4:00 PM
i'm not sure myself

@Axoren That is my understanding yeah.

@Yuuki They never make logical sense with their progressions. It's like they do concept art and whatever looks like itll sell merch they keep and base the typing off of that

@DavidCoffron To be fair, Mimikyu is the best Pokemon.

@doppelgreener This is the "swear" word from that phrase: jisho.org/search/%E3%82%84%E3%82%8D%E3%81%86

@Yuuki Disagree, but not enough to fight over it xD

4:01 PM
@Rubiksmoose so it's like sarcastic "pal"

Water, Ice
Fire, Steel
Grass, ???

The primary meaning is :

1. guy; fellow; chap; buddy
@doppelgreener Sounds like it.

nvm, Steel doesn't work against water.

@Axoren Ground?

Water/Fairy, Fire/Steel, Grass/Fighting.
Since Water>Fire>Grass>Water, but Fighting>Steel>Fairy>Fighting.

4:03 PM
Water/Dark, Fire/Fighting, Grass/Psychic

iirc Fighting>Ghost>Psychic>Fighting also?

That's four types though. wait i can't count

fighting doesn't hit ghost @MikeQ

Fighting > Rock > Flying
Fire > Grass > Water

@DavidCoffron I veto solely based on "Fire/Fighting".

4:04 PM
maybe it was Fighting>Dark>Psychic>Fighting then

Only problem is that Flying interacts with Grass

@Yuuki You can shift the secondary typings down lol

And Water Flying ends up 2x Weak to Lightning

Water/Fighting, Fire/Psychic, Grass/Dark -or- Water/Psychic, Fire/Dark, Grass/Fighting

You absolutely want to avoid Fire/Flying because Stealth Rock suuuuuuuuuucks.

4:06 PM
Dark starters make it impossible to have Normal enemies at the beginning of the game
Because the Dark starter just ignores them
And grinds forever

Huh?
Dark-types take normal damage from Normal moves.

@Axoren Dark and Ghost are different types

You're thinking of Ghost.

nvm, I'm thinking Ghost
Yeah

Also, the subtype usually pops up in the final evolution, not in its first evolution.

4:07 PM
And we already have Grass/Ghost (as third evolution of Rowlet)

Unless you're Bulbasaur, poor guy.

@DavidCoffron Yeah, the issue with the double-triangle starters is that it doesn't account for other weaknesses/strengths with other types
You could have a starter that is 4x to 8x weak to a certain type

@MikeQ I don't see any off the bat with those triangles

Oh no. Grass/Dark has 4x bug
but the other one is fine

4:08 PM
@DavidCoffron My nerd friends and I used to make custom pokemons and we would run into this issue sometimes. I don't remember specific details now.

@DavidCoffron Bug doesn't have a lot of powerful moves.

@Yuuki It does now. (Leech Life is really strong)

Although it does kinda suck to be 4x weak to U-Turn.

In trying to avoid the micro management of creature summoning, I am trying to get a "Stampede" spell to fit.

@DavidCoffron They buffed it?
I remember that it used to be super weak.

4:09 PM
Thanks to @Axoren for the inspiration

@Yuuki Reworked it entirely: 80 Base Power now

@KorvinStarmast +1

@DavidCoffron Daaang.
Honestly, I think that's a good thing. Bug never really had much in the way of good offensive moves (which was part of why Psychic was so OP in Gen 1) and Megahorn is a physical move.

WTF, why is Dark/Ghost such a good defensive type?

Wait, Leech Life is physical too?
wtf gamefreak

4:11 PM
Only weak to Fairy.
@Yuuki It was recently changed.

@KorvinStarmast Is there any precedent in 5e for "fails by X or more" may be an alternative to the "fiddly bit"

Don't remember what it was before
But now it's worth looking at

@Axoren Problem is the only dark/ghosts are spiritomb and sableye

@DavidCoffron Sprite is one of about three of those.
Sprite SLeep.

(although mega sableye can wall pretty well)

4:12 PM
@DavidCoffron wew, wondertomb

@Yuuki But then you could just blaze through the game with the starter

@DavidCoffron I recall a site with a very comprehensive list of type-combination strength-weakness multiplier charts

@DavidCoffron I can't think of any spells offhand that use it. There is an alternate rule in the DMG that applies it to saves though IIRC.

@SPavel You could always blaze through the game with the starter.

@DavidCoffron target must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for 1 minute. If its saving throw result is 5 or lower, the poisoned target falls unconscious for the same duration, or until it takes damage or another creature takes an action to shake it awake.

