@Fabby What do you see when you go to Flag to Migrate? I only see the option to Migrate to AU Meta...

@RPi_Awesomeness There is no flag to migrate really. You need to use a custom flag and leave the mods a message.

@terdon Aaah. Just the one for Meta?

Yes. That flag dialog gives you the same choices as you would have if you voted to close. AU only has a migration path to its own meta so you don't see any other choices.

Ok, that makes sense
Hey guys. I'm printing an Ubuntu t-shirt for myself (since it's not the most economical for me to ship Ubuntu merch to the USA). Any suggestions for what I should put on it (Logo & name aside)?
I obviously have this design:
But I think that's ... kinda bare
Should I put something like "Linux for Human Beings" or similar?

@RPi_Awesomeness I never spoke about my Internet when you were on-line....

2:11 PM
No, but you pinged me ;)

and I would add on the T-shirt:
`$ man woman
No manual entry for woman

lol
Nice idea. I'll try that.
Wouldn't put it on this shirt necessarily, but that'd be a great shirt to wear to some dev con or other geeky event

I'm sorry, I must've wanted to send that to someone else on-line at the time whose name started with an R...
My apologies...

I had a shirt at one point that read - "Real men do it in assembly"

The heck? I accidentally DuckDuckGo'd v' and Katy Perry's Roar came up
hehe

2:13 PM
@RPi_Awesomeness you owe me a keyboard

@hbdgaf Oh?

My drink came out of my mouth on that one. I use it as an expression to mean "damn. that was really that funny"

@hbdgaf Oh ;)
I'm a little slow when I first wake up :)

:D
@RPi_Awesomeness: if you don't like the bash joke, what about:
Microsoft gives you Windows...
Ubuntu gives you the whole house!

Oh, I'm so making that shirt.Windows xD

2:22 PM

I'll be pleased when it hits stable. I hope their goal is next LTS.
If you haven't played with it at least a little, try it out

@hbdgaf I'll do that.
So, there's nothing that gets screwed up on 14.04?
And I can keep Unity alongside it without adverse affects, correct?

idk about unity. i've installed it alongside xfce on xubu

Okay. I'll probably test it in a VM, just in case.

2:33 PM
I like that they're rewriting everything to be Qt based. It's a good way to get developer buy-in on using Qt for everything. When Unity gets there, I think we'll see a lot of Qt ports of old projects.
Don't get me wrong, I was a gtk fanboi. I just at some point realized that if there's going to be this huge change to hit pygi/gobject introspection, we may as well just target another library instead.

Ooo. Turns out I may not want to be ordering a T-shirt after all...
Reviews seem a bit on the side of these t-shirts fade & shrink quickly

We had that at UnAmerican. Had to change our supply chain to fix it.

Microsoft gives you windows.

Linux gives you the whole house.

Ubuntu makes it work with zero configuration.

@Fabby @ I wouldn't make it like that (I'd tweak the sizes & whatnot) but that's a rough-draft.
@hbdgaf Well...maybe not quite zero configuration.

2:38 PM
Comparatively, it's zero configuration.

Comparatively, yes
Elementary OS, maybe, but Ubuntu still has a decent amount that you have to manually configure if you want the best performance.

Good man!

Like my use of Comic Sans?
;)

yes! :)

I'm installing LXQT on my laptop now...pray it doesn't break everything :D

2:41 PM
It won't... I hope

Works fine here... anyway, there could be another set of lines in there

For the ultimate in configuration use BSD

You'll be screwing with it for hours to get it to work on your hardware though.

BSD. That's totally separate from Linux, correct?

Yeah, totally different.
It feels similar, but it's not the same.

Linus actually said that if BSD had existed sooner, he wouldn't have created Linux.
Wonder how the world would be then!

user136984
2:45 PM
What license is the official Ubuntu logo under?

@RPi_Awesomeness BSD would have better driver support for sure

user136984
Or is it an "All right reserved"?

@Toroidal I believe it's GPL or one of the open licenses
I mean, I contacted Canonical about creating a t-shirt and they gave me the go-ahead so long as I didn't sell it commercially.
Wow. It only needs to download 24MB

The Ubuntu logo license basically says "you can't use it without permission" and if you use it personally, I don't see them arresting you on streetcorners. Just saying.

That truly is a light DE

user136984
2:47 PM
@RPi_Awesomeness How can I find out the actual license?

@Toroidal Beats me. Contact Canonical I guess

user136984
Ok.

user136984
@RPi_Awesomeness Is there a specific department or something that I have to contact there or something?

user136984
Or is it just the normal "Contact Us" page?

