I may be missing an obvious question, but i have some phantom process thats looping itself and filling a log file somewhere, is there a better way to find it than du -h'ing around?
For 11.10:
This is a common issue on the forums - the move to gnome3 has dumped many of the customisation features that were available in gnome2.
One GUI tool that exists in Software Center is - its a partial solution to allow you to customise some of the desktop.

that answer is for fonts,
but the same general principle is for the theme.
you'll want to change the GTK+ theme entry to adwaita, as well as your window theme.
I am running a web server at home using Ubuntu 11.4 (maybe? I can't 100% recall) on an older AMD 2400+ desktop with 1 or 2 GB of RAM. Sorry I can't recall the details 100%.
Anyway, I have a KVM hooked up to a monitor and PS2 keyboard that I use to switch between the server and my iMac (The keybo...
@marcoCeppi the cool thing with steel bikes is also that they aren't as firm as a aluminum bike is, so when you go fast and look down (which you do) you see the fork swinging around it's awesome! and totally scary! :D
Sounds like a job for gnome-search-tool.
It can perform partial matches on the file name and can perform a search on more options:

Modification date

I really dislike the slight dark-purple tint to the side-launcher bar and shell surrounding the menu after pressing the meta key. How can I set this to another color?
@jrg Lol, well - Second full day of using Ubuntu (Yay me!) and this is really getting on my nerves.... (second day of only server edition/just command line... learning on the job/fast)
ok... Basically, I have a test ESX box which has two copies of Ubuntu Server running, I am SSH'ed to the second box fine, and not had any issue... the first box however, after a random period just drops my connection, and, if I try to open putty again, it gives me a warning about the SSH key has changed/it is dangerous - and, my password just gives "access denied"... However, I can ssh from box 2 to box1, then, restart ssh, and, if I use putty, it warns me that the key has changed again, but
lets me log on... until the next time it happens
I know where my limits are, and, I am trying to learn Linux at the moment, but, this doesn't seem like it is my fault/anything I have done and it has really confused me
Again, I know I am not a Linux expert (look at my Superuser profile if you don't know me)... but, when trying to learn something, it is annoying when things like this happen - but, I am certain it isn't anything I am doing...
@jrg The staging is server is highly restricted to block everything other than the office IP, so, if it was the rule (AFAIK) nothing - esx, ubuntu 2 e.t.c would work if it was that
@DevC It is a custom built chat program by the Stack Exchange team
I have an ESX box which I have loaded with two Ubuntu Server machines.
During setup, I chose no additional packages to install as I just wanted a lightweight machine for testing.
The first thing I did was change the root password via sudo passwd
After ESX got on my nerves through lag, I decide...