4:13 PM
@MikeQ Yeah, I use it: pokemondb.net/type

@Yuuki But like, more.

I don't see how much more.
It's really only a thing for when you're battling your rival.

The rival having a type advantage is a big issue
Because you fight the rival a lot, usually when your team is weakened

And even then, only when you both have the final evolution.

4:13 PM
@DavidCoffron That's to save versus Sprite Sleep. There are one or two other things that do the same thing, but Sprite is the only one I recall right now.

@SPavel If you watch speed runs, they have to do a lot of stuff to deal with that

@DavidCoffron I do not watch speed runs

@SPavel And by the time you both have the final evolution, it's already trivial to deal with.

@KorvinStarmast Yeah, Maybe use that for the trample damage instead

But I also box my starter ASAP

4:14 PM
@SPavel They're actually kind of fun (the old games, new ones take 3-4 hours)

Who needs boring OP starter Pokemon when you can dominate with rats

@SPavel You cold-hearted jerk! (joking!)

I like using randomizer to shuffle starters

The old Title for this lol

@Axoren But its face is a butt

Butt its face is a butt*

@DavidCoffron Yeah I saw it and just sighed.

Dangit, I still can't find any double triangles without a 4x

@Rubiksmoose How much of that question is even the original question?
@DavidCoffron I remember there was a romhack that included a Radiation type

4:19 PM
double triangles makes me think of Triple Triad from FFVIII

Can you make a triangle with that somehow?

@Axoren As much as we could leave lol

Let me just write a python script. It will be easier

I linked one above
Honestly, looking at that code, it sucks.

Haha
Mine would too though

4:21 PM
It works, though

@DavidCoffron Aah, the browser is messing with me, will edit that good idea of yours in late.

@Axoren Nuclear is super effective against everything (except steel). Not sure that's what we want (it's also super effected by everything)

@DavidCoffron You can mix it with a type that has weaknesses to make those weaknesses normals

@DavidCoffron It's annoying because normally you'd shore up the starter type with the most weaknesses (Fire, IIRC) with a type that has a lot of resistances (Steel), but Fire/Steel is 4x to Ground. And Ground is probably the most common offensive type in competitive battling.

Instead of doing two triangles, we could just make it so the weak one gets a strength against the other (it would be easier)

4:25 PM
nvm

Like we give the fire starter the ground type so grass is neutral

Make them all Sub-dragon
Dragon > Each of the 3

Or we could make the subtypes super effective against the base type instead of the subtype
like water poison (to hit grass)

@DavidCoffron Probably the best option.
Or at least the one with the smallest amount of headaches.

Poison's a good option because weak to Fire.
nvm
Most things with poison are, but not because of the poison type

4:28 PM
wew grass/poison or bug/poison

Fire/Electric, Water/Poison, Grass
not fire electric, thats bad lol

Grass/Rock?
Granted, that's 4x weak to Ice.
But I don't think Ice is that common, IIRC.
Then again, every time I get a Water starter, I try to pick up Ice Beam.

Fire/Electric, Water/Bug, Grass/Electric ;;-_-
This is hard

Fire/Psychic, Water/Poison, Grass/Rock

Misremembering, Ice is not super-effective against Rock.
So Grass/Rock could work.

4:30 PM
Fire/Electric, Water/Bug, Grass/Rock?

Fire Electirc 4x weak to ground

It's Steel that's 4x effective against Grass/Rock.

Steel is neutral against grass

@DavidCoffron Ability: Levitate?

Grass Rock is safe
For quick lookup
But my cycle doesn't work bc rock resists poison
Fire/Psychic, Water/Poison, Grass/Dark ~ Fire hits Grass hits Water hits Fire ~ Poison hits Grass who's Dark hits Psychic hits Poison
Nope Grass/Dark is 4x to bug

4:33 PM
I have a perfect solution.

Dangit

> Starter #1: Dragon/Ghost
> Starter #2: Dragon/Ghost

Water/Bug is even with Fire and Grass
Grass/Rock is even with Fire and Water, but not Bug.
Fire/?

> Starter #3: Dragon/Ghost

4:34 PM
brilliant lol

They're all weak to each other.
I call it "The Circle of Suck".

Dark/Ghost for all three starters
What's the worst type combo?

@Axoren Fire/Ice makes that work
Water/Bug, Grass/Rock, Fire/Ice

@DavidCoffron Are we calling the last one "Robert Frost"?

