Don't worry, I do.

writing programs in your "spare time" doesn't count :P

jrg
@TheX lol
i'm back

@jrg everything okay? you were gone for a while...

jrg
@RolandTaylor Hey, fedora has delta packages.
never knew that
@TheX yeah, i'm fine, how're you?

@jrg do you live under a rock?

12:02 AM
@jrg Yeah, it's a lifesaver as far as bandwidth goes.

@jrg I am just dandy handy, the effects of the sugar is starting to go away, much to the delight of my wife...

I am so disappointed apt-get doesn't do that.

jrg
@TheX yeah, i guess i do.

apt-get should do that...

jrg
@TheX lol

12:03 AM
Even iOS is doing delta packs now...

jrg
@GeorgeEdison wish apt-get did that too.... :(
seems to be taking forever though...
ok, does rpm have the same file lock system as dpkg?

if I apply for Ubuntu Membership status will you vote for me?

jrg
yes, i'll root for you - can't vote though

Okay, that is one vote!

jrg
i'm not on the membership board. :P

12:07 AM
Oh okay then that is one root then!

jrg
:)

Although I will probably never try, because I am a loser...

jrg
that's a n00b yum mistake. sudo yum update - that doesn't update the software sources, that upgrades the whole system!
YUM: Y U NO BE LIKE APT-GET?!

it is yummy though!

jrg
agreed.

12:10 AM
well i need to go, talk to you later.

jrg
cya @TheX
i got so used to overlay scrollbars.... why can't all gnome-based distros use them!?!

Q: Charm parameters configured at deployment

Bruno PereiraI am creating a juju charm that needs to have parameters passed to the configuration upon deployment. I have looked around and I know you can use juju deploy <charm> --config="key:value;key2:value2" but I cannot figure out where do those fit in to while creating the charm it self. How can...

Aha!
@StefanoPalazzo: I... er, found a bug :)

what version of x server is ubuntu currently at?

12:48 AM
@BrunoPereira xserver-common (2:1.10.4-1ubuntu4.1)

@GeorgeEdison push it to your bzr branch
and then attach your branch to the bug
and tag it "new-charm"
mention in there the SMTP part, a reviewer will know what to do
ThinkUp is awesome, we need a charm for it. The project itself made a "ThinkUp launcher" that asks the user for creds, and then fires up thinkup in EC2. It could probably be used as a basis for a charm: https://github.com/waxpancake/thinkup-launcher
juju Charms Collection
Undecided / New
is the bug #

Hey guys
Anyone know if Bluetooth pairing in GNOME 3 is broken?

@JorgeCastro How do I attach my branch?
Just put a link to it in the comment?
I just went ahead and posted the comment.

1:08 AM
anyone?

I'm afraid not - the machine that I have Gnome 3 installed on doesn't have Bluetooth.
...and the one that does has Unity :)

lol...
Unity on GNOME3?
11.10?
mumbles curses

Both are 11.10.
I'm confused.

restarting the phone...

Are you trying to access your phone using Bluetooth?

1:15 AM
@GeorgeEdison lol... I'm mad at GNOME btw lol
yep

Are you using blueman?

well, not really my phone, and no

Don't even try to do it without blueman.

I have never gotten any Bluetooth stuff to work at all without blueman.

1:15 AM
I thought blueman wasn't being developed any more

I don't know... but you need it :)

is it okay if I cry?

out of frustration :D

Not until you install blueman :)

1:16 AM
I removed bluman when I upgraded to 11.10 because it wasn't getting updates
and the phone is taking it's cool time...

Are you using BitPim?

time which I don't have :)
well...
seems I reinstalled it and didn't know
pulls clumps of hair... out
WOW
@GeorgeEdison thank you again!

@GeorgeEdison there's an "attach branch" button on the right side of the page
I hooked it up though

@RolandTaylor For what?
@JorgeCastro Thanks :)

@GeorgeEdison blueman worked :)

1:31 AM
No problem... see what I mean about always using it?

yep :D

If there is one program I can't live without for Bluetooth, that's it right there.

Now my one problem...
is how do I get it to browse files on this phone :D
Nautilus won't open the phone :(

Certain phones don't offer that capability.
Are you sure your phone does?
Mine for example doesn't.

This one supposedly does :/
but it's not opening

1:41 AM
@JorgeCastro where is the document that you were making with the sample environments.yaml file? (you were making one right?)

for local config?
it's on the site

>_< I wish GNOME had an option to disable the notification for received files!

"juju local config" in the search should find it

IT'S ANNOYING

1:41 AM
great!
@JorgeCastro search returns no results

Q: How do I configure juju for local usage?

