4:00 PM
Some kind of distraction - which you gave me! But the current chat activity is also worth some popcorn

mm, well, I'll keep recording.

we need to haxx the stackexchange
to find out who's been flagging me

Trying out for CSI?

nah, just mad

Who hasn't flagged you by now :P

4:00 PM
I'll build a GUI in visual basic when I get home

@Noctrine me

@Noctrine you
you'd just suspend me directly

:\ If I flagged you, it'd just come back to me.

my point

howdy

Pip
4:02 PM
@Noctrine me

user4704
@Almo Nice.

Pip
hey Lasse

hashbar didn't flag me for sure either

lol someone flagged you again?

@Noctrine webmup.com/UP4Kh/vid.webm Made that last night. Didn't do any test flights. Built it, saved it, and flew it.

4:03 PM
@Lasse I don't think so, why?

Is that a pod racer?

I have no idea, you guys were talking about someone flagging you?

Pip
@AttackingHobo so freaking tempted to buy KSP now

Ref made a bad call

@Pip its so worth it.

4:05 PM
Icy getting all the rep today

Pip
Alright. I give in. Must spend hard-earned monies on extremely amazing game.

Hey squad, I want my commision fee
@Pip there are a tons of mods too, so if something isnt to your liking. There is likely a mod that fixes the issue

Pip
awesome

Bored of the stock parts? well there are tons of part packs
Don't like the physics system? Download one of a few entire revamps
Don't like the simple hud. download some crazy hud mods and cover your screen in different displays

are there revamps that actually render the parachute useless if it lights on fire? XD

4:08 PM
I'd like an RTS mod, where I can use my satellites as laser bombardment tools

@IcyDefiance there is deadly reentry, which probably does that.
@Noctrine haha That would be awesome
I want a game that does space combat right
Lasers are good, up to a point. Just put some particulate in between you and laser and you are good

proper space combat would probably be fucking boring

@Almo not if done right

i mean realistic spacecombat

Macro and micro stuff

4:09 PM
firing lasers at targets KM away just wouldn't be fun

It wouldn't be effective

why not

just put shit into space

nothing to dissipate the laser

and lasers cant touch you
Could have reactive paint armor that is meant to absorb heat, and flake off further dissipating it
kinetic weapons would be interesting too

4:10 PM
Or build a ship that's basically a mirror

@Batophobia doesn't work

my only point is that it's unlikely piloting will have anything to do with it

Mirrors can't be 100% reflective, and if they are not they absorb heat

computers will handle it all
come to think of it, computers will probably be handling everything in the near future

@AttackingHobo So long as you reflect enough, it's Mutually Assured Destruction

4:11 PM
cyborgs as a notion assume we can build machines to do physical labor, but still need the brains
that just won't be true soon

Almo, Huge stations fighting each other. Smaller carrier ships fighting each other, smaller fighters, people in space suits attacking the stations

seems unlikely it will happen that way

Hmm. Space Colony Tycoon.

I didn't mean real as in happens or is going to happen in reality, hard science fiction

ah game thermodynamics! I'm in!

4:13 PM
Entropy: The Game. Eventually, everyone loses

That was to inofficial title of WoW wasn't it?

@Noctrine Working heads up display I made in blender
The view from the eye is seeing a cube out in front which is in focus. And a cube up close which is out of focus, And there is a test image on the screen which is reflecting off the glass
Im thinking about building a real prototype of something like that

@AttackingHobo but that defines hard sci-fi. that it's plausible. You mean soft-sci-fi.

hard sci-fi means its possible not plausible, there are plenty of hard sci-fi books that have inplausible things

Joe
has anyone used a free fantasy sports API

4:26 PM
@Joe nope sorry

Joe
its all good, my friend is trying to twist my arm into fantasy football this season
and i will only do it if i can program a bot to run it for me

one of my first websites was a fantasy sports type thing for nascar, because one of my dad's coworkers paid me a few hundred for it. after it was finished I learned it was totally illegal, even a felony. XD

@joe
hahah

@Joe I joined a work league (free) this year somewhat as a joke. My goal is to win at least one game.
Draft is at lunch today lol... it's going to be horrible

Joe
i did that last year... lost to my buddies wife even
i think she had an insider though... anyways if im gona do it this year, its gota be on my nerd terms

4:32 PM
If you manage to automate it all let me know. I'm interested lol

Joe
i dont think i can automate a draft integrated into espn in my timeframe
but i would like to see all the players with an algorithm for which position i should be drafting priority over

Well the system we're using has an autopick feature so thats nice

Joe
and maybe a reccomendation engine, where i can start marking players as taken
@SpartanDonut as done espn, but thats no fun

I'm more worried about which players to play on a given week, swapping out the injured, etc.

