@Federico yes probably, but I have no ambitions to mod on SO, I much prefer this community. As you have seen I have handled your flag, thank you for the heads up. And thank you for the advice you left in the mod chat.
I've noticed that over time it got a lot more silent in chat room and in general on the site. Why is that? Do we have less interesting questions, or has the general experience that people have on the site gotten less positive over time. I would like and try to regenerate a bit of that buzz of the early years.
@sophit You have been on the site only since a few months, and you are very active. Would you like to share your impressions with me. What is this site doing good, what could be done better?
@DeltaLima ahahah, yes actually in Wiesbaden the weekend of the 19th but I don't know if I will have time. I actually wrote "beer" just for fun, I didn't even know that you were located on Germany :-D
@DeltaLima regarding your question: I suppose that the silence comes from the fact that most of the "available" question have been already asked... new questions tend to be either duplicates of old ones or not really interesting for many people
I think that is indeed part of the reason. The duplicates are sometimes a bit frustrating to me, especially if I see a new user putting a lot of effort in writing a good question and the being pointed to a somewhat related question where one the answers is indeed answering the new question. That is not the best experience a new users can have I think.
And I suppose this will also have other (possibly negative) side effects. For example a newbie like me is never ever going to reach some tens of thousands of reputation
@Bianfable thank you. Actually, I don't really have the time, but I thought it is important to give it the right momentum from the start. I will be less active for a bit later this month/year and than give it my full attention again.
@sophit You make me laugh a bit here. You have acquired 1800 reputation points in about two months. That is a very nice achievement. If you continue at that rate, you will have reached the 10 000 within one year and that will give you access to that level.
The race is long, and in the end, it is only with yourself. If you persist, I have no doubt that you will get there
Yes and no. Most of those points came from answering old questions about helicopters that nobody never answered. But those kind of questions are now fineshed. So I'm quite sure that I won't be able to keep that pace in the future or be able to reach that goal in the same timeframe you have reached it for example
Btw: not that I really care about how many points I have! I answer questions here for the pure pleasure of sharing knowledge
Anyway the "silence" we were speaking about is for sure going to slow down the process of getting privileges for the newbies
And this might have two main (negative) effects: newbies less motived; and more and more ageing people with privileges i.e less turnover
@sophit Thank you for sharing that view, I very much appreciate it. In my first few weeks as moderator I hope to collect more of such valuable input and then I'll try to address it.
@sophit, let me know if you are up for a beer on the 19th.
Perhaps @Federico will have time for beer as well (are you still where you were before, or have you moved?) .
