Do weapons of worth still sell for like 200 million?
or have prices calmed down?

@Sterno Dunno; haven't checked the weapon market very much.

5 days until I can not-play my GW2 headstart!

It's quite hard to get ANY worthwhile weaponry from drops right now; if it's not ilvl 63, it's basically worthless.
And even there, 95% of those are worthless.
1.04 is letting ilvl 61 and 62 weapons roll right up to ilvl 63, so at least there'll be MORE chances at good weaponry.

I don't get all these people complaining about MF being worthless now.

@OrigamiRobot They're assuming that hitting plvl 100 will be cake.

5:04 PM
With the new Legendaries, the price of MF gear is going to skyrocket because nobody will have Paragon Levels yet

@OrigamiRobot At least I don't have much more stacking to go before I hit the cap, then.

@fbueckert I have zero MF

After they released the fact that MF gave you a better chance to get more affixes, MF sort of became a required affix.
@OrigamiRobot On my progression gear, I have zero as well.
I caved for farming, though.

In related news, exponential power curve sucks. Unless you love to play dirty mind tricks with your players, in which case may you kindly die in a car fire.

@MartinSojka Which game are we talking about here?

5:06 PM
@fbueckert Any since the original D&D.

@MartinSojka Sounds like you have an anecdote to share.

... but in particular, those where somebody at the top level can't be taken out by somebody just starting, no matter how lucky.
@fbueckert No anecdote, just wanted to vent this out of the system. :)

@MartinSojka That would describe just about ANY MMO currently out.

I just love simple linear systems. Want to kill a level 100 guy? Bring two level 55. 2x55 > 100, they win (on average). Or bring 120 level 1 ones, that works too.

Fans would be in a massive uproar if a level 1 character could kill their level WTFOMGBBQ that they've spent tons of time on.
@MartinSojka Simple linear systems are too easy to brute force.
Can't kill a boss? Bring more people until you can.

5:09 PM
@fbueckert That's a feature I like about them, yes.

It throws strategy out the window.

... and replaces it with logistics.

@MartinSojka Not really. It would take less than a day to set up a system to account for it, and there would go all challenge.

@fbueckert How often did you try to get 200+ people to work together as a team? :)

Once it works once, then done. Problem solved, no matter how strong they are.
@MartinSojka Pfft. Promise cake. Problem solved.

@fbueckert everyone knows not to trust promises of cake

Gotta make my numbers bigger!

@murgatroid99 And yet, I'd have all the people I'd need as soon as I did.

@fbueckert as long as you could make people believe that you could deliver

@murgatroid99 Eh. Portal has enough of a following that I'd have people joining just because it's funny.
But, regardless, the point is that logistics is a one-shot deal. Once it's solved, the problem is solved, period.
Content would be a cakewalk from that point out.

5:15 PM
@fbueckert that's true. I think though that a bigger problem than getting people to want to work with you would be getting them all to the same place at the same time with the same goal

@murgatroid99 "First X number of people at these coordinates at this time. Snooze, you lose."

With linear systems, if you get X amount of people, and you fail, the solution is simple: add more people.
Tactics and strategy take a back seat to simple brute force.

@fbueckert Yes, with logistics, it becomes a matter of perfecting the execution. No matter how flawless your plan is, with enough people something (often multiple "somethings") will always go terribly wrong.

@fbueckert I can see that being kind of fun though: leading a massive army against some monster or something

5:19 PM
"Brute force" only works to an extent. In particular, there are real world solutions to any zerg rush tactic: suppressive fire and artillery.

@murgatroid99 Yeah. Don't get me wrong. It would be fun every now and then to lead an entire army of level 1's straight into a dragon's den.

@MartinSojka Well then you just need a force of brutes large enough to out number the ammo of the fire/artillery :)

But when the solution to every answer is "Add more people", then there's something wrong with the strategy.

@fbueckert Economic Feasibility usually. Then include things like supply lines, communication, coordination, etc..

@fbueckert The Germans tried that in the 1940ties. They ran out of people.

5:21 PM
I could see organizing an entire server's population to do nothing more than create new characters, and zerg the end boss, for sheer shits and giggles.
@MartinSojka Happily, in video games, you CAN'T run out of people.
@James The reason most video games don't have that is because people find it boring. :P
Personally, I love logistics.

