:)

@Fiksdal If you click the arrows in the bottom part of the window to expand the operations, yes.
It does show you how far it is along.

@NathanOsman Really? I did click those arrows actually.
I mean, there was this one shrinking operation.. All the arrows did was tell me that that was the current operation. But it didn't tell me how far we were through said operation.

I wish I had a screenshot...

haha!
@NathanOsman Something like this maybe gparted.org/screens/gparted_2_big.png

Yeah, if you expand "details" it opens a list of operations.

3:08 PM
Right

Then if you expand those it shows progress of the current operation.

yeah, well I clicked all the arrows
including the subarrows

^--- like in that one
Oh?
Weird, it worked for me.
Maybe it can't show progress for shrinking.

Right, that's what it looked like for me too

16.04 runs really hot.

3:11 PM
I mean, I could see which operation it was currently on

I'm running it on a laptop right now.
I haven't noticed anything.

But where can I see how far that current operation has gotten?

Though this machine has Intel graphics.
@Fiksdal You might need to open a new question for that.
I'm not sure anyone here knows.

@NathanOsman Alright, cool

Yahoo is displaying ads on their login pages now. This is getting ridiculous.

3:12 PM
@Seth What does it mean to run hot?
@NathanOsman Don't you use adblock?

@Fiksdal it heats up the machine

oh
how much more than 14.04?

Na, I can't be bothered to use AdBlock. I mean it would solve the problem most of the time, but I'm worried it would just create new ones.

@NathanOsman Like what problems? I've been using it for six years and it hasn't caused me any trouble at all.. A few websites have started demanding that users switch it off lately, but it's as easy as disabling adblock on that domain

Oh? Well, maybe it would be a good idea then.
I have some pictures from my travels yesterday...

3:21 PM
very nice! Cascades?

heya everybody, just joined
nice to see you all

hi!

@FergusIncoronato Hi Fergus

Man, stabilizing in YouTube sure takes a while...

user139252
Where are you from, @JourneymanGeek?

I certainly do not sound local.

@oli thanks for fixing that question
now i can remove my comment

Anyway, breakfast. Gotta run.

I'm greatly enjoying 14.04 again. A shame it took me forever to give up on 16.04. :(

And another 16.04 installation bites the dust! \o/

I had high hopes for 16.04.
I really did. :(

3:50 PM
(I have a twisted sense of humor.)

@NathanOsman Well this is a known fact.

I thought you were grabbing breakfast, not heckling James. :-)

Did you see my video of the bear?
No, I didn't get out of the car.

it looks adorable

3:51 PM
It's a Grizzly. They can grow to 15 feet and maul multiple humans.

as in killer bear adorable.

So no, it's not adorable :D
Ah, ok.

like that level of adorable killer.

Breakfast for real this time :)

Q: How to fix the autofs procedure used for preserving the USB mount point in between reboots and USB reconnects?

FrankI read the answers in this excellent Unix Stack Exchange article; Automounting USB sticks on Debian and tested it earlier yesterday on an Ubuntu Linux 16.04 instance , Lenovo Thinkstation quad core desktop , and saw that the udev rule creates a symbolic link , /dev/sdihd1 correctly. However, ...

Does anyone know if there is a command I can type in the terminal to take a photo with the webcam in Ubuntu Linux?

4:21 PM
@Mateo Awesome job with the app!

@NathanOsman You sir have a lot of nature where you live. :)

:O
it's Darth Vader!
You've found the rebel base, but you can never make us switch to Windows!
:P

@Seth lol

@Seth whoa, that is awesome

@onebree Did you find an answer? I don't see how it's possible to scroll a window that provides content without giving it focus. (Do you have focus follows mouse and auto-raise set? That will at least bring you back to terminal without a click once you mouse back)
@Seth 8 inch floppies still running nuke related progs at pentagon: foxnews.com/politics/2016/05/26/…

4:39 PM
@chaskes good grief.
@chaskes it works in unity the way she described.

@Seth Ok. Stand corrected. (I think I don't understand what the issue is, but no big)

@HenryWHHack That's not where I live.

@NathanOsman Well your close to nature. Btw Why don't you have sound in your videos?

I had sound in that one but it was me talking :P
(And another family member.)
The bear is too far away for you to hear any sounds from it.
I'll probably just add some background music when I get a chance.

dir works in Ubuntu 16.04 it's a sign Microsoft is taking over ubuntu.

4:55 PM
@chaskes Not yet -- I just finished my lunch hour, and will be going back to work. I think in Windows my desired behavior happens.... But that's windwos

@HenryWHHack hm, I think there was

@HenryWHHack dir has been around a long time and is meant as a convenience to people switch from ms win. As for taking over, it's actually the other way around. Win has been importing linux features and commands heavily for years
@onebree Please let me know what you find.

