Does JSFiddle block $.get() requests to external websites? I feel like there's no way it blocks them, but I don't understand how something like this doesn't work: jsfiddle.net/kok09r88/1

@PhiNotPi It says "no library" on the side

@phase I have jQuery loaded in the HTML. Changing the side doesn't fix it.

@phase It's possible that the IT staff has blocked applications sourced from the user folder from running ... so, while extremely unlikely, it is technically possibly accurate

I am using a Mac OSX Terminal and I cannot get it to display text of different colours. Could anyone please help?

8:07 PM
@ΚριτικσιΛίθος This is literally what StackOverflow was made for stackoverflow.com/questions/1550288/mac-os-x-terminal-colors

It did not solve my problem...

did you restart your console?
are you using a third party one?
are there bananas in your ocean?

is there a trivial brainfuck derivative that behaves exactly like brainfuck except ? has a 50% chance to add 1 to the current cell and otherwise does nothing, or something like that

I restarted my console.
I am using the inbuilt terminal.
Which ocean are you talking about?

with enough effort you can do nearly anything in brainfuck but it's always deterministic

8:09 PM
This code (as provided by the website) echo -e "\e[38;5;82mHello \e[38;5;198mWorld" is not working...

that works on my linux machine

try \[\e[0;31m\]sup

@undergroundmonorail we all know linux is king, no need to rub it in

8:11 PM
@ΚριτικσιΛίθος just give up now

@flawr what the hell
Jesus Christ
@phase The only browser on which my company's intranet is officially supported is Internet Explorer. I chance some brokenness and use Chrome anyway. :P

@AlexA. you rebel

What can I say? There are plenty of bananas in my ocean.

@JesusChrist

So... I think it's a problem with the code... not sure why, though.

8:16 PM
@PootieTang

changed it to "http://www.example.com"
and then actually hosted it: socnet-phinotpi.rhcloud.com/gettest.html

Not enough jQuery

@phase You Jrebel.

@VoteToClose I give you permission to hang yourself.

Well, that escalated quickly.

Perhaps you are Jesus' sock!

I don't post things that so obviously don't work!

But your sock?

8:24 PM
Well, the sock certainly can, that way Alex maintains good reputation.

@AlexA. That's what you want us to think.

All the comments are gone. ಠ_ಠ
O.O Not the same person.

@VoteToClose Yeah, I nuked the non-constructive comments.

;D Okie then.

@VoteToClose DO IT

I can't until it's edited. XD
And that's not what I was down voting. xD

What do you know, it's been edited. ;)
Works now though

Hey, look, another up vote.

Lol, @AlexA. wrote the entire answer?

8:33 PM
@VoteToClose No, I reversed my downvote because it works now.

Oh!
XD

@feersum I knew that before=)

@feersum The old version didn't work in the recent version of Julia so I provided code that does.
You guys are such turds. :P

How nice of you!

My suggestion is being pushed away. :c

8:34 PM
Hm?

See: six stars.

@VoteToClose Why don't you post it on Meta?

Hmm. Good idea.

I don't think it's a good idea.

@VoteToClose 'Course it's a good idea!

8:36 PM
Not every code golf competition has exactly the same scoring. For example, some have bonuses, some don't. Some users might not even want a leaderboard.
It should be left up to the challenge author.
If they want a leaderboard they can adapt Martin's template.

It should at least be easier to access.

Go to meta, search is:question leaderboard, first result, copy, paste, done.

How about introducing ?

You mean on main or on meta?

No in main, so the bot knows where to insert his code?

8:39 PM
@PeterTaylor that would be the issue

@flawr I love the idea

{how does one link tags?}

Q: Code Golf Scoreboards

VoteToCloseThroughout all of PPCG, we can find questions relating to the tag code-golf. Unfortunately, finding the lowest byte answer for questions can be difficult if not frustrating without an automatic system for scoring. Good thing we have a scoreboard! Shame it's sometimes hard to find, and new users...

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Tags are intended to categorize questions and should provide some kind of meaningful context to a challenge. A leaderboard tag makes no sense in terms of what tags are meant for.

8:44 PM
Hello

How do you do a meta code tag?

Don't immediately this.

@AlexA. And StackExchange was meant for Q/A questions.

Literally none.
Plus, we're constantly
See: starboard.

@TanMath We just chill and talk about programming. We do it so much that I've been to my doctor's ten times this week about my obsession with codegolf.

@TimmyD wow, this chat community has changed from when I was here a few months ago...Before, everybody had lives.. not anymore i guess!

@phase really?

Q: Across the alphabet

VɪʜᴀɴAcross the alphabet In this challenge, you have trouble remembering the letters of the alphabet. To circumvent this, you go up and down the alphabet, till you get to the letter. Because you want your code to be portable, you'll be writing it with letter blocks. You have a limited amount of let...

Ugh. I hope this feature request gets declined into oblivion.

@TanMath ofc

8:54 PM
@AlexA. You mean Conor's one?

BTW, just to say, I dont know who any of you are.. I only know feersum, Martin, trichoplax, Geobits, Doorknob, and Dennis.

@SuperJedi224 VTC's.

I actually have a code golf question idea!

@AlexA. Oh, okay.

@TanMath Are you familiar with the sandbox?

8:56 PM
And make sure it's not a duplicate*

Here it goes - Given any phrase, the program is supposed to convert it to chemical elements with the symbols representing thr phrase..

If it is, Peter will find it within minutes. :P

@TanMath That's gotta be a duplicate.

@AlexA. yes...but I just want to assess what you guys think about it, then i will post it in the sandbox

8:57 PM
@SuperJedi224 what is the point of that..

Sorry, I posted the wrong link
That's the right one

As an example, let's say the phrase is "OK", the program should print "oxygen potassium" as the chemical symbols for rhat is "O" and "K"..

