10:00 AM
I did look first though

10:14 AM
No need to be too curious, the content on the screen is some work on Smokey :)

so that's basically a run of the mill Android phone with a clickety Bluetooth keyboard?

Exactly.
And typing with a physical kbd is much more comfortable than OSK, when writing answers on Stack Overflow

39% battery D-:

there are very nice external battery packs now

@iBug If you're developing on android, what're you chatting from?

10:24 AM
@thesecretmaster Just switch between Termux and Chrome.
Double-clicking the "recent" button swtiches between two recent apps.

How'd you take the picture?

@Mithrandir Good question. I took out my camera (years old) for that.
The EXIF is there in the image :)

I'm on iOS, but I've got a pretty nice app which lets me ssh into my linux computer to do dev work.

@thesecretmaster This app has built-in apt and dpkg utilities and provides a variety of packages, including coreutils, binutils, Clang, Python, Git, GnuPG, OpenSSH, and even FFmpeg or MariaDB/Postgre (via community-hosted repos).

But I feel like it's gotta be slow, unless you've got a really nice phone

10:34 AM
Not quite slow, it's a OnePlus 6, beefy Snapdragon 845 with 8GB RAM.
Android runs on a (Google modified) Linux kernel so most tools are built native (ELF).

the real question is, what's that plush mascot in the corner of the photo? :)

oooh, a cute bear ragdoll

ideal for rubber duck plush bear debugging

No, you need a rubber duck.
so cute that just looks like Keto Ultra Diet detector :)

hmm, it looks rather grumpy, no?

10:41 AM
That's just a bad angle the shot taken.

11:12 AM
@ByteCommander Plush bear debugging: Release your frustration into a cute plush animal when your code isn't working?

!!/alive
probably not ...

Nope

@Glorfindel Yup

@SmokeDetector what have you been drinking?

Heavily rate-limited?

I think there's a Metasmoke problem still

@tripleee yeah, could be.

@tripleee that, Redunda and Sentinel are down too: status.sobotics.org

Undo has been pinged?

completely ignoring reports here, but at least still scanning

@Federico No, rate-limiting is in-place.

@Undo MS server exploded. Curious if it was MariaDB or something else.

@doppelgreener That pattern looks like it's already caught by Pattern-matching website in answer; append -force if you really want to do that.

@doppelgreener please take care to escape the dot if you want to push through

@doppelgreener Shouldn't that be mcdodo\.pk?

11:23 AM
yeah that too, though I suppose there could be cases where you really want the https:// at the start

@tripleee oops, thanks

Q: Can we make the X Questions with new activity feed not load deleted spam title and body?

Erik von AsmuthWhen loading new questions by pressing the X Questions with new activity button, spam posts are shown with title and a section of the body, even if they're already deleted as spam. This likely substantially increases their exposure if they're quickly deleted, since any users that have the quest...

@ByteCommander there's issues

@ByteCommander plz send teh coffee
@ByteCommander teward/Solar Flare

o_O
that.... took a while

11:37 AM
yes
that is the issue :P

I was aware that MS died, but Smokey being sluggish like a zombie now too?

Strange delay

Must be like xmas for spammers today

way too long than the maximum of SE chat's rate-limiting (20 secs)

Perhaps we should spin up a MS-less instance.

11:38 AM
!!/reboot

@Mithrandir AFAIK any SD instances can and do run without MS.

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started at rev fe28250 (tripleee: Typo in format string --autopull) (running on teward/Solar Flare)

Yes, but I think that's what's causing the delays.

@thesecretmaster Watching this endless list of new questions never gets boring

I think it's fixed?

hum
@SmokeDetector autoflagged

... or not

looks more like not 🙂

11:40 AM
certainly cannot open Metasmoke's start page

Metasmoke is down, that's known. The server appears to be fully borked.
Dunno why that'd make Smokey slow though

instant response???

@iBug Is it possible to run smokey MS fully disabled?

@thesecretmaster yes

it wants to report its results to MS, I think it should probably be more resilient when MS goes down (as opposed to being capable of running completely MS-less if you start it up in that mode)

11:42 AM
@thesecretmaster Leave metasmoke_host undefined in config

Do we have someone who could reconfigure their instance to do that?

Yes, I can

I may fire one up now.

@tripleee can't that call be made asynchronously?

@tripleee or there should possibly an admin chat command like !!/metasmoke disable

11:43 AM
oh, I don't have Smokey credentials

Restart: API quota is 18894.

Mith does
Want to try moving to Miths instance?

Let's launch his for now
!!/location

@iBug teward/Solar Flare

Okay... should be starting up now

11:45 AM
@iBug Mithrandir/Tauremornalómë

huh, speedy response again?

@iBug !!/location doesn't require calling metasmoke

Yeah, but I think the working hypothesis is that it's super slow because it's trying to report posts to MS -- that'd make everything slow.

...that's odd

11:47 AM
wait for up to 20 secs
beyond that there's something other than MS wrong.

It's having trouble logging in

I have an EC2 instance and I only need credentials before I can launch it

@thesecretmaster ... did I miss something?

!!/rev

@micsthepick hah, you missed the leading ellipses :)

11:49 AM
Huh. Let me take a look at Alqualondë.

May I have the creds?

@iBug not my decision

!!/status

I can run Smokey for a prolonged period of time (guaranteed until end of June '19)
@iBug cc @tripleee

11:51 AM
let's see about Mithrandir's ongoing efforts first

good

Do we have any other runners around?
Doesn't Henders have an instance?

Trying in reverted mode
!!/rev

11:54 AM
@thesecretmaster You have no way to activate that one :(

...uh. one minute

@iBug Could ping @Henders, they're here.

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started at rev 342c247 (iBug: should be debug output, not info) (running on iBug/EC2)

While Mith's working, I've launched my own "placeholder"

Wat. that's very odd, it'd not prompting for username and password in the terminal anymore

11:56 AM
Hope it can find out spam posts for the time being.

@Mithrandir Prolly got the stupid captcha thing

Does Smokey process !!/reports made while offline?

(can I recall my words...?)
