So, a company reached out to me via Stack Overflow Jobs for the position linked above.
I will be undergoing a technical interview soon.
I am now formally launching a job search.
My availability is expected to become very limited over the next several weeks.

@bwDraco fintech's cool
you'll likely be doing strange and interesting things

(background on the company)
Aims to combine HFT with traditional statistical arbitrage techniques.

which is always good

little tip, keep it stum until you get the job

quiet

11:44 PM
ah, he does have a point there

> stum
To not talk. To "stay stum".
As far as I can tell it derives from 19th century England/Australia, as read in Bryce Courtenay's 'The Potato Factory'

Anyone here using OpenOffice?

I run LibreOffice Fresh on my laptop.
(x64 Windows version)

I don't think anyone does ;p
(most folks moved to LO)

I use Google Docs on my non-Windows machines.

11:49 PM
i erm... use office starter 2010 on the rare occations when I need a wordprocessor.

I take advantage of the many Microsoft Home Use Programs I have available to me as a contract worker :P

@Journeyman @bwDraco precisely what I was going to talk about next.
I switched about 1-2 weeks ago, after OO refused to open a PPTX file which LO succeeded on.

though its less features and more...
"Oracle is the EA of enterprise software"
2

@Journeyman WHAAAAAAAAAAT?
LO is 3 times better than OO.

@MarkYisri they buy up good franchises and drive them to the ground, keep releasing new sequels and don't really care about the products they release....

11:54 PM
I really don't like Oracle.

they basically messed up work on OOo, so there were at least two major forks (one of which got rolled into LO) , closed off and essentially starved off opensolaris and its forks,.

@bwDraco me neither, especially with Java 8 Update 20.
"No 'Medium' security level anymore."

I try very hard not to have to install java on my home PCs

@MarkYisri The kinda just moved Medium to an exception list, didn't they?

@Michael exception list is useless
