Q: Why can't I run any Android NDK commands?

TheBuzzSawI was running Mint 12 before, and everything was working there. I switched to Ubuntu 12.04, and now I am very frustrated. When I run ndk-build, I get /home/buzz/ndk/prebuilt/linux-x86/bin/make: not found So, I changed to that folder directly. When I type in ./make, I get bash: ./make: No suc...

A: I can't install Ubuntu on Windows 7

Colain windows 7. The windows 7 publishers blocked to instal ubuntu because if ubuntu in installed in your computer their windows software purchase will decrease I think thats why why u cant install

@Mitch "I switched to Ubuntu 12.04, and now I am very frustrated."
he's having issues with Ubuntu
so why would this be offtopic?

Who's asking? Its about Linux Mint. See the FAQ :)

A: I can't install Ubuntu on Windows 7

JXPheonixYou cannot install two OS's onto the same partition. It is a universal computing law. Wubi, as suggested as Sergey, is not a way to install on the same partition, rather just trickery that puts ubuntu in a file. However, many users do not like wubi (as it is slower than normal ubuntu). You will ...

3:09 PM
@Mitch ... but he says in the first sentence that he has switched to ubuntu 12.04

what happens if a person has only 1 rep left and his/her answer was downvoted? is there such a thing as a negative rep? or the rep point will be deducted when he/she earns enough points?

@fossfreedom Sorry didn't catch that. Just got up. Can the close vote be reversed?

no - but your comment can be.

I already did.

@msPeachy no

3:13 PM
@msPeachy It just bottoms out at 1

@JorgeCastro So downvotes past 1 are not stored until sufficient rep?

evidently coinstar doesn't think dead cmos batteries are nickels like i do

IIRC, i think it was Jorge's edit + upvote on my first answer that got me going.

@aking1012 lol?
@jokerdino which is for another day? my deleted, or @Anwar's comment?

3:30 PM
I want to see your first answer

I am now answering one of my question with "No, It's not possible" and going to accept that
Believe me, I got three upvotes and accept on my first answer!

my first question, no vote, second question (now deleted) got one vote. then my first answer vote.

I somehow managed to get a bounty on my second answer.

@ObsessiveFOSS the hell?
that's a year old post

It still is a URL (and not spam).

/me gets emailed on each notification

And the link could be long-dead by now. Lucky that it isn't.

This is my first question - askubuntu.com/questions/134497/… and I answered that!

@ObsessiveFOSS you could edit instead

3:38 PM

@ObsessiveFOSS thanks for making my day a bit worse.
/me now has an annoyance level of 9000

Odd first question I guess: askubuntu.com/questions/15220/…

@aking1012 I have a question to you, if you don't mind

okay, let's keep to deep purple then.

Actually at least I have an excuse to be here, posting this from inside a Ubuntu.
Not sure about the others.

heh. welcome Ubuntero.

slightly related: is it "an Ubuntu" or "a Ubuntu"?

an Ubuntu machine.

@AnwarShah I was making a joke.

3:52 PM
we have got an English enthusiast here

A pun, even.

@jokerdino do you agree?

With?

There's nothing to agree or not agree on.
Ubuntu ( ) is a computer operating system based on the Debian Linux distribution and distributed as free and open source software, using its own desktop environment. It is named after the Southern African philosophy of ubuntu ("humanity towards others"). As of 2012, according to online surveys, Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distribution on desktop/laptop personal computers, and most Ubuntu coverage focuses on its use in that market. However, it is also popular on servers and for cloud computing. Ubuntu is sponsored by the UK-based company Canonical Ltd., owned by South African entrep...

The Mariana Trench is the deepest part of the world's oceans, and the lowest elevation of the surface of the Earth's crust. It is currently estimated to be up to deep. It reaches a maximum-known depth of about at the Vityaz-1 Deep and about at the Challenger Deep, a small slot-shaped valley in its floor, at its southern end. So, what is the correct pronunciation of "GNU"?

Ugh.

You are late, I have already gone!

@AnwarShah Good Night

No, I submitted it :)
...and their screenshot upload form is broken.

Either way, neat. And sorry about no screenshot :(

4:27 PM
That's okay.

