Here, here

I'm still trying to figure out why i got a down-vote on that askubuntu.com/a/777459/522934? its not an garbage answer or anything, it just didn't work out as I expected.

@onebree PLEASE
And Meta

@onebree I had a terrorising incident involving clowns when I was a toddler, so I am still nervous around them to this day.

@NathanOsman traumatising is the word you want, I think
or terrifying
not terrorising o_O

12:08 AM
I was terrorized.
(I think the en_CA dictionary corrected the spelling to "s" not "z"...)
(Silly British spelling :D)

Oh I thought you just spelled it like that :p
Hence my use of "s" instead of "z"

@HenryWHHack congratulations

Yeah, I live in Canada but I speak American.

@NathanOsman lol

@Videonauth Thank You! :)

12:14 AM
But I answered anyway (shhhh)

Anonymous
IDK why I hate clowns... Probably something as a young child.

Anonymous
But I do enjoy going to this one haunted maze during Halloween. Clowns will chase you with chain saws

Or the concept is just really weird and it's actually a justified feeling :p
@onebree Hmm. Couldn't be that then..........

Anonymous
And if you take the haunted hay ride (not nearly as scary), there is a clown section where they jump onto the whatever it's called (back of a pickup? IDK)

truckbed

Anonymous
12:17 AM
@Zacharee1 I've only been there twice, and I was 18+ by the first time

or is it a separate trailer?

Anonymous
yes separate trailor haitch

Your brain isn't done developing until ~25 :p
So 18 isn't too late

Anonymous
But the fear started as a young child probs

how?

Anonymous
12:18 AM
IDK some kid's birthday party at school or their house, and tehre was a clown

heh

Anonymous
meh, now I feel like watching TV...

Anonymous
bye all

12:48 AM
@ankit7540 Please if you edit longer lists of code don't use backticks, indent them instead by 4 spaces. Thank you.

@Videonauth I don't believe you can ping users from chat unless you're a mod

we will see i see your chat pings as well in my notification

@Videonauth yeah, but that's because you've joined the chat room
@JourneymanGeek ^

well i dont know how to tell him other way than that, commenting on posts he edited wont cut it

@Videonauth prolly should use a comment there
@Zacharee1 better a 'local' mod does that?

12:54 AM
I think they see those, but I'm actually not sure @Videonauth
@JourneymanGeek pinging you for confirmation

ahh yes
Mods can superping

ah ok

well next one i see from him i'll reject i hope theres an option to note why i rejected that edit

@JourneymanGeek if someone's edited a post and you ping them in a comment on that post, does it ping the editor?

12:56 AM
nope
Not As Far As I Know.

hmm

approve

Something tells me that's just bad English

what's bad eng?

12:59 AM
The name is offensive?

sorry I must've missed something. what name, where?

The edit reason

yes, bad eng. He means: I (correctly) don't like seeing names, sincerely, etc in Q or A. Not that he doesn't like the OP's name.

I figured :p

1:13 AM
I'm exhausted.
I just ran two miles and discovered I'm out of shape.

o_O

I'm at least 3 more hours tired though.

lol

@NathanOsman you have a drone?

Sure do.
Quadcopter, UAV, call it whatever you will.
Looks like this:

1:14 AM
fun

...when I can actually fly it.

wat

Well, there are places you can't legally fly it.

oh

Unfortunately, some of those happen to be the most beautiful places.

1:16 AM
heh

At least we don't need a license up here like you guys down south.

we do?

Yup.

huh

You can't fly a drone without a license down there.
Sorry, not license... registration.
You are required to register it.

1:18 AM
oh
that's a little different

Yeah, but it's $5 :D

oh no!

(Though anyone who can afford one can probably afford that.)

I've just bought this $400++ device and I have to pay FIVE WHOLE DOLLARS to use it?!?!
This is an outrage!

Lol.
All of that being said, I do get some awesome footage in places where I can fly it:

1:19 AM
@NathanOsman have you seen the Axon 7?

Nope.

Still way more scenic than here

@NathanOsman It's got better specs than my Note 4, it's 2 years newer, and it's $450
$450 for what is pretty much a Galaxy S7

Not bad.