Joe
that will be bot #2

4:45 PM
@AttackingHobo If you want people to support this idea, please don't post that top picture :P
@MickLH Ok, do you know how you can get xfce to suspend to the lightdm screen rather than xscreensaver?

Joe
@SpartanDonut theres no free api i can find that does what i want - contemplating scraping data now, but that seems like a mess

Love that perk

Summary tag is awesome
Though i want to put in a short message

5:05 PM
Hi guys, anyone has experience with bulletPhysics in OpenGL 3+ application here ?

I don't have a lot of experience, but I've used it
what's your queston?

My ques. is related to btIDebugDraw
In my application I have 2 rigid bodies (surface and a falling body)
I have inherited my debug drawer class from btIDebugDraw and implemented drawLine() function such that :

I store all the vertices in a std::vector and the pass that to a VBO and render them.
here's code :

stepPhysics(); // step physics simulation
dynamicsWorld->debugDrawWorld(); // push all debug lines into vector
bulletDebugugger.doDrawing(); // send those lines to VBO, VAO
DrawGLScene(); // render them
SwapBuffers(hDc);
bulletDebugugger.cleanDrawing(); // cleanup VAO and VBO and std::vector for next frame
I initialize my rigid bodies like this :

groundShape = new btBoxShape(btVector3(3, 3, 3));
fallShape = new btBoxShape(btVector3(1, 1, 1));

only "groundShape" has debug wireframes shown

this question is bigger than chat
I recommend asking it on the site

@Almo you are right.
I've asked it on bulletPhysics forum.
http://bulletphysics.org/Bullet/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=10071

they seem to be helping you a lot better than anyone here could

5:18 PM
        public List<uint> ObjectivesBitField = new List<uint>();
        ObjectivesBitField[objectiveChunkIndex] |= (1 >> objectiveChunkBitIndex);

Tempted to put
"If you have a question - just ask it"
In the room description

this says that I can't use bit-wise operator on signed-extended operand
ObjectivesBitField is a List of uints, so I don't get it
oooh maybe it doesn't like objectiveChunkBitIndex being int

@IcyDefiance thanks for your time .
I hope someone on bulletPhysics forum helps me resolve this issue.
*soon

making it uint says 1 >> uint doesnt work since they're int and uint
oooh
(1 >> objectiveChunkBitIndex) is int
and it doesn't want to use it with |=. ok
:)

@AidanMueller hahahah I was working on the optics, didn't care how it looks. Going to be making some non retarded looking ones
@Noctrine I have a question
Is it ok to ask questions in here?

Joe
5:30 PM
@AttackingHobo i didnt mind that one at all lol, but realize that youve struck a definitive style there

@AttackingHobo The irony of that question.

totally not

@Joe hahaha. You want glasses that look like that?
@AidanMueller haha yup.

That's ultimately the problem with it - if it's not ok to ask questions - and you ask a question :|

5:32 PM
never caught that part till just now
hahaha

That looks like fun for some reason.

Cardboard is pretty cool. It works alright on my s3. Looks better than the DK1
Tested it out with my bosses s5, looks amazing
I have very high hopes for note4 and gear vr because of cardboard

the penguin's name is tux

But Tux didn't eat it, Linux did

5:42 PM
@Lasse ya, but tux runs on linux

but he's eating it right there in the picture

but I don't have time to do everything today

of course you have
you don't have to do anything while doing everything

5:45 PM
What would a 100% reflective mirror look like?
Would we even be able to tell the difference?

it'd be a bit brighter

@Noctrine No.
You wouldn't.
Other than the fact that you are seeing yourself.

