(and to be clear, I'm not saying I disagree with striking or anything like that, not saying anything one way or the other honestly, as this just isn't something I am heavily mentally involved with anymore. If we had enough activity for it to matter, I'd hand my diamond to someone else at this point.)

once upon a time I was active on SO and meta and chat and would've known about it (and perhaps participated), but my activity these days is basically "periodically see if sports has any activity"
Joe

As far as I know, no, none of us are participating, tbh at least in my case I didn't even know about it until you posted that link... :)
Joe

they'll find a way to rule it that way, regardless

If the ball goes under the glove and the runner picks it up then they're interfering, I'm quite certain :)
Joe
Feb 22, 2022 13:44
@MartinSleziak Yeah, that's about what I do (just means we have something like this - where I get to a conversation a week later...)
Joe

In either case, in the Lebron James question-at-hand, I think probably it doesn't fit, because the question isn't really about trades at all; it's about Lebron being effectively a GM in all elements, even though they do ask about trades, sort of.
Joe
Feb 21, 2022 21:44
It's possible that does have a reason to exist - I'm not a euro football expert or interested in it particularly - but I have a hard time imagining anyone wanting to search for questions about trades, personally.
Joe
Feb 21, 2022 21:44
I definitely think would be distinct from , but my discussion is more centered around whether needs to exist at all - a tag shouldn't exist unless someone might use it as their main reason for looking at a question, otherwise it's not a useful tag. I very much like the "has to be able to be the only tag on a question" test, and doesn't meet that IMO.
Joe
Feb 21, 2022 21:42
@Nij I understand, though I don't quite have that philosophy (and that is not a network-wide philosophy, at minimum; as a bare example, look at Stack Overflow, , , etc. prefer not to use tags quite in the manner you suggest.)
Joe
Feb 21, 2022 21:02
Absolutely agree!
Joe
Feb 21, 2022 20:59
(I really should check the chat room more, I need to figure out how to get notifications from it better...)
Joe
Feb 21, 2022 20:59
(And I don't know if you could have questions about trades in general, really - so I would tend not to have such a tag.)
Joe
Feb 21, 2022 20:58
I will say I tend to like to under-tag; meaning, for me, a question tagged would be one that was asking about trades in general, but probably not specifically ones - is sufficient for those, unless we suddenly got a lot of questions about trades in the NHL.
Joe
Feb 21, 2022 20:57
I'd like to see what @Nij thinks, as I'm just one person, and Nij clearly was okay with it.
Joe
Feb 21, 2022 17:07
I think though that it's not appropriate to that question. It's not really asking about trades per se - it's asking about the power of an athlete over roster construction more broadly. As such someone looking for questions about trades wouldn't look for this particular question most likely.
Joe
Feb 21, 2022 17:06
(well, not exactly new, one question has it...)
Joe
Feb 21, 2022 17:06
So I think we should either use a new tag, , or not use one at all.
Joe
Feb 21, 2022 17:05
> A transfer in professional football differs significantly to a trade in American, Canadian and Australian sports, where teams essentially trade existing player contracts, without any transfer fees involved.
Joe
Feb 21, 2022 17:05
@MartinSleziak @Nij I'm not sure about a tag that's quite that specific, but if is going to be used I think it should probably be renamed. Is the term "transfer" used outside of (euro) football? Not as far as I can tell, nor according to Wikipedia, and they are very specific...

@rumtscho totally understand, and agree - I always prefer to see well-sourced answers when possible.
Joe

really hoping Billy posts an answer based on that scientific American article, it seems much more accurate
Joe
Jan 19, 2023 20:48
@rumtscho Thanks for the detailed comments on the answer on my question, I felt like the answer is probably "right" per se but I 100% would like to see a more detailed one...