@jokerdino FYI, here is a link which don't have any answer with upvotes , but i can't delete it askubuntu.com/questions/151515/…

he said something about a length of individual answer constraint as well. i'm not sure anyone outside SE is privy to all the little engine parts

github...i have a feature request for you. when searching for a package i should be able to sort by number of forks to get me towards the original or maintained package
kthx
welcome back mateo

hey
@GeorgeEdison I made an add for the mac version of NitroShare, I thought we could put up on Ask Diffrent to generate some help for packaging and localizing.
What do you think, It might need some more text

I like it, but visually I would have put the computer in between the words NitroShare and Mac to give it some weight balance. <-- knows you weren't asking him

5:00 PM
I would need to make sure it was all centered...
it was based on his orginal share box, so I wouldn't want to move the computer within the box
anyways, back to Ubuntu, how are things?

@AnwarShah I think it actually is possible.

@EliahKagan why not just change the udev rule that mounts it?

5:16 PM
@BrunoPereira I think that is a better approach. It just didn't seem to be working (as per comments on the two answers that proposed that).

Hey guys I need some assistance with gnome-tweak-tool
I have attempted installing it via terminal with command sudo apt-get-install gnome-tweak-tool or something of the likes.
Whenever I get to the "Advanced Settings" tab and look for the shell extensions there are none appearing.
anyone?

keep in mind that its a slow time, and might take a bit to find what your talking about. I can try it on my computer in a few minuets.

ok apology. I am just trying to get all this stuff sorted out after update to 12.04

@mateo_salta well enough i'm fighting with maven-x-plugin depending on higher version of maven than are in repo. very upsetting

@MatthewKaulfers might be a few more, my ubuntu is checking for disk errors

5:28 PM
I am still searching for an answer
BRB restarting system

@aking1012 so, did you need to install from source

that's not the problem. it builds fine. it's about getting a deb in ppa with maven

@MatthewKaulfers ok, check back in a bit, It will notify you if we use your name with @ symbol

@EliahKagan I have tested and works fine, it will depend on the fs, maybe that is the issue?

@mateo_salta I am back and still no luck

5:33 PM
@mateo_salta it's looking like that ugly, "no build download and run mvn install post-install" hack is going to be the only even relatively straightforward way to do it

like a script, that installs the program.....

@BrunoPereira I'm glad to know it works (generally). While I don't particularly like the idea of having mount points directly in /, I see no reason why /media should have to be used. ...You may want to comment. (Or talk to @AnwarShah here first if you prefer; he had tested it and not gotten it to work.)

sort of yes. it's not perfect from a package management perspective it wouldn't remove all files on uninstall

@MatthewKaulfers I can confirm "Shell Extensions" is blank on mine too

I am currently running 12.04LTS and it comes with gnome 3 already. I read somewhere that I need to update it before the shell extensions will show. Any ideas?

5:38 PM
@aking1012 , that is a bit rough, so its something that you need for the program you showed me earlier?

1 more close vote needed to dupe this:

Q: How do I dual-boot Windows by default?

ZachI am new to Ubuntu, but have used Macs and PCs for years. I am referencing the idea of how on a Mac, and you install Boot Camp, how Mac automatically runs by default, and you can run Windows by holding down the option key. I will be mainly using Windows, and I don't want to have to choose w...

@mateo_salta no. that's python, which packages easily. this is just wrapping up someone else's app in to a deb

@aking1012 , oh ok

@mateo_salta: Sorry, I was away for a few minutes.
The ad looks awesome.

@GeorgeEdison do you think the second one would be better, or possibly different wording?

5:44 PM
The "select machine" one?

If I shut off unity will gnome take precedence? Or does gnome actually need unity to run?

@GeorgeEdison , that was to show aking, that is actually the third picture I put up, So the "Help out on GitHub" one
@MatthewKaulfers , are there certain extensions that you have tried to install, I think that they only show up once you get some.

@mateo_salta I will give it a try and see what happens with it.

Q: Upgrading Gnome Shell Extensions

CerinI recently upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04, and all the gnome shell extensions listed by the Gnome Tweak tool are disabled. What's the easiest way to fix/upgrade them? Do I need to manually delete, re-download and install them?

also that may be relevant... I'm not sure about Gnome 3, as I don't have the graphics for it.

@mateo_salta I already attempted to install gnome extensions and it still shows blank. I have to figure out how to upgrade gnome as it isn't in the software update center.

5:50 PM
try looking into gnome-panel

@mateo_salta That one looks nice.