@fbueckert Depends on the video game, but in the most cases, you can run out of other resources: consumables, money, gear, time.

It's why I like games like Anno and Pharaoh.

@fbueckert I dunno man, Running a 50man raid was a pain in the ass
The 300 man raids we tried to do in DAoC were... well aside from server crashing, very hard to keep focused

@James Yeah, but we're talking about a system where enough level ones can drown the end boss.

@James but it was fun when it worked

5:24 PM
Tell everyone that the end boss drops a super rare item, but you have to attack to get entered into the raffle, and problem solved.

@fbueckert Yeah I do not know of a game where that is even possible at this point in time

@James Yeah, I know.
I'm refuting @MartinSojka's wish for linear systems.

@fbueckert Everything is linear at an instantaneous point of time :)

Q: How do I collect redstone on iOS?

JackieI have found redstone and have tried using stone, iron and diamond pickaxes to mine it but I can't collect anything. I'm playing survival mode on my iPhone. How can I collect anything from this redstone?

The latest edit is adding in iOS info, for some reason, even though the original poster has not said anything about it being on iOS.
Oh, derp.
Sorry, there is a comment about it.
Never mind, nothing to see here.
@James And now you're just getting semantic on me. :P

@fbueckert Isnt that the root of every argument? :)

5:27 PM
@fbueckert No need to refute anything. I'm just stating my preference - which is why I can't stand games which are all about progression, like the Diablo series.

.. I mean Debate.. not argument.. :D

@James everything is constant at an instantaneous point of time

@James Either or. Matters not to me.
@MartinSojka You must hate most RPGs, then.
Linear systems in video games are rare because they're so easy to work around.

Not so much "hate" as "skip the boring parts (like levelling and fighting) as soon as I grokked how the mechanics work."

@MartinSojka Don't play Cross Edge, then.

5:30 PM
When the RPG in question has nothing besides it, I still don't hate it, I just don't play it. :)
Anyway, enough time wasted, see you later.

Are there any minecraft players present?

@Ender Yeah?

@Ender Sup?
@RonanForman I think he was just taking a poll

Oh. 1.04 is being targeted for tomorrow. Interesting.

Is it just me or is the 1.03 SUPER SUPER buggy, as in much more buggy than previous versions?
(only just started playing again recently)

5:41 PM
@Ender Er, are you referring to 1.03 Diablo, or 1.3 Minecraft?

@John Minecraft, I would assume.

@fbueckert The version is wrong.. 1.3.1 is released for MC.. 1.4.Something is already in previews?
(or is it 1.3.2... I forget Ive not updated yet :D)

@James Talk to @Ender, not me.
I don't play Minecraft.

@James 1.3.2 is the latest, but it's a client version only.

I get to fire down some nails into my roof once I get home.
A squirrel's made a nest in my attic, and I don't like it scratching around up there.

6:07 PM
@fbueckert have you seen that? it's the greatest vid ever

@Jin shit. I was just tricked into rewatching and listening to Gangnam Style :(

@Mana Are you complaining about that?

Q: How do I use the gun that comes with Robin's Biohazard suite in Lego Batman 2?

ClarkI can get Robin to ready the weapon by pressing the circle button, but I can't get the gun to do anything. How do you use it?

Q: Where is my Enlightened badge?

hammythepigOn this question someone recently gave me an up vote (yay!) which puts me currently at 10 upvotes. This awarded me the "Nice answer" badge. Nice Answer: Answer score of 10 or more. This badge can be awarded multiple times. Enlightened: First to answer and accepted with at least 10 upvo...

@StrixVaria yes. I am not a fan of Gangnam Style.

But it's so catchy!

6:12 PM
@John Minecraft
I was talking abotu minecraft

@Ender Single player now is just a private server, so it'll be slightly more laggy.

> Stat increases which come from slotted gems will no longer be factored in when searching for equipment. Instead, your search criteria will only take into account the base stat values for an item.
I know I'm late but that's awesome.

@Jin Can't say I've seen that. It'll have to wait until I get home, though.

Jin
Gundam Style > Gangnam Style!!!

its moer than laggy. its stupid buggy. I not only now have the classic 'lighting' glitch that was always in SMP, i have glitches including but not limited to my planted seeds simply dissapearing, blocks falling after being broken but unable to be picked up, what appearns to be teleporting mobs (i understand 'laggy' but everything is still client side isnt it? so wtf is up with that?)

