@Rob If that is the case, then its fine, but when reading the readme, it doesn't mention that its only enabled by default for SO

Rob
Ah, yep. It was mainly designed around Natty, with a bit of Smokey feedback as well

Anyway, night all o/

@iBug its also worth remembering, a single person, not flagging a single post, cause they're not sure is fine

Rob
Pretty much only red flags work outside of SO

@iBug Don't. If you're not familiar with an answer, don't suspect it. It's better to fall on the wrong side. Remember that there are huge penalties associated with spam flags (what Angus said).

@angussidney there goes my plans to juggle chainsaws while mixing a virgin flaming homer.

In that case, it was quite quite evident that the OP added an answer to their own question.

@Ferrybig regd that, does FIRE show if it is a self answer? ^^

@angussidney This. Please, please, pretty please.

(I hope I don’t start making a routine of having to say that, it’s the 3rd time this week I’ve had to)

Rob
Heh, I like it

@BhargavRao no, it doesn't

@angussidney That is my main worry about charcoal as a mod.

It shows post content, rep, and if it was edited or autoflagged

12:03 PM
If you're using Smokey to gain helpful flags and not to help clear spam, then you're misusing Smokey.

@Mithrandir Exactly why I don’t use FIRE on low-weight posts
Limited information
Anyway, actually cya everyone

@angussidney I share the exact same issues in another room. The really lucky thing is, we're not famous.
@Mithrandir then it probably should.

I gain (unnecessary) helpful flags in another way, not Smokey...

Just thinking about keeping better "audit trails" - at the moment posting second feedback will replace the first - maybe it should "clear" the first feedback so it is still present and counts towards the invalidated feedback score?

@JourneymanGeek there are a lot of domains which use Namecheap which don't trigger this rule; but indeed, that's one of the reasons it is probabaly going to stay in experimental

@tripleee How does a domain trigget Bad NS?

Anyway, just a few ending notes. Don't go to FGITW on flags. If you don't know how to handle a report, leave it to the others, there are way more experienced people here, who've been mods for longer than what we've been users for.

see above, I explained it about 30 minutes ago
most consumer domains who have Namecheap are on different servers than the spammers

right

@WELZ if you do a "dig -t ns (domain)" and it returns Namecheap, that's a bad NS

I need to go as well, got an entire night left and an early morning submission. Cya guys. Do let me know if I can be of help.

Put simply, not flagging something is never a big problem. Flagging something wrongly can be.

@BhargavRao Good luck!

Thanks! :)

@Ferrybig: responded to your GH issues / suggestions

12:10 PM
so the "bad NS" actually only happens for "namecheaphosting.com" not "namecheap.com"

very complex...

@Cerbrus Well, there goes that plan :p

@Cerbrus what about MS feedback score?

Yea... I actually like the "block inaccurate users"
But flag accuracy is just not obtainable from SE's API

That's what is more relevant here - SE flag score would include all the VLQ and NAA etc

12:12 PM
Hey @CalvT븃 :) Didn't see you come in!

@CalvT븃 MS feedback score?

@Henders o/ :)
@Cerbrus Yeah - percentage of invalidated feedback
For example I stand at 3184 feedbacks, 15 invalidated (0.47% invalid)

Is there an API endpoint for that?

Not sure, but that is something we (well Art/Undo) can add

Do you want MS to show reasons that a !!/report-ed post would have been caught? It's great! Now Alpha Pro Max Testo Boost Whatever has made it! Don't forget to read more >>> github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/pull/1677#

JAD
12:14 PM
It's not that hard to "farm" feedback scores though. You could just go to past reports and give redundant feedbacks there

@CalvT븃 And how would it handle self-cleared feedback?

JAD
(although maybe that's overthinking things)

Well I just posted this
7 mins ago, by CalvT븃
Just thinking about keeping better "audit trails" - at the moment posting second feedback will replace the first - maybe it should "clear" the first feedback so it is still present and counts towards the invalidated feedback score?

You want review audits in MS?

No - just better tracking of users that change their feedback

12:16 PM
STOP! Look and listen: This is a known FP, designed to make sure you're paying attention. You cannot give feedbacks in <time>.

New metasmoke user 'Tschallacka' created

@iBug well, the reason we have those on sites was people robo reviewing.

@Cerbrus can add an API endpoint for user feedback scores if necessary, yeah. Self-cleared feedback doesn't count as invalidated.
And yeah - I don't doubt that audits would be effective, but I don't want to have to do them. We work well without them, we should be able to continue doing that

Another issue would be were we'd place the threshold

Problem is, are we tracking self-cleared feedbacks?

