7:00 PM
@KronoS Ask what? I can't see the original question

@Wil can you see a list of "proposed" edits by lower rep users on your 10k mod tools

Wil
:S where am I meant to be looking?

mod tools somewhere?

It makes me so sad that superuser.com/tools doesn't work for me:(

7:02 PM
I wish that /tools was 5k...

Wil

or me @KronoS. :'(

Wil
haven't seen the tools in months... they have added a few!

@studiohack you may get it sooner than me ;)

Wil
... I think I am allowed to show that :S don't see why I wouldn't!...

7:03 PM
@Wil: Have seen it when Programmers.SE was in beta.

@Wil it doesn't look like it...

@Wil: Imported questions is new to me, those are migrated ones, right?

@KronoS: you never know...

@Wil @IvoFlipse already showed them to us

@Wil: Can you check under "all recent edits" in chronological order?

Wil
7:04 PM
I can't see where proposed edits would be... I only usually edit obvious spelling mistakes or when idiots write M$ or Micro$oft etc.. I will try to take a look... (couldn't see on review page either)

I hate that when they use the M$ sign, so offensive. @Wil

Yeah, same here.
First time I saw that, I was like
Google: "M$" or "Micro$oft" site:superuser
:D
But that doesn't work, the new search engine they implemented (see blog) should work though, gonna try it.

hello...

hey @David

Wil
@studiohack to be honest, I used to do it - but not for offence, because MS are a large rich company... and tbh, I wish I was like that... and I know a few others do it for the same reason, but the large majority just do it to be offensive, for no other reason.

7:06 PM
hey @David

Wil
here is an edit - first one I could find...

People hate microsoft as a scapegoat for earning money...

Wil
I can't see anywhere for proposed :S

Names and words are sometimes intentionally and satirically misspelled for a rhetorical purpose. This is often done by replacing a letter with another letter (for example, k replacing c), or symbol (for example, $ replacing s, @ replacing a, or ยข replacing c). This is found particularly in informal writing on the Internet, but can also be found in some serious political writing that opposes the status quo. "K" replacing "C" Replacing the letter "c" with "k" in the first letter of a word came into use by the Ku Klux Klan during its early years in the mid-to-late 19th century. The con...
scroll down to Currency signs replacing similar letters - talks about the reason behind M$

@Wil no that's not what we're looking for...

Wil
7:08 PM
@studiohack I just love the fact that when I talk to some of my Apple loving friends and say a few of the things that they used to say about MS... (device monopoly etc.), they just come up with excuses that really don't stand up...
@KronoS sorry, so tired! (long week!), if you give me a link or tell me where to look, il happily do it and take a screenshot

@Wil: We're looking for this:
1 hour ago, by studiohack
user image

hahah, they just shut their ears a lot, the fanboys

But then a list for it.
I understand that @IvoFlipse can see a list, but non-moderators can not.

@Wil I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for ;) just wondering... It's not cuz you're tired (because of your spy duties) it's becuase it's a brand new thing

Criticism of Microsoft has followed various aspects of its products and business practices. Issues with ease of use, stability, and security of the company's software are common targets for critics. In the 2000s, a number of malware attacks have targeted security flaws in Microsoft Windows and other programs. Microsoft is also accused of locking vendors and consumers into their products, and of not following and complying with existing standards in its software. Total cost of ownership comparisons of Linux as well as Mac OS X to Windows are a continuous point of debate. The company has bee...

Wil
7:10 PM
thats a popup....not seen anywhere - I guess I will only see IF someone makes an edit, can't see anywhere that will show me all questions that have one

@Wil: On the site it would give edit (1) or something

what is the world coming to, when there is an entire encyclopedia article about criticisms of Microsoft?

Wil
@studiohack interesting... thanks, haven't see that one

But well, the list of it is only for moderators.

stop complaining, I've only seen one edit today and keep refreshing it
and it's a new feature, so just be patient

7:11 PM
how many higher rep users have to approve? 2 or 1?

