@AshleyNunn Anyone of enough rep in chat can validate a flag completely out of context in chat. Comparatively, on site, you either have to be in context, or a moderator of that site who should really know to look at context.

3 mins ago, by GnomeSlice
I still think someone needs to open a meta thread about our chat flagging.

@ArdaXi Wait, it doesn't work like that already?

@OrigamiRobot Nope.

@AshleyNunn Also, a chat flag results in a suspension, while an offensive flag decidedly does not.

@GnomeSlice That's crazy.

10:02 PM
oh god I hate sitting in the same spot for prolonged periods of time.
this train ride needs to end already.
oh, hey, speak of the devil.
see you guys in a bit.

Later, @Mana.

@GraceNote I like your current gravatar much more than the previous one.

@OrigamiRobot No, you get suspended for 30 minutes first offence.

@OrigamiRobot Because it's not blindingly pastel or because you can actually recognize who she is?

@GraceNote The former. I don't recognize any of your gravatars.
@ArdaXi This seems extreme.

10:07 PM
None of them?

@OrigamiRobot I concur.

None that I've seen

@ArdaXi Or an hour.

user15026
@GraceNote Why do I have to potentially give up my anonymity and discomfort/irritation/hurtfeeling/triggering/offense to give warning to someone who i offending me (intentional or otherwise)? This is a public room, people should think before they type, regardless of how lax or whatnot the Bridge is purported to be.

@OrigamiRobot Have you seen the full grallery?

10:08 PM
@GraceNote Negative

@GraceNote Not first offence, right?

I almost always get an hour now.

@AshleyNunn I'm not saying you have to give it up, I'm just explaining the reason why people are bit more up-in-arms about chat flags over site flags.

I still think someone needs to open a meta thread about our chat flagging.

user15026
@GraceNote Fair enough, but I don't understand why it is a problem - the system is in place for a reason. I should not have to explain why something is offensive before I flag it.

10:09 PM
@AshleyNunn Is it fair to assume anyone will know exactly what offends you if you don't communicate that offence in any way, shape or form?

@GraceNote I was about to say "grallery?" until I noticed the context

@GnomeSlice You do it :P

user15026
@ArdaXi Is it fair to assume that people can just freely say what they like?

@AshleyNunn Yes.

10:10 PM
@OrigamiRobot That wouldn't be constructive or I'd have done it already.

Until they are informed otherwise, of course.

@GnomeSlice Why not?

user15026
@ArdaXi Then why have a flagging system at all?

For example, there have been incidents in the past which I shall not name in which I have used language which offended someone, without my knowing it. They informed me, and I adapted.
@AshleyNunn As a last resort, if someone won't listen or is systematically problematic.

@OrigamiRobot Because I get suspended for saying 'Shut up'. You really think anyone is going to take a meta thread written by me seriously.

10:11 PM
@GraceNote None.
@GnomeSlice I would. It doesn't have to come off as whining.

@GnomeSlice I would

@GnomeSlice I would.

@GnomeSlice Depends on the number of full screen, meme-based images you want to use in the question body.

@GraceNote I recognize this one!
@RavenDreamer Let me think about that. None. I don't see the fascination with gigantic meme images.
@GraceNote How do you get a different gravatar per site, anyway?

10:13 PM
@GraceNote If you ever found a LoD picture that you like, I'd recognize exactly one.

@GnomeSlice username+sitename@domainname.com

@OrigamiRobot So you never had a Super Nintendo, did you?

@ArdaXi Pardon?

Well, IIRC SE uses Gmail.
And Gmail ignores everything past a + sign.

(The fact that only two of those come non-obscure SNES titles is besides the point)

10:14 PM
@ArdaXi So I need to make a new account for each site?

So if I had arda@gmail.com for example, I could use arda+gaming@gmail.com

@GraceNote Which one should I recognize?

@GnomeSlice No, arda+gaming@gmail.com is sent to arda@gmail.com

Oh.
I need to register a new email with each site?

And Gravatar allows you to set up multiple emails and multiple avatars.

@RavenDreamer That was such a serious post.
@RavenDreamer That one too.

I know.

Oh. I get it.
No, I get it now.
ಠ_ಠ
@RavenDreamer How did you even find those?
They're deleted.

That's not a problem for us

If anything, I think you posting a serious meta topic would do more to rehabilitate your image than anything else.
3

10:16 PM
@GnomeSlice He's a mod.

So I say... go for it! o/

I can see them because I have some kind of Chrome userscript, I guess, but I wouldn't have been able to find them.
@RavenDreamer I've posted lots of serious meta topics...