Q: Gnome Shell Extension Empty

JesterHere is the situation. Changed unity shell to gnome shell. Installed the gnome tweak tool, installed the shell extension, themes, etc...everything i normally need to do that is installed When i go to gnome tweak tool, and click on shell extension, the right list is empty I've surfed the web and...

Still no luck with this thing. I got it upgraded to 3.4.1

@GeorgeEdison do you want me to have the link to the main part, or the wiki home?
@MatthewKaulfers do you have panels on top and bottom?

Please clarify

6:00 PM
@mateo_salta Whataver you think is best - perhaps the GitHub page would be a good idea.

@MatthewKaulfers does Gnome look like this-
with the panel on bottom too

not at all xD I am doing something wrong lol. Give me a few going to try and reinstall.

no, ok- that's good then

GOOD?!?!? yeh your right sighs*

That seemed to be the problem with someone else, and just making sure it wasn't the same

6:03 PM
I believe I am going to make a wiki about this issue I am having.
Yesterday I created a wiki on the NviDia driver. There wasn't a clear cut instructions on doing it.
So what are you guys working on? I may be of assistance.

yep, there is a video floating around, google "linus torvalds nvidia"
@MatthewKaulfers , GeorgeEdison made a program for sharing between computers on a network, It is cross platform launchpad.net/nitroshare

OH! Thats cool. Im going to check it out

I'm trying to work through some of the Mac issues.

What seems to be the issue with it? I know C++ so maybe I could be of assitance

I'ts a Qt app, do you have a Mac?

6:08 PM
Yes

I have mac/pc/linux machines

awesome, here is where we are working on it github.com/nathan-osman/NitroShare-Mac
the big issue is that I have no Idea what i'm doing when it comes to mac packaging, so we need to confirm that the package works( in the downloads area), and there might be a bug when you close a share box, so we need to find out if that is just my mac, or affects others.

okay so just grab it and test it?

That would be awesome.

6:13 PM
working on it

The .dmg should be self contained.

And then you can "clone" the source to your computer and build it with qt creator, if you are feeling adventurous, git hub has a nice mac interface http://mac.github.com/

lol already doing that also xD

awesome

This is an idea i support fully as i need network support big time in my home with so many different OS running all at once

yeah, I always have problems sending files between mac/linux/windows

6:16 PM
particularly mac>pc issues xD
@mateo_salta I hate to break it to you but it appears it's your machine
its all packaged properly also just to let you know

So, you can add and remove share boxes no problem

trying that again just to make sure it wasn't a fluke
yep works perfectly i did it 10x and have a freakin box orgy on my desktop now

nice

W8!>!>
Another problem removing them causes it to crash.

Oh, it does crash on removing them....

6:22 PM
I am going to grab the code and see if I can find what is causing conflicts.

If it does that on your computer too, that would be bug pritory #1, here is my bug report if that helps, github.com/nathan-osman/NitroShare-Mac/issues/1

ok
oh you have a bug with it not staying on bottom??

So you can reproduce the crash when boxes are removed?
Let me pull up the code...

yeah, underneath all the windows
so, it's more a localization issue

6:26 PM
The code for removing them is in src/CTrayIcon.cpp:119.

ok wasn't sure what that was referring to. Oh once I installed the gnome3 again now my grub menu has a picture on it?

yeah that happend to me once,

It doesn't do much more than add items to the HUD.

oh nice!
does the api support things like the notifications and all that?

I haven't added that to the script yet.
But yeah, I did try it in the Chromium console and it does work.

Going down for reboot...

ah great, @MatthewKaulfers your talking about the Grub background solution right?

@mateo_salta No once I installed the gnome it won't load the desktop anymore just stays black. I can access terminal via CTRL+ALT+F1 though
It is acting like it is missing a driver or something.
going to have to reinstall ubuntu.. :(

6:45 PM
try recovery mode first

ok
ok i got it to boot up with a previous version

close call

now i have to fix it. any idea why it won't load gnome instead of unity?

did you install a ppa to get the latest gnome 3? that might cause problems.

yes
it also updated my kernel to 3.2.0-27

6:52 PM
YAY!! I finally got the email logger to work with Django.
I think I need to adjust SMTP settings though...

yeah, its a dual boot with usb, install grub type question, which would it be closer too, dual booting, installing from usb, or reinstalling grub....

well damn. Removing the kernel via your post @mateo_salta well.... lets just say it removes all kernels xD