6:15 PM
@StrixVaria There really should be an option for including gems or not; same with anything that increases/decreases item values.

I've converted bones to bonemeal and had them just dissapear instead.
Ive mined blocks and had them just dissapear

@Ender Two different processes rather than one.

Rough.
So its not just me though, its the whole 'convert to server thingy?'

They're improving performance on both SSP and SMP

@fbueckert Agreed. But if they have to make it mandatory one way or the other, this is still better than it was.

6:16 PM
@RonanForman Ok. Thanks much! :)

@Ender You seem to have it worse than most. Have you tried optifine?

@StrixVaria True.

@RonanForman I had it installed a long time ago, and never bothered to reinstall it after the enchanted bow patch. I shoudl probably try it again.

Ugh I can't believe I'm excited for D3 again.

Sidenote: Is it bad that I have more profile views than I do helpful flags?

6:18 PM
@fbueckert i hope not, cause I do too.

@fbueckert I have more than 10x as many profile views as helpful flags.

@RonanForman its also important to note that my labtop has never run minecraft well, it tends to overheat my machine something horrible, and that likely has something to do with it.

@StrixVaria yeah, I have about 5x as many

Heh. Running through answers that might need an update due to 1.04, I remember this:

Q: What determines your chance to Flinch

user30194When playing (most often as melee) you'll often come across situations where when attacked your character will go through a "hit" animation, and cry out. When you do this all your attacks (normal or special) are interrupted for a short time, however if you are surrounded by enemies, as you often...

I STILL hate this question.
It's a fundamental misunderstanding of how D3 works.

@Ender On the upside it now takes much less RAM.

6:19 PM
@RonanForman that is good. Now if only it used 80% less cpu.

@Ender You should play on our server.

@RonanForman I appreciate the invite, but I play extremely casually, as in maybe once a week for a half hour if at all. I mostly play LoL as my gaming time is extremely limited and that produces the most 'fun' per minute for me.
@ronanForman however, Id love to visit sometime and see what you've guys have done, as long as you understand Ill likely rarely be there.

@RonanForman Do we still have a MC server that people actively play on?
I thought that died a year ago.

@StrixVaria Yeah.

I should look into that someday when I have free time.

Q: What's the best general in Empire Defense 2?

BazzPsychoNutI can't seem to find any documentation about this rather popular app. I've saved up quite a bit of minerals for a new general and would like some advise about which general is considered the best, so I won't have to grind for another 3 weeks.

Q: Location of LOL servers

calccryptoIs there a list of where (cities/states not general location) LOL servers are located? I mainly want to know if there is one on the east coast of the US, since even though im in NY, i still get 100-200 ping.

@Lazers He's fussing about 100-200 ping? Wow.

@fbueckert I remember when 200 ping was AWESOME... Anything below a 300 was nice :)

@James I remember Internet still being pretty new to the world, and ANY connection was awesome.

@RonanForman I logged into the server once.. I got lost.. and the one guy on there was a bit erksome :)

@James Who?

6:46 PM
@fbueckert Could be worse. Cloud gaming services need more like <50

@RonanForman Hell if I remember.

Q: Does pre-1.0.4 experience retroactively apply towards Paragon levels?

SeanDoes post-level 60 experience apply towards Paragon levels, or must all level 60 characters start from scratch after upgrading to 1.0.4?

Yay for speculation!

@fbueckert That seems like a question that should have an answer at some point in time.

@James Yes. The system was announced today.

@fbueckert I always hate dealing with those questions because we can't answer them now but we will be able to in the future

6:56 PM
@murgatroid99 Yeah so you leave them there until they have an answer.. What is there to deal with?

@murgatroid99 Yeah. This falls into the area of, "Announced, but not yet implemented."

@James speculation is off topic

@murgatroid99 Its not speculation though.. It is a question that will have a defineable answer and when it is available someone can put it in there.
Until then, its still a good question to have asked

@James It's speculation until the system is implemented.

@James It is speculation now. It will not be speculation in the future

6:57 PM
@fbueckert Too localized even after the patch! :D

@StrixVaria It's not localized

It doesn't help anyone at all, at any point after the patch comes out.
For the rest of time.

