@Helwar I can say with near-certainty: Yes, that behavior is probably possible. That said, I have no idea how (never used WeChat)

@Delioth how the heck did you find the question? I mean, I can figure out how, but... why did you take the time to do it? Thanks!
I've emailed WeChat 2 times in the last week, still awaiting a response on them. An official account is needed for the SDK and all that jazz, and they handle them individually so... waiting time

@Rubiksmoose Brevity is often difficult to achieve.

Just had a speaker in health talk about the very real P**n epidemic in the us

what?

@Hobo_warrior porn epidemic?

2:15 PM
whatnow?
oh yea
There is a certain amount of truth to it.

I don't get it, what are we talking about?

pornography

Yeah, not at my tabletop. Some of those erotica themed rpg questions and game themes make me cringe.
Leave porn where it belongs. On the internet.

but ... but... that's where we are
as far as I know, you are all simulations

I know you're not.

2:18 PM
@trogdor sad-ass?

porn is an epidemic? Since when? and if it is so extended... what's wrong with it?

@goodguy5 I don't know which human you are, but I'm certain that you are a human.

@Helwar Can we agree to blame the Romans?
And just move on with it.

I mean, the porn thing is pretty interesting.

2:20 PM
@Helwar As a dev, it's frustrating when no-one hears you cry sometimes. Could have been one of the fields that I'm knowledgeable in. Good luck on that though

@goodguy5 Not in an RPG... at least not to me.

@Delioth Thanks a lot :)
@ColinGross IT depends what kind of RPG and who are you playing it with

Very similar to a lot of the body dismorphia that's going on, in the US especially. There's a lot of unrealistic sexual expectations, especially in males.

@goodguy5 Yeah, not all of us can grow facial hair, Hollywood.

ha

2:22 PM
Did you see Infinity War? I'm fairly certain Marvel is using Chris Evans to make me change my sexual orientation.

But this seems to be making colin uncomfortable, so I'll leave it.

@goodguy5 Just out of place. There's probably a different stack for it. I don't come in here to discuss programming oddities... there's a stack for that.

@Helwar Definitely. A fade-to-black scene in a group of dudes who are just gonna leave it as that is way different from a series or rolls and detailed descriptions coming from one person to a frightened other person

> Player: "I'm gonna roll to take off my clothes!"
> DM: "You know you can just... take off your clothes, right? You don't need to roll."
> Player: "I got a 1!"
> DM: "... as you attempt to take off your pants, your foot gets caught on the fabric and you stumble around the room before falling and knocking your head against the bed frame. You pass out."

Lol
DM: ”you know what? Fine! Roll to see which crickets are scared and which are horny”
player: got a 1
DM: They are all horny and follow you around
Player:Sweet!

2:30 PM
@ColinGross let's not get solopsistic :)

@NautArch I lived with a philosophy major and I work with philosophy grads now. I know better than to take that bait.

@ColinGross you've already suffered enough

@ColinGross I was only a philosophy minor

@SPavel Ha!

Wait? No one is going to mention the horny crickets?!

2:33 PM
@Hobo_warrior <crickets>

@Hobo_warrior Armoured katydid?

@Hobo_warrior we discuss reverse minotaurs, vampire hibrids and tentacle appendixes regularly... nothing surprises us

@NautArch So you dropped philosophy when you turned 18?

@SPavel :D

DM: “THROWING THE WORLD EATING DEMON INSIDE THE WIDOWS HOME IS NOT DIPLOMACY!”

2:35 PM
@SPavel I see what you did there.

@Hobo_warrior "Giratina, I choose you!"

Rude, Giratina is not a demon nor does it eat worlds.

@Yuuki no, but your mom is
BOOM!

y u so mean :(

@Hobo_warrior /me rolls eyes

2:37 PM
@Yuuki ;P

@Hobo_warrior Well, your mom is a wonderful person, you son of a nice lady.

Kids these days. I remember when "yo mamma" jokes where new.. then trite... then new again.

@ColinGross your momma jokes never get old. Unlike Your momma.

Hello, I want to ask an off-topic question for people who are Americans or from UK. The man on this video (Darren Till) is Brittish (according to the wikipedia page), however he speaks like a foreigner ... somehow like Germans, do you think he is really Brittish? youtube.com/watch?v=CM14WF0BRdE&t=4s

@BillalBEGUERADJ Isn't there a subreddit where you could ask that?

2:39 PM
@Yuuki yeah, right, they both kicked me out the house

That's... a weird question from someone I've never seen in this chatroom before.

