@gparyani Use the share link on the answer for manually reporting answers

@gparyani "reported answer but question got reported" - known bug. "don't report NAAs" - yeah, that. More to the point... if you get asked to not report a thing, don't just ignore that and report it anyway, whether it's about a bug or not

@ArtOfCode I forgot to mark it as fp- afterward. I just wanted to test the bug.

> don't just ignore that and report it anyway, whether it's about a bug or not
> whether it's about a bug or not

@ArtOfCode Okay, I'll remember next time. Perhaps there should also be a "sandbox" version of Smokey that allows one to test it out without causing other ramifications

like I know the feeling of wanting to test things for yourself, that's... kinda natural to developers

12:51 AM
just report your own post
that's what I do

Anonymous
@ArtOfCode Step 1 of debugging is to reproduce the bug yourself, after all :)

but if it's a known bug and you've been asked to not report, maybe think twice several times?

@gparyani there is

@quartata Where? I've never heard of it.
@ArtOfCode How was I supposed to know it was a known bug at the time I did my test? I didn't find any open issues on GitHub referencing this.

it's called git clone github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector && cd SmokeDetector && pip3 install -r requirements.txt && echo "stackexchange.com: 30332: commands: true" > rooms_custom.yml && python3 ws.py first_start

12:55 AM
@quartata That's your own instance. I was talking of a public testing instance of Smokey

@quartata I'm not sure I'd describe that as "there is" a sandbox version; rather, "you can make one."

@NobodyNada was trying to highlight the triviality of it

Anonymous
@quartata -1 no virtualenv venv && source ./venv/bin/activate

@quartata It's not really trivial unless you've done it a dozen times

@Mego we have high quality dependencies for the whole system to enjoy

12:56 AM
Also not trivial if you're using Windows

Granted, it's a lot easier than it was before, but I'd expect it to take a little while to figure that out the first time

@gparyani you can download from github instead if that's the trouble
rather than cloning

Anonymous
@quartata I was going to object to that but then I actually looked at requirements.txt. Those are quite nice. Also you should specify minimum versions of each, even if it's as simple as just saying >={current_version}

@quartata IIRC Smokey barely works on Windows

@NobodyNada that's only gitmanager
Everything else works fine

J F
12:58 AM
@gparyani solution: get a not-Windows :)

Anyway...I don't really think this is a productive discussion, at this point.

J F
ugh, mobile

@NobodyNada Yup.

@Mego the only thing I like about npm is that it does that automatically

@gparyani You weren't, but if you'd heeded the advice of people asking you to not report, you wouldn't have hit the bug in the first place.

12:59 AM
And I use like very generously
Since everything else was dredged from the lower of the two Christian afterlifes
sorry JF it's just like an opinion

@ArtOfCode Actually, I would have. I thought it was an obvious trolling attempt and thus R/A, and I would have come here only to realize the question got reported.

J F
@quartata npx node@8.9.4 :)

I wasn't given any advice until after I had already filed the first report.

guys...I think we're being a little harsh here. Sure, we all got confused, but no harm was done and gparyani had good intentions. Maybe I'm misinterpreting the nuances of the discussion since text chat is hard sometimes...but it feels like this is turning into an argument.

@JF huh, that's interesting

Anonymous
1:02 AM
@quartata mv requirements.txt requirements_old.txt && pip3 freeze -r requirements_old.txt > requirements.txt && sed -i s/==/>=/g requirements.txt

@Mego oh I forgot about pip freeze

(I'm not saying it's bad advice, or deflecting criticism. I'm just saying, "it's not the case that I wouldn't have hit the bug had I followed advice", because I hit the bug before getting any advice").
(cc @NobodyNada)

That'll do, except you'd have to put the flake and websocket client constraints back in

@gparyani Ah, gotcha. Still, point is - if you get asked to not do a thing, then don't do the thing (at least until a discussion has been had and resolved about it)

Do a PR

@ArtOfCode Okay, I'll remember next time. Perhaps there should also be a "sandbox" version of Smokey that allows one to test it out without causing other ramifications
@ArtOfCode Given that it's already a known bug, should I file a new issue on GitHub? Or did I simply not find the issue in my search or looking over the 33 open issues?

