I don't believe this has anything to do with aviation or aerodynamics. It is a not completely defined thought experiment that can have endless discussions and disagreements because of the missing details. We're not going to revisit the take-off on a treadmill question either.

@mins SSR mode S does not use aircraft based GNSS receiver position data. The position is determined by the radar from bearing/range measurements
Oct 6, 2024 17:20
I don't think that signal processing is the right site for this question either. It would be if the domain of your question was closer to the antenna, and thus the radio signal of the radar would be processed. Your question is in the domain of Air traffic control surveillance data processing, which could fit here.
Oct 6, 2024 17:20
However, your question needs to be focused on a problem you are trying to solve. This site is not going to provide you with a listening of all possible statistical analysis methods that may be useful in radar data analysis, nor can you expect people to do your literature research for you
Oct 6, 2024 17:20
You say you have time series of position, velocity and acceleration, but radar usually does not measure those values directly. Azimuth, range, elevation and radial speed (doppler shift) are what classical radars would measure. Can you tell what the source of the data is? How has it been processed before it was delivered to you?

@ymb1 On of the other mods has handled the flag. As mods we can't see all the details in the database, but the system can give some high level information about targeted voting behaviour. I suspect that the monitoring system did not flag any suspicious behaviour.
Oct 5, 2024 15:49
@ymb1 I have seen your flag, I need a few quiet moments to investigate and follow up. It won't be today, but I'll get to it tomorrow.
Oct 5, 2024 15:48
It's great to see two users that I value very much having a civilised discussion.
Oct 5, 2024 15:47
@mins @ymb1 fantastic to see both of you here!

Q: Where usually the loadmasters sits? what name of that area? and what name of the controls and instruments for the loadmaster?

fabiansaWhere usually do the loadmaster sits? following the question what name of that area or what name of the controls and instruments for the loadmasters especially in HLA such as Antonov, C5M, or C17 Globemaster III, Thank you...

Not sure if it was on purpose. Somehow it makes you stand out :-)

@quietflyer FYI the image in your user profile appears like a broken link to me.

@TomMcW that is a fascinating article. 13,560 km over the ocean, without any previous experience, and without the adults showing them were to go. How does that work? How do they know where to fly to? Fascinating...

However, for 500+ reputation users, the review queues of 'first questions' should allow for flagging such posts.
Nov 10, 2022 09:12
I just realise that a number of commenters on that question do not yet have 3000 reputation, which is the threshold for voting to close.
Nov 10, 2022 08:40
Dear community, the moderators are not here to mod hammer this kind of question. If you want to have a good site, you will have to take ownership and allow the stackexchange process to do it's job. Please VTC in such case.
Nov 10, 2022 08:38
Surely, this is too broad to be answered. I see many comments, two down votes, but yet nobody voted to close it.

Q: Average cost to replace a critical part replacement of Boeing 737?

KAJ226Some damages require complete replacement of part. Anyone know what parts of the plane say Boeing 737 get damages often, and when damage then it needs to be replaced completely since repair is not possible? Furthermore, how much it would cost? This reference here shows that the cost to replace t...

@Federico no worries, I know how busy life can be sometimes.
Nov 9, 2022 11:15
Perhaps @Federico will have time for beer as well (are you still where you were before, or have you moved?) .
Nov 9, 2022 11:15
@sophit, let me know if you are up for a beer on the 19th.
Nov 9, 2022 11:13
@sophit Thank you for sharing that view, I very much appreciate it. In my first few weeks as moderator I hope to collect more of such valuable input and then I'll try to address it.
Nov 9, 2022 10:47
The race is long, and in the end, it is only with yourself. If you persist, I have no doubt that you will get there
Nov 9, 2022 10:46
@sophit You make me laugh a bit here. You have acquired 1800 reputation points in about two months. That is a very nice achievement. If you continue at that rate, you will have reached the 10 000 within one year and that will give you access to that level.
Nov 9, 2022 10:40
@Bianfable thank you. Actually, I don't really have the time, but I thought it is important to give it the right momentum from the start. I will be less active for a bit later this month/year and than give it my full attention again.
Nov 9, 2022 10:18
I think that is indeed part of the reason. The duplicates are sometimes a bit frustrating to me, especially if I see a new user putting a lot of effort in writing a good question and the being pointed to a somewhat related question where one the answers is indeed answering the new question. That is not the best experience a new users can have I think.
Nov 9, 2022 10:13
@sophit there are a few users here that wrote 'beer' and occasionally we ended up having a beer indeed.
Nov 9, 2022 10:11
Well, I am in mostly Frankfurt or Langen (German air traffic control offices) and sometimes in Wiesbaden. Where are you based?
Nov 9, 2022 09:55
@sophit You have been on the site only since a few months, and you are very active. Would you like to share your impressions with me. What is this site doing good, what could be done better?

Nov 17, 2023 14:06
@StevePemberton @jkztd If that happens, feel free to raise a flag on the post and write a message to the mods asking us if we can restore the valuable comments. We're happy to do that.

It seems you are having a discussion with yourself. If you want to expand your own answer based on these comments, please do. I move this to chat.

I have never see a contrail starting so narrow and so close to an engine. But then again, my contrail experience is limited to mostly civil aircraft. I have seen fuel gushing out of wing tip tank vents during zero-gravity flights, and the cloud effect is similar to what can be seen in the video.

The chat UI is indeed not very mobile friendly, but it does work. (Posted from a mobile phone)

Nov 22, 2022 19:42
@MichaelHall maybe, but we all started to learn from zero.
Nov 22, 2022 19:02
Now, these vanes need to be calibrated as well, since the measured angle will be influenced by the aerodynamic flow round the fuselage, and thus needs correction. This could be done by flying straight downwind and calculate the side slip angle as the difference between heading and track. Although I believe it is more common to use CFD for the calibration.
Nov 22, 2022 19:02
@MichaelHall It is usually during test flights for certification and calibrating the avionics that the exact value of sideslip is desired. Sideslip angle probes (or beta vanes) are sometimes used on test aircraft.