12:19 PM
What's your thoughts on my suggestion @ArtOfCode ?

Old threshold was 4%+4

@ArtOfCode what's that?

I'd probably reduce it if we were to do that now. 2% or even 1% is easily achievable for all of us.

@ArtOfCode Does the MS api consider that threshold?
1261 feedbacks, 29 invalidated (2.3% invalid)
That's where I'm at...
Not sure if that 2.3% includes self-invalidated

1 min ago, by iBug
Problem is, are we tracking self-cleared feedbacks?

12:21 PM
@Cerbrus Not at all. There used to be a thing that would start ignoring your feedback if you had more than 4% of your feedback invalidated. It doesn't exist any more.

@ArtOfCode It might be a better option to implement something like that again MS-side, with FIRE catching the error, and showing some kind of "you're naughty" error message

potentially

@iBug Added go4trial\.com to watchlist

12:22 PM
bringing something along those lines back might not be a terrible idea

Then it'd be handled for all tools

thoughts from @Undo on that

no one responding to me...

Possibly the best part of that system was that it would ignore your feedback, but once another not-ignored user had fed back the same thing, it'd count that feedback again

JAD
I'm not sure how self-cleared feedbacks are any different from overwritten feedbacks

12:23 PM
Oh, that's nice
@JAD They're not

Self-cleared feedbacks don't count as invalidated

@ArtOfCode But overwritten does?

Restart: API quota is 14635.

You can also invalidate your own feedback, which... does count as invalidated. Unsurprisingly.

12:24 PM
Are we tracking (or recording) self cleared feedbacks?

@Cerbrus self-cleared = overwritten. No.

Q: Should I upvote spam?

xfixAccording to Why shouldn't I downvote spam that I've already flagged?, spam shouldn't be downvoted. But what about a completely opposite action, that is, upvoting it. This has as advantage of spam being more visible and more likely to be quickly removed.

@ArtOfCode And the 'overwritten' feedback system didn't always exist. That's why I've got 1 invalidation. (Not that I'm bitter about it all this time later or anything... :P )

(disclaimer: I wrote an answer there)

Is there a record in the DB that reads "User Foo submitted this feedback, and then self cleared"?

12:25 PM
If you use the "clear" link on a MS post and hit delete on your feedback, you're invalidating it. That counts "against" you.
If you overwrite your feedback by feeding back again with a different feedback type, MS deletes the original feedback and creates a new one, so it doesn't count against you.

@ArtOfCode I'd argue that that shouldn't count against you, since you "resolved" it yourself

12:28 PM
@Cerbrus Yeah, that's the reason it doesn't

wait wat

it's the reason it exists at all, people didn't like feedback having to be invalidated when they wanted to change it

@ArtOfCode "That counts "against" you." < why?

oh, missed which one you replied to

Ah :P

12:30 PM
That's just a historical holdover. Originally, all feedback was forever. Then admins gained the ability to invalidate incorrect feedback. People complained they had to wait for admins, so people got the ability to invalidate their own feedback. People complained that resolving your own issues shouldn't count against you, so overwriting feedback became a thing.
We just never removed the previous abilities

Ah

@ArtOfCode What do you mean, "count against you"?

Can you see who invalidated what feedback?

yes

Can I see how many of my invalidated feedback, was invalidated by myself?

12:32 PM
I have 1 invalidated feedback... by myself -_-

@WELZ invalidated feedback is nominally a bad thing
@Cerbrus yes if you ask me to ask the database very nicely

Lol

@ArtOfCode Pretty please?

@ArtOfCode so, if I invalidate my own feedback, it shouldn't count on my feedbacks?

How does it materialise as bad though? Do I get my privileges revoked? Is that automatic or manual?

12:33 PM
@WELZ That's what I've been saying :P But that's more of an artifact of older times
@doppelgreener At the moment, it does nothing

@WELZ If you invalidate your feedback, it counts against you. If you overwrite your feedback, it doesn't.

@doppelgreener If you have a poor ratio... it will raise flags to admins etc.

But we're considering adding a threshold that blocks feedback from users with too much invalidated feedback

@ArtOfCode In case you missed my "Pretty please": Could you have a peek into the DB for me please?

Ok, so it calls me into question as a charcoal member and reviewer if I've got a lot of bad feedback, but it's not like there's a Feedback Ban system like we have here for Q&A bans

@ArtOfCode Overwrite is just giving new feedback, correct?

Given the volume of spam caught, then I would have thought that changing overwriting to also count against you wouldn't change much unless you where doing it a lot (in which case then you need to be talked to/introduced to a pallet of bricks anyway)

@doppelgreener Not right now, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to add it