I do not know where to ask, sorry @ColinGross

@hobo_warrior what?
@hobo_warrior idk, what u wanna talk about?
@hobo_warrior idk....
@hobo_warrior you a twit!
@hobo_warrior AM NOT!
@hobo_warrior @hobo_warrior shut up both of you!
GET OUT OF MY HEADDDD!

@Hobo_warrior Uh...you okay there, buddy?

2:43 PM
Thank you

@ACuriousMind Sometimes people spam chats?

@BillalBEGUERADJ Welcome to RPG.SE chat, and while this is unrelated, we are ahelpful bunch. Remember, you can be from one place, but live in another long enough to pick up an accent. Not the Wikipedia is always right, but if it (and other sources) say they are British, then they're British. But you can have an accent from somewhere else, too.

Thank you for the hints

also, Colin. we go off topic all the time. there are so many conversations about non magical, non familiar, non giant eagles

@ACuriousMind he doesn’t want to talk to u rn

2:44 PM
@BillalBEGUERADJ Look at Hugh Laurie's performance in House, MD

@goodguy5 go back to this baby eagles theory

Then listen to him in A Bit of Fry and Laurie or Blackadder
People can do different accents

@goodguy5 The eagles are definitely magical!

James Marsters
also, there are so many parts of Britain.

Tom Holland (newest Spider-Man) is also British, IIRC.

2:46 PM
Weird ... I will not feel shy for my foreign accent anymore

I don't think Britain has quite the accent diversity of the United States, but it definitely has a much higher accent diversity per square mile.

Watashi wa doko ni iru no idk, shikashi, hōbō watashi o koko ni okutta...

@BillalBEGUERADJ Did you ask on the Martial Arts Stack?

Shikashi, anata wa nani o awadateru ka.
??.

@Hobo_warrior Hanzo, is that you?

2:48 PM
They do not answer to such questions there (IMHO), besides, it is better to avoid talking to Martial Arts SE community

Hai!

i need healinG

@goodguy5 hai!
Nani ga okotte iru watashi wa kanto no tagu wa arimasen....??

donde esta la biblioteca

Hanzo Ult - Ryuu-ga, Wa-ga-te-ki-wo, Ku-ra-u. "Let the dragon consume my enemies."

Genji ult - Ryūjin no ken wo kūrae! "The dragon becomes me!"

2:51 PM
yo tengo a key
zug zug

tu vas a mexico?

@Yuuki HAI! JAPANESE!!
yo no ah lol

me not that kind of orc

espanol es muy bonito

@goodguy5 I'd hope it wouldn't have the accent diversity of the US. The US is within a couple percent of the landmass of the entirety of Europe (though it only has ~half the population)

2:56 PM
Yo no hablo esponyol

that's exactly my point. US only has a lot of accents because of its girth.

*espanyoal
DAMNIT FRICKING AUTO CORRECt

too no abblas espanyol?

@SimonH. Mass o menos
*mas

@Hobo_warrior perdon, senyor

2:58 PM
@goodguy5 Hey, rude.
Just because we have an obesity issue doesn't mean you can say that.

Yeah, we don't have the centuries of being split up into hundreds of little villages which end up mostly isolated from all but the surrounding villages. Lots of isolation builds accents/dialects, but the bits of travel that did occur helps make it so the different ways to speak don't diverge so far that they're not recognizable as the same language

@Yuuki uh, it's not an issue, weight is a commodity here?
we're like sumo wrestlers

@SimonH. Hahahaha hahahha senorita hahahah

What in tarnations is going on here

DO you folks use Variant Encumberance in 5e?

3:01 PM
@Hobo_warrior yo tengo 1,000 anyos, tu llamas mi "senyora"

@NautArch I've used it once, and it was enough of a pain that I never bothered again.

I realize that encumbrance is a form of game balance and somebody like the realism, but I hate dealing with encumbrance.
It's basically just dealing with a spreadsheet.

I've never been in a game that handles encumberence.

My philosophy was as long as it's not ridiculous, I'd rather not deal with it, like tracking cp and torches

It doesn't really provide meaningful interactions, imo.

3:04 PM
@NautArch no

@Yuuki I'll use it if I'm using a tool that'll keep track of everything for me and will apply penalties automagically; and if I'm GMing I'll make sure my players start with at least knowing how much weight they're carrying... but I don't bother much past character creation (only if they're doing things that are obviously taking advantage of it, like a 5 Str rogue carrying 10 battleaxes)

@NautArch Yes, we use a hyperrealistic version where players have to roll to determine random back pains from carrying so much. Also a creature's move speed is variable (base speed x current weight / max encumbrance). Yay realism!

