A: Why doesn't Inkscape recognize the Ubuntu color palettes?

Octavian DamieanThe problem is that the color palettes were not saved correctly. I have re-saved them in a proper format and put them on Ubuntu One. Here are the files. In the archive there is now a readme file explaining the installation process as well.

@jrg Cool, never knew you had a YouTube channel! Subscribed. :)

jrg
@WarriorIng64 heh. I rarely post anything.
Random videos of bison, the occasional bug report, that's about it. :)
but thanks for following anyway!

Still looks more frequent than my posts...
Ugh, anyone else notice that the pictures for users on one's YouTube channel under Friends, Subscribers and Comments are all big and scattered about? It amazes me that this is also the only place on YouTube where there is no "Report a problem" link at the bottom. :P
This is why I don't visit my channel often now...it's like an itch I can't scratch

1:36 AM
Well, tried reporting it via their help forum...MAYBE someone will see it, but I don't think Google's support is anywhere near as good as what Ubuntu users get.

Q: SOLVED Install MythTV & 11.10 on Lenovo S12 (Intel atom) with wireless

keepitsimpleengineerThis is how I installed Ubuntu 11.10 and MythTV client on my Lenovo S12 (Intel Atom) laptop and use it using WiFi (see additional notes at end). I did this because the upgrade from 11.04 bricked the laptop. Note that the partitions on the Lenovo standard disk were already in place for this in...

Not even going to touch that one.
Unless, but I dunno...could it be flagged as Not A Real Question? It has a problem and solution, but it seems like it was just posted because somebody solved a problem they had and decided to share how they fixed it.

I would like to report that juju debug-log is useless.
That is all.

Ah, here is the troublesome Ubuntu Forums post that lead to that mess: ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1874546
Perhaps someone needs to post there with some clarification on how to actually approach posting Mythbuntu how-to's on Ask Ubuntu to match our format...
Meh, flagged it. Now it will probably be edited so that it's a proper Q&A and my flag gets rejected, if prior experience tells me anything.

fixed a bug in Ubuntu
The Inkscape palette file that is available on design.c.com is defective. It must have been broken while saving or something. A more in depth explanation of the problem here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/80864/why-doesnt-inkscape-recognize-the-ubuntu-color-palettes As my answer says I have re-saved it in a proper format, added a readme file explaining the installation process and compressed it into a tar.gz which can be downloaded from the attachments. The current archive should be replaced with my fixed version. It's current location is here: http://design.canonical.com/the-toolkit/ubuntu-logo-and-circle-of-friends/ The direct link to the file is here: http://design.canonical.com/brand/Tools/colour_palettes/gimp_palettes.zip

whats up with all those chars?

Something with your editor, it's not using proper " characters

im using gedit
Did it with emacs , still the same?

Nope, didn't work

1:16 PM
@AmithKK you are using “lcd.txt” ; (and in many other places) when you should be using "lcd.txt", you are using the wrong char in your code I think

Ah!
Thanks!

@AmithKK much better :D

@AmithKK Just use 4 hard spaces
You don't need to use a hard indent

on??

jrg
that file,

each of the if blocks
import serial
import time
import urllib

# Create serial connection to arduino
ser = serial.Serial('/dev/ttyACM0', 9600, timeout=0)
url = '/var/www/lcd.txt'
previousMessage = "";

while(True):
    message = urllib.urlopen(url).read()
    if(previousMessage != message):
        ser.write(message)
        previousMessage = message
        print message

A: How do I install osCommerce?

OxwiviosCommerce requires PHP and MySQL, in other words, a LAMP stack (Linux (operating system), Apache HTTP Server, MySQL (database software) and PHP). osCommerce need only to be copied to the document root, /var/www/. Further, we need to create a database and user in MySQL for osCommerce to use. In...

Hey @Oxwivi

Been experimenting with osCommerce, need to ask something regarding web server permissions.
@AmithKK Hey, been a while.

1:45 PM
Morning all

jrg
2:19 PM
Ok, Mom just told me about a $70 android tablet. should I go for it?

@jrg yea
what tablet

Oli
@jrg Probably not.

@Oli for $70! why not.

jrg
Reviews are good, they just claim it's slow

2:20 PM
slow with the stock ROM

jrg
i don't care about slow, I'm used to netbook speeds. :P
what i'm curious about is this: Are there any "good" ssh clients for Android?
(private key support, non standard ports, stuff like that)

Oli
@rlemon Because cheap electronics are cheaply built. They tend to use old, old versions of Android, poor batteries and awful screens.

I think it depends on the version of android you are using.

Oli
And there's nigh-on-no community support
I'd save up some and buy a Amazon Fire, if I were you.

No, you shouldn't go for it.

2:22 PM
Mine was cheap because it used a crippled version of Froyo.. however with the massive amount of community support I was able to flash it with like 4/5 different versions of Android.

@jrg Get a decent tablet if you want but don't touch the cheap ones.

jrg
@OctavianDamiean experience?

I have a Viewsonic G Tablet.
by no means a high end tablet - but boasts much better specs than that novel.

jrg
So the opinion is "don't get it"?

Well, 1.) I'm an Android developer and know quite a lot of devices and 2.) I have first hand experience of cheap vs. not-so-cheap Android devices.

jrg
2:24 PM
Hm..

