hmm
@ArtOfCode I actually don't remember how to make an SE API filter
is there a nice GUI like the MS one

yes
in the docs

@ArtOfCode ... spoilers :)
I'm not going to read it, I'd prefer to wait for the surprise :D

fucking hell of course art has the best handwriting

@ArtOfCode Wait... you wrote people letters? Do I have to write people letters too?

I am legitimately very self conscious about my handwriting, it's awful

12:09 AM
@Catija Hehe. I might've just wrote one to angus for some particular reason ;)

Also... did the stickers come in those boxes or did you get them?

@quartata Mine's alright, but I honestly couldn't care how good bad it is :P
As long as it is readable by the teachers

@Catija nah, already had the boxes

Ah. They seem perfect. :D

@ArtOfCode i see a trademark symbol there
so obviously this is about a corporate takeover of Charcoal

12:11 AM
clearly
@Catija I've got a whole set of those little boxes of just about any shape you like... just had to pick the right ones :)

I assume Smokey uses unsafe filters?

they came in a giant bubble-wrap envelope, in individual packs of 50

@Undo @Andy Do you know if AWS Lambda supports HTTP keep-alive?

Probably not
You can't keep a connection alive to something that runs for milliseconds
Gateway might; that's where you'd want to look

I guess I shouldn't assume then
kinda sucks em-http-request parses the URI and opens the connection in the constructor
was hoping to build the object once

2:43 AM
no additional reasons, just a little note in the why
two separate commands

so for clarity: !!/report still works and just throws it at MS with the manually reported reason, and !!/scan puts it through the full process?
in other words, !!/report remains ineligible for autoflagging and !!/scan is eligible?

@ArtOfCode Seems so.

Except that it doesn't catch it if it wouldn't catch it anyways

@ArtOfCode Are you capable of destroying MS records? We can test that (scan a known FP to see if it works).

It's not like report where it reports it no matter what

2:46 AM
Okay... cc @Undo, but I think we're okay with that. No abuse vector, because it'll only be autoflagged if it would've hit the reasons naturally.
Which begs the question... why is this command necessary?

@iBug no record is created if it doesn't hit reasons

yeah, designed for missed posts

If it would've hit the reasons naturally, it'll already have been reported

@ArtOfCode read 513

If it wouldn't, then scanning it won't hit anything either

2:47 AM
@ArtOfCode You an even argue that one can add a garbage answer just to bump a missed spam question, which, is abusive

If Smokey scans every post on realtime, how would it miss things? I don't think Smokey would catch a post now if it didn't previously, unless the restrictions were made harsher...

@HyperNeutrino I have a record of a missed spam.

Oh alright

@iBug but is that "missed" as in "Smokey scanned it and it didn't hit any reasons" or as in "Smokey didn't scan it"?

The latter

People ask all the time about this stuff

This is an obviously missed post (deleted already, of course)

Wonder if it'd be possible to store what post IDs we've scanned in metasmoke

if you search that post in MS, zero hit, means it's not caught at all

@iBug sure, not caught, that doesn't necessarily mean not scanned

2:49 AM
@ArtOfCode isn't is there already?

@ArtOfCode would take up a lot of space

That blatant spam can't be missed if scanned.

@quartata not necessarily... I'm doing the math on that

we only need site and post_id
these two information can uniquely identify a post

@HyperNeutrino no need. I have accounts only on sites I participate in, and sites that gets a lot of spam

@iBug I mean every time there's a site that gets a single spam post I create an account on it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but like no not literally 100, maybe 60 is a bit too high but I can't remember the exact number

I give up for single posts

yesterday, by Undo
@iBug nuking logs
What do you mean by "scanned ID"?
You mean storing the information of whether a post is scanned?
25 MB/mo sounds too much, I was estimating only 2~3 MB/mo
We can store the site ID as a tinyint (or whatever 8 or 16 bit integer) and the post ID as a 32-bit integer, and the scan time as any 64-bit data type, so we're storing up to 16 bytes each scan.
Given the daily scan number, it's 200KB/d, so (uh-oh) 6MB/mo
I know I'm too naive :)

...I guess it helps if you store numbers as numbers not strings
though once you do that our problem becomes not space but sheer number of DB rows
we'd have 3 million rows at the end of one month
storing as strings you lose out on space but you can do it in a sane number of rows

DB rows, yeah surely a problem then
don't expect a university student of age 18 to know that much about real productivity stuff
can we give the new command a trial run?

@ArtOfCode if it's read infrequent perhaps a flat file of packed ints would be better

Maybe we should first make it clear when we are going to read it.
@quartata That'd still generate 6 MB/mo (or 3 MB/mo if you're not going to store scan time)

Little more than that, but still that's not awful
Another option is to have Helios store it
(reason why it's more is shorts are too small)
(also need site ID)
(but we don't need scan time)

so just two int32, one site ID, one post ID, that's 8 bytes/post
