This room isn’t hyper anymore.
Jorge likes it that way.
@jokerdino ¯_(._.)_/¯
@jokerdino Who's Jorge? Jorge Castro?
Why are you lifting heavy stuff?
Hi @Nescio
Hello
06:05
@jokerdino I have to carry my intelligence sometimes. LOL
@Mochan lol scowls in a corner
@jokerdino Pwned, sir.
@Mochan lol
06:05
BBL
@AmithKK bye
Moo
You are one of those who got addicted to this chat room. I swear.
@jokerdino I know...
When did that happen?
06:07
@jokerdino Couple days ago, maybe.
Bye @penreturn
:/
:\
I need halp.
I'm leaving. I'll give you your peace and tranquillity.
@Mochan nah.
i am not being mean.
i am just falling asleep.

06:08
Bye~
The Ubuntu 10.04 DVD was also a Live DVD like these days, right?
you can just swear in english FWIW
@jokerdino what help?
-.-
I'm out!
06:09
@OliveTwist nothing. no worries.
@Mochan cya
don't hate me ;p
@Mochan bye~
wait, why do you say hello everyone when you are leaving lol?
@jokerdino: Ya, I can hate you for scaring her off ;p
@JourneymanGeek pfft
i be the villain.
@JourneymanGeek :D
06:10
groans
> In 10.04 (Lucid) the DVD used to include both the graphical and the text-mode installers.
is it true? i think not
it might be true
debian installer has both
I vaguely seem to think so
you need to press some button when the vitruvian man comes up
hmm.. i don't have a 10.04 dvd
06:14
just uses minimal install disks these days anyway
ubiquity is better than most linux installers
it isn't saying anything about text mode tho
the question now is, whether 10.04 also included a Live filesystem on the same DVD
Hello all :)
@Takkat hi
@OliveTwist 10.04 had a live cd
06:21
i mean on the same DVD image
@OliveTwist you can choose a text based install from menu on boot
kan
kan
I asked a question on the main. Will someone tell me how it looks?
@kan no
jk, link?
kan
kan
@jokerdino :( No? Why?

Q: Qute -- Worthy or what's its analogue?

kanFriends, I wanted to use Qute on my Ubuntu 12.04. There are a couple of problems: It relies on a dead project. One has to compile the files there. The question now is: is it worth the pain to install this thingy? If the answer to the previous question is no, then what is an alternative? ...

06:23
Looking at the files of 10.04 DVD there isn't any filesystem.squashfs file which is the Live partition
which is present in 12.04
@kan i'll try installing it here
kan
kan
@jokerdino Fantastic. Please do so. If you succeed. You'll have to walk me through... Wiill you please?
@kan ok as you say master
kan
kan
@jokerdino ;-) Sorry, if sounded imposing. :)
@kan heh no
06:25
he was joking
cause he is a joker ;P
don't mind it @jokerdino
BBL
no problem
@kan looks messy. i wouldn't try qute.
there is no documentation for compiling it o.O
kan
kan
@jokerdino True. Unfortunately,
brb; rebooting
@kan anything special you need but more standard editors don't offer? See this comparison list: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_TeX_editors
kan
kan
@Takkat I want markdown + TeX support. Would love if I can export to other formats.
06:35
@kan most editors support most formats when installing plugins...
kan
kan
@Takkat I see.
A curiosity crosses my mind: when 12.10 is out in the wild, can 12.04er upgrade easily?
@kan most likely but think of the advantages when staying with the LTS 12.04 for a while.
update-manager -c when it is out
i, for one, run devel release.
I only upgrade when I really need it because of an application update.
kan
kan
06:38
@jokerdino OK. :)
In fact if you don''t mind the one or other bug you could as well upgrade now - its almost finished.
kan
kan
@Takkat Sure thing. I am a newbie. 3rd day with this woman ahem ubuntu.
@kan as a newbie I strongly recommend to stay with a stable release until you knwo how to do things.
stick with LTS
12.04 is as solid as you can get with Unity.
+1 joker
06:40
Actually, Unless you don't mind doing an upgrade every year...
kan
kan
OK folks. I won't upgrade for sure... It was plain curiosity.
Upgrades with Ubuntu are very much different to Windows. They also upgrade your applications, and they come with frequent security updates.
@kan there is nothing wrong with upgrading. you just need more experience.
<-- learned the most from bugs
which you would get by upgrading. It's a circle yo!
06:44
Circle yeah, but never vicious!
could be a virtuous one
lol
Since when do we support Windows prerelease BSOD: askubuntu.com/questions/200879/… ???
never.
But there is an answer! They run on 10.04
virtualbox guests are offtopic..
7
A: Where's the off-topic line?

