I mean, that's what I'm doing on Rebrickable and Bricklink: figuring out how to pay X bucks for not an entire set, but a small subset of it.

In the end it's quite typically the same price.

I'm currently finishing up my restaurant moc then disassembling everything: the cinema, the haunted house, my moc, maybe the sopwith. I need to gauge how much storage space I actually have left, as well as make room for new display things

No idea. But the whole point of the large set was to appeal to people who were not into LEGO at all. So maybe the same is true of the smaller set. VW lovers, not just LEGO lovers, are after it.

@RegDwigнt When I started putting my lego into my storage bins, that was also when I finally got around to parting out all my old SW kits that had been on display. That made such a huge difference that I had to rethink my whole system before I'd even started buying bins yet.

Yeah that's a different problem. Why even have those unopened sets? Set up a BL store and sell them.

I have 22 unopened sets, excluding one unopened CMF that I'm saving for Christmas. I will build two or three of the unopened ones, give some of them to the kids, and the rest I'm going to sell.

This way, I can sort of contain myself because I know if I want to build, there's always a fine selection I can choose from, so I don't need to buy new stuff.

I mean, that was always my whole point: collecting as many parts in as many colors as possible so I could build anything at all in any color at all.

I mean, yeah, I keep some sets aside for building later. Or buy some sets for parts, then decide that I don't need those parts right now. But eventually I forget I had that box of parts, and I just build without it, or accumulate those parts elsewhere, and then the kit becomes old. And more valuable to sell than open.

A modular is also good because a lot of them are basically dollhouses. You can build a basic "home" and then spend a lot of time furnishing it.