@Wil that isn't a popup... it's what happens if you click on the <kbd>edit(1)</kbd> on a question that has been proposed

Wil
you are (nearly) all nominated, can't you just wait a few days :P

@studiohack 2 I believe

@IvoFlipse: Not complaining, just wondering to whom is it available. But yeah, patience (or bothering Meta.SO) will make it more available in the future. :-)

did you approve that edit earlier that @Iszi did?

7:12 PM
@Wil lol... only three of us can make it... and TBH I'm not sure I'm going to be...

because I did
@Wil: yah, we're all nervous!
quaking

@TomWij if you weren't complaining, then the comment wasn't directed at you ;)

@studiohack no I didn't... I don't think...

we need a low rep user to test another post for us. volunteers?

@studiohack Find something for me to work on?

7:14 PM
okay -
give me a sec
@Iszi - correct the language, the hello everyone's etc on this post:

Q: OS X - missing dev/null, can't re-create! Help!

JamisonHello everyone - Noticed on my home machine (OS X 10.6.6) that somehow the Dev/Null folder got corrupted. It seemed to exist when browsing in Finder or Terminal, but wouldn't accept any output written to it, and I couldn't CHMOD it, etc. Seemed to be dead or corrupted! So I deleted the sucker, a...

Q: Help me with my WLAN security!

FrankHello there, I am desperate. This is my security problem. So, I'm connecting to the internet through a WLAN network, shared by another person, we both are admins over the network and know the password, but he is a computer guru and is into hacking, and I'm a computer illiterate. The thing is, ...

when you're done, post back, and everyone can see what an edit looks like

dang beat me to it....
well @Iszi there's two for ya

then I'll try to post an edit of my own
will take screenshots -
and everyone hold back, so we can just approve one edit with one vote and see if that works

will only open the window to see how the buttons at the left side work
but not vote

7:17 PM
chomping at the bit.....

okay @TomWij
patience is a virtue that can't be rushed @KronoS ;P haha
this poor guy is going to get a rush of views LOL

@studiohack Done with the first.

hmmm not showing up.

Or not?

lol @studiohack he's going to wonder why everyone was so interested in his question

7:19 PM
Apparently low-rep editors require an Edit Summary?

@Iszi: I don't see it. Is it me or is it everyone? Stress! Waaah...
(Exams... sigh :D)

I'm sure they do? fill it out and submit

@TomWij I don't see it either

this is a weird conversation! :P

Done. Again.

7:19 PM
@KronoS: Yeah, it's cached.

LIVE!

Yay!!!!

Yay! :D

@studiohack did you approve yet?

I can't perform my own edit
at least until after I approve - which I haven't done yet

7:20 PM
There you go I did one that was pretty ugly

gonna post screenshots before I approve, anyone else want anything in particular?

what happens if you reject?

Omg...
Bugged. :D

we'll test that on the 2nd question @KronoS

superuser.com/edit-suggestions/1 <-- check URL with 2, 3, 4, 5, ... :D
2

7:21 PM

We've got ourselves a list! :D

star that photo *^
where did that come from?!

@TomWig Oh my Gosh!!!!

@KronoS: Yeah... :D

Don't let jeff know

7:23 PM
okay - gonna approve edit
anyone here?

@studiohack ya... but read what @TomWij found

Still, a list would be more useful as else we'll have to track the id...

@TomWij does it reset?

I did. not sure how that works though?

Or we create a channel for it.

7:25 PM
@TomWij do it!

I don't think so, it just starts at 0/1 and keeps incrementing.

:(

edit approved on first answer @Iszi, but I can still edit it after I approve or reject the edit.

@DMA57361 you here?
@studiohack that seems lame

@KronoS yeah

7:26 PM
anyone edit the 2nd question?

you know how you wrote that script for the mod elections? wanna write another one for us? @DMA57361

@KronoS script as in the score table?

we're gonna try a reject! @Iszi, so just add some extra characters...except this may look bad behind the scene if you get one of your edits rejected.

@DMA57361 yes...

@KronoS I can try, was looking for something to do :)
what're you after?