@StrixVaria ..I didn't even think of that! The question becomes entirely moot as soon as 1.04 hits.
And it's speculation until 1.04 hits.
Either way, it gets closed.

@StrixVaria What if someone wants to know what happened once the patch came out?

@murgatroid99 ... Patch notes? I dunno.

7:00 PM
@Koviko just because the information is somewhere else doesn't make the question bad/off topic/too localized

@murgatroid99 Do you think anyone, right now, is interested in the differences between Minecraft 0.4 and Minecraft 0.5?

@murgatroid99 Historical reference. Either way, the only reason the question got asked is because it falls into the cracks between being announced, and prior to being implemented.

@StrixVaria but they might have been interested for the entire time that 0.5 was out

@murgatroid99 No, but that doesn't make it good, either.

@Koviko I'm not saying that the question is good, just that it doesn't count as "Too Localized"

7:02 PM
@murgatroid99 How not?
If this isn't the very definition of Too localized, I'm not understanding it very well.

@fbueckert I think it's information people might care to have potentially for the entire lifetime of 1.04 (if they start playing again 3 weeks after it comes out, for example)

It sounds like the kind of question that becomes answered once you log in, which would fall under very little research after the patch is out.

@fbueckert How many people play Diablo3? I mean if it is just one person then fine, its not much benefit to the general game playing community. But ya know if a few million people might like knowing then its not all that localized?

@fbueckert Closed

@fbueckert Too localized is for questions pertaining to a vanishingly small geographic area or timeframe
@Koviko that's what downvotes are for, not localized closings

7:05 PM
@murgatroid99 Its likely the timeframe thing they are talking about.

@James And I am arguing that it pertains to more than a vanishingly small timeframe

@Koviko No one has ever adhered to that rule.. I think like Rule #1 is to google it yourself before asking. I can not tell you how many questions on here are the first or second google result answerable (not including now that SE sites are fairly high on the results lists)

@murgatroid99 Yeah. This timeframe is what I'm talking about.

@James Well, the quality of a question isn't a rule, so it doesn't matter.

The ONLY reason this question got asked is because it's between when it was announced, and when it was released.

7:07 PM
Research or no, that's just upvotes an downvotes.

@fbueckert you don't think anyone would ever want to know this after the update is released?

@murgatroid99 Why would they?

@murgatroid99 That's kinda the point that's being made, here.

It doesn't matter whether it was retroactive or not.

@fbueckert OR because someone wants to know without logging in? Or because they don't know how to recognize paragon levels after logging in? Or because they don't know whether they just haven't made it to paragon level 1 yet, but their progress was kept?
This doesn't seem to be "Too trivial to ask" to me.

7:08 PM
@fbueckert The case I'm imagining is that someone doesn't log in for the first 3 weeks after 1.04 was released, and then wants to know what carried over to the update without firing up the game and connecting to a server right then

@OrigamiRobot Worst Magic Card -EVAR-. How is promoting the gear grinding to put it into the AH so they can make more cash making the game more playable?

@murgatroid99 So, something that's useful for about a month isn't too localized?

@Koviko nope. That's the point of "vanishingly small". If it was only useful for the next hour, that's a different story

Yes, Too Localized wasn't the best close reason, but who cares. Before the patch it's speculation which is off-topic. After the patch it's NARQ because the only way you don't know is if it is not relevant to you or you are not playing the game.
2

@Koviko Could be very useful to people like me.. Who are not actively playing, and really do not give a crap about the game. It may spark interest that there is something worth trying out again in that game.. Though this particular patch gets nothing but loathing and contempt from me.

7:10 PM
@James But this patch is supposed to fix the game!

"After the patch it's NARQ because the only way you don't know is if it is not relevant to you or you are not playing the game." Tell me again how I know whether I am halfway to paragon level 1 by logging in?

@James I'm sorry, I guess you never played DIablo 2

@Koviko The game is a pile of shit.
@OrigamiRobot I love D1 and D2

user2334
I realize this is in active discussion, but allow me to aoushdiqwuhdiqwluhdqwhakldsjhdpquwhdiqwuhdlashkdjasiuh anyway at the misuse of too localized

@Koviko Trying to make a hampered gear grinding end-game better by making it so you can level drops is not going to help it.