(but 4x rock)

4:36 PM
I think Dark/Rock would be a schadenfreude type
7 weaknesses, 2x Ground
4x Fighting

@Axoren (watch language please)
[thumbs up]

@DavidCoffron Fire/Ice takes 2x Water
Only one that is still weak to the original cycle

Wait, they are supposed to lose their weaknesses? I thought they just needed a new offensive strength

I'm expecting pokemon to make up more types. Double Fire. Negative Water!

Meowth should be a Normal/Money

4:41 PM
Well, my vision was that the starters wouldn't be completely gimped against their rival type and ideally avoid 4x weaknesses.

Math type pokemon.

A Fighting/Money type would have access to the Move "Rigged Fight" where you can force a Pokemon to 'faint'.

Dark/Money-types could fund political campaigns without limit.

Money type pokemon require venture capital to fight for you.

Grass/Money

4:46 PM
Finally Got It! Fire/Psychic, Grass/Ghost, Water/Poison

Grows on Trees
@DavidCoffron Immune to Pallet Town

Fire > Grass > Water > Fire

It's so weird how big baby eagle is now.

Also, you're going to let your Professor give you a dead pokemon?

Poison > Grass/Ghost > Psychic > Poison
@Axoren It only gets ghost later

4:47 PM
You're going to kill your Pokemon?
I don't think I've ever seen a Sub-ghost

@Yuuki Let me test the streaming capability of Swedisch train internet.

And here is a list of sub ghosts: bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/…

Oooh, yes, it's huge, and now somewhat distinctly of a similar shape as the parent.

@Anaphory And it's featheres are coming in

@NautArch I was expecting to zoom out and see a face.

@Axoren Roll WIS save for frightened.
1d20

@DavidCoffron Still somewhat fuzzy, buy yes!

Nope still scared.

4:52 PM
@NautArch I use Indomitable.
1d20

I'm not afraid.
shifty eyes

Insight against deception
1d20

1d20+0.5
I got a 20.5!

5:00 PM
I don't know why those links didn't work
Hold on

@DavidCoffron Line breaks in a message break markdown

IMO it's time to kill the grass/water/fire starter
Do some cooler ones

@SPavel Agreed, but I don't think they ever will

@SPavel Sure. But that doesn't mean you have to kill them. Poor Pokemon.

5:04 PM
I'd like more than one pure flyer without a normal or other type tacked on, especially considering the only current instance is a legendary.

@Rubiksmoose Nah kill them all #TeamPlasma

@CTWind Pure flyer would be interesting

@SPavel how about ice/ice/ice for cooler starters

Some kind of air elemental creature

@DavidCoffron Maybe they'll take the opportunity with the move to Switch to do a major revamp. But.... rumors kind of suggest otherwise if they mean anything at all.

5:04 PM
@MikeQ dude that would be rockin
Lance shows up with his Dragonites acting all high and mighty

@SPavel no, rock/rock/rock would be rockin

Aaaaaand they're iced

There's some type combos that I think still need to be hit as well.
AFAIK there's no ground/fighting or ghost/fighting

I just want more Eevee forms...

@Rubiksmoose I doubt that will happen. They've done all of the primarily "special" types and none of the primarily "physical" types
Maybe a dragon, but thats all I expect

5:07 PM
This is the most beautiful corn I have ever seen. It is a Native American variety called I believe 'Glass Gem Corn' and yes it really does grow like that. I can't stop admiring it :)

@DavidCoffron don't break my heart like that.

This would be a fantastic Pokemon
Just, literally that corn, no other design element

Grass/Rainbow type

Doesn't grass tend to lean physical? I guess it's well balanced. Razor leaf/vine whip are kind of signatures, but solarbeam/magical leaf/giga drain (and pals) exist.

Don't Grass types typically have bad physical attack?

5:08 PM
I can't remember where I saw the break down but in 1 gen the primary moves broke down physical/special types and all the eevees have been of the special

I like to load up my Ivysaur with special moves, if I have one

All this is reminding me that I have to finish up the last few additions to my living dex and I do not appreciate it lol.

Bulbapedia says fully evolved grass types tend to have higher attack than sp attack. bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Grass_(type)

Leech Seed/Sleep Power/Poisonpowder/something

(not by a lot)

5:09 PM
gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/696959-pokemon-x/68340362 Post #3 says the same thing, but this isn't where I got it
pokemondb.net/pokebase/40995/… It was gen III (which I never played) but here you go

Heyyyy, I just passed 10k points!

Also they definitely stole StackExhchanges design elements for that page

HA! Just got an email from Jetblue with subject "Beach, please."

@CTWind Congratulations!

@CTWind I was hoping Bulbapedia would be on strange bulbs and other heritage plants.

