Corpus took the #IceBucketChallenge @PlayWarframe. See how they did. @GearboxSoftware, @Bungie, and @Halo, ur turn! http://bit.ly/1pNPedU

@MBraedley Those shuttles are so dangerous! So many things can wrong.
Also, that is easily one of the best episodes in all of Trek.

@Wipqozn Especially when you have a sly Cardassian "fixing" things

@MBraedley He's just a tailor, silly.

Q: How does time pass in Euro Truck Simulator 2?

NoneOfYourBusinessWhen you take a credit, it is due daily. So how exactly does time pass in ETS2 and does the method how it passes affect delivery offers too? Does it only pass when driving or also when you are chilling in the menu? Since I cannot spot a clock in the menu, this is not obvious to figure out.

Q: How do I unstack the Morningstar effect?

NiteCyperThe Morningstar's voice (and critical effect) can transfer ("merge") with other weapons during the course of usual weapon manipulation (e.g., switching and reloading). The voice can be annoying, and if the Morningstar is switched to multiple times, the effects can stack multiple times, amplifying...

You can preorder Beyond Earth on Steam right now, and get some exoplanet maps as free DLC.
I suspect these maps will become paid DLC in the future.

FAE
Is there not going to be a Beyond Earth CE? :(

@Lazers 1 minute per second?

Beyond Earth comes out soonish, doens't it?
asks google
Late October.
It's so soon.
I haven't been following it at all, and it hasn't been announced long.
I didn't think we'd see it until next year.

FAE
I was hoping they'd have a nice, boxed CE like they did for Civ V but I haven't heard anything about one. :(

If they do have one I wouldn't be surprised if it was only released in Europe.

FAE
4:24 PM
@Wipqozn Well I'm fine with that. :P

Strategy games are a lot more popular in Europe than NA, or at least there's a perception that there is.

To any coding style guides that suggest putting the opening brace { at the end of the line instead of on a new line, I hereby notify you that you are wrong and make reading code much harder.
3

the age of wonders 3 devs only released phyiscal copies in europe for exactly this reason

FAE
@Wipqozn The market's also currently shifting to digital, so. Also I didn't know there was a physical version here, neat.

@FAE You guys even got a CE.

4:27 PM
Of course, that's how the go language does it, which annoys me because I want to start using it for personal projects

NA got nothing, because we're all dumbos that only want to play fps games.
I blame Microsoft for the image of North American gamers all being stupid frat boys who only play PFS games. Them and their damn mountain dew and doritos!

FAE
@Wipqozn Aw, man, seriously, Germany got the figurine edition, and the Netherlands, where the devs are based, didn't?

Mountain Dew isn't even good.
It tastes so bad.

FAE
There's a store here in town now that sells a bunch of American food and brands and stuff
they have Mountain Dew

@FAE ow upsetting.

FAE
4:31 PM
I was super happy

@FAE You are a gross.

Oh good, I fixed my typo before anyone commented on it.

@Wipqozn Dammit I was hoping you wouldn't catch this

FAE
@OrigamiRobot whatevs yo
The Mountain Dew here in the NL tastes different
they're not allowed to put as much sugar and caffeine in

Differently terrible.

4:32 PM
By the way, here's a free answer to a Shadowgate remake question that I'm sure will be asked on the site: Hit the skull (aka the optional hint system) to make it shut up with the annoying random non-sequitur chatter.

Is Shadowgate actually worth playing?

@Sterno Well, I keep calling it a remake, but pretty much every puzzle in the game has been redone.
Oh, I do recommend turning on the classic Shadowgate music, though.

Puzzle games can be pretty shit though, sometimes. I'm guessing from you talking about it a lot in here that you think it's actually good though?

I can't even think of a soda I like less than Mountain Dew/Mellow Yellow

@FAE isn't it that here we actually use sugar? Instead of corn syrup

4:35 PM
@Sterno I liked the original Shadowgate and the new one puts a new spin on things.

FAE
@KevinvanderVelden Hm, maybe, not sure.
@OrigamiRobot if you want to hate me more, I don't like root beer or creme soda

I've never actually had cream soda

By the way... in Shadowgate, be prepared to die a lot. There's a reason shadowgate.com has a death counter on it.

FAE
@OrigamiRobot or vanilla coke

OK, now you're just being ridiculous.

FAE
4:36 PM
taste is too sweet for me
I do like cherry coke though

@FAE I understand what those words mean individually, but not in that order.