7:11 PM
@James Try playing Dungeon Siege 3 for 40 hours and then tell me how terrible you think Diablo 3 is. =)

user2334
@bwarner You don't need that long. I figured that out after about 3.

@MarkTrapp I dunno. Sounds like the very definition of too localized to me.

@bwarner I played it for 2 hours and realized there is a good reason to make sure game sequels are actually made by the people who made the original games you loved.

@MarkTrapp Sure, but my point is that after 40 hours you'd be dying for a chance to play something like Diablo 3.

@bwarner And how does one game sucking relate to another game sucking?

user2334
7:13 PM
@fbueckert Too localized is "this will never help anyone ever why are you asking us?" not "well it might not be useful in the future"

32
A: What questions should be closed with reason "too localized"?

Joel Spolsky"Too localized" should be used for very tiny geographic regions or vanishingly small periods of time. It is used when a question cannot possibly be answered because nobody participating in the site is likely to know the answer, and even if it were answered, nobody else would care. For me, the ca...

@MarkTrapp Too localized also includes "a specific moment in time".
This specific moment in time is the time between the announcement, and the release.

user2334
@fbueckert Yeah, like a second. A vanishingly small amount of time

@fbueckert what about my example of someone wanting to know weeks after the release?

@James Because two bad games should be roughly equal, right? If one bad game is way better than the other bad game, then they aren't the same level of bad.

7:14 PM
@murgatroid99 Why does it matter? After the patch hits, you get Paragon XP.

user2334
Not "well I'm getting back into Diablo III after 1.0.4 a week later and I want to know how this paragon business works"

@bwarner I will know whether XP is retroactively applied to Paragon as fast as I will know Link's tunic color.

user2334
@murgatroid99 Exactly!

@bwarner ... Your logic defies me.. It sounds like as long as you can identify one game that is crappy beyond ANY other game you should play all the other crappy games... Thats the kind of logic that Guild Wars players use :P

user2334
Also, murgatroided again

7:15 PM
@murgatroid99 If the answer to the question is "Yes," then you know when you log in. IF the answer is "no," then you know when you log in.

@Koviko you don't necessarily know that

@murgatroid99 If we don't know that, then the answer to the question can only be speculation.

@James Well, maybe I misunderstood and "Pile of shit" is halfway up your game quality scale.

@MarkTrapp Your answer includes, "and even if it were answered, nobody else would care."

@Koviko I mean you don't necessarily know that now

7:16 PM
Can we reopen it and close it as speculation? I didn't realize it was closed already.

Once 1.04 hits, nobody will care if it's retroactive or not.

@fbueckert how do you know?

@murgatroid99 If you care, you'll have logged in and found out.

@bwarner Hahaha, I am not a fecalfeliac TYVM :)

But for me, I wouldn't use "Pile of shit" even on Dungeon Siege 3, so I certainly wouldn't use it on a game that I have enjoyed way more.

7:17 PM
If you don't, then you're not playing D3, and 1.04 affects you not at all.

PoS is a classification I use for something I do not want to touch with a 10ft pole.
I though PoS was a fairly universal classification.

Its your opinion obviously, so I'm not saying you're wrong, just encouraging you to consider some reference points in your comparison.

This question only applies to people how have level 60 characters who have not logged in since the patch. Once they log in, their question will be answered.

@fbueckert No research != Too localized

user2334
@fbueckert You really think nobody cares about the answer to this question?

7:19 PM
@MarkTrapp Yeah, I do.

@James I equated it to 1 out of 10. So my point was that giving both this and Dungeon Siege 3 a 1 out of 10 is either overly harsh to Diablo, or overly generous to Dungeon Siege.

Maybe, maybe, it could be salvaged after 1.04 with "Where did all this paragon experience come from?"

@bwarner They are both not worth playing.. Only consolation I have is that I won D3 from G.SE and I DS3 came with DS1 and 2 which are fun games :D

Notice we're not really talking about whether it's retroactive or not; we're arguing about whether or not we've closed it properly. :P

user2334
@fbueckert The announcement of the mechanic's got 1202 votes and 1064 comments on Reddit, which indicates to me it's a big deal. When Joel says "nobody cares" he means literally, the only one who cares is the asker.

7:21 PM
@fbueckert Or how about "Why didn't I get any Paragon experience when patch 1.0.4 went live?"

