sudo blkid | grep swap doesn't output anything
now how to know the uuid ?

4:26 PM
@rakesh swapon -s - gives you the partition used --> then sudo blkid - gives you UUID
Not if you have swap on file, of course.

4:33 PM
@rakesh yeah should be. What says swapon -s

back again

looks to me like either a) he has no swap partition or b) he's using wubi

@OliveTwist we need testers.

i think so

You can't use HIBERNATE in WUBI (straight answer)

4:35 PM
oos
oops
wubi means i install ubuntu as an application in windows .. right ?

yes

wubi means don't use this installer ;)

so wats d solution ?

wubi is a temporary solution

i have windows as a dual in my system

@OliveTwist virtualbox is for partition fearing people. wubi is for people that want to have problems...

now i have to erase all including windows in order to put real ubuntu ?

@AbrahamVanHelpsing Lol.

@rakesh search the site. there's already a question on migrating wubi to ubuntu

Q: How to convert Wubi install into regular install?

UserI have installed Ubuntu on my D: partition using Wubi. Is there any way in which I can remove my Windows from C: drive and move my existing Ubuntu installation to C: drive and make it a regular install.

@Mahesh you don't really need shell expansion do you? shell=True ?

@AbrahamVanHelpsing No. we dont need shell expansion. Got any better way of handling spaces?

@AbrahamVanHelpsing That is the best way we have without having to split the arguments
we can't exploited can we?

break at spaces and send a list is the other option.

he didn't break the speed record did he?

yeah...needs verification...and his ground crew could have told him when to pull. he popped chute early b/c he couldn't see his altimiter

Woah

jrg
well, he's back on earth. for now.

That was a nice jump
he didn't break the record
but that was amazing

jrg
6:20 PM
broke the record for highest jump
not longest freefall though

think he'll get 2 of 3

jrg
he got 1 of 1 - he was supposedly only aiming for the highest, the other two were going to be a bonus.

believes that? maybe

some smart guy says there are a million reasons the Bible is fake "without having to worry about whether Jesus is real [sic] or not or had a wife"
I kid you not...

11:09 PM
@Oli Hmm... the best thing you can do is to go to our website and register your interest, if we launch in your area, we will be sure to let you know

@GeorgeEdison you never launch the nukes...steamroll with tanks and the like, but nukes is only for decimating the one hugely fortified city right in the end, not pressing on...

I see that now.
We've had two nuclear winters now.
@RolandTaylor That site he linked to... wow... it is full of absolute nonsense.
I can systematically poke holes in every argument the have there.
It's completely absurd.

quietly wonders if sockstress would work through a redsocks socks5 proxy...

@GeorgeEdison I am stunned at his laziness
It's like "I can prove you wrong!"
Me: "Go for it"
Him: "You are wrong, because I want you to be."
Me: "..."

no...after a little thinking it wouldn't

@GeorgeEdison this guy is pathetic -_-
Me: "Prove the Bible is fake"
Him: "dubious link. short rant."

I'm carefully pointing out flaws on the page he linked to.
Not because I think it will make a difference but because it's good practice for me :)

Can you please create a new chat room for such discussion? I don't mean to offend anyone but I don't think such discussions are truly useful in this room.
> General discussion around Ask Ubuntu, Ubuntu & official Ubuntu derivatives.

@ObsessiveSSOℲ we're having a discussion between ourselves on a matter concerning us both, how is that any different from normal conversations in this room?
I'm calling you out the next time a friend of yours wants to say hi. It's not Ubuntu related...

11:39 PM
@ObsessiveSSOℲ Fair enough.

Sorry. I shouldn't have meddled. Anyway, I have studies to attend to so I'll be back tomorrow about 3 PM EDT.

And nice upside down name by the way :)

@GeorgeEdison I don't agree.
I get very seriously annoyed when people want to suddenly take issue if what we are discussing is not to their taste, but yet any other randomness goes otherwise.

Well... I think it would be more of a problem if the room were busier.

Exactly.
We aren't even flooding the room with messages on the topic, just having a casual, occasional conversation.

11:42 PM
Sorry... I shouldn;t have meddled and steered the room from discussion to meta-discussion...

Well if it concerns religion or politics it should probably remain out of bounds
@RolandTaylor Yes, I'm looking at you

sure...
It concerned a conversation ABOUT something someone claimed.
It was between two of us for a short period of time. Nothing unusual.

Maybe [puts on his peace-making hat] we could create a room just for that purpose?

But, because it's not to the whim and fancy of a few... "OMG THAT'S OFFTOPIC AND NOT ALLOWED".
@GeorgeEdison no.
That's bowing to pressure.

I could start a conversation about the claims of a news channel about a political debate. That doesn't make it apolitical...

11:44 PM
For unfair reasons.

I don't feel pressured.
I just trying to avoid creating a problem for something that isn't important (like making a new room) as opposed to something that really is important that we do need to stand up for.

And, why are politics and religion out of bounds?

(And I hate it when I accidentally type two periods at the end of a sentence..)

Because the conversation never solves anything and only pisses people off

I mean, we can discuss the contents of our lunch but if we bring up the two of those suddenly everyone remembers a rule?
@AbrahamVanHelpsing wasn't pissing the participants of the conversation just now off...
Normally if we are discussing something no one else is interested in, either we talk around it or just don't talk at all...

11:46 PM
I was ignoring it, but it is irritating to listen to you on about religion consistently

Why is it different now?
consistently?

I posted a total of two messages that even mention the word Bible...
the rest was related to actions by someone.
That's just bollocks man.

I hate to be pedantic but...

twice in the last week that i can remember...once on whatever atheism day it was...and today

11:47 PM
> "General discussion around Ask Ubuntu, Ubuntu & official Ubuntu derivatives."
So technically we probably should create another room.
...or change the topic of this room.
(Man, that time I forgot to even include a period)

@GeorgeEdison we should change the topic of the room, because sometimes we discuss things totally unrelated to Ubuntu, Ask Ubuntu, and official *buntu distros.

What should it be changed to?

@AbrahamVanHelpsing oh so because I mentioned that people were posting silly things on whatever atheism day it was (it was actually blasphemy day, and IIRC I mentioned it in passing, then left the room shortly after).... I am going on about religion consistently?
You know what I think about this?
It's paramount to bullying.
I took a screenshot of the contents of our conversation from earlier btw.

I will use it as evidence if need be, and prove that this whole thing is unfair.

11:51 PM
Can't we just create another room? It's really easy for me to do.

religion and politics should remain off topic. period

I guess when the 25th of December comes around we shouldn't say "Merry Christmas"
because that's "religious".

@AbrahamVanHelpsing To be fair - that needs to apply to everything religious or political though.

@GeorgeEdison I can leave too, that's even easier, and makes my haters happier.

@RolandTaylor Hmm... point taken.

11:52 PM
i'm not hating on anyone. saying it pervades to merry christmas, happy hanuka(sp?), quanza(sp?) or whatever is ridiculous. saying "check this idiot disagreeing with my religious views" is definitely different than "happy bank recognized holiday"

This is indeed a dilemma. On the one hand, if we let anything go in this room, then we'll end up with another Comms Room (trust me - you don't want to go there).
...on the other hand, if we start banning things outright then it gets really difficult to classify statements ("he said 'chair' so it could be a pew and therefore religious").
It would be nice if there was a happy medium.

there is, people just don't usually abide by it

Human nature I suppose.

I'm sorry for bringing up the subject of what is on-topic here.

@ObsessiveSSOℲ you just helped me voice something. don't worry about it. people get ruffled about particular topics (which is exactly the reason they should remain off-topic)