@GnomeSlice You can see them since they're your questions.

Q: Background Bullying Me On My Meta Profile

GnomeSlice Possible Duplicate: Left side of profile page is cut off Clearly the background on Meta has never heard of 'personal space'. Can someone deal with this jerk?

@GnomeSlice So post more!

10:17 PM
@RavenDreamer No, you still can't see deleted posts.

@GnomeSlice 10kers can see recently deleted posts, for values of recent of maximum of 30 days.

@ArdaXi I don't have 10k.

Q: Obese Icon on Meta

GnomeSliceI've noticed that the inbox notification icon on Meta seems to have put on a little weight. Depicted below are the icons of both sites, with the main site on top, and meta on the bottom.

I think I added a Chrome userscript at some point, that let me view deleted posts.

Ah, well.

The vote counts show up as '?'

@OrigamiRobot Just... any of the SNES ones, really, is what I had hoped. Granted, again, there are only two, so that means two games out of that entire era, so the possibility of you not having played those is, well, it's not that small.

10:19 PM
But people don't vote on or flag things based on the correct criteria any more.
It's similar to why this got so many downvotes:
2
Q: Questions about the portrayal of women in games

GnomeSliceThere's been a huge debate over a question asked by me on the main site: How are women portrayed in King's Bounty: Armored Princess? It's been closed three times already. We should come to a resolution on this.

@GnomeSlice You're implying they ever have.

Even though a meta topic is what you're supposed to do when there's a controversial thing on the site, those four people just didn't like the idea and downvoted the meta thread as well, when they should have only downvoted the site question.

@GnomeSlice Whoa I just went here and saw that I upvoted it before.

I don't know Ian's history, what with him being a young'un, so I don't really have any faith in him getting a lot of the avatar images, though.

@StrixVaria Why is that a problem?

Q: Help me identify this Nes battle game

MoonlighterI remember playing this on my nes.It must be a classic, since all the games i owned turned out to be. *It was produced by nintendo You controlled a kind of tower\radar, in a battle agains other war vehicles. The goal was to invade\destroy the enemy's base. The game was set in a outdoor ambient. I...

@GraceNote He hates JRPGs so he would not recognize any that fit that criteria.

@GnomeSlice I was just surprised since you used it as an example of something getting a lot of downvotes. And then I go there and I upvoted it.
Usually I'm the first to downvote stuff.

@StrixVaria You do it for the right reasons though.

Hey, I upvoted that too.

The question's vote count should reflect the community's opinion of whether or not it's a goof fit for the site, not the meta thread's vote count.

Q: Should we consider some kind of escalation when flagging in chat?

JamesSo, I found out about the flagging system in the chat area the hard way today (Its only the action as I do not know how to link to transcripts and its not like I can go to chat and ask like I normally do). From what I can gather it seems to be a 30min ban per flagging, or maybe I got more than on...

And while we were waiting...
haha

HAH.

@OrigamiRobot That's actually only about 1/3 of them, if you include strategy and tactical RPGs in the mix.

@RavenDreamer NOT IRONY

@RavenDreamer Perhaps, really, the solution that would work in both meeting halfway with @AshleyNunn's points, is that resolving the flag should be something handled better, not necessarily how the incident is brought up to begin with.

@GraceNote at work ATM; can't tell how many I (don't) know

10:26 PM
@GraceNote Yes, I agree.

Bleh, gravatar is too complicated.

@OrigamiRobot The irony is that we were trying to convince @GnomeSlice to post it, and before we could do so, someone else did.
Why do you think that's not ironic?

As it stands the current methodology doesn't encourage much past "Look and confirm". Whereas, in the site system, a moderator who sees a borderline offensive thing is probably going to swoop in and say 'Oi, you, quit that wording!".
@IanPugsley Up to you if you feel like it after work, not gonna push this on you like I did with Mana.
@OrigamiRobot I looked for a nice image that I would like to use, but not been successful in that endeavor.

@RavenDreamer That's not what irony is. There is no incongruity.

@GraceNote if I get higher than zero I will be amazed

10:29 PM
@IanPugsley I will be happy, because that would put you higher than @agent86.

@GraceNote It's pretty much "Fastest to click decides the flag", if you take your time and look up the transcript, the flags are usually handled when you're back

room topic changed to The Bridge: General Chat Room for Gaming.SE. The main quarters of Gaming's SEI AskQuestion Mothership, wherein we compare and contrast the relative merits of LASERs and LAZERS and their patented applications in diamond making and cat exercising. [hint-lazers-win-big-time]

@Fabian Yeah, so it is. I saw the blue and before I could even click on the flag icon on my gravatar, it already got blasted.
...I think Strix might be able to get over 0 on that image.

