What screenshot software are you guys using? Jing doesn't work on Windows 8 DP and I planned on ditching that a long time ago because of the bandwith cap.
Lightshot fails to take screenshots from administrative applications, so that's also not an option...

>_>
printscreen + paste ? ;p
unless you mean for videos, i think vlc might work

1:55 AM
@JourneymanGeek Well, to upload it. Take screenshot, get link, as automatic as possible.
I don't want to go through additional "save it" and "upload it (browse on computer)" steps, Jing didn't require me to.
So, basically I'm searching for a replacement of Jing/Lightshot which works better.
I remember @Sathya had something like that... Right, Sathya?

@TomWijsman FastStone Capture... Love it

3:59 AM
@TomWijsman yep.. sathyabh.at/2010/02/25/… no idea if it'll work on Win 8 or not..

Q: Git Client for OS X & Windows?

GooberDoes anybody know of a stable release of a GUI Git Client? Preferrably one that can run on both Mac OS X & Windows..... Heard about SmartGit but it's still in Beta and i'm not sure I have time for trial and error. If not, A stable one for either OS would be suitable too. Kind regards **E...

Why don't people recommend cygwin that's really what I want to know

@sabgenton Sorry, I only used it really briefly - I switched to Mercurial
and, read my answer, I wrote cygwin!

you wrote cygwin?

I thought you said you read my answer!?
1
A: Git Client for OS X & Windows?

William HilsumBefore someone else says it, you could always install CYGWIN and run GIT natively, however I am not a fan of that! I found this - Msysgit which appears to be a native Windows implementation of Git.

@WilliamHilsum The think I don't like about msysgit is its so hard to get full linux features with
cygwin is easy
I asume you mean you wrote "cygwin" in you post rather than made the cygwin platform hehe
It looks like it you post your mentioning cygwin then saying msysgit is better

4:55 AM
@TomWijsman also, do check out snaggy Just hit ctrl+v to paste and it'll take care of everything

@WilliamHilsum so you have no qorals with cygwin but have only tried msysgit?
@WilliamHilsum have I summed it up?

5:45 AM
@sabgenton: i suppose it depends on whether you need just git, or the whole environment

6:05 AM
@JourneymanGeek yeah but because of those to options there's two whole projects

kill msysgit move all the dev's to cygwins implementation I say
:P

thats the lovely thing about open source ;p

I was hoping to arouse some criticism about cygwin
one criticism for msysgit is it doesn't preserve file modes/permissions
for linux project on windows that would be a pain
I think I'll use Mercurial for windows projects

6:39 AM
Freaks me out that when that question was asked I had never used Git, now I've moved from SVN to Mercurial to Git and can actually answer it :|

7:00 AM
thats normal. means you levelled up since then ;p

7:39 AM
@Diago what do you like cygwin or msys
I like git but I which it wasn't so dependent on bash and perl

@sabgenton I use whatever is built into TortoiseGit. I use a Mac full time and only use Windows for Visual Studio, so try and simplify my live as much as possible.

TortoiseGit doesn't have anything built in to it

@sabgenton Shows you how much I know :)

you probably installed msysgit then pointed tortoise to it
:)

@sabgenton Probably. All I know is it works.
And it's a VM. So I never have to care about setting it up again

7:45 AM
all good syntevo.com/smartgit/index.html is quite good to
(front end)

Q: Why is Cuteflow slow on XAMPP 1.7.1?

gskI have recently installed cuteflow (a PHP based document circulation application) on my machine as I need to customize this software. I have XAMPP 1.7.1 running on a windows xp machine on which this application is deployed. While all my other applications that are running on XAMPP are loading fas...

@Sathya Yep
well, would be nice to have short links to references, etc.
Oh well, what's new @Sathya? How are things?

9:58 AM
things are good, @slhck. Going on as usual. How about you?

@Sathya Pretty fine, but school's just started, so I'm really busy doing homework again – something I'm not used to anymore :P

hahah.
oh well, meeting time, bbl

hf!

:( meetings are never fun

:( bring your phone and a nice game

1 hour later…
11:29 AM
@Sathya It does, I probably edit the source somewhat (add hotkeys, snap a window, ...)

@TomWijsman feel free to do so :)

11:48 AM
Anyone know if it is possible to share a directory to someone if it is in the dropbox public folder? I can't seem to find a link... only for individual files :/

12:01 PM
@WilliamHilsum folder -> share this folder
10
A: How do you get a public link to a file in Dropbox that isn't in a public folder?

SathyaGet the latest build of Dropbox, and you can right click any folder in your Dropbox and get the shareable link Note: @slhck points that the Mac version doesn't support this yet - It does work on Mac. You will need to enable the sharing model feature on your account first (it is not enabled b...

12:43 PM
Anyone around that is good with home routers and telnet or google?

1 hour later…
2:11 PM
@Diago What do you need!? Better at routers/telnet than Google!
@Sathya Thanks, +1'ed, but, I don't have that option on things that are not in the public folder :/
Maybe they have updated it... I read in the FAQ it says that you are not able to share folders :( - even if they are in the public folder now

@WilliamHilsum: needs the newst version and i had to click on a link - specifically dropbox.com/enable_shmodel
seems to be a easter egg sorta thing

I should of read through the answer fully! Ok, clicked and it is enabled! Weird! Is it for good after that or can it reset?

i think its for good after that

Thanks and sorry to Sathya! Should of read fully - all working now... I wonder how many other secrets Drobox has!?

