I wonder if there are any places on the dark web or elsewhere where we can find the folks developing the spambots...
The problem here is that they haven't posted anything. Smokey would need to be updated to scan new accounts.
[feature-request] Scan new accounts as they are created to find spam content in their profile or URL

That's a different bot.

I'm not a mod, but I'm tempted to request access anyhow

I'm curious, how was this manually reported?

12:19 AM
@SmokeDetector why

@Mithrandir Post manually reported by user Sonic the Anonymous Hedgehog in room Tavern on the Meta.

in Tavern on the Meta on Meta Stack Exchange Chat, 1 min ago, by Sonic the Anonymous Hedgehog
!!/report https://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/67589/stack-overflow-like-site-for-sysa‌dmins/306191#306191

and that's how.
@JF not everywhere, in tavern - still has unicorn

@WELZ Is this a correct report? Should non-answers be reported to SmokeDetector?

No.

12:22 AM
I don't believe so, was wondering same thing

@JF I freakin' loved the old one
Of course that was just here
Everywhere else it's a unicorn

We deal with spam and rude/abusive content, and occasionally detect some NAAs as well.

Huh, I saw some users doing so, as well as off-topic MSE posts, are they wrong in both ways as well?
(as in programming questions on MSE)

While we don't mind detecting NAAs, we don't look for them or !!/report them.

So that report shouldn't have been done?

12:23 AM
@gparyani Yes, that's not what SmokeDetector is for.

I don't know, I just saw an emoji

12:33 AM
@WELZ just hasn't updated yet, it'll switch to the new one when the chat profile refreshes

you changed the unicorns??

I forced a refresh on SE chat, but I can't on MSE chat

@JohnDvorak I don't care, I was just being sarcastic (making fun of the cm's)

tpu- by Makyen

1:02 AM
@SmokeDetector why

@gparyani That's not a report.

What does that message mean?

@gparyani you have to reply to the report message, not the feedback

@WELZ No, why that message (beginning with "tpu-")?

tpu- mean true positive, blacklist user
and it's saying that Makyen (gave) feedback as TPU

1:04 AM
@WELZ Ah, thanks.

> tpu or trueu — Marks a reported post as true positive and adds the poster to the blacklist.

So is Smokey merely heuristics-based?

uhhh... I'm not sure what you mean, sorry

So it just uses filter classification?
Out of curiosity, has there been any work on an AI-powered version?

@gparyani There were, but they weren’t very good. Turns out detecting spam is harder than it looks :)

1:13 AM
@JF On a ClueBot NG-type version?

1:41 AM
A few different approaches
The thing about ClueBot NG is that the actual regression apart is for deciding whether to rollback the edit or not (which is something you don't want to FP on). This is basically akin to us casting autoflags
Now our autoflagging is actually based on the weights of each reason, like with ClueBot. (What I'm currently working on is putting that info into an NN rather than what we do with them now)

@WELZ You don't have code privileges, but I've created PR#1562 for you.

Well, what is a legitimate reason to put "gmail com" in a post?

I'm going to see if I can improve our existing hacker regex

Putting some email is one thing, but obfuscated?

If I ever put my email publicly on the internet, I obfuscate it to avoid spammers spamming me
See my SE profile for example

2:28 AM
@if.... What if someone inadvertently forgets the dot?

I just made a new email so I don't care if people spam it (check my profile)

Anyway, while emails don't have a legit place in any SE post, they often turn out to be NAAs, which we don't want to catch on purpose

Okay, then I suggest \w*(doctor|credit|hacker)\w* gmail( dot)? com

Waaay to general to add as a keyword. Losts of FPs on Biology etc

I meant in something like \w*(cure|doctor|credit|hacker)\w* gmail( dot)? com
Actually the dot com part is probably unnecessary, \w*(cure|doctor|credit|hacker)\w* gmail should be enough signal

We already have a bad keyword and email in answer reason, which includes many of those keywords, so I'm modifying it to catch obfuscated emails