@MikeQ is there a chiropractor domain for clerics too?

@Delioth 5 Str or not, if a rogue sees 10 battleaxes just lying around, he's stealing them

@SPavel He'll try... but 5 Str in Pathfinder roughly equates to like an Eagle. Cain't move with that much weight.

3:07 PM
@SPavel I guess a rogue wouldn't axe too many questions about free loot.

Not sure of 5e's relationship there, but probably still "not much"

I made a character once that got the muleback chords and a belt of ant haul

Did somebody say EAGLE?

@AVeryLargeBear That's a subdomain of Trickery :P

iirc, his carrying capacity was like 800 pounds.
but he dragged around a cart meant for like 4 horses

3:08 PM
@Delioth Not with that attitude

@goodguy5 If he's a minotaur, I think he can file a lawsuit for workplace discrimination.

so we can basically vaporize monsters below our level but carrying ten battleaxes is too far-fetched?

@Yuuki A rogue would also be upset about discrimination, since his workplace requires a lot of crimination

@SimonH. Depends. Where does the rogue store the battleaxes?

@SimonH. I mean, if you're at the bottom of a dungeon, taking ten battleaxes back to town is far fetching indeed.

3:11 PM
@MikeQ a backpack?

@MikeQ it's the name of an NPC in Seiken Densetsu 3! :P

@NautArch Yes, all but one game I play uses Var Encumbrance

@Helwar Is it? I don't remember... is it Hawk's friend who dies in the begining?

@GreySage I'm gonna cry, someone knows that game... T_T
yes it is

3:17 PM
@KorvinStarmast it really doesn't seem like you can hold much (Espeically for a fighter/paladin)

Everybody praises Secret of Mana, when the 3rd installment is so much greater

@Helwar SoM was released in English, which helps its English popularity. I played the fan-translation on good ol' ZSNES.

@GreySage I was more of a snes9x kind of guy.... still am. I'm playing the game with a friend now (not NOW NOW)
Kevin, Lise, Carlie :P

@NautArch Yeah, I've seen a few hacks that get around that, one of which is adding proficiency bonus X 10 pounds for martials to carry more stuff. My life cleric in my brother's campaign is, by default, slow due to wearing chain mail.

@MikeQ I'm much closer to it physically at the moment, but somehow I can't see it here.
Ha, now it loaded

3:22 PM
> the other thing is that it tries to differentiate between heavily armored fighters and lightly armored ones.

@KorvinStarmast I think i'll just skip it and if someone seems to be carrying way too much I'll bring it up.

@NautArch Yeah; dwarfs get a pass due to racial trait, all others who are not goliath or Orc PC don't.

It seems to be clever and not load when I have another window active.

@KorvinStarmast I've got a guy with 9 str, which means he can only carry 45 pounds.

If he's a monk, now worries.

3:24 PM
@KorvinStarmast bard

@NautArch So he is carrying 44 pounds of lutes, and a very skimpy outfit?

@NautArch Var Encumb punishes certain forms of min max, eh? :)

@NautArch This is what I recommend. If PCs start carrying around giant statues of solid gold for example I'll point something out. Or 5 suits of full plate. But otherwise I really don't want to deal with it.

@Rubiksmoose that's my thought as well. Carry what you want, but if it's absurd, i'm gonna say so. Like carrying another set of armor.

3:26 PM
@KorvinStarmast In a randome OneShot I played as a character, one of the other players had a goliath barbarian that threw around boulders when enraged, and the master decided he was strong enough to lift and throw down the cliff an owlbear

@Rubiksmoose Life hack: Instead of carrying 5 suits of full plate, put them on (smallest to largest set) so that you distribute the weight across your body

@SPavel hahahaha I'd love to see a player try that.

@NautArch Another suggested ruling is that "worn" armor does not count toward your carry weight is an option, just as it is for dwarves. Or, worn armor contribute only half of its weight to encumbrance as a reasonable approach

@SPavel actually, force your spellcaster to be your -tenser-floating-disk-slave

Speaking of encumbrance, I kinda wanna convince my DM to let us do some basebuilding with a caravan, a la Monster Hunter 4.

3:27 PM
Or just give them a portable hole

@Helwar The spellcaster can't cast any spells because he is also wearing 5 suits of armor

@KorvinStarmast Yeah, I just don't think it's worth the calculation. I"ll be reasonable in terms of what they carry, but hold a line on carrying big stuff.

