@VTCAKAVSMoACE Is it really not a sure thing, up to this vote?

wait, so they're voting now on whether or not to leave?

Yes (well, tallying the votes now) - google.com/?ion=1&espv=2#q=brexit%20results

@Maltysen Whether they want to leave. Parliament decides.

they finished voting several hours ago
mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/… (scroll down a bit)

What's the argument for leaving? The EU could be like a new US (or is that the reason? :p)

@HelkaHomba the main argument is "we hate immigrants"

@Geobits I'd say there's more than one

If there's more than one, you can choose among them. You don't need to output them all.
That's pretty much the standard answer to that, right?

New South Humpbacks (or is that Australia?)

St. Ashtonbury's Mill
You could do pub names instead, but I think that's pretty much nothing but {the adj noun} or {the noun & noun}.
As in The Smirking Butterknife or The Pen and Waffle.

The Willied Doodle

The Brown Keg
wow that works

@Upgoat That's all Greek cheese to me

TypeScript is painful

TIL: the logo of cheddar.com is not even Cheddar cheese ಠ_ಠ
@Quill what's new?

@Upgoat how much are you offering them to buy that domain? :P

1000 pounds of upside down goat cheddar cheese

4:49 AM
@Upgoat that's even crappier than the usual straw poll

a deal one cannot decline!
Cheddar cheese is around $1.474 per pound so $1,474

@Upgoat I'm miscommunicating here... TypeScript >=1.5 is alright (I wouldn't use it, but it's not bad.). Pre that version, a few syntax stuff was different (and that's when most of the ES6 syntax took precedence over theirs, which means I have quite a bit of pre-es6-but-kinda-es6 code to clean
Add AngularJS to the mix and you have a shitstorm of painful proportions

oh god angular... I tried to make TeaScript interpreter page in angular and it was horrible. Idk I've tried TS before though I just find it redundant when you can use babel and do the same for less

TypeScript Compiler and Babel are both transpilers, Babel is just built for plain JS, whereas TypeScript has ES6 & ES2015 integration, but TS compiler supports TypeScript as well

@Quill yeah, but I'm sure also TS compiler is slower and i dont liked having typed stuff in non-typed language, it's redundant imo

4:55 AM
Actually they're pretty close in speeds
TypeScript's not bad, it's just not amazing

everyone, stop trying to build more and more stuff on top of js, you're just making it worse :/
js is bad enough already

I was originally designing Adynata to be like TypeScript, but without JS non-typed-ness
@aditsu how about no

^
@Quill did you finished adynata?

No, I don't know how to design a tokenizer correctly

5:01 AM
you can install a plugin to fix that

@Upgoat is that what you use?

so, my phone is great for OCR-and-translate (with google translate), but copying the results to my computer is a major pain, what's the solution?

@Quill I made my own grammar parser but that wasn't a good idea. I just spent the whole day debugging when I relized I should of been using result.Index on this line instead of parser.Index >_>

Github question: Do you ever raise issues on your own project?

Do you ever identify issues in your own life that need resolving

5:06 AM
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan yeah

Or do you just tell others about their problems?

@Quill yes, the fact my name and my direction contradict each other

@Quill When I do, I generally don't write them down on the internet. :P

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan As a todo list, yeah

you have no idea how hard it is to get through immigration like this

5:08 AM
@aditsu I've read that specific article and many like it before, and the common "reasons" for JavaScript disinterest are A) the former standards issue B) Web frameworks are created with more pace than corporately managed frameworks like PHP, ASP.NET C) People like ES6 so they use transpilers D) Modules are small, so the projects have lots of modules
rapid development obviously equals bad things

Anonymous
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan I've done it on Seriously. In fact, 2 out of the 4 currently-open issues on Seriously were opened by me

IE market share appears to be doing yoga

And "== is broken in javascript" is a bullshit copout reason for disliking javascript because people are generally too ignorant to understand implicit type coercion

Anonymous
Rapid development is good for people who stay on the bleeding edge. It's not great for people who are out of the loop. By the time they learn about the latest tech, it's already obselete.

