@TimmyD thanks :) (for the comment)

Anyone knows, how to detect when a new message is posted in the chat?
Sorry, wrong message

well I don't

._.

@Bálint Click the button on the left of "all rooms"

@HelkaHomba I mean programatically
Ok, I found a way with Mutation observers
Can someone come to beep boop maggot to test something?

2:17 PM
Chat mini-challenge: Given three integers as input, output the sum of their permuted absolute distances. Example -- 5,7,8 should output 6 (since |(5-7)|+|(7-8)|+|(5-8)| = 2+1+3 = 6).

Q: I only pay with dollars

DopappAs the title--although discreetly--hints, I only pay with dollars. The challenge Write a function/program that takes a string as input, which is a monetary value preceded by a symbol. ex) £4.99. Then, return that same amount converted to USD. @TimmyD Pyth: 7 bytes: saM.cQ2

Ah, you fell into the trap. :D (though, in Pyth, it may not be shorter).

@TimmyD what trap?

It's just twice the distance between the max and the min
the middle value doesn't matter

2:26 PM
Oh, I thought it can have four integers

@TimmyD shortest I can come up with Mathematica is 2Max@#-2Min@#&
I also tried using MinMax (which gives you a list of both of those) but extracting them is too expensive

@TimmyD Pyth: 6 bytes: yeSaM*

possibly more scary than the UK stuff eff.org/deeplinks/2016/06/…

absolute difference of all pairs, take the largest, doubles.

2:34 PM
@LeakyNun can I take two arrays instead of an array of pairs?
Also, good morning TNB!

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan it was my method, not another challenge

Oh. Haha, silly me.

Anyone know AutoHotkey?

I do not. One of my first challenges I ever posted was answered (and won) in auto hot key.

@HelkaHomba I'm alright at it

2:39 PM
PowerShell v2+, 40 bytes -- 2*[math]::Abs(($a=$args|sort)[-1]-$a[0]) ... pretty long because of the [math]::Abs call

@DanTheMan Is ControlSend, , {Shift down}r{Shift up}, Audacity the proper way to send Shift+R to an unfocused Audacity window
It seems to work, just making sure
And how to send space?

@Rainbolt and other guys who play Magic: You can now play the site's moderators in a Magic Set Editor set! bpaste.net/raw/488218b3607c
The link is only a base64'd file of the set.

Because of the drastic change in exchange rates against the GBP, internet.xyz rates just got a bit (not much, about 20 US cts avg.) cheaper.

Dang, "Leave" won over "Remain", and it was really close too.

2:57 PM

I actually went to Imgur expecting to see stuff on Brexit, and almost immediately saw this:
user image

Ooooooh there's a Brexit tag on Imgur!

I guess the EU now has ( •_•)>⌐■-■
(⌐■_■) 1 GB of free space.
20

Hahaha, yes.
Also, I really like this one:
And then there's this top comment...
> we'll get our chance in november.

@El'endiaStarman Tomorrow's another day ;-)

The British pound is at a 31 year low

3:07 PM
@mınxomaτ -_-

Can someone come to beep boop maggot? I need to create the inputs for my bot

oh no what are these kitties now supposed to do :(

is there an smbc onebox

I don't think so
But you can try

The only webcomic that one-boxes is xkcd.

3:17 PM
@orlp To be fair they won't officially leave the EU for two years (and some months) I believe

@HelkaHomba just look at them
poor kitties :(

2 years is like 10 years to a cat

@HelkaHomba Yeah there's a built in two year discussion period for leaving the EU
Which can be extended

And it presumably won't be invoked until there's a new PM, October at soonest

That is likely

3:26 PM
Woo! Thanks to Joey, PowerShell is now tied with CJam again on the YYYYMM-to-MMMYY challenge! :D

@TimmyD The YYYYMM-to-MMMYY challenge?
o_O

41
Q: Convert YYYYMM to MMMYY

pajonkBasing on this SO question. Challenge is rather simple: given a date period in the format YYYYMM output it in the format MMMYY. Rules: The input will be a number or a string exactly 6 characters long, consisting only of digits. Last two digits will be between 01 and 12. Output must be in the ...

I'm partially done with the bot, who wants to try it out?

@Bálint I do!

3:44 PM
@El'endiaStarman :/
Kek, rest in pieces pound

3:59 PM
Informal Survey -- what was everyone's first computer?
For me, it was a Commodore VIC-20 when I was about 5.

Pentium 4 hyper threading
dual core

@TimmyD First computer that we specifically owned?

@TimmyD Yeesh I can't even remember. Some super generic Compaq laptop I think.

@El'endiaStarman Well, that you were able to use. I didn't have my own computer that I bought with my own money until the Pentium-II days.

@TimmyD eMachine running windows 95

4:02 PM
@TimmyD Well, then that'd mean my first computer was the family computer, a desktop that was either HP or Dell.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ I'm so sorry.

@TimmyD yes
I remember being able to sit at the computer to upgrade it to XP, then Vista.