The screens are awful as @Oli said and most of the time you won't have access to the Android Market which is a big minus.

Viewsonic G-Tablet $250 (or less if you look around) - and can be loaded with a number of different ROMS

jrg
eek, a freakin' STYLUS IS REQUIRED?!

certain versions of the OS support skype video. most if not all support flash and market

jrg
android 1.5.... that's ancient, right?

2:26 PM
On top of that, you don't have a guaranteed upgrade path to newer Android version with such low-end devices.
It is.
Bugged and ancient.

jrg
ok, i'll take a look, but probably won't get it.

You should look for a Honeycomb tablet.
Honeycomb is 3.x by the way.

jrg
if I'm not "impressed" with it, I'll just get a Fire, since that seems to get good battery life and reviews.

Kindle Fire?

jrg
yeah

2:31 PM
Also a big big problem with those low-end tablets is that the display is a resistive and not a capacitive one like on higher-end devices.

Why the process priority of Pulseaudio is -11? http://askubuntu.com/questions/81260/why-the-process-priority-of-pulseaudio-is-11 #pulseaudio

jrg
Hm...

jrg
2:46 PM
Oh, I can't even use Firefox for android with this thing... ew.

Go for an Asus Transformer.
Or a Galaxy Tab.

jrg
the review of the transformer seems a little less than stellar.
the galaxy tab seems ok though
(not to mention I dislike asus and their hardware, their netbook sucks)

Um, I'm late to the party, but who needs a tablet and for what purpose, if I may ask?
@jrg Asus Eee PC have good reputation. Though I'm not a fan of the entire netbook category.

jrg
@Oxwivi tl;dr: i got told about a cheap tablet, been playing with the idea for a few months, decided to ask here first because i trust you guys judgement.

jrg
2:53 PM
@rlemon overkill dude, overkill. :P

@jrg What do you need the tablet for?

jrg
@Oxwivi playing movies, ssh client and web-based stuff.

I still think the Viewsonic G Tablet is a good inexpensive choice.

@jrg Go for x86-based tablets, if available in your area, and install Ubuntu.

2:55 PM
In my experience with Android, it's as frustrating as Windows when you need to dig deeper.

jrg
@rlemon well, except for that price, might as well plop down a little more and get the fire, with better community support....
@Oxwivi and make my battery life even worse? Nope. :P

@jrg Here is a review of a happy Asus Transformer owner. Forget reviews on the internet. Most of the time they come from people that didn't exactly know what they wanted in the first place and got mad when they eventually found out that the product they bought isn't what they wanted what they actually didn't even know.
That tablet is one of the best around. In terms of quality.

jrg
looks like a netbook in all the pictures I've seen. :P

Well because you can attach a keyboard which is not only a keyboard but also a second battery.

@jrg Generally, around the same battery life as netbooks.
@jrg Yeah, you can take it off too.

jrg
3:00 PM
i'll shop around a little bit more. thanks guys. :)

@jrg androidtablets.net They have some good reviews and community information on modding, what apps are supported, and also a good troubleshooting resource when you do own one.

Hi all!
Just checking in, before doing some writing :)

jrg
@rlemon Thanks, I'll take a look around.

WTF kinda support is that
I hope he isn't payed much.

doesn't even show up in the linux foundation printing page
you might be doomed

3:40 PM
Ok, Ive fixed the bugs: amith.dyndns-ip.com

is the closest I can find

Hello Guys!

seriously though... how is that helpful. "We offer linux drivers but we do not support them. Please refer to the Ubuntu community forums for more assistance" - I ask why they don't support them, "Because no one here uses linux and none of our clients use linux", - So I remind him that I am a client, and I use linux - no response.

Oli
@rlemon you have to pair the PPD up with the Konica Print Utility. Not sure where one finds that.

@rlemon most manufactures just give them to the linuxfoundation to put in distros

Oli
3:45 PM
@rlemon oh! it's the kmpu18.zip (12meg) file on the previous download page I linked to. Install that, then set it up using the right PPD.

it might be in openprinting-ppds

@Oli thanks, i'll give that a try.

Weirdly enough, I dont know why I had that on my HDD

@AmithKK do you own a bizhub printer?

@rlemon no...

@rlemon Also Im having two 7programs
@rlemon Both the partitions are on differnet drives

what i REALLY need is a video card and a second monitor.

One more(a 1TB WD)
An external(250 GB Transcend StoreJet)

It is very difficult to create proper fan art or material for release parties and LoCo events without the vector files of the Ubuntu animal logos. I suggest putting them online in the toolkit, possibly with a guide on how to use them in a proper way if required.

Stack Exchange gets a staggering amount of questions and answers every day.

Our goal is not only to provide great answers to the huge amount of questions, but to create awesome fossils of knowledge that can be consumed by generations to come.

New users on our sites need some extra TLC. Without them we can not grow our communities. However, often they are not aware of the rich formatting capabilities and various rules we enforce. Occasionally, they post “answers” that are not really “answers”. Sometimes they simply do not belong in the community they are trying to participate. Sometimes we are lucky, they are awesome and need to be enticed with a few upvotes. …

actually it's not 10k only
it's for people who have strunk and white already