2:48 PM
@Toroidal Dunno
You'd have to search the site. I believe on the Contact Us page there's an option to send it to whatever department it belongs with

user136984
Just to see if it is similar, what do you plan to do with the t-shirt you created or going to create?

@Toroidal Just print it and wear it :)

user136984
Ok

user136984
So would you be allowed to distribute free copies of it or anything like that?

We are really pleased to hear about your interest in Ubuntu.

To keep the balance between the integrity of our trademarks and the ability to customise and promote Ubuntu, we’ve tried to define a reasonable intellectual property policy, which you can read here: ubuntu.com/legal/terms-and-policies/…. As you can see from the policy, to use Ubuntu trademarks commercially would require a licence from us.

Thank you very much for the offer for contributing the Community, and we are happy for you to produce the goods for your personal use - please go ahead!
I doubt it, but if I'm not making money off it ... I'm not sure
I could just give you the design and you could print it yourself

user136984
2:51 PM
Ok

user136984
:)

user136984
@RPi_Awesomeness :D :D :D

IT'S SO FLUFFY I'M GONNA DIE!!
Dang cute rabbits

user136984
:D

2:52 PM
Just think of it as don't be a dick rules apply. If you're giving away Ubuntu shirts, that's fine. If you're giving away Ubuntu logo morphed half way to biohazard and trying to fork the distro, you're probably not as safe. Just don't be a dick.

user136984

@RPi_Awesomeness: Do you have a colour inkjet?

@hbdgaf That makes sense
@Fabby Yeah, but it's really crap

@Toroidal Look to your left, look to your right, if it's not one of them, it's probably you.

user136984
:D

2:53 PM
Because HP used to sell special paper that allowed you to print your own t-shirts...

/me looks left, then right, and sees nobody. ... Forever alone

user136984
:D

@Fabby Probably still do, dunno how good of a shirt that would be though
Would be worth a shot though

It's iron-on... so you need a 100% cotton T-shirt, use the highest temp on the iron and ...
well... just iron it on!
I made a T-shirt like that 15 years ago when I got such a paper for free with my printer...

@hbdgaf Once lxqt-metathingy & lxqt-panel, do I have to full reboot, or just log out?
@Fabby Was it any good?

2:56 PM
It's good for white T-shirts and people with a lot of patience...

@Fabby :)

I had the T-shirt for 5 years...
(or maybe more)

And I want a black t-shirt, so that's kinda an issue.

It had the Windows 95 start button on the front with the letters 'STOP'

2:58 PM
instead of start (it must've been more like 20 years ago)
and then below that:
Bill Gates.
and below that (in small letters)
(before he stops you!)

Nice one
LXQT Downloaded & installed!
No adverse side-effects seen as of yet

Yeah, And I wore it to a Windows Developer conference...

The heck? I just logged out and my computer went to sleep.
Hrm. Not terribly pretty
But it is supposed to be a light DE
Though LXDE was relatively nice to look at
Why is the LXQT icon for the light theme a pizza cutter?

user136984
OMG! Look at what that James Kayla weird guy has put as an answer for this question! :D askubuntu.com/questions/577643/…

He's really strange
Spam?
Low quality

user136984
3:13 PM
Yeah, one of those.

LXQT is ... interesting. I almost feel like LXDE was faster though
Could be the window manager
LXQT is definitely not ready yet, or my system is just having issues...
Holy crap. Who knew restarting network-manager would lag your system this bad!
BSM uCode verification failed at ... umm
Hmm. Captiva is an interesting icon theme
Gonna give Moka & Ambiance a go for a while. Hooray for changeable icon themes!
Finally, Moka added an icon for GIMP

@terdon, no problem, I was not too sure if I should edit it but couldn't resist :-)
BTW: How can we sort of "bump" a question in AU meta? There are no bounties...

3:38 PM
@guntbert Edit it?

@RPi_Awesomeness, yes sounds good but OTH editing just for the sake of bumping seems weird too. Background: I just stumbled over the issue from meta.askubuntu.com/q/13461/117103, which has no definite answer and no course of action.

'cause I'm totally that muscular

3:54 PM
@guntbert Fair enough, I don't think I'd be able to resist either if it were a language I spoke. I can only imagine how horrible that translation is :)
@guntbert Editing/voting etc should do it. Just like on the main site.

hi
Why doesn't my screen lock when I'm logged in as root?