@gparyani Standard practice for testing reports is to report your own post, so it's clear your testing. If this happened over again, I would recommend making it clear you're going to do a test, so you don't confuse everyone.
@gparyani Here's the issue: #1428

@SmokeDetector fp-

I think the problem here could be that the URL follows an unusual format: https://coffee.stackexchange.com/questions/3990/coffee-consuming-amount/4067#40‌67
Seems SE doesn't care what you put after the question title in the URL: coffee.stackexchange.com/questions/3990/coffee-consuming-amount/…

Anonymous
1:14 AM
@NobodyNada It doesn't care what you put after the ID, actually

@Mego Indeed; although it breaks if you put something with two slashes

Hmm...never mind, that's the usual format, and it appears to be what we currently search for.
...Does Smokey parse the rendered HTML of the message? (cc @quartata)
It looks like invisible characters struck again: chat.meta.stackexchange.com/message/6712327
This time they were after the fragment, and the regex update didn't catch that

1:23 AM
@NobodyNada it does indeed
Which is a change in the refactor

@NobodyNada Those weren't in the original message, though

CI on e88e734 succeeded.

The reason why is because getting the markdown is very slow
I do do it for some of the old regexes that need it

@gparyani SE chat inserts them automatically, so that the lines break properly
@quartata Might I ask why that matters?

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started at rev e88e734 (Ryan R: Requirements improvement (#1638)) (running on teward/Solar Flare)

Does it do anything worse than adding a second or two of latency to Smokey's replies?

@NobodyNada it cuts response times to commands down by full seconds
And almost nothing needed it

I fetch it for the parsing stuff that does need it

Restart: API quota is 14169.

@iBug I know. Still, 10 seconds from report is impressive.

@quartata something: a nebulous concept, really. Fills in for whatever you need it to, while lacking enough specificity to provoke curiosity on the part of the asked.

Because there already are flags from "local" users

(I take it that wasn't what you were after?)

@TetsuyaYamamoto The MSE one?
I saw it pop up on MSE and flagged it ... it got to -6, so not a CM flag.

@Catija Sounds automatic deletion from Community diamond had been made after reached -7, instead a mod flag.

4:11 AM
@ArtOfCode ha, no.
so originally aside from GET/POST for inferno I had originally spitballed a WS for bots to subscribe to and send the scan results down
and while it wouldn't be too hard I'm not sure I want to do it
listening to a websocket is inherently anti-serverless, and if we want to encourage people to run their bots serverless should we offer this

10SR on inferno?

bots subscribe to it. inferno calls them with batches of API responses, gets back booleans or scores for each. reports to chat or web view. also handles commands.

cool
hm
yes we do want to offer both
because here's old-fashioned crotchety old me who likes running bots on real servers where I know what they're doing
and if I'm running on a server, then I'm gonna want a websocket

but freeeeee
ok fine
heh

encourage serverless bots by all means, but support both

no, my account was signed in for a few weeks without problems before the edits

4:43 AM
So deleting one account, then copying the token from A to B and deleting A?
@HyperNeutrino profile edits don't matter to MS

288, 335, and 363 are all one person

If they do, it's an SE bug
egads

In theory, you can copy the access token from 363 to 288, ditto the SE account ID, and then nuke 335 and 363

@Undo yeah that was just to see if any weird account action happened before the edit because my SE net profile shows two different profile bios which gives a hint as to when the issue happened

then the dev user view should be able to update the rest of the user details

4:44 AM
@ArtOfCode First two have feedbacks associated

@Undo Re-map all associations from the latter two to 288?

So probably copy OAuth details 363 -> 288, nuke 363, reassign feedbacks 335 -> 288, nuke 335

just imagine, this is how much fun SE has with account merges

Any other associations we care about?

autoflagging things, API things (probably neither exist)
that should be the important stuff