@AidanMueller Errr not really
Most mirrors lose a small amount of brightness and tint the light

But you could use that for things like building a room of 100% mirrors.

ALL mirrors do that actually

5:49 PM
@AttackingHobo What part of 100% don't you understand?
:P

You would be able to tell the differnce is what I am saying

We are talking about an ideal mirror.
One that can't exist.

^
get into your theoretical thought-experiment mode
if you have one

Yes. You could see the difference between an ideal mirror and a non ideal mirror. Thats what I've been saying

Oh,
Right.

5:51 PM
I think the original question was whether you could tell you were looking in a mirror or not

Essentially, an ideal mirror would look as though the thing infront of me is not reflected

asied from content

I thought he meant like the difference between real life and the mirror :P

@Noctrine are you real or are you just the reflection?

Unless that is what he meant.

5:51 PM
I meant what Almo and Hobo meant.

high five

High five time?
highest five

well even with current mirrors, you can only tell you're looking in a mirror because of either the edges or the content. see mirror mazes for an example.

''''/

an ideal mirror would just make those mazes slightly harder

5:52 PM
Well we do have front-face mirrors.
Those are pretty reflective.

@AidanMueller The *gasp* Almighty Five
@IcyDefiance Except you usually can by looking at your hand :\ - at least from my remembering. Also smudges :p

what do you mean, looking at your hand?

Maybe the ones I've been to didn't have very good mirrors, subtle color change depending on how dark the room is.
Glass has a greenish tint

> A first surface mirror coated with aluminum and enhanced with dielectric coatings. The mirror was constructed from an optical flat with a flatness of \lambda/20, which equates to a surface deviation less than 31.6 nanometers.
They use first surface on telescopes.
It'd be a shame if I accidentally spilled my coke on there.

5:57 PM
you wouldn't be the first one and people have found ways to get the coke off again

@Christoph What about the can itself?

OOOHHHH SHINY!

I wonder how much planning that photo & room took.

@AidanMueller the can itself might leave a scratch

5:58 PM
such shine
very reflect
wow

pretty sure some telescope has the most perfect manmade sphere, too

Ok, I guess we could just make an ideal mirror in blender and see how it looks.

they do everything to perfection in those things

@IcyDefiance I don't think it was a telescope it was some satelite to measure gravity or something

@IcyDefiance they try to, but looking at how the HST performed before they fixed it - people make mistakes no matter how perfect they try to make it

6:01 PM
They had a spinning gyroscope that was a very precise sphere

@IcyDefiance No. The most perfect sphere would be what they are using to define the kilogram:

most telescope mirrors are not spherical anyway

MLM
I would think they would be parabolic

And with this, slowing down light thing - is that just achievable by getting it really really cold?

6:07 PM
@Noctrine "Light, which normally travels the 240,000 miles from the Moon to Earth in less than two seconds, has been slowed to the speed of a minivan in rush-hour traffic -- 38 miles an hour.

An entirely new state of matter, first observed four years ago, has made this possible. When atoms become packed super-closely together at super-low temperatures and super-high vacuum, they lose their identity as individual particles and act like a single super- atom with characteristics similar to a laser."

Yeah, read that. Not quite enough information though - going through the references on Lene Hau's wikipedia article.

I like to pronounce vacuum as "vah-coom".

vah-coo-oom
or

Yeah. That might be better.

more like
vah-kew-oom

6:09 PM
"It's nifty to look into the chamber and see the clump of cold atoms floating there," Hau remarks.
lol science

or not

vah-coo-um.

fuck I don't know phonetic alphabets and shit

vack-um

va-kyoom

6:10 PM
English kind of sucks.

@IcyDefiance That is the closest I think.

Why didn't they just spell it vakyoom.

Although there is barely a gap

vack-yoom is how I pronounce it

But that's not as fun.

6:12 PM

Kind of like how champagne is more fun to pronounce as "sham-pahg-nay".
Or how chameleon is more fun to pronounce as "sham-uh-lee-own".

Joe
@AidanMueller this has blown my mind

That'ssssssss a very nicccccccce sssssssssphere you got there :D
When are they coming out with finding dory?
2016
Man.

how can you be lost if you forgot where you're going?