4:24 PM
@Fabby This might be a site to recommend the guy on meta. Don't know German so I thought I'd pass it by you first ;)

@terdon I was going to ask you: did you take German in High school? Because your German is even worse then mine! :P ;-)
(but then I saw the comments)
@Seth: I know that when the close vote queue is below 1000 it only allows 20 votes per day, but I have another 30 votes to cast... How can i use them up? (I've been thinking about opening them in a new tab and "skipping" 20 votes and then work my way trhough another 20... Would that be considered vote fraud???

user136984
4:41 PM
I wish that people wouldn't use double-negatives in questions! :D

@Toroidal it's bad English is all...
There are languages that do use double negatives and these people just make
more mistakes using them when using English as it comes natural to them...
E.g. @blade19899 sometimes typical Dutch mistakes, so that even when I wouldn't know he's Dutch, I would infer it from his language use...

@Fabby watch the front page? Take a break? Answer some questions? Until 10k there isn't really much you can do.

Can't not share it...

user136984
@hbdgaf: :D

5:16 PM
@Seth huh?

You asked "How do I use my votes after I've finished by reviews".

aaah! :)
I'll try using them up with the workaround tomorrow then...

user136984
Does anybody know any good websites where you can publish your own free Ubuntu desktop themes for people to download? :)

user136984
As I am going into that trade at the moment. (Well, they are not giving me anything in return so it's not really a trade, but you know what I mean. ;) :D )

Gtk or Qt?
gnome-look.org and kde-look.org respectively

user136984
5:31 PM
@hbdgaf: Ok, thanks! :)

user136984
Oh dear... I forgot that I set this as my desktop picture so when I came back and woke my computer up I got a big shock! :D

user136984

user136984
I don't know what I was thinking about when I made it! :D

user136984
And more to the point why I set it as my desktop picture... :D

user136984
Just for legal reasons I have to say: I hold copyright for the above image, and it is licensed under this license: creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0

user136984
5:36 PM
:D

user136984
By the way, it is called "Iron Hound". >:)

Oh goodness!
I'm seeing a weird cross between the hound from the Sherlock episode Hounds of Baskerville and Sauron

It looks less like a hound and more like a serpent to me.

Well, the dog/hound in the episode had blood red glowing eyes
So that's where it's from.
Plus, @Toroidal mentioned hound

user136984
Well, I had to come up with a name for it quick! :D

user136984
5:51 PM
@RPi_Awesomeness: episode?

user136984
I just randomly made it, it's not based on anything.

Umm, I think it's the third one on the second season
It's pretty darn creepy.

user136984
:D

All environmental/suggested horror, so don't watch it late at night D:

user136984
Well, I don't think that I know the series which you are referring to.

user136984
5:52 PM
What is it called?

user136984
Well, I do like to spice up my dreams a little you know! ;) :D

user136984
Oh wait...

user136984
You mentioned the series already!

user136984
:D

user136984
facepalm

user136984
5:59 PM
@RPi_Awesomeness: And I do know the Sherlock series and the episode which you are refering to... :D I just didn't read the bit where you said what it looked like facepalm... :D

user136984
@RPi_Awesomeness Well, it's exactly the kind of thing that I watch at midnight so... :D

user136984
6:16 PM
@RPi_Awesomeness: And I have decided to make it my profile picture here so you will probably be seeing a lot more of it! :D

has anyone toyed with celery tasks in python 3 but queued from python 2?

@Toroidal Oh joy :)

user136984
@RPi_Awesomeness >:)

user136984
:D

user136984
@Fabby: What do you think of my new profile picture? >:) ;D

6:18 PM
serpent door is what i see when i look at it, but that is my Rorschach result.

You do look carbon-based now, but you still don't look very male..
:D

user136984
:D

user136984
@Fabby Oh come on! :D

user136984
Could someone at some point answer my question here, you know I have lots of TV to catch up on and this is stopping me! :D

user136984
By the way is it true that by uploading an image to flickr that I am actually giving them copyright of my image?

user136984
6:29 PM
@hbdgaf: What was the removed message? :)

Nothing going on there... move along.

user136984
It is legal to use SHODAN? I assume it is, but at what point would it become at all illegal if it is not actually illegal to use the service?

user136984
I don't use it.

user136984
But just wondering.

At this point, the people that run Shodan assume all the risk. You just consume the data. That may change if recent legislation in the US gets through.
Speaking only from a US perspective... I have no idea how the law applies in your country.