@OrigamiRobot You're being pedantic.

But that's because I know (or at least, figure) that he enjoys strategy RPGs.

10:30 PM
@RavenDreamer Someone is a sore loser. :P

@RavenDreamer he ususally is

Okay, I give up. I cannot figure out how to change my gravatar.

@GnomeSlice You change your email on your account.

@GraceNote How do I use a different email for two SE sites?

@GnomeSlice By... editing your profile.
We don't push changes unless you tell us to.

10:32 PM
HOW I DO DIS
'my logins'?

It's not the login field, it's specifically the field "email" when you edit your account.

@RavenDreamer I don't think pointing out the difference between coincidence and irony is pedantic.

I don't see any edit button.

Look left of "my logins"

10:33 PM
That's your meta profile. Go to the main site.

I want to change my Meta avatarrrrr.

Your meta avatar is the same as your main avatar. No chance.

What.
But.

@GraceNote Most of those seem like art from a manual. I did not own an SNES and so did not read any manuals for SNES games I played.

@GraceNote Your SO and Meta SO avatars are different.

10:34 PM
@GraceNote hey, I identified your current avatar. so :P

@GraceNote except on MSO?

I'm just not any good at these "fanart" versions of characters. chances are I've played at least a few of the games that they came from, although I missed out on a large chunk of the PS1 era :(

@GnomeSlice MSO and SO are not in a main-meta relationship

Ah, crepe.
That's annoying.

@OrigamiRobot Only seven actually are artwork from their respective games, though an additional two of them are from the same artists as the original works.

10:37 PM
@GraceNote, how do I view all of them at once? I feel like you linked there at one point.

27 mins ago, by Grace Note
For @Ian and @Origami: http://so.mrozekma.com/gravatars/30498037-168a-4055-a849-0c31c2b1d863
To be fair, I will note that Photo, Stats, TeX, Maths, Unix, Bicycles, Apple, SharePoint, and Skeptics are all not actually thematically matching, directly or otherwise.
All of the others match either the site's theme or some other symbolic nature of that site, either obviously or subtly or as part of a really stupid pun.

@GraceNote are you using Cho'gath girl somewhere?

You need more gravatars like this:

Post the link, not the image, please.

Wow, that got removed before it even finished loading on my screen.

10:40 PM
@RavenDreamer That's on Area 51, which the API doesn't touch.

and add a (possibly NSFW)

So, yeah, if @Origami had seen that, he might've possibly recognized her.

@GraceNote You need more Gravatars like this (probably nsfw).
Not that I would recognize any more of them than your current selection.
Which is none.

@GnomeSlice Part of the unspoken criteria (and by extension why I haven't just gone with the Meru I can currently find for Legend of Dragoon) is that I also have to like the image, and I'm not really entirely fond of that kind of image, so to speak.

Is that from a thing, or is it just generic anime art?
LEGEND OF DRAGOOOON?!

10:43 PM
@GnomeSlice I'm so proud of you :P

@RavenDreamer I have no idea, I googled 'hot anime girl'.

facepalm

@OrigamiRobot don't be, the first one got removed.
And with that, my homework is finished for tonight.

@RavenDreamer To be fair, I think he was more focusing on the "aesthetic" of that image than on who the actual character was. If he had already forgotten the spoken criteria for my selections, I'd have to find new and unusual ways to hurt him.

Ah shit, I've only asked two soul calibur V questions?

10:44 PM
@GnomeSlice The other day? That was my fault. I didn't know all flags resulted in suspension. I was at work and panicked.

@GraceNote criteria?
@OrigamiRobot What?

Oh, speaking of which, @GnomeSlice, you know that rainbow-y unicorn girl picture you've posted a couple times? Did you know that's actually supposed to be from Robot Unicorn Attack?

I thought you were proud of me for posting that image as a text link.
@GraceNote That's... strange.

@GnomeSlice Yes

But unsurprising, I guess.

10:45 PM
When you've see depictions of SOPA and PIPA as ladies, you start to stop being surprised at those things, yeah.

Heh.

A day or two ago you posted an image that you quickly converted to a link.

@OrigamiRobot Someone asked me to.

@GnomeSlice Right and you still got suspended. That was my bad.

