks community + self run personal sites = awesome internet
as opposed to a controlled regulated corporation centric one
i also suspect social networking has drawn in a lot of the sepember set
which is good

I can honestly say i have never visited facebook, or twitter, nor do i have a face, or tweet. But i sure would like to know what i am missing.

Facebook and Twitter are like your personal version of 9gag/reddit.
*the comic part of the reddit

i don't use facebook much
twitter not at all

I used to use both. Now not much facebook(got bored). Twitter also little, just when I need some quick reference.

reddit is cool, i like how it is Free, to bad they think it needs to be moderated to death. there should be places where there is complete chaos, and there should be places where you can grind a rail.
of course, i also believe they should make locations were a person can jump off a bridge :-) that personal freedom thing.

10:06 AM
I think of what web would be 5 years from now and think of start building something that'd go with it from now.

lol
@Psycogeek: nothing stops someone from building another 4chan ;p

just like reddit, where they can jump off the bridge, we can just have a nice big container under that spot, so people can see what happens :-)

How do we do that?

well if it is like the bridge, you have your normal site where all the ants drive thier little cages , and everyone is safe. then a small portion of the same is dedicated to Chaos.

or Instead of people searching for whats happening near bridge, and when he finds it, "Oh, that man jumped!", there should be something like Whenever someone jumps, he'll hear it loud and clear, "Hey, that man jumped!"

10:12 AM
but unlike stack exchange , they should have the same log-in

Someday there'd be something like Authenticated Web.

@Bibhas There should always be a back button, so if someone doesnt care to see people jump, they can hit the back button.

@Psycogeek Yeah. A mute button too maybe. "Yeah, i've seen one man jump. dont wanna see again."

That is what we used to tell people who "didnt like what they were reading" Just hit ALT-F4

lol.

10:15 AM
Which begs the question, does the back button work at Reddit? if it does then Use It
the "wow this is really offencive" so " i will stick around here and read and discuss it for all this week" has its advantages
@Bibhas I am not sure i like even the log-in "one for all" they have being implemented now. i wonder what can or will go wrong with it?

@Psycogeek You mean OpenID?

I am ok with 2 log-ins one for goofing around, and one that is "secure" . but to think that the same authentication used to chat, is used to link to my bank account?

The internet does not have an architecture that can really support this
(nor should it, in my opinion)

howdy fellows

Hello

10:23 AM
was bored over the weekend, wrote a small app to show last 30 suggested edits

Well. banks would never go for it. that for sure

excuse the crudeness of the page

BUG FOUND!

lol

First hyper link is http://stackoverflow.com.com/suggested-edits/199858
.com.com?

10:24 AM
ah crap

:P

mismatch in the hash, late edit.

@Bibhas even if they were to go for it, there is no way to enforce it

se-suggested-edits.heroku.com/?site=su will bring up Super User's suggested edits list
5

What is heroku.com?

10:27 AM
I do not mean just bank account, I mean e-bay, amazon, newegg, and the other 30 places i Buy stuff online. i would never want those to be under a single log-in/password. . Get ahold of one, and have them all , that would be way harder to damage control

@Psycogeek, there is no way to force such a thing

@soandos but it does seem like there is interest in implementing it. "you can use the same . . ." "cause its Easy . . ." sure and so is not having a backup .

@soandos it's a PaaS for Ruby, Java etc
@Bibhas fixed

There are two ways of going about it I suppose

Authenticated web - you authenticate a device/identity and whenever you access a webservice, it detects your authentication and works with it. no more sign up and sign in. Cons: The authentication control should be owned by User. Or else things gonna screw up really bad.
@Sathya Yeah, checked it. :)

10:30 AM
one that has a central repository of logons (Open ID)
The other that is managed by the site

@soandos OpenID has implementation issues. People are scared of it.

I know
but even there
you can get as many of them as you want
they themselves are not tied to anything
(I can have 50 Yahoo! accounts)

@soandos like the central repository (actually one of five) for credentials that got busetd into. All eggs in one basket

No, because you can have multiple accounts at each that are unlinked to each other

@soandos today, but what about when Skylab takes over :-)

10:33 AM
Nothing we can do anyway?

OOps i meant certificates, not credentials

Skynet*
Trello looks a lot like Pivotaltracker.

@soandos Not accept the "easy" one for all log ins? and claim that they are a breech of security, and condemn thier existance, like having one key that fits all your cars.
I wish i did have one key that fit all my cars, as long as it isnt on the web :-)

Anyone want to chip in and get this? - positech.co.uk/winterbundle Additional bundles are half price... if anyone wants, I will be buying mine in a few minutes, so we can split total costs between all of us!