7:27 PM
@studiohack we'll just make sure to upvote @Iszi for compensation

@KronoS Done

@DMA57361 write a script that will sequentially list the propsed edits posts....

ah, I see
nice idea

superuser.com/edit-suggestions/{id}
I just don't have the Java know how... yet

I'd have to do it by direct page scraping thou, I doubt they're in the API yet
@KronoS do you mean JavaScript? It's very different from Java.

7:30 PM
@studiohack I can edit @Iszi edit you approved

okay, I rejected @Iszi's edit, and the window disapeared but the edit (1) was still there. I clicked it again and this pops up:

@DMA57361 um... yes... i really didn't know that there was a dif

 Super User: Suggestion Watch

Reviewing edit suggestions on Super User...

@KronoS: what do you mean?

7:31 PM
I can edit that one as well... but there is no edit(1) there

yes, I can edit after the edit is approved or rejected. @KronoS

ok got it....

Well, there is caching involved I guess, and if you reject it the cache of the question isn't reset.

yeah, a refreshed removed the edit (1)

@TomWij does the site /edit-proposals/{id} disappear after an edit has been accepted or rejected?

7:34 PM
@KronoS: No, it stays there, 1 to 7 is still there.

For the record: If there's any rep gain from edit approvals, I'm not seeing it in the "Recent Activity" screen. I think my numbers did go up though.

You can't see if the edit has been accepted/rejected, and you can see the current version by clicking on the question title.

you had 518 earlier?

@Iszi I think that isn't implemented yet

This edit thing is pretty cool.

7:44 PM
@Kyle: did you do any that need to be approved?

I think they did get approved
I did two, one was REALLY bad.

@studiohack all of them have been approved that I know of....
hi @digitxp

JohnI am using 105% (101 DPI) custom DPI settings for easier reading but unfortunately those settings are not fully applied across whole system. Q: New iPhone Contacts 'Sometimes' Won't Sync Back to Exchange

marcusstarnesI don't know if anyone else has experienced this so just thought I'd find out if it's a known issue or if it's just happening to me. since I first got my 3GS, I've had it synced with Micorsoft Exchange (initially 2003, now 2008). If I go into my contacts on the phone and add a new contact it imm...

@studiohack Yeah, it's gone up but I don't see that in the screen that tells you what things are affecting your rep.
@studiohack I still don't like the fact that low-rep users are essentially able to DoS the edit privileges of 2k-rep users.

7:48 PM
DoS?
what does that mean @Iszi?

@studiohack Denial-of-Service

denial of service? meaning deny edit privileges of 2K rep users?

@Iszi they don't.. they just give the lower rep priority first... so that a higher rep "thinks" before he blocks that rep from getting to the lower rep user

@studiohack Yeah.
@KronoS From what I've been reading it seems they do. A 2k rep user can't edit a question that has pending low-rep edits.

which I dislike - strongly.

7:50 PM
And, they can't independently push the low-rep edits through either.

@Iszi and @studiohack I know, but if the 2k rep rejects the edit he can then make his own edit... or realize that the edit is sufficient and accept the edit
@Iszi I though @studiohack just proved that they can....

@KronoS It takes two votes to push it through. If you're the first 2k user to a question, you can't edit it until someone else comes along - and you've gotta hope they agree with your vote, too

I'm not sure that two are required...

@Iszi I think it only takes one....
as of right now at least

@KronoS Stuff I was reading earlier was saying two.

7:53 PM
right but at the moment it's only one... maybe a change?

Gimme something else to edit?

These chat rooms need a WTF is going on in here? box.

or just not fully implemented
@digitxp LMAO

okay @Iszi

It exploded when we started testing out the new low rep edit approvals @digitxp

7:54 PM
take out the "thanks SU community" line

Q: Google SketchUp network licensing issue

Larry G. WapnitskyWe have 10 licenses for Google SketchUp in my local office. We store the license file on a network drive that is accessible to all users. We've been finding that, at most, only 3 or 4 people can run it at one time before the license shows up as "expired" on another user's system. I've verified...

then @KronoS and ONLY @KronoS will approve the edit

@KronoS No, they really need a WTF box. Ever step into The Comms Room?

just let me know @Iszi when your done
lol, Nope @Iszi

@studiohack Do people really still use SketchUp? Wow.