Stefano PalazzoWe <3 application questions. If you have a question about Firefox, it could be answered on AskSuSE or Ask Fedora, but you're not running Fedora or SuSE, you're running Ubuntu. :) So if we enforced application-questions be specific to Ubuntu, we'd have very few questions left. It's hard to ma...

06:55
++1 again joker. answered, am commenting and will vote for OT
Thanks. Adding answer to help the person never hurts!
Nevva
at least in my answer I did not mention any alien OS. We may have it somewhere as dupe already - too lazy for searching.
@Takkat what specific advantage are you pointing at
back and hi
long term support and updates
06:58
don't take to words out of my mouth @jokerdino... :) and fewer bugs.
heh, i thought it was public knowledge.
LTS is definitely more stable as a .10 release.
Oh, i see
<-- loves cutting-edge softwares
(never was happy with 9.10., and 10.10, 11.10 was sort of ok-ish)
I am actually in a big problem
07:00
Big problems call for easy solutions.
I plan to stick with an stable release than after 6 months there is another Ubuntu with awesome (latest) features
I'm trying it since 10.04
:(
no success
@OliveTwist same here -.-
Every next Ubuntu release is awesomer than the previous one
(most of the time)
I bet by New Years Eve my productive box will run 12.10.
and I already fell in Love with 12.10
07:03
i wouldn't mind running 12.04 but i like the software updates
it's more about the software than unity itself
good thing ubuntu has a faster release cycle
what is actually in unity 6?
i would die using debian
They have a rolling release version
@jokerdino i am starting to think it as a bad thing
@olive, webapps, previews, better windows spread
@Takkat i discount that.
07:04
Amazon in Dash :)
i don't need webapps
i removed it
me too
but what is previews?
dash previews
07:05
right click on dash items and it shows bigger
They may be a a pain on a slower machine.
i saw it
also, the keyboard shortcut overlay has my patch ;D
2
super + V -
I know
grats!
so, that's a good reason to use 12.10
07:07
I agree
12.10 is the first release in a long time which still can not run in Virtual Box shortly before release :"(
Eliah kagan was telling , if you click improve, the edits will be approved and community and edited by the improver
but i don't know how "Community" invade here^
did you actually edit anything?
then ofcourse no
community is the blanket for anon users
07:10
I was thinking so, until discussed this with Eliah Kagan. @Takkat was in the room at that time
I might missed something
when he means improve, he really means improve.
so, you have to actually improve so it shows your name
@OliveTwist I remember saying "sophisticated" which translate i almost understood it.
..crawling back
@Mochan waves
07:11
o/ to all back scrubbers
Sorry?
was a joke...
@Takkat I know. I was joking ;)
@Takkat no worries. i am just a bit blank.
i googled scrubbers and i was like woah
07:14
Scrubber
Lol
literal one
I hear the word commonly used for the "other" definition. It rubs me the wrong way, really...
i don't understand.
oh wait.
never mind.
07:17

Bring Rubber Buckets? No.

Q: How to share files Between RHEL and Ubuntu

Umair MustafaI have installed RHEL 5.5 on VIrtual Box and Host system is Ubuntu 12.04. I can access the files of Ubuntu by using the sharing services of Virtual Box. But how can I access the files of RHEL which is installed on Virtual Box?

07:33

@jokerdino It is. You understand that's like saying 'all asians look the same', 'all Americans are stupid', 'All Japanese people are geeky'. =.=
@HackToHell Hello~! ^o^

kan
kan
@Takkat I thought so. But, something more specific.
07:34
@jokerdino That's so cute~ ^^
@Mochan jeez I am an asian.
@HackToHell Son Ga-in. 손가인.
@jokerdino Yeah, so you shouldn't say things like 'All Koreans look the same'.
@kan terminal commands are the coolest thing I can think of.
07:35
@Mochan it was a joke. dummy.
손가인
@jokerdino I know... I'm touchy.
The only korean i know is psy :P
@Mochan shrug
kan
kan
@Takkat OK. :)
@jokerdino Uh-huh. If I were a boy... I'd fly to Korea and ask her hand in marriage. Sadly, I'm not a lesbian.
07:36
@HackToHell You don't know Gwon Han-na?
@Mochan O_o
@HackToHell good then.
@HackToHell Everyone knows PSY. Some before others (me). But basically, if you don't, your socially unaccepted -.-; Sigh
A Handball player ?
@jokerdino What? Authentic tale, my brethren.
07:37
@kan it really depends on your personal interest. I then started installing billions of applications - ended up to clean up with a fresh install.

@kan lunch yet?
