1:00 AM
@QPaysTaxes Umm... Coding the whole thing and letting people use it for free is definitely better
@QPaysTaxes Why?

@QPaysTaxes On android? No. As I recall there was a less than $30 setup fee
Ah, yes then

@HelkaHomba 25

$25 one time Android - $99/year Apple

setup fee? seriously? wow, they must really not care about people writing apps for their ecosystem...

1:02 AM
@Doorknob ok wait what is this?? my tree is hiding all the interesting things D:

@QPaysTaxes if he uses phone gap he won't need xcode

@jrich It keeps people from making totally worthless/spam apps

write in js, it'll put ur app in a web view and make it an app
for android & apple & windows, etc

@HelkaHomba if i recall correctly apple makes you pass a review to make sure your app is legit...

@QPaysTaxes js is plenty past enough for audio processing IMO
especially with html5 apis
why would that be computationally expensive?

1:05 AM
@QPaysTaxes that's genius!

^

you could even mix it up a little with some "i don't know"s, etc etc... sure some poor telemarketers are gonna love that XD

Does anyone know what @Doorknob is talking about?

@HelkaHomba xkcd

@QPaysTaxes it was D:
actually, I might as well just link the whole thing

@QPaysTaxes he should make the app work through the actual calling functionality of the cell phone

I just see lamps in the gardens...

@QPaysTaxes I was suggesting js for ios
@QPaysTaxes and tensorflow is available for android
xcode
you were complaining about the cost so I mentioned phonegap
phonegap is free

@QPaysTaxes Tried Chrome and FF, still nothing :/

yeah but you won't have to pay for xcode
or does that come with the dev license?
but anyways for android at least, you have tts and tensorflow
that's why ads are a better scheme

1:15 AM

@QPaysTaxes Last I checked, the apple dev license was $100/year, plus 30% of income.

@QPaysTaxes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
screw apple
just like put it online as a website for ios peoples

@QPaysTaxes Oh, got some terrain

how do I Jelly string

"Jelly"

1:18 AM
That's how you string Jelly, not the other way around :P

Well, I guess you could put some string in along with the gelatin powder. Probably wouldn't be very tasty though.

@El'endiaStarman Add enough sugar and it'd be okay.

@El'endiaStarman “Jelly”, you mean

@Sp3000 Oh right. Was lazy.

1:19 AM
@QPaysTaxes idk, I didn't seen any plants, but I don't care that much

Jerry beans on my mind

(I'd dictionary that if I wasn't lazy myself :P)

The tree keeps re-covering things, even after repeatedly pruning leaves >:U

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

1:24 AM
Drumsticks vs pork chops?

pork chops

pork chops

pork chops

Unless it's these drumsticks, always pork chops.

1:25 AM
^

@AlexA. I tried one of those once. Not tasty.

Even the Zildjian ones? I thought those were crunchier.

Q: Tips for golfing in Racket / Scheme

catWhat general tips do you have for golfing in Racket / Scheme? I'm looking for ideas that can be applied to code golf problems in general that are at least somewhat specific to Racket / Scheme (e.g. "remove comments" is not an answer). I'm aware Scheme and Racket (formerly PLT Scheme) are techn...

@Doorknob Maybe direct the light away from that area?
I have a control garden sitting with no lamps to see what happens
Nothing so far...

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Perl since it was my first language
But I like Java/Groovy too.

1:30 AM
Cool!

Not to sound corny but I also really like Pytek even though it's not done

I wonder how many people keep their first language as their favourite.

Java was my first language; now I never use it

BASIC was my first, and I definitely don't use it now.

My first was BASIC, with line numbers. Not my favourite

1:31 AM
@QPaysTaxes I used to be a huge Java fan, now I'm a Java air conditioner.

Does ActionScript count as a language? Because if so there's no way that'd be my favourite :P

One of the reasons I still use Java is because I have a particularly large project (that I've mentioned before) written in it

Depending on what you mean by "first language", that'd be one of Java, C++, TI-BASIC, and Blitz Basic.

I think I'll probably find myself drifting away from it once that is complete.
@El'endiaStarman First you ever learned.

I still use Java a lot because I like Android, so it's useful to keep it fresh.

1:32 AM
English

@quartata C++, then. But I barely did anything with it.

The first I used (but I had no idea what I was doing) was VBA. I hate it.

Everyone hates VBA especially VBA developers

First language? English/CASIO-BASIC

VBA as a first? You poor man.

1:33 AM
Second is C#, then JS (node) then python, then random esolangs

@Geobits Hah. Matlab second. Still didn't know what I was doing.
But at least Matlab is a usable language

Java was first if you mean first language that I really did much of anything with. TI-BASIC was the first language that I wrote multiple programs in. Blitz Basic was the first computer (in the sense of laptop/desktop) language that I wrote many programs in.