Feb 2 at 19:14, by Grace Note
The requirements for my images are: "Must originate from a video game", and "Must be a girl, girl or otherwise". I am currently also trying to keep up a "Don't use any IP more than once"

10:47 PM
@GraceNote Oh, I thought you were talking about the criteria you JUST posted.

Though I admit I have now dropped the "Don't use any IP more than once" thanks to, in fact, this Outdoors image.

4 mins ago, by Grace Note
@GnomeSlice Part of the unspoken criteria (and by extension why I haven't just gone with the Meru I can currently find for Legend of Dragoon) is that I also have to like the image, and I'm not really entirely fond of that kind of image, so to speak.

@GraceNote What's the difference between a girl and a girl?

@GraceNote I don't even know what IP means.

@GnomeSlice Notice the word "unspoken" there, which differentiates itself from the part where I said "spoken".

10:48 PM
@GnomeSlice intellectual property. i.e., a series

@GraceNote Ah, right.

@RavenDreamer Well, take Cho'Gath as an example of the "otherwise" department.

Legend of Dragoon was my first favorite RPG that I totally would have rocked at if I had actually owned a playstation.

Oh right. I know what Intellectual Property is. I've played Wallace and Gromit's Sprocket Rocket.

10:49 PM
@RavenDreamer I rocked at Legend of Dragoon despite owning only a PS2 and not LoD.

@GraceNote It had timed hits.

hm, suspension drama while I was alt-tabbed :o

I actually have no clue on Fallen's potential success rate if I think about it.

@GnomeSlice Woooooh, Wallace and Gromit!

I got LoD back in the days where I knew nothing about games before I aquired them and they were mostly aquired through random gifts.

10:50 PM
@RavenDreamer Aye, did.

Just to be clear, that Wallace and Gromit game is fantastic. It's one of my favourite browser games of all time.

@OrigamiRobot I borrowed it from the same person who I got advice on FF7 from, way back in the day.

@GraceNote potential... success rate?

@RedriderX Have you actually played it? :D

@GraceNote I played FF7 after LoD and hated it for not being LoD.

10:50 PM
@RavenDreamer On identifying images from the Grallery.

@OrigamiRobot Haha, lots of people I hear about are the opposite - LoD gets so much ire for being considered a "clone" in terms of plot. I liked both, myself.

@GnomeSlice Not this game actually, but I just really like Wallace and Gromit.

@ArdaXi To be fair, when people bring up the fact that certain language may make them uncomfortable here, people do say stuff to the effect of "lighten up/don't take it seriously/it's just a joke" which basically says "You're not justified to complain about this."

This is pretty much how I imagine @GraceNote looks.

10:52 PM
I have played Shaun the Sheep games though.

Plus or minus the wheelchair.
But keeping the missile thing.

I'm flattered ♪

@GraceNote I didn't care about the story at the time. I liked the mechanics a lot better.

@GraceNote And terrifying.

Which in turn makes people less likely to feel comfortable about bringing up what they may find offensive publicly

10:52 PM
@GnomeSlice Seems about right...

@OrigamiRobot I like the attack nature. I wasn't entirely impressed with the elements outside of attacking, and this is even from a perspective that loves item combat.

@GraceNote You just like that he gave you a massive weapon.

@RavenDreamer I have a shirt that in no uncertain terms talks about Japan having "Sailor Suited Mecha Babes Wielding World Cleaving Daiklaves", so, yes, specifically because it's also a missile launcher.

Here's a fun game, see how many random anime girls posted from a google search @GraceNote can identify.

@GraceNote Well if I'm not looking at the story, that pretty much leaves only combat. Also, I am a master at pressing a button really fast.

10:54 PM
@GnomeSlice Chances are slim, actually.

Fark, first link and it's broken.

@GnomeSlice I thought that was funnier, honestly.

Lets start with those.

You might want to use text links, for starters

Aaaand... GO
@GraceNote I might.
Or I might not.
I have no idea if any of those are just unnamed drawings, but I think the top one at least is from a series of some sort.

10:57 PM
You're taking up too much vertical real estate.

@RavenDreamer v...vertical.

I knew that.

@GnomeSlice For the sake of not pushing everyone else out of the way, please use text links.

I said I was only going to post those three, and I'm not changing them to text links.

10:58 PM
@GnomeSlice Heeey, Zodiac symbols.

@RavenDreamer Hey, she's my sign.

@GnomeSlice I meant because of the size of the images.

@GraceNote I was aware.

Data size?

The problem is that text linked image URLs can give it away.
