@undo something is wrong with the report at chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/31588046#31588046

A modus operandi is someone's habits of working, particularly in the context of business or criminal investigations. It is a Latin phrase, approximately translated as "method of operation". In English, it is often shortened to M.O. == Term == The term is often used in police work when discussing crime and addressing the methods employed by the perpetrators. It is also used in criminal profiling, where it can help in finding clues to the offender's psychology. It largely consists of examining the actions used by the individual(s) to execute the crime, prevent its detection and/or facilitate escape...

@ArtOfCode Any new about when Pops is gonna come here?

11:45 AM
@AshishAhujaツ No.
The latest we've heard is that it may be this week

So today, tomorrow or friday
I dont think stack people work on weekends

I hope it's on Friday. I have a holiday that day

there's usually some CMs working on the weekends, but they don't do big stuff like this on the weekends

Well working as in keeping the site from spontaneously combusting
I don't think schedulable work gets put there though

banter and minor modding

11:48 AM
It's important to remember that this is one of many things on Pops' (or any CM's) plate. Schedules and priorities change. So, while it'll be nice when the conversation starts, you really only need to look at the "6-8 weeks" meme to understand that "this week" may not actually mean sometime in the next few days.

"this week" is not as long as "6-8 weeks", but it's not necessarily the next two days :P

strictly speaking it ends on stack server time 23:59 on sunday

I'm just trying to help set expectations. As far as I'm aware, this entire discussion was brought up in a single comment on meta and there has been one additional discussion about timing which was fairly non-committal about the time.

^ that

I fully expect it to take place at some point, but from those two interactions, "this week" seems overly optimistic.

11:58 AM
The original 1-2 weeks was from a comment from Tim on meta; the latest estimate was me saying "hey pops any news".

Maybe its cultural but I really hate ambiguous statements like that
Over here, "this week" means this week and not following through on schedules is considered an almost mortal sin
Thats why germans are careful to give ETA's, because when you give one, you can't get out of it again

I wouldn't be too worried on timelines, it gives us more time to get a gameplan anyway
If it's been a bit longer than a week and no word, then we can ask a CM for a new estimate

@Quill I come from a culture where being 5 minutes late is considered a disciplinary offense for most people, I'm a little on the edge about timelines always :p

Heh, meanwhile here we have staff members rock up to work at midday in sandals

The idea isn't to be annoying. Smokey already has the respect of the powers that be at SE for the help it's done. Let them get their ducks in a row and prepare for the discussion. It'll happen.

12:01 PM
Yeah, that wouldn't fly here. You're late any time at all, you're working every half hour that started extra, unpaid, rounding up

@Magisch, cultural differences aside, we can't force the discussion to happen. I wouldn't want to force it anyway. This entire project is doing fine. It performs well. It is known by SE and has their blessing. It's been commented on favorably many times around the network. By forcing it, or pestering them with "you said one week", we slowly chip away at that goodwill.

Yeah, I know
I'm just getting irritated again for no reason
Pops probably has 99 problems and I hope our impatience isn't one

Here's a plan for this room: Convince SE to hire me. inspirational music starts As a new employee, I'll work with this room to continue to improve SE. I'll help make Smokey the best bot on the network. Together, we'll crush spam and ensure a clean network for all! round of applause

Are you trump now?
That sounded Trumpian

That was not Trump sounding.

12:12 PM
@Andy "I'll help make Smokey the best bot on the network."

Make Smokey great again

Maybe I've grown overly cynical to superlatives
Smokey arguably is already the best chat bot on SE
There are bots who post more, but they're gimmicks like the hangman game bot in the JS room or somesuch

Trump would have been something like this: "I'll stop those other bots from even getting on the network. I, you know, we'll make Smokey great again. I'll shut down the API and scraping and all those things, because, you know, they they bring their spam here. The system is rigged. You know it, I know it. We can't even talk directly to the developers. What kind of corrupt system is this, where good hardworking developers can't built this thing to stop spam by talking directly to the system?"
4

Trump'd.

Now I'm picturing you with orange skin and a ferret on your head
well done

There's another MS commit.
After the next MS deploy, you'll be able to delete your own feedback if it's wrong. Go find the post in metasmoke, click (clear), find your feedback, and click delete.

Will feedback deleted in such a way count as invalidated for purposes of the summary?

12:53 PM
Um. Probably yes, at the moment, mainly because there was no better way to do it.

That may lend itself to a bad incentive

Might it?

Invalidated feedback is on the same level as "You dont want any" as declined flags
It counts against you

well if you don't invalidate it, I will - it's getting done either way, it's just who does it

In the same way its hard to justify declining your own flags or downvoting your own bad posts, that may be construed the same way

12:56 PM
I'll think up a better solution than just invalidating it at some point, but for now it's just who can do it that's changed

If you're alone and the mistake isn't obvious, that means that there is now a tacit incentive not to correct the record - if you don't, you might get invalid feedback. If you do, you definitely get it.

Its a small concern

yeah

I'm not too fuzzed about invalid feedback as it doesn't happen to me often
Around 1% of the time, maybe

12:57 PM
I'd like to think people here are honest enough to invalidate themselves, but even if not I'll come across it eventually.

In our current reviewers, most likely everyone is

I run a search for conflicts about every week, and if a conflict gets reported in chat I just deal with it.

If this thing keeps growing maybe not 100% anymore