@Wipqozn Which typo did you supposedly fix? Because I still see one. :P

@FAE As long as it's not cheery coke.

FAE
@OrigamiRobot :P

Best sodas: Cheerwine, Cherry-Lemon Sun Drop, IBC Root Beer, Vanilla Coke/Pepsi, Baja Blast

4:38 PM
@Fluttershy I called it Mountain Drew.

I WILL FIGHT ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE

I like Cherry Coke, but I can only drink sugar-free now... so I tend to drink Cherry Coke Zero.

@OrigamiRobot The only Soda I like are Orange and Spite/7-up.

@OrigamiRobot Those are two different sodas with two different flavors. You are not allowed to group them!

fights @Wipqozn

4:40 PM
@Powerlord after reading gummy bear reviews. anything sugar free is terrifying

@Sterno Nope, they are the exact same flavor: Bad

@Wipqozn You are full of spite.

@Wipqozn Ah, gotcha

@Sterno I'll let you in on a secret, I always

@FAE Cherry Coke/Pepsi are the most inferior of the cherry sodas!

4:41 PM
Go on.

@MBraedley With proper indentation, I prefer it that way.

@Wipqozn Cherry 7-Up is a solid choice.

@Rapitor You know it's interesting seeing how the product page for that product lies, too.
Something is either "sugar free" or has "Corn syrup" as an ingredient... can't be both as they're mutually exclusive.

@FEichinger Yeah, and this code is (mostly) properly indented, but I still find it harder to read. I find the edges of code blocks are harder to pick out.

If someone was forcing me to drink flat soda and I could choose, I'd choose Sprite.

4:44 PM
@Wipqozn Clearly you do not always finish sentences.

@Sterno Oh, sorry. What I was going to say was that

@OrigamiRobot Silly robot, you don't drink soda

So, I bought a bunch of TV Dinner type things at the store yesterday. I promptly forgot to bring any of them to work today so now I have to go out and get something.

I am my own worst enemy.

4:45 PM
@MBraedley Sure I do, i am a robot.

@OrigamiRobot *people don't drink soda

It doesn't help that the ATM was removed from our building yesterday, too... I liked using that one because this is an access controlled building (with security guards in the lobby) so it's less likely that someone tampered with it.

@Rapitor I have tried eating enough sugar free candy to feel the pain, but it doesn't happen with sugar free soda

@MBraedley As long as the closing brace has its own line, and the block's token is aligned with it, it's usually easier to figure out what the block does.

@FEichinger For some people, not for me.
You don't have the nice delineation (except for indenting) for where the block begins.

4:48 PM
@Blem it's the ingredient, lycasin, that's the problem. other sugar subsitutes aren't as bad.

@MBraedley It was done in old programming books to save page lines, unfortunately I started doing it and now anything else looks weird to me.

@MBraedley Well, if properly indented, it would be the next line upwards that is aligned with the closing brace.
That is, of course, assuming you don't have multiple lines of conditions and the like.
Or a block of raw string output ...

@FEichinger Yeah, but the opening brace doesn't stand out if it's not on a line by itself.

I prefer the { at the end of the line, not on the next line

@MBraedley It doesn't need to be, if you know it has to be at the end of that line.
You don't need the opening brace to identify the start of the block.
That is, unless you have a freeform block. In which case that should have the opening brace on its own line, because it has no token.

FAE
4:51 PM
@OrigamiRobot I agree with this. Flat Sprite is probably the least offensive tasting of flat pops.

@MBraedley when I worked in android it was the standard as in even auto-formatting did it, and the android dev guidelines even says to do it that way... wanted to stab myself

@FEichinger I like to be able to quickly look for the start of a block, and for me, the easiest way to do that is to find the opening brace

sounds like you don't indent your code correctly

Q: Sejuani vs Leona Support

Shelby115Yesterday, I decided to mix things up a bit in teambuilder and try a irregular support. I decided on sejuani since she has a little bit of CC (Q and Slows and after Lv6 Ultimate), I thought she'd be able to peel moderately while still dishing out damage. Pros Can deal more damage than Leona At...

@FAE I've always thought Mountain Dew was the better tasting flat soda. Mostly because fresh Mountain Dew is already flat, but... Yeah.

FAE
4:55 PM
@Fluttershy it is not and flat Mt. Dew is bleh

@Blem I do. It's still easier to find a single character on a line than following indenting by eye.