Win 98 I believe, though my maternal grandparents had a Win 95 machine that I played games on when we went to visit.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the aforementioned laptop was running Windows 95

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ You didn't have to sit on the computer. Poor computer. Already its running Windows 95.

4:04 PM
Not a proud moment in my life

@Optimizer at = the chair next to it

@mınxomaτ GB != UK, I give this joke 2/10 for being inaccurate

I also remember playing an interesting game on a computer at church (I would've been 8 or 9 or something). Until they locked it or deleted the game or something. I don't remember enough details to be confident in finding it again.

My first Unix-like was my O2

it failed and shut down 3 times during hte install (that wasn't supposed to happen)

4:05 PM
Also, my first computer game was most wanted

@Fatalize But scotland might stay, so great britain might leave by itself.

Commodore VIC-20, Packard Bell 486-DX with Win 3.11, IBM Pentium with Win95 ... those were all family computers and since then I've built my own (excepting my Microsoft Surface).

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Scotland is part of GB
Northern Ireland isn't

@Fatalize I just did a referendum with myself and the result is that I don't care about your rating.

4:06 PM
GB is basically the big island

@Upgoat hypothetically, if someone were to answer one of your old challenges with code that is shorter than the accepted answer, would you change accepted answers?

@TimmyD You built your own home computer?

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 ?
That's not unusual at all

4:08 PM
@El'endiaStarman Oh, I know that feeling. I played a text adventure game when I was around 8 that had the upper-left corner as a static picture. And there were these abandoned buildings, and I think a werewolf, and eventually you found and repaired a sailboat. Yeah ... totally have been able to find that game.
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 Not from raw circuits and chips, but individually sourcing the components and assembling it.

@HelkaHomba gosh you make me wait...

@TimmyD My grandpa built his computer, and is trying to figure out how to get it to play cassettes I think now.
It's sad.

you young whipper snappers and your CDs and DVDs and Blurays

> Blue rays
ftfy

Blue raise.
Blew raze.

4:17 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ You remember when you asked how deep the Sourcemod rabbit hole was?
Well I get to slog through a bunch of shit that looks like this:
CBaseAnimating - team_control_point
- m_iszPrintName (Offset 1184) (Save|Key)(4 Bytes) - point_printname
- m_iCPGroup (Offset 1420) (Save|Key)(4 Bytes) - point_group
- m_iDefaultOwner (Offset 1172) (Save|Key)(4 Bytes) - point_default_owner
- m_iPointIndex (Offset 1416) (Save|Key)(4 Bytes) - point_index
- m_iWarnOnCap (Offset 1180) (Save|Key)(4 Bytes) - point_warn_on_cap
- m_iszWarnSound (Offset 1188) (Save|Key)(4 Bytes) - point_warn_sound
- m_iszCaptureStartSound (Offset 1444) (Save|Key)(4 Bytes) - point_capture_start_sound
except there's 119382 lines
I don't even think the field I want is networked, fml

Those are datamaps for entities; it's the layout of the fields as they are sent in a game update packet
But the one field I want is called "Previous Required Point" and I don't think it's networked (or even exists in-game, it might be a Hammer thing)
So I get to see if it's in some other entity. tf_objective_resource perhaps
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ There are times when I admire Source. This is not one of those times.
And to think all I wanted was the map's control points in order

perhaps you could step out of the rabbit hole for a minute to help me with J? I am legit confused

What's the matter?

@Fatalize loser.com

@aditsu oh no iframes
ew

Commodore VIC-20, 486DX-50, then a Pentium 133, Pentium II 333, Pentium III 450, Pentium III 900, AMD Athlon T-bird 1.1GHz, Athlon T-Bred 2600+, Athlon Barton 3200+, Intel Core 2 Duo E4xx (can't remember exactly), and then Core i7's since.

@aditsu Wow. Someone actually bought that domain for that sole purpose.

@quartata what's wrong?

4:27 PM
@El'endiaStarman It was probably pretty expensive too
@aditsu iframes are the bane of literally everything

@TimmyD How do you remember all your previous computers? o.O
@quartata Exactly.

@quartata nah, php is

@quartata Got a small loan of 1 million dollars to buy that domain, life was not easy

@El'endiaStarman I still have probably 2/3rds of them. It also helps that I picked out the parts and assembled them myself

@El'endiaStarman it might not have been that sole purpose, but different purposes at different times

4:28 PM
@TimmyD Hah, yeah, that'd help a lot.
@aditsu Oh, good point.

@El'endiaStarman Do you not remember your old computers? I remember most of them pretty clearly

I also suppose it's like how some people remember cars they've owned.

@TimmyD you're talking as if everybody has owned a lot of different cars

Does nobody (but me) like seeds? strawpoll.me/10572922

@quartata I remember that my first laptop was a Toshiba, second was a Gateway, and my current and third is Asus. Beyond that, I have no idea what models they were/are. That said, I do remember the problems that my first two laptops had that lead to their replacement. :P

4:31 PM
@aditsu Not at all. I'm a computer nerd, fully admit it. I was making a comparison that some gearheads can remember exactly their entire car-owning history, down to the model of the transmission that they put in that one car back in their late 20s.