@BenMiller-RememberMonica That's why I always do payments online... the IRS mail receiving seem like a joke at this point

@jkej Simply stopping people at random is generally not constitutional - for example, stopping people because it's a high crime area or an area with gang activity (as described here) does not justify a Terry stop. The officer has to have reasonable suspicion that this particular person committed a specific crime (or is committing).
Joe
Aug 15, 2022 18:52
@BernhardDöbler It's a reasonable question from someone from the US, where that sort of thing is expressly forbidden (unconstitutional) for the most part. Seems like a reasonable question on Travel given it is being asked by a traveller - akin to asking about cultural practices or where to avoid. I imagine I'd want to avoid being searched by police (even while having nothing to hide; it's simply uncomfortable).

Nobody here is necessarily saying to directly involve oneself. What we're saying is dismissing the concern as irrelevant is wrong.
Joe
Jun 15, 2022 19:56
Or… plan work activities that don’t involve drinking? Would you only plan work activities that people who can’t walk could not go to? Same thing.
Joe

Being effectively excluded from workplace events due to not wanting to risk a recurrence of alcoholism sounds terrible. That's a great way to reinforce frat boy culture at work... not somewhere I'd want to work.

A restaurant is "goods or services" just like anything else, the fact that you pay afterwards isn't relevant. A cursory google search shows this (as does the many, many restaurants that don't accept cash). Some cities have special rules, but it's not federal.
Joe
May 26, 2022 01:10
This really seems like a separate question, which was sort of my point - it doesn't belong in the comments here.
Joe
May 26, 2022 01:10
(e.g.: paying the check in the restaurant after eating)
Joe
May 26, 2022 01:10
@littleadv Please don't spread that falsehood, especially if it's not relevant to the question. federalreserve.gov/faqs/currency_12772.htm from the horse's mouth...

Sorry, this is very disappointing to read from a moderator - not that you feel this way, of course you're welcome to, but that you'd post this. It's not quite not nice, but it seems like it's almost entirely a rant criticizing the OP (in particular, in how it's constructed with line by line responses) rather than providing useful advice in a positive, constructive way.

(or back to Grandma's, which is what's in Missouri)
Joe
Mar 2, 2022 23:24
We're in the Bay Area now though so no ticks whatsoever unless we go pretty far afield ...
Joe
Mar 2, 2022 23:23
Ugh, yeah, I can believe that. Missouri does have some prevalence of ticks - I think 4-5% have the markers - so I don't know why they have so few cases.
Joe

the blood tech was really good with him though, showed him everything, mimed doing it without actually doing it once
Joe
Feb 25, 2022 23:09
unfortunately he's a horrible patient as he gets really stressed about potential for pain in everything...
Joe
Feb 25, 2022 23:08
Also had the fun of an EKG, which would've gone better if the nurse had been a bit better at paying attention to his concerns (as she pinched him with one of the leads)... sigh
Joe
Feb 25, 2022 23:08
They've done a bunch of blood tests, but honestly we're hoping (and thinking) it's mental health related rather than physical health
Joe
Feb 25, 2022 23:07
@anongoodnurse EBV - yes, they called it Mono but I assume the test was for EBV antibodies. Don't know about Lyme; that would be mostly unlikely as he's rarely in areas with ticks at all and Missouri (the only area he has been in that has ticks) has very little prevalence of Lyme disease (one confirmed case in the county he's been in since 2000).

and HIPPA definitely affects others... I work for a not for profit survey research company that does a ton of research in health and healthcare for government agencies and healthcare orgs, and we often work with HIPPA-covered information that's very carefully protected, have to go through trainings as to what can be done with it and various safeguards
Joe
Feb 23, 2022 21:38
sometimes there's nothing better they can say...
Joe
Feb 23, 2022 21:38
Not exciting when you get that answer, but
Joe
Feb 23, 2022 21:38
nothing out of the ordinary blood work wise, so doctors are giving roughly the same ... "shrug"
Joe
Feb 23, 2022 21:38
Definitely can sympathize with getting the "we think nothings wrong, but something's obviously not normal"... our ten year old has had several times now since December where he's just ... slept for three days

This sounds like a house rule made for a household with children, where Scrabble was being used as a teaching tool to some extent.

@nick012000 [email protected] is the email address to use for that, I believe.