@FAE Mountain Dew is great.
Sadly, Canada's version doesn't have caffiene.

FAE
@Frank Yeah, I've had it in Canada and I was sadface

@Frank Unless your get the energy drink kind

4:57 PM
@MBraedley There's an energy drink Mountain Dew?

You were sadface because it was Mountain Dew

Pray tell me more.

Which isn't as popular as other options like Monster and Red Bull

@Frank Amp
Amp is delicious.

@OrigamiRobot That's not Mountain Dew.

4:57 PM
It tastes like old candy.

@Frank It is a different name, but it is Mountain Dew with caffeine

FAE
I try not to drink too much pop in general nowadays though.

Amp Energy (or simply Amp) is an energy drink brand produced and owned by PepsiCo. At the time of its introduction in 2001, Amp Energy was initially distributed under the Mountain Dew soft drink brand. Since 2009, it has been produced and labeled under its own stand-alone trademark name. The beverage is packaged in both 16-ounce and 24-ounce cans, and is sold in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. As of 2009, Amp Energy was the number four energy drink brand in the U.S. in terms of overall retail sales. == Flavors == The original formulation of Amp Energy was positioned as a flavor...

The Mountain Dew energy drink is Kickstart

@FAE Yeah, I've never been much of a pop drinker.
In fact I greatly prefer fountain pop, since it's really watered down.

FAE
4:59 PM
@Wipqozn I used to way more when I lived in the US, but not being able to get Mt. Dew over here kind of kicked my habit. Also in college, I drank waaaaaaaaaay too much.

Whenever anyone goes down to the states, I ask them to pick up a case or two of Mountain Dew for me.

> At the time of its introduction in 2001, Amp Energy was initially distributed under the Mountain Dew soft drink brand.

I could really go for a bag of all dressed chips right about now (cc @StrixVaria)

FAE
@Wipqozn Those are so tasty

@Wipqozn Doritos Inferno chips.

FAE
5:01 PM
(Though I don't really eat chips much anymore either)

@FAE I know! The day I discovered they didn't make them in the USA was the day I took the chance to torture all my american friends.
@FAE Yeah, I rarely eat chips outside of social gatherings.

If I buy chips, it's usually just regular tortilla chips.
Which I eat without salsa.

All dressed, sour cream and onion, or ketchup chips. No salt and vinegar for me.

FAE
@Wipqozn Cutting down on snacking is hard. :( I'm very much a salty over sweet kind of snacker, so eating healthier stuff (like fruit) doesn't satisfy the cravings very well because it's sweet.

And I sometimes add salt.

5:03 PM
pringles are best chips, even though they aren't "legally" chips

FAE
@MBraedley I do not like salt and vinegar either.

@FAE why not put salt on fruit then? salty watermelon isn't that bad

@FAE I've always found grapes to be a good snack food. I'm not so much a "salty or sweet" kind of snacker. I just like having finger food. Grapes is a great finger food, since they're delicious, they're fruit, and you eat them with your fingers one at a time.
I do get cravings for specific things of course, but most of the time I just want something that I get a lot of individual pieces of it, like popcorn, grapes, or goldfish crackers.

FAE
@Wipqozn I've currently taken to eating raw baby carrots dipped in hummus, which is pretty good.

@FAE Baby carrots go really good with hummus.

FAE
5:05 PM
@Rapitor Salty watermelon's pretty good and I do like salt+sweet in a lot of things (mmm kettle corn) but I dunno, salt on a lot of other conventional fruits sounds kind of ick.

If given the chance, I will eat every baby carrot I see.

When I move out come fall I plan to have very little snack food in the house. My plan is to only have one snack food in the house at a time. I find whenI normally over eat on snacks it'll be because I have multiple kinds in the house, and I want to have all of it.
If I just have one type of snack, like say goldfish crackers, I won't snack as often.

FAE
@Wipqozn Yeah, that's why I try not to have much in here either.

@Wipqozn I would just eat all of them and then move on to something else.

when I move out I suspect the only snack food I'll normally have in the house will be goldfish crackers, since you can get them really cheap at costco.
@OrigamiRobot I'm not like that. I normally get myself a small - medium size snack bowl and just fill it up. I never eat things directly from the bag.

5:08 PM
If I buy a bag of chips, I will typically eat the entire bag in one sitting.

Well, not never, but rarely.

My problem is that I don't have portion size control when snacking. I'll end up eating an entire bag of chips or can of Pringles, for example.

