!!/blacklist-website total-qa\.com

@tripleee Blacklisted total-qa\.com

@SmokeDetector Doesn't look like it's working in the expected way.
@SmokeDetector why

@iBug Body - Post contains 228 dots out of 562 characters

So, 562, the XML in the code block must have been stripped.
not something easy to handle, so I'll just hope such posts don't come in large quantities.

4:23 AM
@tripleee What about promoting things that are neither a purchase, nor vising their site (e.g. "You could use my free library that is on GitHub")? While such could be considered #visit-my-website or #buy-my-thing, it's not really something that's trying to get you to just visit, or pay money.

@iBug the rule has 'stripcodeblocks': False but then it does its own ad-hoc code block stripping at the beginning of the mostly_dots() method

^ that

@Makyen hmmm, I think I would tag those as #visit-my-website but really all of these are too broad

@tripleee No, there are two paths of stripping tags.
The body way gets the part that's not inside a code block, while the s way gets the length of the whole post body.

ah yes, it keeps s and strips code out of body which is the one it counts the dots in ... so it doesn't count dots in code blocks, but it should get (roughly) the non-code dots as a percentage of all of the post, including code blocks

4:27 AM
So we're comparing # of dots outside code blocks against length of whole body, code included.

... but the "code" in this case looks like "tags" because it's XML
and it strips the tags from everything

Yes, so the XML gets stripped ....

if you put the strip_urls_and_tags(body) call before the ad-hoc regex.sub() stripping, does that help?
@iBug well yeah

4:30 AM
Is there a reason that the body stored in MS is not the actual HTML delivered from the SE API? Currently, what's stored is a processed version of the HTML (at a minimum, all the &lt; and &gt; entities in <code> are changed to the actual characters, < and >). The frustrating thing is that this processing makes it impossible to recover the original HTML.

@iBug the problem with "proper" HTML parsing is that it tends to break in horrific ways when you give it human-generated HTML
@Makyen I agree, we should look into changing the architecture, but that also means most of our old posts will be invalid / incompatible

Yeah, that's an issue that I don't have a good solution for. Perhaps we would need to store it as some other column (e.g. html). Under most conditions, the original HTML is recoverable, but there are potential situations where different original HTML/Markdown content can produce identical processed HTML. I can give an example, if desired.

we have a few of those in the ticket
another option is to synthesize HTML from the Markdown we have stored and use that going forward

I'm not aware of us storing the Markdown.

oh yeah, we already have HTML, it's just that it's generated from the Markdown rendering
so maybe we don't need to normalize that at all

4:38 AM
Side note: Could an RO/mod re-pin the project links? Thanks.

@tripleee turns out no, but that would at least be a step in the right direction
@Makyen says "starred and pinned"

Restart: API quota is 8897.

I guess that means I was the one who starred and pinned them the last time, and can't do it again

@tripleee Yep, because it's generated from Markdown is why it's possible/reasonable to try to use limited regex parsing.
@tripleee Yep. That's what it would say under those conditions.
@ibug Please re-pin the project links.

AFAIK the only exception to the general rules there is that it's not a big deal if all your answers are about your own product, if you tailor the answers to the question at hand.