@NautArch here's another idea: proficiency in Athletics ups the limits to x6 / x11 rather than the X5 X10 of basic
@NautArch Without having the roll20 char sheet self calculate for me, I'd be less interested in using it.

@KorvinStarmast bingo bango bongo.

3:31 PM
@NautArch I don't want to leave the jungle oh no no no no nooooooo

@NautArch that's a golf game. :) Here's another idea use Passive Athletics score to determine Encumbrance
Someone made a table that illustrates the problem at level 1

@Yuuki monster hunter cutscenes are pure gold.

@KorvinStarmast I see Crawford has taken the J.K. Rowling approach to maths

> monster hunter cutscenes are is pure gold

@Yuuki well, you're entitled to your opinion :/

3:36 PM
@KorvinStarmast Yeah, i'm not going to rebalance to do this. I'll just say yay/nay to carrying stuff at some point. Wearing Full plate but want to carry another set? No.

@NautArch KISS Principle at work. :)

@NautArch Want that guy's heavy crossbow? Sure. Want to loot their 12 heavy crossbows to sell them? Sorry but they're each 45 pounds

@KorvinStarmast and that's before you pick up treasure. D:

@SirCinnamon exactly.

@doppelgreener And that's the issue that strikes closest to home. spare capacity to carry treasure.

3:39 PM
This is why you have Forge Clerics.

that's why you need a burro or and/or a cart

At the end of the encounter, gather all of your loot and spend one hour to transmute the weapons and armor into coins.

@Yuuki Take out a jar of Sovereign Glue and roll the weapons and armor into a Katamari ball
Then just roll the ball into the next encounter

Tenser's Floating Disk IIRC can be cast as a ritual

3:41 PM
Suddenly the most valuable purchase is a wheelbarrow

I am, however, counting ammunition. Do you think it's reasonable to give a max ammunition carry?

Unless it is magical, I wouldn't count it

@NautArch More by space than by weight - arrows need to be stored so as not to damage the fletching. But if they buy a few quivers they can hold more?
Crossbow bolts and darts are a little different i suppose

@SirCinnamon that's kinda what i was thinking. While i'm forgoing the variatn encumbrance and I am forcing ammunition counts, I don't want it to be of zero value because you can carry 100 arrows.

@NautArch Yes, reasonable

3:44 PM
@NautArch 100 seems fine. Moreso if you allow some to be recovered or repaired after combat

@SirCinnamon 100 seems not fine to me :) THat's a lot of arrows for one person to carry, no? I am allowing recovery of 50% if they are available to be recovered.
If you're shooting someone at 300', you're not gonna get that back.

@NautArch Sorry i misread, i thought you were limiting to 100, and by fine i meant "not restrictive" because thats more arrows than youll use in a week

@NautArch Are you tracking the wizard's bat poop as well?

20 per quiver with a 50% chance of broken arrow seems good

My recommendation: two quivers max. Recover 1/2 expended after each fight.

3:46 PM
You smash the urn and discover a scroll; you attempt to translate it, and discover it's the spell Ray of Bees.

@SPavel bat poop has no cost, arrows do

@SirCinnamon Bat poop has weight and volume

@SPavel Component bag will contain everything they need for starting spells. New spells will need new components (they don't just magically appear, do they?)

And stink

@SPavel Accounted for by the component pouch, right?

3:47 PM
@KorvinStarmast that's what i'm leaning to.

@NautArch So why can wizards have one bag that they can buy and not worry about depleting, but archers can't?

@SPavel Because you spend arrows, you don't spend bat guano. You just need to have some.

@SPavel Because the rules of the game specifically point out that it works that way

Cinematic ruling: archers have limitless arrows until it becomes plot-critical.

@SirCinnamon Not an answer in a discussion about houseruling arrows.

3:47 PM
If it 'spends' it, then you can't use the component pouch (or focus)

@NautArch Are material components no longer expended in 5e?

@Yuuki in a good campaign, it will always become plot critical.

@SPavel Not all of them, no

@SPavel Nope (unless they say it does)

@SPavel They are not, with certain exceptions
If there is a GP cost specified on the component, it gets consumed

3:49 PM
@KorvinStarmast I think it also has to specify that it consumes the item
IIRC there are some spells with a cost that say 'consumes' and a few that don't

@AVeryLargeBear either/or. If a component has a fixed cost or is consumed, the component pouch/arcane focus can not be used.

