@MarkM I greatly miss my window. My current office is large, thus allowing me plenty of room to spread out. With the exception of my pictures, it's very sterile and bland. Complete with light canary walls and light grey Steelcase furniture :\
The office I came from was originally designed to be a small science lab. Tile floor, rubber counter tops, etc. It was very roomy, but it sucked. My current office is about 1/3 of the size, but it's with the rest of the department and it's got cool things like a rug.
Can't get anything that flowers in strictly artificial light except maybe a peace lily, and even they don't like not having light on saturdays and sundays

@MarkM I used to have a philodendron. It got as large as it good on my grow lamp and now sits on the window sill of a guy a few doors down. I visit it from time to time.
When performance matters more then the possibility that you may lose two drives quickly. Adding a second parity, means that RAID controller, is going to have to compute that second parity. Although if I was really concerned about performance I probably wouldn't be looking at RAID5 at all.
Also...
having it there did actually make an appreciable difference in room humidity though -- Before they put it in the AC units were constantly in humidify mode trying to maintain 30%. With the plant we got it to stay steady around 37-40% no problems

I'm using SW RAID6 instead of RAID10 on my 4-drive personal server here. But that's because it's a Supermicro box with a shitty SCSI controller and the access patterns of RAID10 make the controller die. RAID6 is fine :) Of course, RAID6 is probably a better bet anyways.

@Driftpeasant While we do have an autodiscovery server in play, that's a checkbox that is not set. And since smb is blocked to our Exchange servers, well, it makes the initial Outlook load pretty shitty until you manage to find and tick the checkbox.

I think that feeling could be alleviated by having a separate meta meta for discussing bug/feature requests network wide issues etc and leave mSO for discussing SO
I think if that RFE were raised on mSF it would be +a million and "YES PLZ!" The tendency on mSO is "if it wasn't proposed by someone with 100k rep from SO downvote it and say no" - often without taking the time to understand the proposal/request or evaluate the benefits it might have for all the sites.

Part of me says we should let our proposals build up inertia on mSF and then flag for migration to mSO. That's cheating, but it would avoid that initial flurry of downvotes

and yeah the current FAA N number rules are 3 digits and 2 letters/digits, zero is disallowed as the first digit. But if I buy a nice ancient wooden thing I might be able to register it as NC- or NX- RTFM