5:13 PM
@DavidCoffron Every website is the same these days.

@SPavel They even have a Meta, wth?

@DavidCoffron Meta is older than Stack
Even the earlier proto-forums had a section for discussing site issues
I think even usenet had them

@SPavel Yeah but it formatted the same way

There's a handful of Stack Overflow copycat Q&A engines out there.
IIRC Stack Overflow Inc accepts them. They can't do anything about that. But, most of those other engines are busy making Stack Overflow look good -- and making Stack Overflow do work to keep up & remain competitive & keep on improving lest they get left in the dirt.

How to cast Hellish Rebuke into a Ring of Spell Storing? just got 4 answers posted within 40 second of each other lol.

5:24 PM
@Rubiksmoose I was delayed because work question,. grrrr.

@NautArch Same. I was in the middle of answering. But no longer, you all have it well and covered lol

Weird, I got an answer accepted from a question that was asked a year ago.

@NautArch neat!

@NautArch Every year I go through my stacks and accept questions

@SPavel This should work to find questions you haven't accepted answers to btw: rpg.stackexchange.com/…

5:31 PM
@Rubiksmoose it bugs me that I have a question there
it was that signpost

@SPavel i still have some questions that i don't have an answer i'd accept

@NautArch same.

@NautArch Indeed, there are such questions for me as well
But it's more like, oh, I didn't accept an answer to this one last time, let's see here

@Rubiksmoose heh,guess you liked that answer now :D
Interested to see how the loading property question gets answered. I've got an answer, but it's not based on anything, so i'll sit this one out.

@NautArch yessir! read it over again. I find often that in contentious cases that letting time pass often helps me see clearly good answers. Plus, I had already upvoted it. So past me also liked it at some point lol

5:37 PM
@Rubiksmoose always trust past you
or never trust past you
one of the two

5:49 PM
Well I did my answer-selecting purge (including a self answered question that I forgot to mark lol). Still have 4 unselected though :-/
@NautArch Sit this one out he says lol

@Rubiksmoose can't. help. myself.

I'm hoping spav accepts my answer next year

@NautArch To answer your comment, yes I don't think it's all that common that all they want is the +5 init, unless they somehow don't have extra attack, meaning the crossbow expert isn't helping much in the first place
but you never know, someone might have thought "whoa +5 init?". 5 is a huge number in 5e

That loading property Q needs a better title. I'm just not sure what atm.

@Sdjz hmm, that's a good point. I'll add it as an option.

6:00 PM
@Rubiksmoose yes while editing I thought the same but couldn't decide. "Does crossbow expert also apply to Speed Factor Initiative?" "What exactly does ignoring the loading property entail?"
neither seems great
@NautArch alright let's comment cleanup :)
@NautArch Now I'm just nitpicking but in this situation the alert seems "scritly superior" rather than "equivalent"

@Sdjz cleaning complete, thank you citizen.
@Sdjz Only if we know there's no extra attack.
and if they don't plan on firing within 5' of an enemy.

oh right, my bad

@Sdjz but worth talking about. so i did. grazie!

@NautArch so about that wish question. I don't like the old question it is duped to. It looks too broad to me.
What do you think?

First game of Fate done and... well, it went ok I guess.

6:06 PM
Also curse you because I was literal seconds away from submitting my answer :P

@Rubiksmoose I think it's a dupe because it's broad. "How does the Wish spell work with spells that interact with material components"
in fact, i think i might edit out their examples from the question.

I think the main issue we had was the sense of rushedness and the difficulty of choosing aspects and fitting approaches to what we were doing.

it's not relevant to the actual question and the broader question is more useful.
do you agree before I do?

@NautArch hmmm I removed it from the title at least to make it more manageable.
@NautArch maybe? still thinking

@Rubiksmoose heh, i think it works :)
and think it's a dupe. not sure how it isn't. same question, same answer.

6:12 PM
@NautArch So would wish obviate the figurine entirely or wqould it provide one for you that you had to carry around per the spell?

@Rubiksmoose well, now you've got me rethinking the dupe...
i guess reopen it because this is different due to the material requirement and the line contingency ends on you if its material component is ever not on your person.
I'd probably say Wish gives you the component, but that's a ruling not a rule.

I'd say wish removes the statuette
it is three levels higher of a slot, after all

that works, too

@Rubiksmoose . the title of the question and the actual asked question are different

eithe rway, would be a mean move to let them cast it, then say "no statuette, spells over"

6:18 PM
and mutually exclusively so

Reading the original Ravenloft module. Strahd has 28 capes in his bedchamber closet. Twenty. Eight. Capes. 😂 #lifegoals #undeathgoals
Me as a PC: I try on all 28 capes. ALL OF THEM.