2:28 PM
@WilliamHilsum Trying to get my DLink Home Router to allow me to switch ISP's on the DSL
And can't find a reference document for the commands anywhere
But I think I may have figured it out

2:43 PM
@Diago Huh? Is the router from an ISP and it is locked down?
If it is, you are much better reflashing it as there may be other things that are locked out

@WilliamHilsum South Africa doesn't use ISP locked down routers. This is a basic D-Link 2500
With a very primitive telnet interface that I think I have hacked my way around

2 hours later…
4:36 PM
@Diago Sorry, I am confused why you are having problems switching ISP then? :/ Sorry... had a plumber around and had to go quick.

2 hours later…
6:31 PM
@WilliamHilsum I use 2 ISP's. One gives me unshaped uncapped at a full 4MB from 7pm - 7am, but shapes my line down to 384k during the week. I want to then switch too my second ISP that gives me a shaped capped account during the day so I can use my line at 4MB. The router however doesn't like me switching account on the fly. Still thinking about how to do it correctly.
I hate clippy!

1 hour later…
7:32 PM
How can I kill clippy?
It looks like you're trying to kill clippy.

Would you like help?

Yes, please! No, thanks.
LOL

7:50 PM
@TomWijsman Hey, just really quick, weren't you all against edit floods just recently?

@slhck: See the Gaming Town Hall chat, there is a related question to that which I respond too. But it's generally yes unless it's done in an organized way.
Why?

Anyone know If i can upgrade a Mac directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard? I've heard you have to install Leopard first.

@SimonSheehan I'm afraid so, yep

Not my edit flood, and there wasn't much in the queue. It didn't show age either...

7:53 PM
@slhck yikes... :/
@slhck And it appears they don't sell Leopard anymore :( just SL

@TomWijsman Yeah, I've rejected quite a few before, because only removing "thanks" from closed posts is not really substantial.
@SimonSheehan Really? Ugh :/

@slhck Major inconvenience... I really want to get off Tiger on this iMac i use at school :/

@slhck Ah, I didn't know that. I went to check his activity though to be sure.
Seems it doesn't show suggested edits that have been rejected...

@TomWijsman No, theres another page in the tools for that: superuser.com/tools/suggested-edits?tab=rejected&filter=day
@SimonSheehan There must be some way though …

@slhck and it costs double the price of SL on Amazon amazon.ca/Apple-Mac-Version-10-5-Leopard/dp/B000FK88JK/…

7:56 PM
Yeah, I'll check it next time I see similar edits.

@TomWijsman Sure, no worries, just wanted to let you know :)

@slhck I am now VERY relieved :P

@SimonSheehan Doesn't sound like Apple, but might be worth a shot

@slhck I'd hope so.. I'm sick of trying to get apps to work only to find they need 10.5+ :P
And I'd like to use a more recent version of iTunes than.. 6? :P

Oh dear …
Time to upgrade that thing, yep

7:58 PM
I can't remember the exact version, but it was back when the icon was green :P
@slhck We got brand new 2011 iMac's...but in our audio room were stuck with the old one :P

@SimonSheehan What machines exactly?

@slhck Which ones?

the old ones

2007 iMac. Intel Core 2 Duo one :P
Got a picture of it here.

ah, those are certainly doing the job for audio, if you have enough RAM

8:06 PM
Its 2GB of RAM :P
Doesn't really take a whole lot to record audio really.
So it's perfect. I just want to use some other applications too.

yup, unless you're doing 48 tracks simultaneously
:D

@slhck Our new Macs are absolutely beautiful..
We can't put it in the audio room because a lot of things get broken/stolen in there :P

mhhhh shiny
ah, afk for a bit

Very! That was the day we got it :D Fresh out of the box
cya later @slhck :p

8:21 PM
re

Just to stay on the topic of monitors...

8:40 PM
@TomWijsman lol, his face after he's realized it

8:57 PM
@Diago Easiest way would be to make the change, then restart the router :/ As long as they are both similar (PPPoE), a simple restart should change all settings such as ip (assuming you are on DHCP).
@Nyuszika7H Welcome back... Haven't seen you in ages!?
@SimonSheehan What is that little black box?
@TomWijsman Funny... but... fake!
[Funny picture... linking instead of posting as I forgot it had a swear word! ](i.stack.imgur.com/uUL24.jpg)

1 hour later…
10:14 PM
@WilliamHilsum Yeah, it's been on the chat here before. Re-linking it because I saw it on Facebook...

trying to figure out if this is an answer

A: Microsoft Word 2010 - custom macro buttons without writing code?

dishdesignerElsie said: "Microsoft provides a few alternate button images to choose from, but they're random pictures that have no relationship to what the macros do." She knows that you can assign these built-in icons to buttons, but they're useless if they don't correspond to the button's function. The bu...

@WilliamHilsum portable hard drive :P

@TomWijsman ok!
@SimonSheehan oh... Thought it was some weird gadget... I feel let down! :P

11:56 PM
Sorry @WilliamHilsum! I shall find some spectacular gadget one day for you and take a picture just to let you guess it :p

Also, does anyone know how to make chat always stay at the bottom? Mine keeps forcing me to scroll :/