@Psycogeek, the important thing to consider is that there is nothing that inhernently ties my offline life to my online one

10:36 AM
@soandos We already discussed facebook before you came in :-)

@WilliamHilsum stop hoarding :P

@Psycogeek I don't have one

@Sathya :P
bargains bargains bargains!
I am only buying when things are on offer! Don't see them getting any cheaper any time soon!

haha
off to take a nap

@soandos even if it was say 20 log-ons to forums, all under a "all for one" log-in that would be 20 times the damage control needed.

10:40 AM
@Sathya Have a good rest!

But I can control how I want the many to many relationship to work

@soandos the 5 corporations that control the internet will control that for you, by making it easy .

No. I will have as many accounts as I want at each of those, and thereby control what account is linked to what however I want

Just came in mind, Why exactly don't we have the cut/copy/paste buttons on keyboard?

First they will get you to use thier amazing search engine. Then you will log-in to the amazing search engine. then all your links will be redirected through that amazing search engine. then you will get your e-mail through that amazing search engine, then your log-in will be via the amazing search engine. That would be bad :-)

10:44 AM
Kinda not seeing the benifit for google or yahoo or whomever....

then you will have a web site, and that amazing search engine will suck up all your data, and present it to everyone without a visit

What's the URL for a post's history again?

/posts/<id>/revisions ?

Not revisions, there's another view.

Two guys took my comment and made it answer. :| Talk about redundancy.

Q: Control computer over internet

DoomStoneHello i have moved from my home country Denmark to America. This have left a gab in my family as i am apparently the only one who are able to handle a computer. When i lived in Denmark was this not a major problem as i could always come by, but right now am i on the other end of the world, so thi...

10:49 AM
@soandos the benefit to them? Power , control, and Shopping :-)

I think none of the above actually. Minimal power, no control, and none of them are about shopping

@Bibhas Huh? Dedicated buttons for copying?

@Bibhas, Its a duplicate. Don't worry about it

@DanielBeck Yeah. :P
Most people use that ctrl+c and ctrl+v all day long anyway.

@Bibhas We'd have to get rid of way more politicians for just copying & pasting their doctoral theses together, that's why.

10:52 AM
@Bibhas, I can second that. Its a pain to deal with

@DanielBeck http://superuser.com/posts/<id>/timeline ?

@Bibhas That's the one. Thanks!

@DanielBeck No problem. :)

Q: Can question timeline be available for deleted questions for 10k+ users?

YOUFor example, this question's timeline is 404 for 10k users, who are supposed to be able to see deleted posts. http://stackoverflow.com/posts/2757210/timeline So, can we 10k+ users be able to see deleted questions' timelines like we can on revisions?

Shit.
Not having access to stuff for no good reason even with 30k site rep is starting to annoy me.

11:14 AM
the captcha robot

11:25 AM
Look what I just did
See anything strange? :P

@Bibhas no is this one of those hidden word puzzels?

@Psycogeek lol. no. Look at the right of flag.

Yes, it is one of those hidden word puzzels :-)

:P

I dont touch any of those things, bad things happen . in fact i need a question to put a bounty on, so i dont ever have to deal with such things.
Link (spam sombody with this sh||) Edit (cause i cant read english well enough to to interpret a few errors) Re-Tag (because the Questioner thinks they are texting, what with because they didnt Say) Flag (because we need more closed questions and ticked off users) Revisions (because reading it once wasnt Enough)

11:42 AM
@Psycogeek Hello

Hi boris, did you fully fix that computer yet?

12:00 PM
hmmm was having the new twitter for two days, now it dissappears :/

got a downvote for an OLD question, where mine was the only answer, with no explaination why ._.
least whoever it was could have done was... put a better answer so i could be enlightened

1:20 PM
@sidran32 There are variations on that.
@DanielBeck All it takes is a one line userscript. :)
Or well, the userscript linked by Sathya.

1:32 PM
@JourneymanGeek That is always somewhat infuriating

2:04 PM
@JourneymanGeek Happens to me. People have downvoted my question for being a duplicate before, it's rather annoying :/

2:48 PM
@Sathya Nice. I could get used to that.

3:47 PM
@JourneymanGeek What?
It should be made mandatory to provide a reason to downvote, right?

@Bibhas no.

@Sathya I'm pretty sure this question came thousand times here, but why not?