Do capes stack

You have to have the right cape for the right moment.

@goodguy5 fixed my title to make it clearer.
@NautArch hahaha yes that would be mean. (also not following the RAW IMO)

perfect

6:21 PM
@Rubiksmoose and not necessarily against Wish...
we fought a pirate king last night who had his Kraken, and found zero treasure. Don't know if it was GM messing with us or if there was no treasure.
Also pretty sure the DM messed up with the Kraken. I hit it for about 160hp on my first turn against it and 'dropped it'. But Kraken's have a lot more HP than that.

Hm, the largest real world bee is 39mm long (1.5 inches)
That is big
Interestingly, the largest bumblebee and hornet are the same size
The largest wasp (tarantula wasp) slightly bigger at 50mm

@NautArch That is a terrifying hit.

This has been bee facts, your daily dose of bee facts injected right into your soft mammal skin.
3

@SPavel Unsubscribe.

@Rubiksmoose 3 Level three divine smites plus GWM.

6:29 PM
:)
@NautArch Wowza.

5d8+1d10+18 per hit.
sadly, no crits.

@Rubiksmoose We are sorry to bee you go! By unsubscribing, you'll miss out the latest buzz about bees.

This is my paladin in full plate with a cloak of the manta ray. Another water dwelling thing came up and I flew over it on my pegasus and did an air-to-sea missile impression (and a 4th level smite for the final creature standing) to end it.
But yeah, no inspiration for that.

@SPavel I'm sorry to be missing out on such a queentessential service

@Rubiksmoose Apology accepted. You've been resubscribed to bee facts. Did you know that bees are the world's leading producers of both honey and nightmares? You will soon.

6:35 PM
*beesubscribed?

@SPavel I for one would bee happy to see more bee related tabloids

@SPavel thank you for these bee facts. Ow

@doppelgreener It's been a pleasure.

6:51 PM
These facts sure are the bee's knees

@doppelgreener can diamond mods see who is flagging, in this case, a comment? I only ask because I always wonder to specify if I want a comment removed from my answer if I should specify that is is me who is speaking. But I also kind of assumed you could see the flagger. But now I'm curious.

@KorvinStarmast I almost got the spell. In exchange for 1000 gp of material components. >_>

Here's an interesting question - why is "secret Nazi moon base" a thing but not "secret Soviet Venus base"? The Soviets had a lot of successful Venus missions.
time to roll up the ol' writing sleeves

They're better at hiding it because it's further away.

In the grim darkness of the 22nd century, after the Earth done gone got blowed up, we have Nazi Moon, Commie Venus, and Capitalist Mars

7:03 PM
I did Nazi that coming

Or maybe we can keep the Earth and just give it to someone neutral idk

Also, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus lets you explore the Nazi's attempt to settle Venus.

@Maximillian Hans, we've got skulls on our space suits. Are we the baddies?

@Maximillian Warframe: "Is this a crossover episode?"

@Yuuki The one with the same cat but he gets money instead of a cleaver is funnier imo

8:24 PM
Quick 3.5e question, my search into dominate person didn't come up with anything. If a Vampire lays dominate person(Su) on a PC, and then the Vampire is slain, does the dominate end, or does the dominate continue until the next day (when the "refresh" fails to happen). Anyone? Maybe I need to ask on main site.

Neat
@KorvinStarmast AFB but I do not know of any rule that effects created by a creature stop when the creature has been killed (aside from a specific rule for called/summoned creatures, and the existence of this specific rule may prove that the general rule does not exist)
The vampire, while dead, would obviously not be able to issue new commands, but as far as I know, the victim would continue executing its last order

@doppelgreener There's no specific phrase that's traditional; the Bahá'í Faith doesn't usually go in for that kind of ritual. But the Declaration is a joyous occasion (it's the anniversary of the night the Báb first announced His Mission to Mullá Husayn) while the Ascension is sombre (the anniversary of the night Bahá'u'lláh passed away), so that would inform the greetings exchanged on those days.

@Rubiksmoose we can always see for custom comments. for other types of comments there's a bit more work involved in checking who flagged it.
@BESW Thank you. :)

@doppelgreener Thanks! That makes sense. :)

@doppelgreener However, Alláh-u-Abhá is used as a catch-all greeting/farewell; it means roughly "God is all-glorious" or "All glory to God;" the transliteration might be "God is Godly," but that... loses a lot of the nuance.