Q: How can I run a script as sudo and for it to not ask me for a password?

crossboy007I want to run the following script: #!/bin/bash if grep -qs 'MinecraftServer' /media/kiancross/MinecraftServer/MinecraftServer; then echo "Disk already mounted, server boot will continue" else mount /dev/sda1 /media/kiancross/MinecraftServer fi sudo mount /dev/sda1 /media/kiancross/Mi...

I sort of moved on from that period in my life though. I'm just applying all the "hacking" to other stuff. Breaking stuff seemed a little easy and just made lots of people angry. So...
So, on to some easy listening

7:05 PM
@Toroidal no. I think they just reserved a license to use it
So just a royalty free usage, say they put a collage of pictures to promote flickr using user photos or such..
Would be under section 9b,
@Toroidal And you keep copyright, they just get to use it, and if you remove - "This license exists only for as long as you elect to continue to include such Content on the Yahoo Services and will terminate at the time you remove or Yahoo removes such Content from the Yahoo Services."
Plus I'm no lawyer, so read it yourself, and if you have something really important, don't put it up till you talk to one.

7:28 PM
Yeah, never post anything anywhere that matters if you don't own the metal is generally the rule.

Hi @hbdgaf how's everything

Still moving forward. My side-project is going well. On the day job one of my guys walked off the job on a day I wasn't there, so we have to have a sit-down.

user136984
@hbdgaf: Well the stuff that I was planning to upload I hold copyright for.

Not if you upload it to certain places ;)

@Toroidal I know, that's just an observation. For a lot of the stuff I work on, I put some moving parts on github, but the finished product never gets there. I do this for a reason.

user136984
7:34 PM
@hbdgaf Ok. :)

habit fella, just habit.
@Mateo It doesn't make me happy that the fellow walked off the job. I have to talk to him about it, but at least he showed up the next day. He was going to quit, but his mother talked him in to going to work. So, it's delicate, but I understand his pain points.
You see my lxqt shirt proposal?

user136984
On YouTube can you have multiple channels associated with the same Google account?

Like Leonardo with his tank, he put a gear on the wrong side on purpose, would lock up if made exactly to plan

I'm not sure where that was directed... probably the code on github thing.

@hbdgaf haha, I see it now.
Yeah, I was a bit slow in typing it on the phone

7:39 PM
I just upped it again in case you couldn't find it ;)

There was a whole show that remade a bunch of his inventions, and found a lot that just had one key component left out

Yeah, part of genius is making sure people don't take advantage.

That and he wrote backwards

@hbdgaf I tried LXQT (installed like you said) and it, somehow, partially broke my networking.

That's unusual.
@Mateo In actuality, he might have been dyslexic or had some other mental problem. Overstimulation of the brain often manifests in weird ways.
@RPi_Awesomeness That wasn't my experience, but I'm not saying it can't happen. I just didn't see that.

7:44 PM
After a while I lose a connection and can't reconnect, then I get some error constantly spewing onto the screen when I reboot.
Something about BSM uCode verification failed
And a bunch of other complicated crap I can't remember.

I don't think that's related to lxqt. I think it's just an error that probably existed just being more vocal about it.

LXQT felt strangely slow, so I just removed it.
@hbdgaf That's just it, it happened in Unity too

So, more likely something related to the latest updates, not lxqt
We did just have an update rollout.

@hbdgaf Could be. But I was using my laptop all last night after upgrading and it didn't give me any issues. Oh well, it's nbd

yeah, but you didn't reboot in the middle... so it could be that.
I'ld put money on it.

7:50 PM
@Toroidal: Not really: flickr.com/creativecommons

Yurgh. Kdenlive needs to fix this darn SegFault when undoing bug.

user136984
@Fabby: Thanks I am taking a look now!

I'd offer a fix, but I know absolutely nothing about their code & how to fix that sort of issue.

Like I said...
I won't be angry because you broke it, but don't blame it on something else ;)

Mine bug. First bug officially reported to a bug tracker!

user136984
8:05 PM
Does anyone know of an SE site for Art and that sort of thing? Or any plans for one? :)

@hbdgaf: Great picture!

user136984
@Fabby @hbdgaf: I agree, great picture! I wonder if the dog really stuck its head in the bin, or whether someone just put the lid on it for the picture! :D

@Toroidal Dog probably did it himself :)
'cause #dogs

user136984
@RPi_Awesomeness :D

Is there a unity-look or something like gnome-look.org for Unity? Or do we use gnome-look for Unity?

user136984
8:26 PM
When 15.04 is released will it be the new LTS version?

user136984
I assume so, but just checking. :)

@Toroidal No, 16.04
LTS come every 2 years
every 4 releases

user136984
Oh.

user136984
Right, ok.

