@ArtOfCode No dice on signing up to the channel with a gmail address. Can I get spacemonaut@charcoal-se.org?

ok
ruby is starting to corrupt me
why have you done this to me Art
I just found myself typing json.parse instead of json.loads and doing if parsed['items'] instead of if 'items' in parsed
gahhhh

I updated the wiki page on the assumption that gmail etc are now disabled

[ charcoal-se.github.io ] continuous-integration/travis-ci/push success on 95ca981: The Travis CI build passed

ok honest question here
are there Triage review bots that just always say "requires editing"
because you can have the best formatted question there is and there'll always be one person who reviews with "Requires Editing"
it's kinda weird

people should learn to love the Skip button but the way it is now, doing what you describe is probably a good heuristic for reaching a particular badge which some people covet

peoples' thoughts vary on what needs editing and why and what's worth pushing the button for; also, confirmation bias & not seeing the 999 reviews where nobody pushed the button

there should be a badge for pressing the Skip button 10,000 times -- voila, problem solved

@doppelgreener I'm talking about when an item is fully categorized and it shows you the consensus

12:39 AM
Triage, particularly "requires editing", and H&I have been broken from the beginning. SE has, effectively, refused to put out even a modicum of effort to reduce the breakage.

I think the trouble is "requires editing" is super weak
like does it mean formatting
or are there missing details
I generally put questions that are missing details as unsalvageable (it is a close reason...) but I seem to be in a minority for that

And who does it require editing from? The OP or some random user on SO?

a mean audit would ask you to actually edit but that would lose even more of the people who hesitantly volunteer to look at stuff

The first problem with "requires editing" is that the text describing it says that it includes the need for the author to edit, not just the community.

@Makyen yeah that's what I mean
if it requires editing from the OP that's different
it should be put on hold (there's a reason why it's initially that, before going to closed)

12:42 AM
it could say "well show us what you would change if you were the OP" but just log and not actually execute those edits
in the very small fraction of cases where somebody actually completed that you could get some useful signal to pass to the OP
but again, I imagine it will simply cause the review rate to plummet

@quartata Needing the author to edit is "unsalvageable", which is really close/flag. While changing the text to clearly say the difference won't fix all the problems, it would certainly help.

and of course the opportunity to put stuff which doesn't belong there is pretty much an invitation to abuse it
"hello, I see you like xxCENSOREDxx" -- Wingd?ng

@quartata There's a 2 year old FR to change the description of "Requires Editing", but SE hasn't bothered to spend the small amount of time to make such a minor change to text. [Every time I'm reminded about it, it just reinforces that SE really doesn't care about the state of their product, or their user's time.]

I disagree on both counts
that is, it's not minor -- it's a fundamental difference in what it means
they're not just going to copy and paste the proposed text

12:51 AM
naa- by tripleee

and as a result I think the fact that they didn't just go for the easy route is more indicative of them caring about the logistics than not

@quartata By "minor", I mean that it takes a minor amount of dev-time to change the text. It's not implementing a new feature. It's only changing text. I agree that it's not a minor issue, just that it takes a small amount of effort to fix it.

@ArtOfCode you know how SE OAuth works right?
/oauth/access_token takes it form encoded right

@quartata The current text doesn't reflect what they want done in the queue. If people do what the current text directs them to do, then users will fail audits and the review queues will be broken (questions will bounce infinitely between triage and H&I). Sure, there's a whole bunch of stuff which they could do in that area which would improve things, but choosing (for 2 years) not to make an easy change which would improve the situation reflects negatively upon them.

@angussidney i'm already 30% dead, 20% alive, and 50% scar tissue from failed development things. There's not much left to kill in me :P
though the interesting part is this is going to be in an LXD container, so if I end up with a working instance, yay for a snapshot/image that's shareable.

Not automatically, no @quartata

Actually disregard. In my testing, it's been localhost with a non-80 port. So it may allow plain old 'localhost'

Well I probably will be on 8000 since I have Apache on 80 obviously

Basically, flake8 (our linter) is testing itself (and ironically, throwing a million errors)
venv/bin/python3 -m flake8 ./ is testing things in ./venv/lib/python3.6/site-packages/
If the ./ picks up all files in the directory, why hasn't it failed on our old config before?
But if ./ is scoped to venv/bin/, why is it picking up stuff in ./venv/lib/ ?

Here's why it may have been delayed:
SD watches the feed at stackexchange.com/questions?tab=realtime for new questions
Because we don't have enough API quota to check every single post individually, we wait until a few posts have come in from one site (usually 2) before fetching them from the API

ah. interestingly, we had two spam posts more or less back to back - that was the second one
the first had a link to evermaxmaleenhancements.co.uk/garcinia-cambogia-xtra-plus and was posted at 04:25:43Z

@SmokeDetector this one was detected very soon after you reported one of them

Or whatever it names it
Maybe do an ls if you can ssh in

@quartata the thing that I'm wondering is why haven't we run into this error before?

because we never use virtualenv
I'm sure that it plops all the modules in the same directory and they get scanned

@quartata I was under the impression that Circle 1.0 added a virtualenv by default
> Using cached venv

If it does it probably kept the envs in the home directory
do an ls -a to see what's in the project folder

Aah, that would make sense

5:13 AM
I'm sure there's something

Another question.... why aren't ./test/ and ./classes/ also being scanned by the main flake check? If so, they'd also throw errors (which is why our tox settings for them are less strict IIRC)

They're excluded in the normal tox.ini

@angussidney they have separate config

If we can find what the name of the venv is then we just add them to that

@quartata aah that makes sense
@quartata easy

5:18 AM
@quartata Isn't it /home/travis/virtualenv?

@iBug he means when you run flake8 on the whole directory

@iBug this isn't Travis

@angussidney all right then just open up the tox.ini and add in env/* I guess

@SurajRao For ease of signing up members, Charcoal set the domains needed for signing up to include a few/several common free email providers (e.g. gmail.com). This seemed like a good idea at the time. In reporting bugs, a few URLs to charcoal team pages were posted on meta. This made it easy for people to sign up. The significant SE UI change when belonging to a Team and no clear way to remove yourself from the team (without it looking like you destroy your SE account) causes issues.

@K.Dᴀᴠɪs My experience, a couple/few years ago, using an older graphics card and Firefox was that hardware acceleration (HA) support for (some) older cards had been dropped. Basically, all rendering was done on the CPU. Older versions of Firefox did support HA for the card I had (I'd have to look up which ATI card I had). I would have expected that Chrome would drop HA prior to Firefox. You may way to try Firefox to see if it will enable HA. However, your issue with drivers may supersede that.

@angussidney yeah, it's all sorted. I can deactivate accounts
@micsthepick need an email address for you so that I can set up a forward on charcoal-se.org
@Undo should also have access to those controls

I could never really figure that out myself. Maybe I am just use to Chrome's layout. It's more of a UI thing than anything else.

I don't use Chrome because it makes text look too bright and weird.

(at least on my high-DPI screen)
I generally only use Edge because it's the only browser with proper touchscreen support, and I use my computer's touchscreen quite frequently

@K.Dᴀᴠɪs Firefox has progressively gotten more Chrome-like over the last multiple versions. If you haven't tried it moderately recently, it might be a reasonable alternative for you at this point. Everyone has their own preferences. Mine is against the UI that Chrome uses, particularly the significant lack of customization. However, now that Firefox has lost most of it's ability to be customized, there isn't nearly the strong difference there once was.

Yeah I might consider it