Anonymous
@Quill What about "implicit type coercion is bad"? Is that a valid reason?

5:12 AM
OK, thanks. I didn't think there was anything wrong with it, I just felt weird opening my own issue several times in the last 2 days. I was wondering your philosophy.

Don't like implicit type coercion? Use strict mode.

Anonymous
If there's an issue, open an issue. It doesn't matter who owns the project.

I think people generally understand implicit type coercion, and hate it with a passion when it leads to absurd results

Anonymous
@Quill Or just use a language that doesn't do implicit type coercion

@Mego it's not inherently bad. Being able to do "2 + 2 = " + 4 is a lot more understandable than sprintf("2 + 2 = %n", 4)
@aditsu you do absurd things like [] + {} I'm not sure why you would be expecting sane results

Anonymous
5:15 AM
@Upgoat I disagree. While your simple example may be nice and non-confusing, in real-world-code examples, explicit makes much more sense to me than implicit. I'm also not a huge fan of C-style string formatting.

Anonymous
@Upgoat It's [] > {}, and we don't talk about Python 2's type comparisons. It was a dark time.

@HelkaHomba "I've never had peanut butter" option pls

@Upgoat I'd rather kill myself

Though there are many instances where chunky peanut butter is unacceptable - on pancakes/waffles, for example.

What? Jam without seeds is basically dense, oversweet jello

@HelkaHomba that's bullshit, the UI on that is mavericks at least, and I got my macbook with Mountain Lion that had cut and paste

hmm, in fact what I really want is the OCR part
the translate app has options for sharing the translated text but not the original :|

@aditsu google drive mobile app has ocr builtin
you can take a pic, ocr, open on computer, and translate.google.com

I uploaded an image to drive on my computer and converted it to a doc, it was pretty bad; I'll try your suggestion too
@Maltysen how do you ocr it?

ah ok, so it's the same thing I tried before, with terrible results

@Quill Well, I must continue to reject Apple as long as modularity is near impossible. You can't even put a normal hard drive in the new, round Mac Pro ._.

Can someone give me the skinny on this UK business
I don't want to internet

@Poke UK did a referendum to know if it should leave the EU
And they decided to leave

but how does it affect the world

@Poke UK voted to leave the EU ("Brexit") ... highly divisive issue, as last I saw it was something like 51% leave 49% remain

And it's messing with a lot of things

1:23 PM
Was there an "I don't really care" option in the poll?

yeah, it's called playing video games instead of voting
4

FAIR ENOUGH! take a star

Well, probably one of the big things is that it shows a lack of confidence in the EU as a concept
It's fueled worry that Germany may follow suit, in which case the EU itself may collapse.
It's prompted a very harsh currency valuation reaction (as alluded to by Helka above)

interesting... why is there such an impact? I was ignorant of their politics and frankly I still am. (I live in the US)

the full effects remain to be seen, but it has definitely increased the uncertainty and instability in the world economy
@Poke it creates a precedent, and there are fairly high levels of anger in several countries due to the refugee problem

1:29 PM
@Poke Well, the "Leave" mentality draws a lot of parallels to Trump's mentality -- nationalism, border protection, distrust of "the elites" after the Great Recession

mm, well back to my bubble

Trump has actually gone and loudly praised the brexit

Agh. Breaking stories into smaller, more manageable units is making them less manageable

@Rainbolt user stories?

We broke a user story into the sunny day, "Everything is filled out correctly" scenario and the "Oh my god what is the user trying to do" scenario
And here's the kicker: someone jumped ahead and completed the second one first.
Now the team is arguing

1:32 PM
That's two separate branches but not great subtasks if i'm understanding correctly. You should be aiming for vertical slices when splitting up user stories

I am seriously writing down those words you just said for our retrospective

each subtask should be able to stand on its own

"vertical slices"

@TimmyD I heard you reached the 6000 mark

That's great advice, thanks @Poke