But it has 64GB of internal storage, dual SIM/SIM+SD Card, a much better camera in terms of at least zoom, same RAM, same CPU, fingerprint sensor, 2.5k OLED screen, and other amazing specs
I think it might actually be better than the S7. Probably less locked down, it looks nice and doesn't blind you when you look at it :p
Oh, and really loud, front-facing speakers, with a 24bit DAC (am I saying that right?)
And they'll be releasing a version with 6GB RAM and some other features for like $530

1:25 AM
Sounds like a slight upgrade from my N6.
It has 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage.
And front-facing stereo speakers which are reasonably loud.
No fingerprint sensor though.

It has 4-6GB RAM and a fingerprint sensor
what are you looking at?

I really want something that can do high-speed photography.
So the 240fps @ 720p sounds pretty nice.

Yeah, this can do it

My Nexus 6 could too if Google wasn't so quick to abandon their flagship phones.

Oh yeah, the Axon 7 Pro will also have 128GB of internal storage (and it's still cheaper than the iPhone!)

1:27 AM
It's the same hardware as the OnePlus 2.

The Axon or the Nexus?

The OnePlus 2 has the same camera as my N6.
But Google didn't add a 60fps mode.
Even though the sensor has the capability.
It's frustrating knowing you have the tools to do something but you can't use it.

lol
Write your own driver :p

I tried to add it myself.

oh
heh
So the Axon 7 normal has a 3140mAh non-removable battery. The Pro has a 3250mAh. That's slightly better than my Note, with a more efficient CPU, GPU, etc and a smaller display. Cool

1:29 AM
^--- I don't know why they can't do it
That and the broken Bluetooth support have me reconsidering Nexus devices.

Because of Google Ara
@NathanOsman you should get a VZW GS3 :p

I'm in Canada - I need an unlocked phone.

'twas but a joke
But remember, all VZW LTE-capable phones are actually carrier-unlocked and generally support almost all to all global cellular bands
You're just stuck with SLOWWWW updates unless you unlock and flash custom

@NathanOsman OnePlus devices are nice. A friend has one.

1:35 AM
I'm tossing around the idea of getting a OnePlus 3.

have they announced it yet?

Still undecided though. I didn't budget for a new phone.
@Seth Not that I know of.

@NathanOsman I say go for the Axon and be my guinea pig :p

I'm not in the mood for being another guinea pig.

o_O
> ZTE’s first unlocked model will work with AT&T, T-Mobile and smaller GSM carriers, and a second version compatible with Verizon and Sprint may or may not be released later in the year.
:/

1:40 AM
@NathanOsman I really tried to be happy with the 5X
instead, i'm thinking that i should go to the Nokia Neo900
@Seth one sec, i'll send screenshots

AXON
I don't work for them, trust me

you mean ZTE @Zacharee1?

yesh

It just doesn't look right

@James that hardly looks different.

1:42 AM
@James Yeah, I'm looking at alternatives.

The Axon 7 is probably better than the S7 and it's cheaper

(both screenshot and the ZTE)

@Seth Look at the back and forward buttons...

@NathanOsman they're gasp not rounded!

@Seth It's super annoying with all the little tweaks. Default font changed too.

1:42 AM
if you can stand the downsides of motorola, they make great phones.

I have a machine with the old version, lemme do a comparison...

@NathanOsman looks fine to me.

Yeah, I liked my MotoG

@Seth Motorola AKA Google

@Seth What are the downsides?

1:43 AM
it's not the logos, it's the font @Seth

@Zacharee1 Lenovo owns them now.

wait what

the URL bar font is what's bugging me the most

yeesh

The font is like 2 points smaller.

1:43 AM
@NathanOsman Well I guess they might not be downsides for you, but no SD card and no removable battery are big ones for me.

@James you say you don't like the Axon 7's look?

The N6 has neither of those, so I wouldn't be loosing anything.

@Zacharee1 yeah, it looks weird.

@Seth I need my SD card

plus, off-brand droids and i have a bad history

1:44 AM
@James I actually really like it, but I am coming from a Note 4

@NathanOsman In that case try one out.

@James I don't think this is off-brand :p

Is there a decently priced one?