@Bibhas Because humans are entitled to an opinion.

there already exists a 'reminder' that you get once.
Also, this:

@SimonSheehan Well, if they left that opinion as a comment, other people could also get some opinions.. :-/
@Sathya I knew you're gonna point to a meta question

KevinI don't know if people don't explain why they up or down vote because they don't care or because they don't want the person to know they voted on an answer (or question)... Q: Another "downvote-response" proposal: allow user to cancel a downvote if he leaves a comment to the answer

Pavel ShvedSimple, clear, useful. If you left a comment before you casted a down-vote, you can cancel it without editing the question. Inspired by litb's proposal on that matter.

MSO to the rescue.

@Sathya Thanks a lot for all these links. I get the point now. You can stop.

6 hours ago, by Sathya
http://se-suggested-edits.heroku.com/?site=su will bring up Super User's suggested edits list
@Sathya How often does this page get refreshed?

@SimonSheehan instantly. It uses the API. I haven't set any caching yet

@Sathya Oh awesome, that's great. Did you make it?

4:06 PM
yes :)

@Sathya it runs using Ruby ?

yes, @HackToHell runy & sinatra

@Sathya Awesome work then :) Helps out users like me who don't have 10k tools. tosses you some rep

I haven't mapped the other sites yet adding so / sf to ?site= will bring up Stack Overflow's & Server Fault's suggested edit list

@Sathya like Django ?

4:09 PM
@Sathya Does the page auto-refresh, or will I need to refresh manually?

@HackToHell more like web2py / flask
@SimonSheehan no auto refresh yet

@Sathya Okay.
Still awesome

I cooked it up in few hours and I suck at design :P so no styling etc applied

Haha, nice

@Sathya Do you have a minute?

4:11 PM
you're welcome to show me a new design though. :P
Sure, @DanielBeck

@Sathya I'd like to suggest adding it so that it tells you if its been rejected/approved already :P
In the long run anyway

@SimonSheehan that's not available in the API, else I'd have added it.

@Sathya Ahh okay.

@Sathya Could you migrate a few of my topics from MSU to MSO? It seems they've gathered their supporting upvotes and are otherwise finished, without reaction from anyone.

@Sathya You can add some cool CSS3 animations to it, then it will much more fun :)

4:14 PM
@DanielBeck I don't think the migration is going to matter much. As such I've already highlighted some of your questions to the team
@HackToHell I'm not versed with CSS ;/

@Sathya I got no status-declined or other statuses assigned though.

All I've got so far is "we're looking into it"

@Sathya s/we're looking into it/go away/ :-/

well, perhaps.

at last got skype installed in Fedora.

4:20 PM
I didn't know community approved suggested edits o.o superuser.com/suggested-edits/8701

@SimonSheehan Community is a moron anyway. 0 rejected edits.

@DanielBeck Haha. But still, I don't understand why community would do it.
I feel like it SHOULDN'T.

11
Q: Improved edit suggestions approved by Community

Michael MrozekWhen an edit suggestion is "improved" instead of flat-out approved, the suggestion is still marked as approved, but the approver is listed as Community instead of the user who improved it (example). It seems like it should still attribute the approval to the user who improved it, as they're the o...

Ah thats why

@Sathya I think it's worth a try. As I said, they got all the support on SU they're likely to get... Could you please migrate 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 to MSO?

4:36 PM
@DanielBeck not too sure if that's wise or not

@Sathya Could you please explain?
I insist on the first one. Several users of Apple.SE have voiced their disappointment of not being able to vote.
@studiohack You should delete that. Chat history is public.

@DanielBeck I know... my point is that insisting to a mod that a question be moved isn't the way to go... that's all
we can discuss it. but in the end, it is up to the mods discretion and SE as well. SE says that we can leave stuff on our Metas and it still gets seen by SE...

there's an unwritten rule about migrating from one meta to MSO only under rare circumstances. That's why you don't see migration to other sites on meta. I'm not sure why you insist on posting engine questions on Super User meta & ask for migration when you could've posted on Meta Stack Overflow
I know you feel Meta Stack Overflow feels more like SO's meta than the Stack Exchange meta, but that's how it is.
It may change, it may not.

@Sathya I'd probably do it differently if I had known this was such a big deal.

Also, like I've said, I've already brought it up with the team & they said they've had a look at it.

4:44 PM
So far, 8/8 topics have been migrated upon request. I'm quite surprised right now.

It's not that big of a deal @DanielBeck - but we can't just keep moving stuff around. @Sathya said that SE has been notified. for now, we wait.

Would've been nice to know before I posted the topics you know. Are these rules about meta migrations documented somewhere publicly?

