@AlexA. well, some examples: I think there's way too much stigma against popularity contests (they all get flagged as opinion-based), people are too quick to flag duplicates when they're not really duplicate, and I got some flak for adding some restrictions to my challenges (such as requiring that I should be able to test the answers, or restricting the character set to ASCII or even just using UTF-8 byte counts)

@aditsu Requiring that you should be able to test answers seems perfectly reasonable to me. I don't know why that would have been poorly received. :/ Restricting the source code to ASCII is a little different, because people don't like it when their language can't participate, unless it makes sense in the context of the challenge. Re UTF-8 byte counts, the problem I see with that is that not all languages support UTF-8 input, so scoring in UTF-8 would be kind of weird for those.
