Supposedly a high-graphics port of Doom.

Interesting.

I dunno, Serious Sam HD looked somewhat better than the original one.
@Wipqozn Do I look like a (capitalist) pig?

Turns out I'm not!

There. I knew I had the quote slightly wrong.
I really should read through Animal Farm again.

Q: Is His Dark Materials suitable reading for children in Christian homes?

JoseKHis Dark Materials contains overt criticisms of a controlling Church and forced removal of free will. But these are quite popular as children's literature around the world. The question to others is whether they recognize the sub-text and allow children to read and form their own views, or are the books considered harmless in the religious respect?
Am I reading this correctly? Because it sounds to me like the it's saying letting your children form there own views is harmful.

@Wipqozn Letting you form your own typo there is harmful

@Wipqozn That's exactly what it's saying.

11:47 AM
@ArdaXi That's what I thought. Thank you for confirming I wasn't reading it wrong.
@badp Indeed.

But I knew that when I read the title really.

Yeah, the title is what caught my attention.

Well, I don't know what the community of Literature is like, but I would be very wary of allowing questions like these.

Christianity is harmed by logic and opinion, so the answer is yes.

@RonanForman I think it's a good idea to keep these kinds of debates out of this chatroom.

11:51 AM
I don't remember any religious subtext but it's a while since I read it.

@ArdaXi I agree. It won't lead to anywhere good.

I can't delete in the mobile site, any mods around?

@Wipqozn I like debating and I do it often enough, just... a time and a place.
@RonanForman @badp is.
I think so, anyway.

@ArdaXi SAme here, actually. I enjoy a good debate, but you need to be careful the topics you bring up and where. Religion is one of the more touchy ones, and considering how diverse our chatroom is I could see it leading to a lot of problems.

@Wipqozn Exactly.

11:54 AM
Isn't @ArdaXi a room owner?
If so I think he could delete it.

@Wipqozn Nope.

@ArdaXi I don't have a problem with the question itself, but I think the wording could be improved.
The question to others is whether they recognize the sub-text and allow children to read and form their own views, or are the books considered harmless in the religious respect?

I must say, I have no idea how many of our community (at least in chat) is religious.

I'm pretty sure that would lead to trouble.
After all, if you're Christian you probably don't want to buy your children books that takes jabs on your religion.

@Wipqozn The question itself is rather dangerous, seeing as there are Christians who think Harry Potter was written by Satan himself and there are those who'll allow reading Dawkins.

11:57 AM
@ArdaXi Yeah, it's a fine line I agree. In fact I think the question itself should be reworded. What the question is really asking is does the book have strong criticisms of religion, which is a fine question.

Fair enough, but that does mean rewording the entire question.
(Keeping the answer in-tact)

Yeah it would, but that's what the core question really is.

Yeah.

Editing questions again are we?

@ArdaXi Nor I. I do believe this room has a liberal slant though, which can often imply a non-religious slant.
@RonanForman Maybe :P

Also, I love Gustav Holst's The Planets
The Planets, Op. 32, is a seven-movement orchestral suite by the English composer Gustav Holst, written between 1914 and 1916. Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the Solar System and its corresponding astrological character as defined by Holst. With the exception of Earth, which is not observed in astrological practice, all the planets are represented. From its premiere to the present day, the suite has been enduringly popular, influential, widely performed and the subject of numerous recordings. However, it had a protracted birth. Why bother starting an argument about religion? It just seems kind of silly as long as neither parties are using their religion in a way that offends other people.

It's interesting though that you're only interested in arguing in stuff you've already made up your mind about
