@Seth did you just change your avatar in the last week or so are are there 2 of you?
there was a user doing word for word copy and pastes of other websites, "how-to geek" for one, it even prompted a meta question. Wonder if it finally caught up to them and they got deleted....not sure how much they voted tho....
@Seth okay, it was just a possible explanation, was not going to mention any names so I was kind of vague about it......
and BTW now that I know that you are you (so to speak) you were the other user that I was referring to in my question on Meta....sooooo.....you going to run for MOD??
not an important question, but I was wondering do they have a set number of mods that they elect every year(I see 2 are needed this year) or do the current mod decide as a group how much more help they need?
or is it relative to the amount of growth the site has seen in the last year?
@searchfgold6789, i have to say owing a cat shows a definite lack of good judgement....dogs are much better..........how can you be a mod if you can't even get that simple decision right??? :P
(as I hit enter my cat jumps up on my lap....could take away the strength of my comment, but I stand by it, dogs are better.......(in my defence, I only own this cat b/c I couldn't watch her freeze to death a few weeks ago when it got extremely cold a few weeks ago))
:D
{uh oh, he's not talking....me thinks that if he gets elected, I can think of one user that will be banned in record time...}
Reproduce compiz settings not taking effect? Actually, I wrote this over a year ago. I have changed my Ubuntu version in the meanwhile and now everything is working fine. Although I would still like to know how to load the settings through the terminal. — pedrovgp13 hours ago
@Braiam umm, I saw that but does that change the question of how to load the profile, or is it just extraneous info that does not affect the validity of the question?
@Lucio one coud be on topic? google gives this "As I can install Penguin Beta 9 on my laptop I have installed ubuntu 13.04 I tried to install it from synaptic but not in the repositories " but I'm not sure that "Penguin Beta 9" is....
@TrailRider is not... actually the "how to solve unmet dependencies?" Q is crap, every answer to dependency problem needs to be suittailored and the solution greatly depends the preface of the problem
Why would this be off topic....answer is accepted and was answered by a mod no less. It is asking about Ubuntu vs Mint...is this not on topic as it is not asking help for Mint, just how Ubuntu is different? askubuntu.com/questions/46833/…
@Braiam close vote needed, op posted this same question a few days earlier....dup is his question....askubuntu.com/questions/412909/…
@TrailRider Cats just know (also notice I used the word "have" a cat... not "own" one... I "have" a cat in the sense that the cat lives with me and thinks it is my owner and I paid for it so it could provide advice on what to do with errant AU chatters.)
@searchfgold6789 lol well then I stand corrected....the one I have living with me doesn't care how I refer to the fact...she is just glad to not be freezing her tail off after the neighbors left her when they moved.....
There's this question, please read the comment. When you're done, kindly click here, many questions like this will popup, asked today, voted up today and answered today. I even see questions on 11.x voted up and answered.
I need someone to clarify the rules on old releases please.
@Lucio So they are part of the process the whole way (you still guide with tips to make sure everything is not all centered font, or terrible contrast, ect.)
I noticed this in my "activity drop down:"
I don't particular care about losing 10 points, but it piqued my interest. What does this mean? If someone's account is deleted for some reason, their up votes are taken away?
@Lucio then start from scratch - trying everything they said they wanted, make sure that they know that some steps involving their choice you can't go back to
@Mateo - did Planella ever ping you back on that gist? I have something almost working that's way more elegant than that way... I'll drop it over there when it works if it's still a thing.
heh, i got a user removed warning the other day. some "you're just being rude telling me not to try and get run as admin apps running in wine. i wanted you to tell me run on linux is sudo even though it would break my wine prefix" type of thing.
@Takkat with you on that one. i'm handing a little slack back to the job today though. game gets called here on account of 2 inches of snow and they haven't run my freight right for months. i called them on it yesterday and it turned in to "we have to do what we have to do", so my call out today is based on account of weather with the verbage "we have to do what we have to do" to the salaried that keeps screwing me over.
@AvinashRaj minor edits are fine as long as they're useful. that's a spectrum thing though. i'ld rather not do tag purging... would you? i'm glad someone who isn't me is doing it
I read about Altruist Badge. But I can't see how could it be applied.
What are the requirements for this badge to happen?
Do I have access on another person's question?
@AvinashRaj I'm a perfectionist, if there's nothing else (or a tiny thing) to fix in the post, approve. If it leaves out glaring issues (code formatting), reject - too minor. If it leaves out some caps or grammar, approve (these are tedious to correct). The hard part is sticking to a policy (I feel I'm inconsistent)
for ques about os installation system-installation tag is necessary, for ques about software installation software-installation tag is necessary.Am i correct?
Too minor is just a card to play for zero rep users that have never answered or asked anything evar... like a bot-killer card to reject edits. It's more relevant on some other sites, but on AU it doesn't have as much purpose as it could on say... SO. e.g. a code edit to break out pointer casting to a macro in a snippet or something
I'm wondering about voting system.
Anybody can vote for a candidate in elections?
Are there some privileges or needs for so?
If no, How can you protect the election from fake accounts?!