@SPavel Having a houserule does not immediately invalidate all rules in a game. Archers already have a limit on their ammo (how many they are carrying) and wizards dont if the material isnt consumed

@AVeryLargeBear Yeah; do you have an example of one where the "it is consumed" does not have a GP cost associated with the component?

No, but i think there are ones with a GP cost, but that are not consumed.

@AVeryLargeBear Hmmm, I'll have to do some looking to see ....

3:50 PM
@SirCinnamon When creating a houserule, it is permissible to question existing adjacent rules. This is sort of implicit in the whole idea of "the game's rules do not work the way I wish them to" that underlies a houserule.

@Yuuki I personally go with "Archer's have unlimited ammo, unless there is a good reason they don't", like if they are in an extreme wilderness survival scenario, or have explicitly lost all their stuff.

@NautArch May I ask what you think this adds to the game?

@SPavel "some of the game's rules do not work the way I wish them to" to be more precise ;)

@Rubiksmoose It's more that I think I"d like a compromise between the Variant encumbrance and Carry Whatever You Want.

@GreySage How extreme is the wilderness survival scenario? Maybe you can whittle arrows from the bones of your enemies.

3:52 PM
@SPavel and feathers?

@SPavel If they haven't had the opportunity to go to a town in the last [insert time peroid].

When player's aren't worrying about direct combat, instead focusing on supply management is appropriate.

@KorvinStarmast "We want to fix some rules but these other rules are sacred and written in stone" is a weird attitude to have, but whatever

@NautArch I mean arrows are never going to be the thing that breaks encumbrance anyways since they weigh like 0.1 lbs (iirc)

@KorvinStarmast Use your existing arrows to shoot down birds and use their feathers to make more arrows to shoot more birds
Repeat for infinite arrows and infinite birds

3:53 PM
@KorvinStarmast Fletchings don't need to be feathers, any flexible material will do

@SPavel like robot making more robots

@SPavel If you want to craft arrow go for it, but it will take time. If that matters or not depends on the scenario

@Rubiksmoose He's houseruling that to be more restrictive - from a space sense rather than weight (is my understanding)

You could always attempt to improvise leaves for fletching.

@Rubiksmoose No, but the arrow users have lower strength, which means they would have been most limited in their carrying capacity.

@NautArch Ok let me rephrase the problem a bit. Do you think this will be more fun than just ignoring it? As a player I HATE keep track of fiddly things when I could be shooting something in the face or roleplaying. To me, adding this is basically a fee I have to pay to actually get to the fun parts. Unless you think it really adds something compelling I wonder why include it at all.

@SirCinnamon Yes, I'm looking at the whole idea of "carrying stuff". Variant Encumbrance overly limiting, and standard seems overly accepting.

One of the fun things about 3.5 was the way you could have a very strong archer use Large, Huge, etc bows or crossbows (ranged weapons did not have handedness so they were not impossible to wield at bigger sizes)
So a buff fighter could whip out a ballista
Of course you could also just get huge and have a huge weapon but that is boring

@SPavel too much RAW and too little RAI in there :P

@Rubiksmoose Hmm. You raise a good point, but I still like the idea of a counter-balance to the ranged attacker benefits being limited ammunition.

3:56 PM
@Helwar There's no reason to play 3.5 unless you let RAW take you to new and exciting places

@Rubiksmoose Managing my Carry Weight in Skyrim was the most frustrating and un-fun parts of the game.

You should then decide whether you want those places to be part of your game; colossal bows make my game more awesome rather than less

resource management can build tension.

@Yuuki that's cute. but i was horrified at them firing broken arrows. i'm going to assume they're not completely insane and it was only the fletching that was broken.

@NautArch But a battle rarely last more than say 12 rounds. that is, at most like 24 arrows. Does that really need balancing? Ranged attackers aren't even viable unless you really invest in it. So why punish them?

3:57 PM
@SimonH. exactly. There may be places they go (eventually) where getting more may be difficult.

@Rubiksmoose Punishing non-casters is at the core of the game

I'm currently in a campaign using houseruled guns and all different types of ammo, which is fun when I'm trying to save a certain type of ammo for a certain type of situation.

@Rubiksmoose one battle yes. But time spent in an area without access to resources may turn that into a week of battles or more.

They must not have the nice things

3:58 PM
@NautArch So what happens when they run out then?

beautiful

@Rubiksmoose fisticuffs

@Rubiksmoose that adds an extra layer of strategy. rangers also carry melee weapons.

@doppelgreener Dual wield that with this:

@Rubiksmoose if they haven't planned well, and don't carry another optin, then they're out of ammo.

3:59 PM
@SimonH. How is that strategy