@HelkaHomba seeds in jam are like sand in your drink

@aditsu more like ice chips, which some people like

@HelkaHomba Shit I voted wrong
I was going to vote yes to both

@HelkaHomba no fifth option "no peanut butter/jam"

Oh well, guess I'll be the lonely "yes seeds no chunks" vote

4:33 PM
@quartata \o/

Yes to both here

"No seeds, no chunks!" <- Sounds like a slogan.

Depends on what type of jam. I'm pretty sure nobody in the world wants grape seeds in it.
Blackberries or raspberries, seeds are okay, but it's just as good without getting the seeds stuck in your teeth.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ If you dislike both pb and jam (together or individually) then there's no help for you anyhow

@Geobits Oh, that's a good point.
I guess I was picturing raspberry jam.

4:35 PM
Peach jam, now with pits!

An easy way to get 30% more production on your assembly line.

There may be a slight drop in sales though >_>

Well, if you make the price 20% cheaper per jar, you've just solved both issues.

^ serious business talk right there

@Geobits Well yes. But berry seeds are uber-nutritious (well maybe...they could well be)

4:38 PM
Anyway, I was just thinking about how a lot of programming job descriptions mention the ability to make RESTful applications, which seems to me like it might be a thing I know without knowing that I know it, if that makes sense. I've read some of the Wikipedia page on REST, but still don't quite get it. Anyone here whose job includes making RESTful stuff (typically APIs?)?

@aditsu It runs under Wine but Skyrim is already one of the most poorly optimized games I've ever seen, you'll probably get liek 5 fps with Wine overhead

so we're listing our history of computers? HC-90, 286, 486, K6 (?), Compaq pentium 2 266 (?), athlon 1.6 (?), pentium 4 2.66, core 2 E6400, core i5 6500 (laptops not included)

Not worth it.

,310 ,657 Thanks for the stars
8

Seems overhyped to me anyways. People just play it for the mods I suspect
@Optimizer Formatting isn't quite right :P

4:40 PM
@aditsu Nice.

Try getting rid of the commas

Or getting rid of the stars :P

@quartata ah shucks. fixed now

@aditsu You hung onto that P2-266 for a long while.

4:42 PM
@HelkaHomba SExit?

@HelkaHomba I voted remain, but only because the hookers and blackjack are optional. If they were mandatory you'd have my 'leave' vote.

Yeah, same here.

@TimmyD around 2 years maybe

@Fatalize better name, agreed

Doesn't SExit mean that SE is leaving instead of the other way around?

4:44 PM
meh

But it goes better with the hookers theme

lololol

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan depends... Probably

SE has already left though, still no community ads
We got SExited

@Optimizer that's absolutely horrifying!

4:45 PM
SE is so Sexist
@aditsu but it makes it look real and even

even - yes

ok.
:D

@Geobits Optional meaning freely available. Not absolutely mandatory to Leavers.

Right. I mean it should be mandatory.
If not for blackjack and hookers, why would you even want to leave in the first place? :P

Well you can earmark that on
(is that the right term?)

4:48 PM
However, just like the Brexit ref, these straw polls don't seem to be binding :/

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ Had to get some sleep, it was past misnight in PST >_>

Port St Thomas?

I'd want to leave so that we can get automatic scoring, winners by language, statistics and stuff

@aditsu With fewer immigrants from other SE sites

I'm not concerned about that part :p

4:51 PM
o_o That straw poll was months old. Nobody had to vote against me now :(

Kick CodeReviewers out!

Nov 7 '15 at 21:41, by Martin Büttner
@flawr This community would die if it was decoupled from the SE network.

Hey, there's an official Brexit straw poll
Holy smokes 17 votes agreeing with the result (out of 51 votes)

turns out that Martin Büttner guy said a lot of things I agree with...

4:52 PM
I agree it would probably kill the community.
@MartinEnder He looks just like you too. Uncanny, really.
Good turtle

@Upgoat Could you please come to the zyabinVI beta room?

Chat mini challenge: take your PPCG user ID (the number in the URL on your profile page). Go to http://codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/<user_id>. Beat it.
(If that takes you to a challenge, win the challenge instead.)

so, I have to ask.. wth are "community ads"?

(If the challenge is closed, try improving it to get it reopened.)

@MartinEnder Did I win?

4:58 PM
@MartinEnder Mine takes me to codegolf.stackexchange.com/tags/go/info

@MartinEnder cool idea, but.. page not found

That's rather unfortunate.

VTC as unclear what I should do now.

@MartinEnder I got a deleted answer...

4:59 PM
how do some of these lead to tag wikis o.O

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 that's an easter egg about you MtG thing

Tag wikis are probably answers, too.

@MartinEnder That's funny. Two 404s, two tag wikis, and one deleted answer. Maybe you should've sandboxed this first. :P
