@ArtOfCode I think the template has some inaccuracy.
The FAQ says a small part of rudeness should be edited out, instead having the whole post flagged as R/A.

yeah
this isn't something we're going to do for every mishandled post
only if there's a persistent problem

The question is, is there any community that still don't know how to handle spam?

There probably is, but they don't get much spam so isn't an issue

Just want to point out, if brought down to 3 flags, it will be even quicker (so long as there are a few people online in chat here) 1 autoflag, and when you provide feedback through FIRE it will flag as well, so those posts will probably go in less time

2:39 PM
@David Sorry misunderstood. If you !!/report <question url> a post, then we would go and flag it
It would then go in our records, and we would potentially alter our spam catching system to catch more posts like it

@CalvT븃 so it does in some way train the bot. that is what I wanted to know, because being a mod I don't need the auto flag part.

@David Well it doesn't exactly train the bot per se, but bringing it to our notice means we edit the filters to catch more like it
Say you'd reported the dogshunt question, we would of then watched the url (as you did), then any posts that include that url will now be automatically reported here

alright. I'll try to remember to !!/report post URLany spam in the future.

That's awesome thanks

@ArtOfCode Of course not. But I'm not writing in anything else for something that Metasmoke would run

@quartata this sounds like scope creep
what are you planning?

18 hours ago, by John Dvorak
or perhaps go fancy, and pass the reason vector to a neural network to get a confidence rating
I decided to take this a little bit more seriously
just to try it
this is the best I found so far incidentally: github.com/tangledpath/ruby-fann

@quartata yeah, scope creep
metasmoke stores posts, it doesn't do in-depth analysis on them

This operates on the post's reasons
not the contents of the post itself
it's not really any more creepy than what we do for current autoflagging

same difference

3:56 PM
not really

Yeah
not something that metasmoke should be doing
make it part of Smokey or a separate bot

.....why?
what metasmoke is doing currently is a crude form of classification
how is making it a little less crude suddenly outside of its scope

It's adding some numbers from a database up, comparing them to other numbers in the database, and flagging if they work. It's almost not analysis at all.
In-depth analysis on machine learning lines is not something it was ever made to do.
(nor something that the server is likely to have capacity for)

I actually suspect it'd be faster than current autoflagging but

Faster than adding numbers up? Doubt it

4:00 PM
uhhh and several joins

@quartata which query, specifically?

calculating reason weight involves joining posts and posts_reasons right?

yep
that's about the fastest join we do anywhere in metasmoke :P

but it's still one

730 msec for all 100k posts
sub-10 msec for our standard 100 pagesize

4:03 PM
I just suspect it'll be tough to beat like maybe 3 matrix multiplications done in C is all
it does help that the reason weight is precalculated per week, I forgot about that

@quartata try it. You've got <10ms on 100 posts to beat.

that's just the DB query itself

@quartata what's the equivalent operation?

20 nanoseconds per neuron would be in the microseconds range, not counting whatever overhead there is from the ruby binding
@ArtOfCode I'd tell you if I could find it... not sure where the reason weight pluck is actually done
at any rate the performance wasn't the point
the point was scope creep
which I have to disagree with

4:13 PM
cc @Undo

what metasmoke is doing now is still basically learning a distribution
the thing is that currently all reasons are independent

Can't read everything right now, but Standard Procedure applies: If we can make something that works better, objectively, than what we have, we can find a place to put it.

I was thinking of something probably more annoying before Dvorak just suggested a full NN, I figured it was at least worth entertaining

Oh great idea. One more question for you. Sorry I am taking your precious time.
If I ask questions here then I will hardly earn any reputation.
I am bothered about reputation because it unlocks new features at SE.

We aren't part of any site, so there's no way you can earn reputation in Charcoal

Yes. If you're seeking general advice, you're better off somewhere else I'm afraid.

I get it. Thanks

How come reporting as NAA (through FIRE) doesn't flag as NAA
Do we even have autoflagging for NAA?

no
Smokey is a spam/abuse bot. If we catch some NAA as a side-effect it's okay, but that's not its purpose.

7:01 PM
also the r/a will just flag as spam (which is technically incorrect)

r/a will not flag at all, if you mean the button in FIRE
we have the approval of a community manager though that spam-flagging abusive posts is perfectly acceptable.
