@fbueckert No, not really, Diablo 3 is definitely not a particularly great game, even if it isn't as bad as some of the low metacritic scores make it out to be.
@RilgonArcsinh Any networked game has issues on launch but they were on it and resolved em. Connection issues is not a review of game play so its not a good thing to base a game review on?
They have this perfect picture of how it works in their heads, and the instant the game doesn't match their expectations, they rage like little kids that got their candy taken away.
@RavenDreamer No, Mass Effect 3 is, by contrast, a legitimately good game that happens to have gotten a way out of proportion negative reaction to it's ending.
@LessPop_MoreFizz I'm not quite looking at it like that. Yeah, on its own, it's a good game. What it's not good at is being the triology-ending game it was built up to be.
@RilgonArcsinh Rift had somewhere on the order of one one hundredth of the launch playerbase of D3. Let's be fair, nobody other than Blizzard has launched an online game with as many players. There are lots of things to criticize d3 for, but I wouldn't really call the first week of network issues one of them.
@LessPop_MoreFizz I respectfully disagree. To me it felt like the story was the writers patting themselves on the back, saying, "Hey, did you see that? We were referencing the past game! And that? That's a reference too!"
@RilgonArcsinh the point is, they absolutely shattered records for concurrent users of an online game, so to say that they're 'bad at' handling that sort of load is disingenuous. It's like bitching at a great home run hitter for not hitting the ball out of a park with 700 foot fences. (~350-450 is 'normal'.)
@RilgonArcsinh Fair enough, ME1 failed to hook me the first 5 times I tried to give it a chance, but for some reason stuck on attempt 6. (The first 5 attempts were not so much reactions to pressure as they were to 'oh god I'm bored, what do I have in my Steam library that is new to me.')
@LessPop_MoreFizz To be fair, how much of that is inflated due to "always online" DRM? Not to disparage their success, but the fact is, if they hadn't required "always online", they'd have had fewer players to deal with.
@Alok no no no D3's story was metzen forgot about it and on a last minute deadline decided ti would be a good idea to do ALL THE COKE in his stash and write it all in a late night frnzy.
@Alok Mass Effect 3's story is like finding out the last inch of your sirloin steak has too much salt, and more gristle than you'd like. Diablo 3's story is like being served dog food by a waiter who is very much convinced he is serving you a delicacy.
@RilgonArcsinh To be fair, if you expend that much effort making a scale model out of an illegal substance, you really should share with all your friends.
@RavenDreamer lmao never played ME3 but that analogy sounds so accurate ... and I read the 'conspiracy theory' about the ME3 ending, really wish that was the official version :(
@LessPop_MoreFizz Uhh, what're you saying; the one I read was not a happy ending. And it may be stupid (dunno about ME universe) but it was awesome imho, way different than usual endings
@RavenDreamer The choice provided is fine and perfectly in keeping with the theme. The issue is that there is no meaningful cinematic variation between the choices.
@Alok The indoctrination theory is definitely a 'happy ending' insofar as it invalidates the real moral dilemma posed by the actual ending.
@Alok No, because the mind control hypothesis is used as a cop-out to make the rest of the ending, (which is to say, the potential destruction of the universe) a null state.
@RavenDreamer I don't think the star child is in any way out of place and given that the entire thread of the game is 'WE ARE BUILDING THE ANCIENT MACHINE', it makes perfect sense. But we clearly differ here. I should also note that I think AI is an excellent movie that should've ended 20 minutes sooner.
Which probably should inform you on how I feel about these things.
@LessPop_MoreFizz I liked the ANCIENT MACHINE. What I didn't like was, "There's a god living in the ANCIENT MACHINE, it's not the fact that we built the machine, it's that we woke up the god.
@RavenDreamer In general, I prefer my deus ex machina at the beginning of stories instead of surprise intros near the end :/. Which is what appears to be the case here
The whole game was building up the Reapers as unknowable beings of cosmic power, and then you get to the citadel, and the god child basically just sits down and says, "Sup. What took you so long"
The central problem with the ANCIENT MACHINE + GODCHILD = ALL PROBLEMS SOLVED is that the Reapers are ignorant of it. The central conceit is that the races have been building better and better versions of this machine every time the reapers come to Reap. Do you think the Reapers would never stop and ask themselves, "Why do they keep trying to build this? I wonder what it does!"

@Sterno Yeah! Not like the ID questions people really want to ask are "help me remember this game from a long time ago" and they'd see any variation of an ITG tag as a license to ask them!
@RilgonArcsinh Here's the thing: It's perfectly cool to hate the ~WRITER'S VISION~. If you didn't like it, that's cool. I don't like a lot of things either.

@Brant 30 more days from today. I look forward to all the hand wringing posts on MSO on September 21st
room topic changed to The Bridge: General Chat Room for Arqade.com. The main quarters of Arqade's SEI AskQuestion Mothership, wherein we aim our LAZERS and LASERS at arqade cabinets and fancy new spaceship logos. [arqade] [jin-fanclub] [lazers] [this-this-is-wot]
But I think that Bioware did something very stupid by going back and doing a revised ending in direct response to that criticism, because it's pure pandering, and it cheapens the work for those that did enjoy it.
@RavenDreamer No, I don't find that problematic, because the Reapers are essentially mindless. They're synthetic AI's with a defined purpose which they fulfill.
@Sterno Yeah, I appreciated that as a fuck you to the indoctrination theory nonsense.
@Sterno At first I thought this, but as the EC got closer and closer, I realized that any change is much too little, much too late. A "The Damage is done, it doesn't matter, GG Mass Effect Franchise" mentality, if you will.
@LessPop_MoreFizz It's pretty much the same ending as if you just sit still and wait for the reapers to blow up the station, which you could already originally do. it just adds a cutscene of Liara's recording
@Sterno This. It gave me a few dozen hours of the best gameplay in the series, a solidly fun co-op multiplayer game, and an enjoyable story that ended flat. I can't really ask for too much more than that from most games.
Are there better games? Abso-fucking-lutely. Is ME 3 a bad game? Absolutely not.
It's quite a good game, if not neccesarily an all time great.
@Sterno ME3's gameplay blows away the first two. ME 1 has the best narrative and dialog. ME2 splits the difference and probably ends up being the 'best' of the three as a result.
Dungeon Finder update for TSW can't come soon enough. Addon is good, but usage isn't widespread enough, and god NM pugs can be awful.
(For those without a frame of reference: Imagine pugging BC Heroics, where all DPS are required to do some combination of purge, interrupt, cleanse, CC, and pop Heroism at an appropriate time)
Once you hit level 6 in Darksiders, you unlock Reaper Form (You know, that thing you've been transforming into in the boss kill cinematics?), which is powered by Reaper Energy.
Great! So how do we earn Reaper Energy to recharge the ability? The in-game tooltip mentions that you need to use Reape...
In TF2's new Mann Mode, each of the levels has at least 3 different missions that the team can play against. I assume Missions are different robot wave templates.

When using the Witch Doctor "mass confusion" ability, it is possible to confuse elites into fighting on your side. Many of them have AoE affixes like fire chains, arcane enchantment, mortar, etc. I see the elites continue to use them even when confused, but there is so much chaos I can't really...

is there a limit to the number of games I can create and if there is, is there a way to resign from a game or end a game prematurely?
I started a few games but it seems halfway through the opponents are not responding or playing the games.