@TanMath This is not a duplicate.

So, basically, "yes."

@VoteToClose really? is it a good challenge? I will post it in the sandbox soon...

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ +1
@TanMath What about things that can't be translated and the two char solutions?

Q: Find the Chemistry of a name

WizardOfMenloWe all have knowledge of the periodic table, since our days in school. Something most of us have often tried to do is to spell out your name using elements of the table. Your challenge is to do exactly this. You will be given a string to STDIN or equivalent, and you will need to output the form...

@VoteToClose Thanks ;)
I wish people would effing comment though if they don't like it.

9:01 PM
@feersum Which in turn is (mistakenly, in my opinion) marked as a duplicate of the complementary challenge.

@feersum oh ok.. I guess it is a duplicate...fine...

> This is not a duplicate.
2

@VoteToClose How do you meta tag?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Seems interesting, but what if someone wants a header with Leaderboard? Such as if they have a weird challenge based on code speed or something and they have a leaderboard detailing who is winning.

[meta-tag:]

9:02 PM
@phase ... i.e., the scoreboard?
so cool

So is it a duplicate only?

Yeah, it looks like it would be.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ A scoreboard that wasn't based on byte count, which is what the bot would search for.

Sounds to me like it would search for whatever score was given in the answer header.

9:03 PM
@SuperJedi224 ok..

So split.

Thanks all!

The question itself is 6+/5-
@TanMath No problem. :D If you come up with a non-dupe, make sure you make a ridiculous reason for the challenge.

9:10 PM
@AlexA. there are logical reasons to downvote. not merely cuz i dont agree w. you but cuz its a stupid argument

Rude
What's stupid about it?

statement 1: If a challenge author wants one, they can use Martin's template. i was aware of leaderboards, but not aware of his (whoever he is) template.
i like @Cᴏɴᴏʀ's suggestion cuz its easier on new users

so to say that new users would be no more aware of the leaderboard than the template is CRAP.
i am a new user, i know about leaderboards, but not the template.

9:13 PM
@SuperJedi224 (it was an argument. i am now enlightened.)

I didn't say they wouldn't know about leaderboards. I said they wouldn't know about a tag that will auto-insert a leaderboard.
Also there's no need for hostility here.

There's got to be some happy medium. I can see arguments that tags or a simple keyword will be problematic, but at the same time, there is a huge learning curve to effectively using the site.

^ which is why I suggest an uncommon keyword.

9:15 PM
I do like this idea.

^^^

@AlexA. so how does it work? you wake up an act as @ಠ_ಠ then from breakfast onwards, you are AlexA. again?

@AlexA. I am glad that you only agree 2%.
Yes. 2,000% agreed. Though I kind of said the same thing already in my post. — Alex A. ♦ 12 mins ago

@flawr feersum is American. He knows what I mean. :P

We should use underscores or spaces as thousand seperators.
That would serve the purpose just as well without confusing people.

It the use of smallcaps in usernames is spreading...

Or just use 1'000
Then it will not be confused with a , or .

But what about the first derivative of 1?

You know that ? is the antifactorial

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Which, of course, is equal to 0.
@flawr Wait, what?

3! = 6
6? = 3

9:23 PM
@flawr No it's not. It's Gamma^-1 +1

6 != 3

Inverse gamma?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Is that not what ? is? :P

@flawr I've never seen that function given a suffix symbol before though.

Well Gamma^{-1}(n) +1 == n?

9:24 PM
@AlexA. Indeed!
I've seen n? refer to n + (n-1) + ... + 1

that is n!

@flawr No it isn't.

"!" denotes factorial and "?" denotes the antifactorial

9:25 PM
Let me write a wikipedia article in order to prove it!
2

> Minkowski's question mark function
I read that as Mike Wizowski's. O.O

Hi @El'endiaStarman

@flawr It's on the internet so it must be true!

^
Also: we three should make a "tips for golfing" for our languages.

9:28 PM
@VoteToClose Go ahead w/ yours. Simplex isn't ready for that yet ;-;

I was just going to start a thread "Tips for golfing in HQ9+"

@Seadrus if you're aware of the leaderboard, you might as well copy it from one of the challenges that has it. (in fact, I've never copied it from my own meta post myself)

@MartinBüttner right. let me just highlight it and select it.

@MartinBüttner The point is that new users might not be aware, and therefore don't have this functionality.
@AlexA. Suggested making it a "Featured" meta post. <--- I agree with this.

9:31 PM
@VoteToClose If the challenge would benefit from a leaderboard, some experience user is likely to point it out and give them a hand integrating it.

^

neg ^

Also, anyone who posts a Stack Snippet in their question should be responsible for maintaining it.
If you paste some code and it doesn't work, it shouldn't be someone else's problem.

"I left my mouth at home." #CodeDay

Your face must be so empty looking!

9:34 PM
Its like a doorknob without a keyhole

@VoteToClose Done

@MartinBüttner But overcoming this need before it appears would be best, no? If it is added to both the featured pane and the introduction page or a bot is introduced, it would be helpful for newer and common users (i.e. me) to find (as it is a bit of a niggle to find).

So how would a bot introduce it to new users' posts if it doesn't add it to all posts? And I know I definitely don't want the leaderboard on all of my posts.

Having every new user dropping in stack snippets to every question is decidedly not desirable.

The ideal solution would be dedicated dev effort to customise the answer format for PPCG, to have explicit language and score fields (and a separate answer body)... then a proper leaderboard could be implemented that wouldn't have to rely on scraping the SE API and the answers' markdown bodies, but I don't think this community will get the necessary dev hours from SO any time soon.

9:39 PM
Probably ever. But that would be legit as fuck, bro.

They should decouple PPCG from other SE sites, so we could the development ourselves.