I have a weird love hate with goldfish crackers. I dislike the taste, but I will not stop eating them if they are around

if i eat straight from the bag I eat too much.
@MBraedley Get a snack bowl, and just fill it up. once it's empty, you're done.

@Wipqozn Once, it's empty, just refill it.

FAE
5:09 PM
@Wipqozn That's generally a good rule of thumb.

> once it's empty, fill it up again.
Fixed that for you

FAE
@MBraedley hahaha

@MBraedley high-five

FAE
@MBraedley Pringles are so easy to eat in one sitting
2

Something I intend to never carry in the house is Ice Cream. I love ice cream, but when I have it I either A) Eat way too much of it OR B) Don't get enouhg and it gets freezer burnt.

5:10 PM
nah, just get party/family/costco size bags of snack. you'll go into a food coma before you run out.

When I move out I'll be really close to an ice cream store, which makes their own ice cream in store. It's more expensive than store bought ice cream, but it's also a lot more delicious (no filler crap). Plus since it is more money, and requires me to leave the house, I won't eat it as often.

Pringles are so wrong. They are the hot dogs of the potato chip world.

@JasonBerkan elaborate

FAE
@JasonBerkan I... huh, never thought about it that way. That's so accurate.

@Rapitor They create a pulp of potatoes and then mold it into perfect chip shapes.
As opposed to just slicing potatoes and frying them.

FAE
5:12 PM
if we do get chips nowadays, we tend to try to get baked chips instead of fried

@FAE I'm getting better at it. For instance, I only ate half a can last night.

FAE
@MBraedley Haha, woo!

These are best potato chips: missvickies.ca/en/prod.php

@FAE Gross!

@JasonBerkan miss Vickies makes fantastic chips.
@FAE I approve of this decision.

FAE
5:13 PM
I'm ruining your stars :P

My mother has made home made chips before.

@FAE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

FAE
@Wipqozn Yeah, I've made homemade baked sweet potato chips before

TIL @FAE and @Wipqozn have the worst taste in snacks and sodas.

FAE
unfortunately, our oven needs replacing and doesn't bake evenly so I can't really do it until we get a new one :(

5:14 PM
@fredley that's dope

@OrigamiRobot Your mom's a snack.

@Wipqozn My mom is a salesperson for snacks, yes.

@GnomeSlice Your mom will yell at you.

I still don't understand how "dope" means good.

5:17 PM
@OrigamiRobot You're right.
But she's already going to yell at me anyway

@Rapitor I really want to try this. But I can't justify the cost. :(

yeah it's a bit pricy that's why i haven't signed up either... but it does seem really cool

then again 16$ a month (for the year) for all snacks isn't bad.. considering how often you'd buy snacks normally. and you get 5 bags a month.

5:21 PM
I still don't understand what "savory" means.

@OrigamiRobot strong in flavor

That is the vaguest thing I've heard yet.

@OrigamiRobot For example: That savory food was tasty.

crackers are not savory, they have no taste. a vegetable soup is savory as it has a lot of different tastes and flavors in it.
at least thats how i see it

FAE
5:24 PM
I think of stuff that's mouth-watering

Crackers have a taste.
@FAE Everything is mouth-watering.

granted there is no "threshold" for when something officially becomes savory, but yeah. it's entirely up to you/the cook

> Savory - having a pleasant taste or smell
i.e something you can savor when you eat it

@GnomeSlice So, everything.

5:27 PM
you can't savor cardboard

Says who?

@OrigamiRobot @GnomeSlice does. He just did.
See? he said it again!
YOU STICK IT TO HIM @GnomeSlice!
TEACH HIM A LESSON IN PAAAAAIN

YOU STICK IT HIM @GnomeSlice!

BRING HIM TO THE SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS: @GNOMESLICE STYLE!

5:28 PM
What does that even mean?

@OrigamiRobot I want him to poke you with a stick.

Oh right, Shadowgate is probably available on Steam now.

From what I can tell, savory just means "food"

@OrigamiRobot it means food that have more flavor than others

5:30 PM
@Rapitor I don't understand what that means.
All foods have flavor.

but some have more

Yes, cantaloupe has more flavor than watermelon.

look at in terms of spicy, the whole scoville scale thing. they are all spicy, but some are more spicy than others

Is cantaloupe savory?

yes cantoloupe would be savory

Cantaloupe is sweet.
I was under the impression that savory is not sweet.