@MarkTrapp The mechanic, yes, people care about.
Whether the XP is retroactive or not, however, no.
@James Or that.

Has anyone done a feature request to simply change a close reason without affecting the closed state? That's the only thing we need here.

@fbueckert Wait - its not released yet? I'm on D3 hiatus, but from discussions I thought it was already released :/

@Alok 1.04 is targeted for "tomorrow".
Probably.

and I'm not too sure 100 paragon levels with 3% MF/level is a great idea

7:23 PM
@OrigamiRobot closest thing I see is this:
1
Q: Is it possible to change a close reason after a question has been closed. (And would you want to)?

Simon P StevensWhat kind of application would benefit from being written in F# opposed to the more conventional languages? was closed for being subjective/argumentative. I saw potential in the question and tried to re-word it to remove the subjectiveness, but unfortunately by that point the question already had...

@fbueckert Just put Tomorrow in quotes, it will get the point across :D

bots will get to lvl 100 Paragon in a few days; and Blizz will play 'la la we're too dumb to investigate these accounts' as usual :(
@fbueckert Ah, patch Tuesdays :P

To all people discussing this question: Are we at least agreed that this question should be closed? Yes/no?

user2334
@fbueckert I don't know what to say to that, other than it seems like you're just digging in. Paragon levels and how it works is big deal, and we should be fielding questions about them. They're not too localized: people do care. You might not care, but that's not reason enough to ban questions

I love their interpretation of the whole MF discussions, not sure they actually read any of the feedback

7:24 PM
@fbueckert yes, but only because the update has not been released yet

14 mins ago, by OrigamiRobot
Yes, Too Localized wasn't the best close reason, but who cares. Before the patch it's speculation which is off-topic. After the patch it's NARQ because the only way you don't know is if it is not relevant to you or you are not playing the game.
3

user2334
@fbueckert No. It's not too localized, it clearly asks something answerable in principle, it asks about a concrete game mechanic, and isn't a duplicate. It should be open

@MarkTrapp It's speculation about a just announced system.
Even if Too Localized wasn't the correct reason, it's still off-topic.

user2334
@fbueckert No it's not. It can easily be answered by an official source. He's not asking "how do you think the system should work?" He's asking how it actually works

And I'm not conceding that point as of yet.
@MarkTrapp By an official source. If ONLY an official source can answer, isn't that why we have speculation off-topic in the first place?
And that's a bit of a slippery slope, no less.

user2334

@fbueckert No: we deal with pre-release questions all the time, and increasing frequency, with promotions and junk. The fact that it's not officially released yet or that it requires a citation from an official source isn't many why pre-release questions are closeable: it's that they cannot be answered without insider knowledge of the game. Blizzard's talking publicly about the mechanic

@MarkTrapp Exactly
They have SOME info about the system.
There was nothing there about retroactive XP or not.
> it's that they cannot be answered without insider knowledge of the game
This question is the very definition of this.

user2334
No, it's not: it's answerable in principle. Heck, it's going to be answerable by users tomorrow.

I will one day figure out how a question that will be answerable at some point in time damages the site until it can be answered.

@MarkTrapp Is the patch confirmed for tomorrow?

Its almost like: If the question isn't asked when its answerable, then it will never be answered.

user2334
7:32 PM
@James It doesn't, unless it's attracting crap answers.

@StrixVaria Bashiok has said that it's targeted for tomorrow.
We'll see if it drops or not.

@MarkTrapp Crap answers are what voting is for, not a close on a question though.

user2334
@StrixVaria idk I'm just going on what other people say. If it was delayed a month, it doesn't matter: we've been fielding MoP prerelease questions for a while, and that's not out until Sept 25

@MarkTrapp So, when someone asks a speculative question, one of two things happens: 1) Somebody has an official quote and it gets answered. 2) No one has an official quote and it gets closed.

I really do think that question should stay closed, regardless of the reason we use. Either way, if it gets re-opened, there's not much I can do about it. It's time for lunch, so away I go.

7:34 PM
@James If a question is only inviting crap answers, it's a problem with the question: that's why we have NC and NARQ. But that's not the case here

@MarkTrapp I'm not getting into the whole argument you're all having. I'm just trying to psych myself up for playing it.
I cast my vote; my part in determining the fate of that question is done.