10.04 -> 12.04 -> 14.04

user136984
8:28 PM
So when 16.04 comes will 14.04 become an End Of Life version?

user136984
Or how does that work?

No. LTS releases remain supported for 5 years after release.
So, 10.04 is still supported
Even though 13.04 isn't

user136984
@RPi_Awesomeness: Right, ok. So what happens when you reach an EOL version? Do you stop getting updates or just support?

@Toroidal Erm, not sure
The other guys (@Seth @Mateo) might be able to answer that better :)

@Toroidal: updates go to another server

user136984
8:31 PM
@Fabby And are they ever removed so that you just have to upgrade?

Why the heck does the design of this thing I'm getting printed show up fine on my desktop, but seems all grainy and crap on my mom's laptop?

user136984
Also, does anyone know when GIMP 2.10 will be released?

They're not updated any more and if you've got a support contract, it gets progressively more expensive, so that in the end it's cheaper to upgrade

They're all still there!
All updates for dapper dragon or whatever it was...

8:32 PM
Drake
Dapper Drake

@RPi_Awesomeness: because your mom's laptop or your desktop is not colour calibrated...
(or both)

@Fabby Oh. That could be it. It's a macbook.
It looks like there's little frizzies around everything, especially text
My desktop (with a regular monitor) looks just fine

Tell dad to stop wasting money on Apple and start getting a good Internet connection!
:P

@Fabby It was given to us :)
And maybe we might be upgrading to a 3 Mbps connection

@Toroidal both

8:34 PM
(tell him about the giant on loam feet from Greek mythology!

Some people might support you if you ask very nicely, but most problems will be solved by upgrading.

PRAYING TO THE ALMIGHTY GOD-HEAD ABOVE WE DO

user136984
@Seth: Ok, thanks! :)

(and look it up and read it!)

user136984
8:35 PM
So does anyone know the release date for GIMP 2.10?

No, are there some new features or something?
@Fabby Is fuzzies around stuff in images a sign of a calibrated, or non-calibrated monitor?
"And theoretically, from now on it’s possible to have RAW files edited with GIMP directly"
Oh yes please :D
"New tool: Unified transformation"
Awesome!
"Heavily improved scaling quality: No- and LoHalo-Samplers"
Oh my gosh. Thank you.

@RPi_Awesomeness Is a window that looks less transparent a sign of a dirty or a clean window?

This was a huge issue I was having previously
Uh...dirty?
So, it's not calibrated

user136984
@RPi_Awesomeness Well there are some rather interesting new features, and bug fixes as documented in the GIMP roadmap for 2.10, but no release date is given: wiki.gimp.org/wiki/Roadmap And the last time this wiki page was updated was in 2013, so really they should be done by now...

@Toroidal "GIMP 2.10 could be released in late 2013."

user136984
8:41 PM
@RPi_Awesomeness But now it's 2015 and still no sign of it...

Yeah :(

user136984
You can download the source code and stuff, but is there any way to actually get in contact with the developers who are mainly working on it?

@Toroidal yes. but they probably want something non-trivial. Some are on sourceforge, some use a mailing list.

@RPiAwesomeness probably just a better screen...

@Mateo Yeah I figured as much

8:54 PM
Not much calibration will do, unless the pixel order is wrong. But usually that is really small stuff
@Toroidal yeah, the updates stop, have to change the sources to install stuff

user136984
@Mateo Ok

user136984
Wireshark didn't work very well.

user136984
And I would like to know if there is a command-line app for this too?

user136984

user136984
And then go...

user136984
Yum! Lovely data! :P :D

That sounds so sexual...
xD
So, Kdenlive has this tiny bug where audio is glitched slightly for the first ~2-3 secs after you start playing the video
And this time, the audio sounded like I was saying "buttering computers"
Oh computers. You lovable derps

10:09 PM
Just watching a playthrough of Dead Space. Those graphics are pretty darn good for 2008
Video editing complete. Elementary OS Freya Beta 1 installation on Virtualbox on Ubuntu 14.04 tutorial video rendered

jrg
What do you use for video and audio capture?

@jrg Video, I use SimpleScreenRecorder & I also use that for capturing any audio from the computer itself. Audio as in myself speaking, I just use Audacity
Oh, gosh dangit.
I render out this video...and forget to include my intro
facepalm
Okay. Dead space is creepy.
Not watching this late at night
