:)

@ThomasWard You count FIRE as automated?
Another question. If you flag a spam is it immediately helpful?

mods can't get helpful flags

Yeah I suppose so

2:20 PM
because they're not really "flags", they're just binding actions

@iBug i count ERROR: Processing of request halted due to protection safeguards as a result of lack of coffee, please try again later.
@HyperNeutrino there's a few cases where flags are helpfulized. But not really as many as one thinks there are.
and they're all internal secrets

Oh really? Huh okay.
I won't ask about them then :P

also the spam flag I just filed, the system told me it was "Helpful"

This user is temporarily suspended for too many helpful flags. The suspendion period ends in Jan 1, '70

automatically, so I guess maybe it counts as helpful but is useless because of the diamond?
the Shog would know though @HyperNeutrino
The Great and Powerful Shog knows all.

but yeah there's this one badge (marshal) which is "get 5000 helpful flags", and I was told in TNB that it's impossible to get that once you're a mod

@ThomasWard which Shog? ShogOne or ShogTwo or ... or ShogEight?

@HyperNeutrino i believe it is. But I got my marshal back when flag weight was a regular thing :P

@Undo Yeah. All hand written :D

Wow. That's awesome

@Undo is there a "permanently ignore post" option anywhere
i forget if there is one

The "Helpful" state is just a result of a post getting deleted after a spam flag.

JAD
@ThomasWard isn't it "ignore"?

2:25 PM
If you cast the last spam flag, the flag is automagically "helpful"

The downside is, I can only write 80~100 characters every minute in that font.

And flags cast by mods are the last flag, so logically, always "helpful" :D

JAD
@Cerbrus by definition I'd say

@JAD Yes, but not necessarily "by design"

JAD
well, why would a mod ever cast an unhelpful flag?

2:26 PM
6 messages moved to Trashcan

@JAD It's just a side effect of the fact that mod flags are binding. The fact that a mod cast the flag doesn't trigger the "helpful" state

:43026688 any command can be superceded with a hyphen, so Smokey won't give a feedback for your command.

@Undo that's what I thought. You actually have to look to see it isn't typed - there are plenty of minor differences between instances of the same letter, so it's definitely handwritten.

pretty much. This is why I bring my own laptop to work regularly, because IExplore is chaotic evil
whereas my own laptop is LINUX and Firefox so :P

I still use Windows (and WSL + VMware so everything is covered)
I threw away all those MSYS and Cygwin after updating to Anniversary Update.

yeah we're on Win7 so no WSL here at the workplace. Yay for my own laptop xD
but i digress

im only 18 and is a freshman in a university in China, so using a Linux distro as my primary system is somewhat impractical (in the environment)

@iBug didn't know China was your country of origin. In my case, I've been using Linux since 2009 so...
it's one of those things that I just prefer becasue I don't have to pay Microsoft for stuff that is insecure, and I don't have to buy overpriced Mac hardware.
so... :P

2:42 PM
no Mac hardware aren't overpriced. You're buying FAITH, not hardware. Faith can never be overpriced
sounds like "China" implies software piracy, which I can't deny...

@iBug the equipment in Mac hardware is overpriced for the quality because of the brand name. And only because of the brand name.
That said

@ThomasWard (whispers) and resale value

I can build a superior hardware system for the same price, and have it last 6 years :P

@Undo The (scheduled) performance degradation is quite a big news recently.
some tests show that even iPhone X gets degraded when battery falls under 10% (or 15%).
@ThomasWard I'm planning to run my laptop (4710HQ, 860M, 16G) for 7 years (or more, since I no longer play those 3A games so frequently)

@Cerbrus by multiple people. Thanks for approving my suggested edit. (Gold badge privs, perhaps?)

@iBug well... Yeah, that's how electricity works. Either you can have a slightly slower phone, or one that reboots when you push it too hard.

2:52 PM
@ThomasWard No priv
The only special priv granted by gold badges is dupehammer.

@iBug their "edit" ack'd my edit as approved, so maybe I'm just still half-asleep and forgetting how the system works :p

@Undo I've never heard about Android phones rebooting due to battery overloading.

Merged SmokeDetector #1647.

Though my laptop did reboot when I tried to lower the core voltage by too much (-80mV)
Huh? MS started deleting branches after merging.

Ever had an Android phone? The two I've had certainly did. One in the middle of freaking Nevada. Quite inconvenient.

@Undo Had four but none did.

CI on 28eb69a succeeded. Message contains 'autopull', pulling...

(simplest explanation I can muster: Low batteries can't provide enough voltage to run the processor at maximum. Imagine a house with four showers during a drought - the water company lowers your pressure, and your family finds that running all four at once doesn't really work out well for anyone. So you schedule that only two of you will take a shower at any one time)

I certainly know that :)

Same thing with processor scheduling - instead of doing a hundred things in one microsecond, then nothing for a few microseconds, then another hundred things, you smooth out the peaks. It looks horrible... In benchmarks.
Some people may be able to tell the difference, which is valid, but a majority doesn't.

"horrible in benchmarks"?