I think what you should be learning from this is that no one really knows what savory means, and you've just been lied to all these years.

"All these years" being the past 2 or 3

savory means 'tasty' pretty much
it's like tasty for rich people

Every food I like is tasty to me.

5:34 PM
@OrigamiRobot Yeah, but that's like, 20-30 years in RoboTime.
@OrigamiRobot: Is tonight your MTG night, or is that tomorrow?

Tonight

Q: What is the formal definition of savory?

PopsWhat is the formal definition of "savory" when used in cooking? I hear a lot about things coming in either sweet or savory forms — e.g. crepes — but in context it doesn't seem that savory is the term for all things that are not sweet. Does it have to do with preparation methods? Ingredients? ...

From what I can tell, savory just means "food"

@OrigamiRobot Rad. I'll be playing Netrunner tonight, and will be doing so every thursday from now on. Pretty excited to get back into a card game again.

5:35 PM
@OrigamiRobot food that you can agree with someone that it's tasty

I really don't think that's what it means.

I think you guys are just proving I'm right when I say no one has any idea what it means.

savory = delicious pretty much
it just sounds better in tv ads

Or maybe that healthy snack food can read my mind and just picks things it knows I will like if I select "savory" as an option.

I just looked what the german translations for savory are, and I get three words that mean completely different things

5:36 PM
@GnomeSlice because people are attracted to words they don't know the meaning of

dies

If that's the case, why are there other options besides "savory"

It's not a hard word

Umami /uːˈmɑːmi/, a savory taste, is one of the five basic tastes (together with sweet, sour, bitter and salty). A loanword from the Japanese (うま味), umami can be translated as "pleasant savory taste". This particular writing was chosen by Professor Kikunae Ikeda from umai (うまい) "delicious" and mi (味) "taste". The kanji 旨味 are used for a more general sense of a food as delicious. People taste umami through receptors for glutamate, commonly found in its salt form as the food additive monosodium glutamate (MSG). For that reason, scientists consider umami to be distinct from saltiness. == Background... ==

@OrigamiRobot Because English has a lot of words which mean the same thing.

5:39 PM
I have read this article so many times and still have no idea what it means.

English isn't a very concise language.

@GnomeSlice I'm assuming no, it's not.
I'm too lazy to click the link, but what makes you think it's a joke?

@GnomeSlice Those people look like they have pacifiers in their mouths.

@OrigamiRobot hahahahahahahahahaha now I see it too

5:43 PM
@OrigamiRobot I can't unsee that now.

So... Ray's the Dead is back on KickStarter.

how do you even use the menu
@Powerlord wat

@OrigamiRobot messing around with the site it looks like the "savory" filter is really just salty.

@GnomeSlice It was on KickStarter in mid-2013 and the devs shut down the kickstarter

I thought the game was out already
Maybe not

Stupid CRTC forcing me and @Wipqozn to do ten digit dialing, starting this weekend. (Grumble grumble)

Dialing? Like a phone?! How archaic
@GnomeSlice I don't doubt that some form of game could work on a smart watch, but that doesn't look like a good way to do it

6:43 PM
Ten digit dialing is basically standard now anyway...

@MBraedley Does Nova Scotia only have one area code?

yeah we've had area codes since I was...8 or something

We just switched to 10-digit dialing last year, because they introduced a second area code for the province this year.

@JasonBerkan Nova Scotia and PEI share 902, and we're getting 782 (I think) come November or something. If it were up to me, I would have split it up so that mainland Nova Scotia keeps 902, and Cape Breton and PEI get 782
Which means we push area code overlay down the pipe at least a few decades, if not indefinitely, and no additional ten digit dialing is needed.

It's 3 more numbers. Deal with it.

6:57 PM
@MBraedley That's what Alberta did. 780 was for northern Alberta/Edmonton. Not sure why we just went with all the old numbers staying 306 and all the new numbers getting 639.

We have area codes from the former, all starting with 0, and carrier codes for the latter, all starting with 3.

@JasonBerkan New numbers will use the new area code, anyone who has a number now gets to keep 902

So mobile numbers also get area codes?!

6:58 PM
Yes

@badp In some areas, like my hometown, the exchange is specific to cell numbers. Due to the lack of numbers now though, that's no longer the case.

@badp Yup. At least here, the first three digits of the the seven digit phone number can sometimes be used to ID as a mobile phone.

I mean I guess it's only slightly less absurd that carrier codes + keeping your number as you change carriers