@KronoS I think I quite aptly described the experience yesterday - even got my post starred for it. I'll see if I can find it.

looking forward....

7:56 PM
yeah people do...i've played with it, but AutoCAD or that other tool is better. can't think of the name

@studiohack I'll yoink the "SU community" since it's a bit redundant - but I'm not against people including "Thanks" in their posts.

that's your opinion - feel free to do so...

Done.

@Iszi I wasn't at first either, but SU is meant to be a place where questions are for the general public... thanks isn't really needed

okay

7:58 PM
okay edit approved...

one user

@digitxp When I used it it was good, has it become worse somehow?

AH! Solid Works was the alternative to Sketchup I was thinking of, @digitxp

@studiohack Solidworks is amazing... school has a free license for that too...

@KronoS Here's what I had to say about The Comms Room yesterday...
in The Comms Room, yesterday, by Iszi
Yeah, I love coming in here for the first time every day or after an extended break. There's always at least three conversations crossing over each other and no way to tell what the heck is going on until you've watched for about five minutes.
2

7:59 PM
I did that in CAD class... @KronoS - also some AutoCAD

@Iszi lol... that's pretty good... here take another star
@studiohack same here

@KronoS Thanks

I know AutoCAD too, but Sketchup looks nice if you just need to do something simple, but I might be wrong, haven't used both for quite some time...

Sketchup was buggy and nowhere near AutoCAD or SolidWorks, so I disliked it

I stopped using it in 3rd grade when I got a real model choo choo and didn't need a CGI model :P

8:12 PM
@digitxp lol...
@studiohack for the final project in that class a classmate made the tron bike... the new one...

@KronoS wow interesting
@digitxp yeah

It was pretty cool looking
I just made a 6 cyl engine

@KronoS There was that weird Tron-esque game that shows up in all the lists of decent OSS games...

@digitxp o_0 huh?

8:22 PM
That looks cool...

Wil
8:41 PM
talking on phone about cancelling my TV contract as I don't watch it any more (no time, and I am not renewing the TV licence as I only watch on demand streams which you don't need it for!), and they are trying to keep me on it by offering bundled broadband... they said how much do you pay and I said £35... they said theirs is only £7.50 for the most expensive, and then I had to tell him to basically "shut up" ... politely... when he failed to understand that I pay the extra for fast
upload speed which they don't provide... he kept saying "ours is faster"... ARGH, non techies shouldn't be selling broadband!... or at least try to answer questions...

@wil agreed...

Wil
mind you, it is faster download for a lot cheaper, wouldn't mind a second line if I wasn't going to cancel the TV
... but, annoyingly, the moment I cancel, they remove access to all my stored recordings... I need to get a tv capture card or work out a way of recording it all (a lot of stuff is cool things I want to keep)
Anyone got recommendations for TV cards?... Last looked at it when I wanted a HTPC a few years ago, then I saw so many options and just gave up and didn't get anything as I had so much work to do (still do) and not enough time to watch!

9:02 PM
@Wil Ah, but the real techies all went and got real techie jobs.
2

Wil
@Iszi lol... but he was just a moron... he asked what speed I get, I said around 11meg down, 2 up... (ADSL2+ and I pay extra for annex M), he said their service is 20 meg... I then said, my service is actually 24 meg but that is what I get so I will be on about the same with yours - but you don't provide the upload... he just failed to understand that there is a difference and kept saying that theirs is faster...
I got him to look up the upload speed, and he said to me "512 meg upload speed"... I then said does it say Mb or Kb... argh... it lasted about 10 minutes and I should of hung up, but I was actually enjoying it! I wish I recorded it...

9:18 PM
shoot, sorry. Mixed up SendGenie with Crate. never mind

Lol I was wondering about that @studiohack

lol

Wil
...now I wish I was a mod so I could see what that deleted message was!

it was a question asking people to vote to close a question @Wil
but I had mistaken/mixed up two names of similar services but one was a webapp and the other a desktop app...

