@QPaysTaxes You should be - it doesn't look like you're checking for refcycles.

@Mego Neither Perl, C++, Objective-C or Vala do that so he's not alone
@QPaysTaxes Really? That's new.

Anonymous

no, Objective-C doesn't check for cycles
but Xcode has a memory debugger which does

Anonymous
"impossible" is a term that gets thrown around shortly before the phrase "that shouldn't happen", which is then followed by "how the hell did that happen"

Anonymous
1:02 AM
Throwing a baseball into the sun is absolutely possible. You just need a stronger arm.

Anonymous
Throw it straight up just before noon on an equinox, at a significant portion of c. It'll reach the sun in a few minutes, and only mildly vaporize the atmosphere.

Anonymous
@QPaysTaxes That assumption lacks future-proofing.

Anonymous
@QPaysTaxes Nobody said they had to do it twice ;P

Anonymous
Oh I perfectly understand what you're saying. But your analogy is poor.

Anonymous
1:09 AM
Your analogies still are flawed. My original point is, just because you think something is impossible doesn't actually make it impossible. You may think that cyclic references won't happen in your code, and you may have run tests, but some obscure bug caused by a future update may allow them, and by not checking for them and dealing with them now, you're going to cause yourself a lot of headaches in the future.

@QPaysTaxes ...because that's less frustrating.
could you add unit tests that find cyclic references, just in case?

Anonymous
I promise I won't be smug when you get a memory leak because you don't check for cycles

Anonymous
Sure, but you have to wait an eternity for something to never happen.

Anonymous
I'm not waiting for something to never happen?

...I think it's about time to drop this conversation; it's degraded beyond the point of productivity.

Anonymous
1:14 AM
I already told you I promised I wouldn't be smug

@QPaysTaxes Not to be rude, but...why does that matter?

Anonymous
@QPaysTaxes I'm sorry if you interpreted it that way, but I was being genuine. What does it say about you, that you assumed the worst in my statement?

@QPaysTaxes oftentimes it's best to not worry about that.

Anonymous
You're not Being Nice now.

Anonymous
Not everyone on the internet is a nasty troll out to get you. Some of us genuinely want to help. But if you are going to keep your negative outlook, you'll find that people aren't so willing to help.

Anonymous
1:18 AM
@QPaysTaxes On SE, the prime directive is Be Nice. That means (among other things) don't assume the worst of people.

Anonymous
If someone says something that at face value is not hostile, but can be interpreted to be hostile, Being Nice is assuming that they meant the non-hostile meaning.

Anonymous
Assume Good Faith.

Anonymous
I'm neither insulting you nor being condescending. It's quite frustrating that you think that I am, when I'm merely trying to have a conversation with you. I'll make sure not to make that mistake again.

Anonymous
You're going to have a lot of trouble in the workforce with that attitude.

1:31 AM
ooooh dear what did I walk in on
@QPaysTaxes @Mego That... was an entirely pointless and avoidable argument. Let's... not?
3
it ain't often we have disturbance in this room, and I'd like to keep it that way

@Glorfindel I've implemented the gas mask in READi. I've also removed the Carthage build artifacts from Git; you'll have to run carthage update --platform iOS if you haven't already.

you have a memory leak?
hm I miss valgrind and memory allocation
I have a Skype meeting shortly. After that let me know if I can help if you haven't sorted it out

@QPaysTaxes No leak checking. It only checks stud that does happen (like a double-free or out-of-bounds memory access), not stuff that doesn't happen (like the lack of a free). And I'm on my phone right now; I'll check later.

@QPaysTaxes they keep on registering new accounts, but they keep on posting materially the same question
I guess we could try to articulate a custom rule for it

removes the ring of conflict

I went looking for a link to the meta question but the search results alone should probably already convince you chat.stackexchange.com/search?q=write+a+book&room=11540
and here is the (slightly weird) meta meta.stackexchange.com/questions/268774/…
@QPaysTaxes if you tpu- someone that only blacklists that particular account
but there is a regex you can update to blacklist everyone with that username
so !!/blacklist-username adds to that list
(I hope I remember the name of the command correctly)

yeah, you don't want \w here

all right, I'm a pro after all
do we have any evidence that they register with multiple spaces?
giving up on using the same user name is probably the easiest fix, adding spaces would be unusual, most people would tend to add numbers or something I think
this possibly legit account is now blacklisted math.stackexchange.com/users/257806/anonymous-teacher
but it was last active in 2015 and it could be the troll