@James off brand droids don't need you for a bad history lol

All of them I think @NathanOsman

1:44 AM
@Zacharee1 non-samsung or Nexus is off-brand.
Motorola gets a pass sometimes because they commit to security updates

@James What about LG, HTC, Moto, all the other flagship brands?
They're pretty well known

@Zacharee1 LG, HTC haven't made commitments about security (to the best of my knowledge)

And seriously, by not welcoming other brands into Android, you're kind of defeating the whole purpose of AOSP :p

I welcome other brands. I just want them to commit to monthly security patches like the Nexus family.
Very, very few do that.

@NathanOsman Moto X Pure is $299 right now
is that decently priced for you?

1:47 AM
I'll look...

oh that's only on sale through the 31st.. Otherwise $399.

@James Very very few brands have other companies manufacturing their devices.
And I can tell you, I most certainly DO NOT get monthly security updates on my Note

@Zacharee1 I'm not following...
it's not for every samsung. And they don't have a great track record either.
Again: neo900.org < that's my dream phone, I think

this is why you get an officially supported cyanogen device.
or a oneplus.

@James I'm hinting that Google's mobile division can release those updates because they don't have to worry about making the phones
@Seth or an Axon 7 :p

1:49 AM
@James so old now...

@Zacharee1 ... then how can Tesla give me a better battery range via an in-app purchase?

oh my god those specs are old
@James what

@James err, what?

Have you heard of the blackphone @James? silentcircle.com/products-and-solutions/devices

1:51 AM
@James lol

If a car company can do that, then your silly little android OEM can ship AOSP security updates on time.

I think that's a logical fallacy, but continue

@James oh that's completely different..

@James all they did was lock part of the battery capacity behind a paywall. I don't follow

If NASA can land an SUV on the moon with one bit of software, and then remotely rewrite all of it so that it can drive around, then an android OEM can ship AOSP security updates on time.
we have the technology, this isn't hard.

1:52 AM
testing is the hard part

if a single person can manage a fleet of 10,000 virtual machines on amazon AWS via a single laptop, then you can... blah blah blah. This isn't rocket science.
I don't want to buy from a company that doesn't want to put in the effort. Maybe that means I'll pay a premium, but so be it. At least I'm getting what I'm paying for. :-)

I repeat, Samsung DOES NOT give monthly security updates by any means

@Zacharee1 you only have experience with one phone..

@Zacharee1 Not all samsung devices, no. But they also have locked down a good chunk of the default openings.

And Nexus only does because that's all Google has to concentrate on

1:54 AM
but maybe they don't. I dunno. They said they would on the Galaxy S devices.

@Seth But I see posts online about other models waiting and waiting and waiting for updates

@James exactly.
@Zacharee1 security patches != OS upgrades

@Seth How do you get a security patch with an update?

@Zacharee1 lollipop feature :)

To be fair, android shot itself in the foot BIG TIME back in the early days by letting carriers do it.

1:55 AM
@Seth what
@James seriously

and google has done a good job by moving a lot of the OS into apps from the play store
so rolling out updates to some stuff is as easy as hitting "update" in the play store

It's like the one advantage of the iPhone, besides the video stabilization in the 6S+
@James yeah, but that doesn't patch kernel vulnerabilities or vulnerabilities in proprietary system apps or settings, or networking or drivers or etc

$584 CAD for the Z7.

they're different things.

@Zacharee1 To which my reply is the same: They chose not to. And that's their choice. I don't have to buy from them, and that's ok.

1:57 AM
@NathanOsman that's a lot.

Yeah, but how do you get the security patch @Seth

@Zacharee1 somebody (I'm not 100% sure who) pushes it. I think the manufacturer.

So it shows up as a system update

kinda.

@Seth Considering the N6 was about $800 CAD, it's still pretty reasonable.

1:58 AM
It updates through the system update interface, yes.

So, should I get a Neo900 or a Blackberry classic?

@NathanOsman ah. Well then the Moto devices are definitely reasonable :)
Did you look at any of them?

Note I won't be looking at actually buying for another 4-5 months, i still need to put aside money for it.

@James ugh. Both entirely outdated and probably insecure because of it.

Once I upgraded the Pure to 64 GB of storage it was $399 :D

1:59 AM
@James We should change Neo to Archae

But I will agree to use it for a year.

@NathanOsman CAD? Sounds like a deal!

No, USD.

Ah.
517.87 CAD.

@Seth lol. The Neo900 is the n900 combined with modern guts.