Wil
oh, thats all :( thought I missed something funny!
ok!

9:26 PM
its all good - thanks for your attention! :P

@Wil Reminds me of one time I had to call Linksys customer support to report a bug in their firmware. Had to practically pull out my CISSP to get them to listen straight.

I just realized that on my edit notes I misspelled a bunch of words of REALLY stupid words. I feel dumb now.
Is there any way to change that?

9:42 PM
@Kyle What? Twice now?

wtf I am having a bad day, I need to slow down.
I tried to edit my first one and that is what happened.

@Kyle Ah, I see you work for the department of redundancy department, eh?

lol
Just having "issues" today, that's all.

Wil
10:24 PM
@Iszi ouch... what's that keyword...
shibboleet!!!

what?!
never heard of that word @Wil

Wil

haha that's funny. for real?
I wish lol

Wil
lol, I wish I actually remembered when I had the call... would of been funny just to try it!...
The next IVR I set up, I am so going to put that in, even if it is only a joke / responds with something funny...

is it bad that I'm so addicted to this game that I'm actually excited for this to come out?

Wil
10:49 PM
lol

11:14 PM
Anyone know anything about the Lenovo u460?

no, sorry @digitxp
I'm off to install my very first NIC card into my server...any tips?

@studiohack Don't wear gloves.

static? @digitxp

@studiohack Static, dexterity, etc.

@Wil Next time I get a support tech on the line for anything, the first thing I'm saying to them is "shibboleet"! Love XKCD!

11:24 PM
@Iszi Have a feeling that's going to piss off any quality assurance workers on the other end.

Wil
@studiohack can't think of anything funny to say, so no!

@digitxp No, what should piss off any QA workers on the other end is when the "tech" says "I'm sorry, but I don't even have a flowchart for that!"
(Call to AOL tech support - I'd rather not talk about it any more.)

@Iszi Pretty sure that pisses off everybody.
Did you see Porn Tech Support on Collegehumor?

@digitxp Haven't seen that one yet.

@studiohack don't break it ;)

11:31 PM
@KronoS: having trouble putting it in :P I have very little experience in hardware... :( and it is an Intel Pro...

@studiohack most cards aren't really difficult to install...

I can't get it in that straight and am taking it easy so as not to break it.

@studiohack Aiy... I come back from "Porn Tech Support" to see "having trouble putting it in"...
In more pleasant news, since @digitxp shared a funny I feel obliged to do the same. Anyone in here not seen The One Ronnie skit "My Blackberry is Not Working"?

@Iszi: raises hand

Ditto

11:35 PM
Enjoy

lol

well I have it installed. but the metal part in front is just a 1/2 inch too long so we'll see how it works.

I want an egg's box 360
@studiohack that concerns me... pic?

hmmm okay, give me some time to work on it
@KronoS

11:51 PM
Computer recommendations?

@Kronos, it is the third one from the left over, see the screw and etc

dude I don't think that goes there... can you take a pic of the card it self?
@digitxp ?

sure @KronoS-now I feel foolish lol

@studiohack hey that's what life is for... to live and learn... to feel foolish at time and then bask in someone else's foolishness

@KronoS Mom's/my computer (we share it) is on the fritz, she needs a new one for her graduate stuff

11:55 PM

Requirements: can run CS5 reasonably fast, light, good keyboard, matte screen

Wil
@digitxp brilliant

What's the budget? @digitxp

@KronoS $1k

@KronoS see above -I have a photo of the other side if you want

11:57 PM
@studiohack I'm still thinkin that it wasn't put in right...

should I try to boot, @KronoS?

Oh I can see what it is... I think... the top lip of the card was underneath the casing...

or?

It should be flush...
@studiohack NO!

u460 looks close

11:58 PM
it isn't flush,and it absolutely won't go down any more?

oh yeah, one more thing: No Dell, HP, Toshiba, Sony

@digitxp that's pretty much everybody

@studiohack That's why I'm looking at Lenovo, heard they have pretty good support. ASUS is also a contender

should be flush like the other @studiohack