Jorge CastroI'm too cheap to pay for EC2, and I don't have enough servers to set up my own openstack, how do I configure juju to use Linux Containers (LXC) on something like my laptop?

@JorgeCastro fail -.-, sorry

unity lens ftw.

1:48 AM
still havent tried it (dont blame me, no time!)

good grief!
@GeorgeEdison can I cry now :D?
I've had about 100 of these!

have anybody experienced wrong window placement while trying to restore from gnome-shell sidebar (don't know the name)

and now they are going at a crazy pace (eating cpu)
hi @jrg

jrg
@RolandTaylor Hello from Fedora land... *_*

I don't have screenshot handy let me see if I can reproduce

jrg
1:52 AM
another reason I should be using Ubuntu instead: These fonts make my eyes bleed...

jrg
@RolandTaylor are you.... doing what I think you are?!

...
no
that is GNOME telling me I received files

jrg
are you really moving a ton of files from one device to another?

I can't do much of anything because it won't stop

jrg
1:53 AM
lol

haha
so as u can see thats how it looks once I restore an app

My God!

if I drag it (pressing Alt) can't click on anything

help!

jrg
@wisemonkey whoa.
no idea what's going on there, looks almost like a bug...

1:56 AM
I've installed webup8 extension called focus effect extension I wanted to see if anyone with same extension have issue?
I hate to file a bug where I don't know wat exactly caused it :(
well shell extension in webup8 ppa

jrg
@wisemonkey ah, third-party ppas.
that makes it difficult for us to help you...
since we don't know what the PPA has done to your system.

I know :-/ I avoid filing bug in such cases but always good to check with community there is always someone who has tried it ;)

@RolandTaylor: Still there?

@GeorgeEdison he's dead
This is his guardian angel.
The hydra killed him!

I wish I could tell you how to make the messages go away...
...but I don't use XFCE :)

2:08 AM
wait what?
I'm on Unity :D
(Unity, GNOME3)
They stopped.... but I'd like to know how to stop GNOME from bringing them up in the first place (gonna have to open a question I guess)

2:58 AM
@RolandTaylor Good idea.

Ouch... I asked this question a year-and-a-half ago.
It's awful.
Wow... and this answer isn't too helpful either.
And here is a controversial answer.

6:06 AM
The StackApplet bug is now fixed... but it will take a day or two for it to show up in the PPAs.

6:36 AM
nice!
But, what was the actual bug?

Well, the problem was that other users on the machine could configure the application.

that is a serious bug. :O

It is now fixed so that only the user running the application can configure it.
@jokerdino I know, but it's (thankfully) fixed.

yep, i am grateful as well.

It could have been worse - remote users were blocked from the configuration page thanks to some other code I wrote earlier.
Night all.

6:52 AM
Good night George!

7:31 AM
good morning all!

morning :P

Hello all

10:57 AM
hi @OctavianDamiean, @AmithKK

Hey @Greg

Finally got my home PC upgraded to 11.10 and am trying the new applications I'd earmarked.
Lotus Symphony is a really nice office suite - Why haven't I heard of this before??

I like Google Docs. :)

@Greg Because it hasnt been developed since hardy

11:02 AM
@AmithKK not officially - just downloaded the maverick 64bit version

@Greg O.o Link?

works really well, I much prefer it to LibreOffice

11:20 AM
@jrg Don't worry, The Bison was probably interested in Ubuntu and wanted to get in "touch" with his LoCo.

Can you answer this? Ubuntu 11.10 and quad monitors http://t.co/ojNPnOY9 #nvidia

Q: How do I set up a virtual network interface with its own IP address?

Stefano PalazzoI vaguely remember that it's possible to set up virtual network interfaces with their own IP addresses, using only one physical network connection. I can find a few guides on the internet that recommend setting these up in /etc/network/interfaces, but Ubuntu doesn't use this file. Therefore my q...

Octavian DamieanThe problem is that the color palettes were not saved correctly. I have re-saved them in a proper format and put them on Ubuntu One. Here are the files. In the archive there is now a readme file explaining the installation process as well. Update I've filed a bug against ubuntu-branding and se...

Is the one-boxing function broken?

You can't onebox self-clickers

I'm sorry?

You better be!

What is a self-clicker?

Oh, heh, I was just kidding about you needing to be sorry. It's when you use the short link format of /q/question_id/user_id

12:32 PM
Hmm, didn't know that. :)

Yeah, so you can use those selfclickers as I call them for lack of a better name and paste them on the internet
it's like using a referral code

Don't worry you'll get that back next UDS. I'll hide your Ubuntu pen. mean laughing

You can get badges depending on how much traffic you bring in

I see. I always wondered which link I should use for that.