I'm about to start a game but if we do need a close reason changed quickly then just link it

user2334
@Koviko If someone's asking a speculative question, it gets closed, but asking how a mechanic works is not speculation. "How do you think Paragon levels are going to work?" or "How do you think Paragon levels should work?" vs. "How do paragon levels work?" It's a difference in what the question invites in terms of answers

It isn't that it's not answerable. It will be extremely answerable. By everyone who currently has a level 60 character with more than the exact amount of XP required to get to level 60. Just log in. Do you have Paragon XP? No, of course you don't. Question answered.

user2334
@StrixVaria Oh. I heard 1.0.4 was tomorrow, but paragon levels seem pretty big to spring at the last moment, so idkmybffjill!

7:37 PM
@MarkTrapp So, if a non-speculative question is asked about something that only an official source can answer
We don't close it as speculative?

Might as well ask "I paid for TF2 before it went F2P. Will I have the Proof of Purchase in my inventory?"

user2334
@OrigamiRobot Then close it after the fact as too localized for no longer being applicable. Not before

user2334
@Koviko No: officially-sourced answers are like at the top of the heap in terms of quality

@MarkTrapp I didnt VTC as Too Localized.

user2334
@OrigamiRobot I mean in general. What did yo VTC it as, off-topic?

7:40 PM
NARQ

user2334
I see

@MarkTrapp But there's no guarantee that we have an official answer. That's the point I was making. If we don't have an official answer, what do you do to a question that basically requests one?
Hm... We may have starred the wrong chat message. lol

Yes, Too Localized wasn't the best close reason, but who cares. Before the patch it's speculation which is off-topic. After the patch it's NARQ because the only way you don't know is if it is not relevant to you or you are not playing the game.
Too late to undo my star! D:

user2334
@Koviko It's no different than the other questions we have that haven't been answered by the Arqade community yet: just because a question is hard to answer right now doesn't mean it should be closed. The only reason a question like that should be closed is if it's attracting crap answers. If it's not, it can sit and wait. Like the Grimace.

@MarkTrapp So, instead of closing speculative questions, should we just edit them to be act as if they exist after-the-fact
And then just... wait?

Q: How to reconnect a dota 2 game?

@Koviko Editing a speculatory question to ask for facts instead of speculation is one way to improve it, yes

user2334
@Koviko Yes, like you'd do with any other question. Some questions get answered within a few minutes of being asked; others take days, weeks, even months

user2334
The amount of time a question takes to get answered is immaterial unless the amount of time is infinite because it's not answerable in principle

@MarkTrapp Except, allowing a question to just sit around and rot usually leaves it unanswered as it falls out of view.
And if someone gives a bad answer, it no longer counts as "unanswered"

user2334
@Koviko If someone gives a bad answer and it's recorded as such by the community (i.e., no up votes, or is down voted), it still counts as unanswered.

@MarkTrapp Mm.

user2334
7:51 PM
@Koviko Not to Google or search in general. The number of necromancer badges is partially testament to that

user2334
Heck, I just answered a question from 9 months ago because Alok found it somehow

user2334
And that one was even off the unanswered list

I might be digging, now, but what about it being a problem that you actually face?
If Paragon levels don't actually exist yet, how could it possibly be a problem you are facing?

user2334
@Koviko That's probably the strongest argument, and what @OrigamiRobot was pointing to. Before 1.0.4, nobody's affected by it in game, after 1.0.4, the answer is immediate. But knowing how a mechanic works ahead of time allows people to plan their game accordingly. Stock up on items, etc. So I think it is a problem people are actually facing

@MarkTrapp Showed up in the review list, it got lucky that someone gave a malformed 1 line answer ages back :)
@MarkTrapp Stock up on ... xp? Frankly, I would be shocked if this one was left open when countless other answerable questions get closed because 'game is in beta' or 'unreleased update' etc.

7:58 PM
@MarkTrapp But what if it's moreso a problem people are planning on facing, rather than what they are actually facing? And the problem they are actually facing is, "Should I start trying to farm XP now or later?" which would be speculative?

@MarkTrapp But until it happens, there is no answer.

@Alok Well, I don't think we close just because something is beta, but moreso that the question can't be answered and coincidentally, it being in beta is a contributing factor.