The first language that I really picked up was Python
My first languages were technically a little HTML, some Scratch and some TurtleArt. I was quite proud of getting the turtle to print collatz(n) one number at a time

I think we need to find a language that everyone here can bash

BASIC first, then QBasic, then VB6. After that I switched over to C, then C++. Then Java. (as "main" languages)

1:35 AM
Looks like VBA is gonna be it

We can all bash JavaScript

Don't we still have JS for that? :P

Ninja'd

Damn

But I've never used VBA so I can't bash it...

1:35 AM
Sure you can

It's really easy.

You just have to believe

VBA is like Basic but they added .NET to it

I've used Bash but I can't VBA it

all you need to know

1:36 AM
Use the magic you know, Captain. Believe.

@quartata I actually liked VB6. I switched to C when they went all .NET

poke

poke

poke

>_>

1:37 AM
late poke

As requested: pokeGeobits 18 secs ago

expect it when you least expect it

ooooh yay I got to handle a meta flag
that never happens

Also the correct flag reason is too chatty
@Doorknob Really? I flag things on Meta every once and a while

What are you flagging?

1:38 AM
@Doorknob Not if I beat you to it >:D
@Geobits Your comment

@AlexA. when I posted that message, I had already handled it

What comment?

haha

@Doorknob Oh. :(

I ' m not sure if I ' m not sure what you mean .

1:39 AM
s/ifi//

I like deletified.

@Geobits I ' m not sure if you ' re going to be a good fucking fucking fucking fucking _UNK

Marky Markov talks like that

You haven't met Marky, have you?

1:41 AM
His brain is based on movie quotes right now so he's a little salty

Nope, mostly older movies from what I can tell. I didn't go through the whole thing, though.

@AlexA. drumsticks it is

We should all use TI-BASIC for all of our coding purposes.

No thanks

We should all use Snowman for all of our coding purposes.

1:44 AM
Yes pls

@QPaysTaxes We should move the internet into a TI-BASIC

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

QPaysTaxesInspired by this, but also different. I need help phrasing things, putting them together coherently, etc. Also, I can't decide on what the magic numbers (size, toggles per turn, etc.) should be. Also, is this even winnable? Competitive Life king-of-the-hill Let's pit two AIs against each o...

@Doorknob But first we most be able to emulate a TI-84 on it.

@QPaysTaxes Having to clear the entire 50 by 100 area to win seems likely to create lots of failed games. Even if someone manages to find a way of winning, everyone else will just have all tied games.
I can't think of a better way to win though

Most possession percentage over 10000 turns?

1:47 AM
Unless you make it asymmetric - one side trying to maximise the live cells and the other trying to minimise them

Lovely. I just downloaded the latest version of Sencha Touch and it's a tar bomb
2
now I get to clean up my home directory

Like who has the most pieces still on the board at each turn over 10000, then average it

@quartata You should totally drop that and try literally anything else :/

@Geobits I already have 500+ lines of code in it; I might as well finish it
Although... this tar bomb has definitely not improved my morale

You're a braver man than I.

1:49 AM
More like 2014 me was a braver man. I'm just finishing the job

@QPaysTaxes I was thinking of scoring on the neutral zone, and still having the placements in the side zones, but either could work

Oh, yea... 2014 me thought Phonegap was a good idea. I'm glad I don't have anything lingering from that.

@quartata phone gap

Actually looking at some of the dates on these files this might have been the work of 2013 me
What a bastard
I think 2013 and 2014 me worked together to give 2016 me a bad time
At least they left comments in the code

That was nice of them.

1:51 AM
Comments to help you or comments to taunt you?

// dunno why this works, but it does

# hahaha this code will fail next year good luck

// fragile: do not touch

// TODO: Add comments

// here be dragons

1:53 AM
//This will expand and contract (hide and show the body) of an article
Eh, helpful-ish

//TODO: Waste time in 19th byte

Time in TNB is never wasted

// TODO: This should work in the next Sencha update

//TODO: literally every single thing

@Geobits Oh, I have a lot of those

1:55 AM
@quartata wat is tar bam

Although 2014 me was also considerate enough to leave temporary work arounds it looks like

The gist of my comments:

@AlexA. bam

//TODO: do this

What are two fun, neighboring ASCII characters?

1:56 AM
@AlexA. a really shitty tarball that doesn't extract into its own folder

@Doorknob o this is explan thnak
@quartata Those exist? :(

@AlexA. welkm

@AlexA. yes because they were made by dumb people who don't know how to use tar
In other words JS programmers

@HelkaHomba 0x09, 0x0A

Isn't that what killed the dinosauce?

1:56 AM
@AlexA. yes
tragic tale

haha that typo was unintentional but I like it so I'll keep it

js programmers killed the dinosaurs?
2

that's a weird place for a cactus to grow

Not at all, it's in red light.

haha

1:58 AM
Oops, I keep forgetting that Conor is here. I should probably dial back my JS trash talk
@Doorknob it's watching you

I killed the tree and octopus that was in my garden and now nothing's growing :(

I've never seen a cactus looking so sneaky before

@quartata Or ramp it up >_>

Also it looks like I knew nothing about JavaScript so I didn't use any IIFEs

@trichoplax I have:

1:59 AM
whose idea was it to put a platform here??

@Geobits My goodness there's an internet for everything