@HenryWHHack try this:
v4l2src num-buffers=1 ! ffmpegcolorspace ! video/x-raw-
yuv,width=640,height=480,framerate=8/1 ! jpegenc ! filesink
location=test.jpg
All one command
Might need to install v4l or something first dont remember if it was a default app

5:14 PM
@HenryWHHack nope it isnt :p simply type dir --help and you will see the following:
GNU coreutils online help: <http://www.gnu.org/software/coreutils/>
Full documentation at: <http://www.gnu.org/software/coreutils/dir>
or available locally via: info '(coreutils) dir invocation'
nothing microsoftastic on that command

Paul BIt can be done with NFS. This is useful to read about: How do I mount directories from other Linux/Unix/BSD servers? How do I mount an NFS share? 5:36 PM
This is weird. I've got a directory with world read and execute permissions:
nathan@nathan-laptop:~$ stat www
  File: 'www'
  Size: 4096 Blocks: 8 IO Block: 4096 directory
Device: 2eh/46d	Inode: 4751457     Links: 3
Access: (0775/drwxrwxr-x)  Uid: ( 1000/  nathan)   Gid: ( 1000/  nathan)
But www-data can't read from it for some reason:
www-data@nathan-laptop:~$ stat /home/nathan/www
stat: cannot stat '/home/nathan/www': Permission denied
Anyone know what's going on here?
Other local users can't get at it either...
Oh hang on...
I don't want others being able to write to it.
But they should be able to read from it.
But I think I found the problem.
/home/nathan is set to 0700.
So I guess I need to move this.
There's no way I'm granting world read to my home directory.

@NathanOsman there go my plans then
Can't you just add www-data to the group though?

@NathanOsman you need to make the group being www-data and make the entry diretory www 777 then it should work
no need to change permissions on your home directory itself
and make sure youre in the www-data group

Q: Installing F23 with custom partitioning (after hapilly dual booting U16.04 and W10). Can no longer boot into the W10 partition

user189035Ok, so I know it is a classic, but none of the solutions I found could do the trick;( I already had an Ubuntu 16.04 and a Windows 10 on said disk (and could use the grub to boot on either at ease). Then a friend advised me to give Fedora 23 a try. Since I installed F23, using the custom partitio...

not reopening. Just logging my visit on that question

6:26 PM
ah, well the op didn't change it till now but Oli made it a complete Q&A
so no more need for me to monitor it further

thank you

I had as well considered doing exactly that, making it complete but it is better a mod does it

must've been deleted already

@chaskes yep i guess someone pulled the @jokerdino ;)

Here's the Glacier:

@NathanOsman i really envy you for living in such a nice surrounding :)

He forgot the instagram filters.

@Videonauth I don't live there.
That was a scenic daytrip :)

ah :)

@NathanOsman Well, few of us can daytrip to that.

6:46 PM
indeed :)

I'm sure you have some scenic areas where you live.

yeah full of ghost coal mines and such stuff ;)

You haven't been in my area. A few low hills and some trees pass for scenic.

I'm actually rewriting an answer i posted here on AU for my blog, 1227 word count so far and im only 1/3 through

@NathanOsman This is as good as it gets here:

@jokerdino you mean link it in my answer here ?

drop it in chat

will do

@chaskes That's pretty.

6:55 PM
still a lot to write and research for it

@NathanOsman But it's not a glacier and it's the literally the only landmark within locality

askubuntu.com/questions/768970/… this is the answer here i try to rewirte fully fr my blog including even methods to install each ubuntu flavor and other debian distros you want

[ SmokeDetector ] Offensive body detected: How the hell do I install this thing? by ENCRYPTED on askubuntu.com …

@NathanOsman There is that. I was already thinking that if something happened during a hike the difference between MRIs per pop in US vs Can might matter: statista.com/statistics/282401/…
;)

I'm not quite sure I follow what you're saying.

@SmokeDetector calm down.

Well, it may not have been a great joke but I was trying to feel better about the local low hills vs the awesome glaciers by saying at least we have readily available mri's everywhere (if one fell off during a hike)

Ouch.

7:10 PM
at least for now. give us time and we'll have as few as Can.

@jokerdino unusual request, but could you have an edit on that comment askubuntu.com/questions/777852/… it is a pain to read that.

@Videonauth there

user136984
@Zacharee1: You weren't a Tox contact of mine were you?

user136984
It's just you look familiar but I am probably wrong.

Does tox have a xenial package yet?

@ParanoidPanda Thanks, copied it.

user136984
8:11 PM
@chaskes: No, and it never will... Zetok had an argument with the old manager of the tox build services and the qTox developers have sort of gone rogue... They are refusing to provide any more support through the repos for Linux.

Huh? Why that?

What else does it work on? Debian, Fedora, OpenSuse? (I don't have a 14.04 handy)

user136984
@chaskes: Whatever they provide as community builds, so don't know.

user136984
If you want to get it and to upgrade you have to manually get community builds.

ok, thx

@ParanoidPanda idk

user136984
@chaskes: Here. I was going to write a long and angry reply, but I just never got round to it and have decided to try to switch to another Tox client because I don't feel they have the right to think that they can treat one of their users like this, and developers shouldn't really be allowed to war with each other and make their users suffer for it so I don't want these kind of developers.

wow, there is totally someone hacking away at this: lists.launchpad.net/ubuntu-phone/msg13705.html

@HenryWHHack the problem with a good raspberry pi is that they are like pringles...once you get your hands on one, you won't be able to stop...

@TheXed Do you have one?

8:30 PM
Why is dkms not installed by default by the way?

@HenryWHHack I have 2

I have 0. :(

I bought one myself, then I got one for Christmas from my wife...
actually it was from my in-laws via my wife...

@TheXed Flash, yes. Maybe not Java so much.
Chrome is phasing out Flash support.

that stuff has more security holes as a swiss cheese

I get tired all the freaking updates...
@NathanOsman Chrome has already phased out Java support...
