6:00 AM
well ... you guys do have a sockpuppet
I vote you make SD do it

That would be kinda amusing - making Smokey itself respond to questions

We probably need 2-3
people

talking about itself in the third person

I'm up for that. With the single caveat, that I am in central US (it's midnight right now). I'm sure everyone else would have the same caveat with their own timezone

Hard to get more authoritative than the bot itself

6:01 AM
And they'd need to be available as much as possible during the week following the meta

@Andy Pssh. Amateur. It's 0600 over here ;)

@Magisch I'm always around :)
@ArtOfCode I haven't gone to bed yet

I'd be up for it for non-programming related smokey stuff

@Andy nor me

I have some practice in explaining smokey to newcomers

6:01 AM
Soon...but not yet. I keep looking at a couple movies I want to watch and am deciding if it's worth starting tonight

@Magisch honestly, I get the feeling there'll be more of that happening in chat than on the thread

sure

cuz you can explain it once in a comment and everyone will see it because it got upvoted, but it'll keep getting lost in chat and needing re-explaining
or at least re-linking

thats odd ... that second link ... only had 2 votes when I hit it

6:04 AM
@CaffeineAddiction depends on the weight
this one had 291

ah, interesting
only 3x if over 300?

apparently not because there's one with 288 which got three
so I guess the logic is wrong
I've been meaning to ask about that
it seems that it selects a flagger randomly, then checks if this flagger's limits allow it to actually post a flag
if it pooled the flaggers whose criteria are met, there would be different problems, though
it would always flag if someone has a low enough threshold, and that someone would have a lot of potentially low-quality flags
you can see what got flagged here metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/flagging/logs
and there's one with 196 weight which also got three flags
^ IMHO we should not be doing that, at least not yet

@SmokeDetector k

@ArtOfCode yeah, that's what I was thinking
like max 1 flag up to say 300, 2 for what, lower than 400?

@tripleee yeah... meh. Everything is mandated over 99.5% accurate anyway, which is probably 20% better than humans.

precise boundaries TBD obviously
@ArtOfCode what about the one which got only two, is my speculation correct?

@tripleee the one which only got two?

6:19 AM
I dont think we need to tier # of autoflags
If a post is good enough to auto flag, it is good enough to autoflag to the maximum extent we do

I tend to agree

@SmokeDetector this one @ArtOfCode

We had what 1 FP now in 3200 flags an that was a horrifically off topic post anyways

@Magisch fair enough, my impression was that we were supposed to be going tiered

it doesn't do any checking at all, actually
picks a flagger randomly and tries to cast a flag in their name
gives up and moves on to the next flagger if it can't

6:22 AM
@ArtOfCode so fire and forget ... and if it fails screw it?

Maybe we should make it check only among the flaggers who'd be eligible to flag the post @ArtOfCode

repeat until we have enough flags

ah, so it does try again w/ another
kk

So if there's a 190 weight post, it'd only choose from people who have chosen to allow 190 for flag casting

@Magisch but then the ones with low thresholds would be selected a lot

6:23 AM
@Magisch what would the gain be, though? We should always hit the target number of flags, because it'll just keep trying again until we have enough

@ArtOfCode i suppose
We dont have low thresholds
We have high and super high thresholds

do we have a statistic for how many flaggers are available at which levels?

@Magisch this is... the entire point of flag conditions. Your account is only used for casting flags when one of your conditions is met or exceeded.
@tripleee I have a list of every condition, so kinda sorta.

I didn't know about the retry until we have enough thing

@ArtOfCode "kinda sorta" as in we can easily figure out if we have enough flaggers if all spam posts suddenly just barely get 190?

6:28 AM
please will some of you gentlemen browse my last comment in socvr. We need some votes there

@tripleee I count 7 people eligible for flagging 190

@tripleee probably once we've done the meta post

This meta post will be a real stress test for how organized we are

I suspect the answer is "organized enough".

We should probably still re-evaluate our processes
and see if we have any bottleneck

such as

7:41 AM
What happens when people come in
How do we explain SD to people

I guess all that really matters is that the organization here is superior to the organization of that of the spammers ... gg

How do we handle applications for privileges (we could use a form for that, maybe)

@Magisch the question I usually ask myself is "do we need to?"

7:43 AM
Who responds to inquiries and for what

realistically, how many privilege requests are we going to get?

A whole bunch

we rely on anyone who's here to explain Smokey, so that's fine

remember, we're about to introduce thousands of people to the project for the first time

lol, i can only imagine a bunch of diamonds coming in here saying "OP Plx"

7:44 AM
@Magisch I'd bet you we don't see upwards of 20 requests

@ArtOfCode I'd take that bet

@Magisch metaphorical bet, you're on :)

charcoal-se.org is a good page to link to someone first, right?

should be

All relevant information should be discoverable there

7:45 AM
it's intended as a first-look intro to Smokey

We probably need to agree to limit the initial explaining to one person per new guy
So we don't have 3 people showering someone in links :p

not all of the userscripts on that site work
fyi

@CaffeineAddiction "work" as in how?
@Magisch whoever gets there first

@ArtOfCode "CHQ Spam Reporter" gave me some error when I ran it

Thankfully we can rely on having only sensible and motivated people here

7:48 AM
the Smoky Sidebar is pretty nifty though

@CaffeineAddiction yeah, that's defunct now - functionality is merged into FDSC

That means we don't need to over organize everything

should probably nuke it from the repo to be honest

well, its still listed in the user scripts on that page ... might want to prune it

@ArtOfCode I like the Meta post, but what does it ask? I mean, in it's current form it will be probably closed as 'unclear what you're asking'. And reopened, and closed again, and reopened again.

7:50 AM
@Glorfindel meta posts don't need to ask anything
they don't have to be questions
and we have an SO mod here who can reinforce that

@Glorfindel Probably not

@ArtOfCode true, that will help. But Meta posts still have to be questions, mere announcements are rare, even those from Stack Overflow itself.

A meta post announcing / discussing something is fine so long as its actually relevant to the meta
the take a stand post was so controversial because it had abjectly nothing to do with MSO

@Magisch even the Developer Story leak post was closed/reopened multiple times.

@ArtOfCode also random note ... charcoal-se.org/userscripts link to Blaze yields a 404 due to uppercase B