Q: How well does The Onchip Graphics on the Core i5 2500K support unity

Amith KKHow well does the Onchip Graphics on the Core i5 2500k work with Unity on 11.10? Will I need a discreet graphics to run it?

Does anyone here use Photoshop in Wine? I'm attempting a set-up

Which version

@AmithKK I've got a license for CS5
been reading up about Wine support, sounds promising

No, Dont think it works

1:09 PM
Oh then, Carry on ....

You have to already have it installed in Windows, which I have.
@AmithKK ignorant to that...

jrg
@AmithKK didn't someone else already say that? :P

@jrg It was me, on IRC :P

1:24 PM
New feature?

hmmm, have followed the tutorial EXACTLY for getting Photoshop running through Wine, and I'm having no luck on the last step "wine Photoshop.exe" :(

1:44 PM
Hey, Can i post a @MarcoCeppi version of "The most interesting man in the world" ?

Now?

jrg
@AmithKK Speechless I be.

I don't know what to say.

I don't always regex
but when I do, it cuts 1.2K LOC

1:53 PM

ha

@jrg Your imo.im is not online

jrg
@AmithKK yeah, for good reason.

@jrg ?

I'm trying to build Wine on 64 bit, just done sudo apt-get build-dep wine1.3 but what directory do I perform ./configure and make from to build it?

jrg
1:55 PM
my iPod touch went white this morning. Woke up and it was like this, no way to get it back into normal mood. (fyi, this is the first time i've had a serious issue with any of the Apple products I've owned kill flamewar before it happens)
@Greg i think you need the source code...?

O.o what did you do, did you try Recovery mode?

@jrg Because it is such a fine piece of hardware and software. Isn't it?

jrg
@OctavianDamiean First time I've had an issue.
Thinner, better battery life, well worth the cost of entry IMHO.

@jrg you can hold down the middle button with the white square on it and the top button that you use to turn the ipod on and off for 15-20 seconds

jrg
@AmithKK yeah, i tried.
doesn't work.

1:58 PM
hmm, I've never known the answer to this... when I very frequently apt-get something that I don't need, should I / could I remove it to keep things tidy?

@jrg Did you try installing ubuntu on it?

jrg
trip to the apple store down the road is scheduled for this afternoon. Appearently it's got something to do with the video card for the front camera - it creates a feedback loop or something along those lines.
@Greg you could remove it.
@AmithKK no. the hardware is locked for this model. unfortunately

@jrg what's the opposite of apt-get build-dep wine1.3?

jrg
@Greg apt-get remove wine1.3?
(i think)

@jrg Oh, a 3GS?
Was it JailBroken?
BBL

jrg
2:08 PM
No, and no.

Wine:
err:process:create_process starting 64-bit process :"C:\Program Files\... ... .exe" not supported in 32-bit wineprefix
is it possible to change wineprefix to 64bit? Sorry, I don't know the corerct terminology, newcomer to wine
holy crap I'm running Photoshop!
2
seems to work as well

jrg
@Greg holy crap why are you doing that?!

2:23 PM
@jrg doing what?

jrg
RUNNING PHOTOSHOP ON WINE ON UBUNTU?!
I think you had too much wine... you're drunk. :P

Because I often find myself having to open the photoshop documents because my designers have forgotten something
and I don't want to boot Windows each time I need to make a layer transparent or something simple like that

jrg
gimp doesn't cut it, does it.
ah, gotcha.

@jrg I can't learn gimp - tried, failed... I blame me, not gimp. But I already know Photoshop

jrg
heh, i know the feeling. :P
thats why we should all use inkscape/svg!
YAY XML!

2:26 PM
Nothing wrong with inkscape or svg
but tell that to designers who know Photoshop

jrg
heh, yeah

anyhow, Photoshop seems to run really nicely now I've finally got wine set up
awaits a crash

Can you answer this? How do I enable system sound (beeps, login)? http://askubuntu.com/questions/68814/how-do-i-enable-system-sound-beeps-login #sound

@Greg I use photoshop in wine without an issue at all

@MarcoCeppi ah why weren't you around earlier when I was crying how to get it to work :D

2:34 PM
Well, I also run Photoshop 7.0

ah I'm on Photoshop 12

7.0 will always be my favorite :)

paint shop pro ftw
when it was produced by jasc

rofl, I've used that too :)

Yeah I liked Jasc PSP, really nice bit of software
with animation shop, too