@DanielBeck perhaps - will have to lookup

@Sathya Or, you know, a warning with one of the migrations. It's not a new occurrence I'm doing this.

I obliged with the first few because they were exceptions. I wanted to make this clear, hence the message now

1 hour later…
6:03 PM
Someone using OS X Lion and can verify a bug?

6:30 PM
@Sathya Next time, please make it clear while still acting accommodatingly. You're introducing new moderation policy unexpectedly after exclusively acting upon quite a few requests identical. I also have found no reference for this new policy, and it wasn't mentioned even once on all eight previous migrations. "Only under rare circumstances" is different and should be communicated differently.

@DanielBeck I know you've been posting a lot and think things aren't getting attention on MSU. That isn't true. It's just a case of resources and priorities. We see them. We're not ignoring them. You have my word. (:

@DanielBeck right, next time I'll just ignore them instead of going out of the way to help you.

6:48 PM

@RebeccaChernoff - Hi, Been so busy recently... Did the format work on the hard drive?

8:37 PM
@WilliamHilsum Haven't looked at it yet. Haven't rebooted since, so it hasn't annoyed me lately. (;

Anybody knows how smartphone tethering will allow me to bypass Wi-Fi in hotel?
People say they don't have to pay fees for hotel's Wi-Fi...

Bloody hell... I was trying to listen to some whispering in a movie on youtube and turned my volume right up... That notification made me jump like crazy.... second notification shock I have had in about a week! damn...

@WilliamHilsum :D

crap... my heart is actually pounding... bloody hell that was scary!

@WilliamHilsum Happens to me when Avast decides to tell me that it has updated itself at 3am in the morning with the headphone on.

8:39 PM
lol, sorry q:

@RebeccaChernoff lol, and more seriously, that's cool... just let me know when you have time and I will try to help you further, but, it is a weird one and honestly, anything I try will be (almost) guess work, but, I think formatting will be the best bet at the moment
@Bibhas glad to know I am not alone!

@WilliamHilsum @RebeccaChernoff @Bibhas The worst part is when watching "quiet" YouTube video with the scary face in the end on full volume.

There is one page that someone told me would give a freight and it did even with the warning... i'll try to find it...

@Boris_yo Thats old trick now. You automatically prepare yourself when the video is unusually quiet.

@Bibhas How about trying to solve "puzzle"?

8:45 PM
@Boris_yo yeah, that might work.

Like this one? @Bibhas
This one is better:

9:09 PM
@WilliamHilsum What is this?

click it! lol

@WilliamHilsum My speakers are off ;)

turn them on first!

@WilliamHilsum Ahh na-na-na ... You don't!
It is freaking full screen and this is why i stopped long before...
@WilliamHilsum You should put disclaimer officially here, otherwise you would be framed for premediated murder.

@Sathya I'm sorry you think that I don't appreciate what you do, like bringing these issues to the team's attention. I've said it before, the moderators on this site are generally doing an exceptional job. Otherwise I'd probably not care about the site enough to raise these issues at all. But your usual dedication makes the few bad experiences stand out that much more, like with what seems to be a change in moderation policy today.

@WilliamHilsum Shootthawoop?

Is it useful to post a question and answer pair along the lines of "Why is there some weird behavior" / "It's a bug, here's how to circumvent it"? I've posted question/answer pairs before, but not bug related.

9:43 PM

@TomWijsman lol... was that clip made for that segment then or something?

@WilliamHilsum: Correct, it's a SNL sketch. :)

@TomWijsman lol, wish I could get SNL here! Thanks for that... I knew it was fake, but, always wondered the full background (and now I said that, I have a feeling you said SNL last time it came up!)

Suggested edit page @Sathya made just died.. hopefully it comes back up soon

@SimonSheehan What page?

What was it supposed to do?

@TomWijsman It showed suggested edits almost live (I set it to auto refresh), which meant under 10k users could have a list

@SimonSheehan: Can't they just visit the page for that? Or has that been protected?

11:52 PM
@TomWijsman Link it to me? It's restricted to 10k+ users from what I know.

Yeah, has been protected.

Yep, need 10k tools
:( Being low rep sucks. Although I have been answering a lot more questions lately

@SimonSheehan: Just keep clicking on Questions and you'll get there.

@TomWijsman Eventually :)

Also check out the Bounty questions, of course... :)

11:55 PM
I'm apparently the 12th top user on Meta though

Heh, @SimonSheehan, haven't seen that page.

Yeah, but it has changed, I think...