6:17 PM
@IcyDefiance What?

to find dory, she'd need to be lost, but she wouldn't be trying to get anywhere anyway because she forgets everything.
also (but less importantly, and I don't expect anyone to get this part) it was a play on the metallica line "how can I be lost if I have nowhere to go"

Well she did manage to remember "P-sherman 247 Sydney".

but you didn't, because that's not the address :P

What was it then?

P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney

6:20 PM
Hmm.

Pip
KSP <3

Been a while :)

yes I remembered it without googling. no idea how.

Pip
@AttackingHobo wasted so much money at the start :/

hahah

Joe
6:21 PM

Vah
coom
He says it right.

@Pip Yup KSP is awesome.

Pip
aww yeah

@Pip make a new game if you mess up too much.

Pip
playing career mode
I am going to

6:22 PM
Play Hard core mode, dont reset if you ever crash :)

Pip
gotta go take my dog out, but I will after that :)
I have never crashed

YOu should

Pip
two imperfect landings, but have never killed a Kerbal

go play a bit of sandbox
and put a tooooooon of rockets together
and lots of stages
then go try to fly it

@Joe It is real... and it can be caught. I did it once. I held it for a full minute but when I lifted my paws... it was gone.
So funny

Joe
6:23 PM
lol this ad is amazing but thats besides the point

if done right it will rip itself apart in midair for a spectacular series of explsions

@AttackingHobo How many times have you killed jeb in your save?

@AidanMueller a lot I keep making new saves

We have a new kitten... totally sending that to my wife.

Mostly I play sandbox though

6:24 PM
@AttackingHobo You know that he respawns, right?
All orange suits do.
I think.
Jeb for sure.

@AidanMueller did you see this? webmup.com/UP4Kh/vid.webm

Yeah.
Are the wings supposed to flap?

Haha. Not really. I made that in one go and took it off without any adjustments

Why do your planes have to look so retarded?

Joe
@SpartanDonut im pretty sure its actually a series of ads i think theres another one

6:27 PM
Oh god I hope so
The writing is incredible... Clearly by multiple cat family owner

Joe
thats the other one

Not as good but still relatable

looks like there's another archeage beta tomorrow
and it doesn't require founder status like I originally thought

If I ever get a cat, I will train it to be an astronaut.

Joe
@IcyDefiance theyve been talking about moving into an open beta... eg last step before launch
and rumor has a 2014 launch but no set date yet... so i cant beleive it

6:37 PM
mm, I'd have to play it, see what state the game is in

Pip
omfg.
Civ V is on sale for 75% off

Joe
im pretty impressed with the level of polish

Pip
just bought both dlcs

the other thing I'm waiting for is Blade & Soul, which was also rumored to release in 2014, but there hasn't even been a news post since December last year

@Pip YES

Pip
6:39 PM
YES!

I don't play that game because it requires like... 30 hours of commitment in one sitting but its amazing

Pip
I already love Civ, and now I actually have a justification to buy the DLCs. Awesome

Endless Legend is shaping up to be pretty good. Plays a lot like Civ but much more tactical as far as position of units and battles go

Joe
thats a link to a section of the video - thats also my favorite feature of the game

Pip
6:44 PM
@SpartanDonut will have to check it out

It's early access right now but pretty fun. I was having a good time with Endless Space and decided to go for it

MLM
@AttackingHobo Thanks for the share, super funny!

@MLM knew someone would get a kick out of it.

@Joe my hope and desire is that ArcheAge really builds a sense of community as you play
Being able to trade, start a small village, etc.

MLM
Anybody know of the proper #ifdef for a OpenGL geometry shader? I can't seem to find any documentation or many examples of a geometry shader

6:48 PM
It's not all done through menus / instances

Joe
so i really like how the trade pack ssystem works.. that you literally have to drop it on the floor to give to another player
theres ALOT of trust requirements much like eve
but i havent layed down a house.. i have gotten 2 boats up... and its amazing
soon im going to drop tags and go pirate, but im trying to get a feel for the guild experience

Yeah its sounds fun and somewhat fulfilling, as far as mmos go

Joe
i really liked alot of the ideas in eve.. archeage plays like a fantasy medieval combat version of eve
and the 120 classes i still cant get over the class system and "sub class" system
